The UN Climate Change Conference (COP 26) in Glasgow, United Kingdom is a crucial opportunity to achieve pivotal, transformational change in global climate policy and action. It is a credibility test for global efforts to address climate change and it is where Parties must make considerable progress to reach consensus on issues they have been discussing for several years. COP 26 comes against the background of widespread, rapid and intensifying climate change impacts, which are already impacting every region on Earth. Also, COP 26 comes against the background of the COVID-19 pandemic, with the urgent need to build back better for present future generations to ensure a safe future.
The UNFCCC secretariat (UN Climate Change) is the United Nations entity tasked with supporting the global response to the threat of climate change. UNFCCC stands for United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. The Convention has near universal membership (197 Parties) and is the parent treaty of the 2015 Paris Agreement. The main aim of the Paris Agreement is to keep the global average temperature rise this century as close as possible to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. The UNFCCC is also the parent treaty of the 1997 Kyoto Protocol. The ultimate objective of all three agreements under the UNFCCC is to stabilize greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere at a level that will prevent dangerous human interference with the climate system, in a time frame which allows ecosystems to adapt naturally and enables sustainable development.

A true legend. Through his dedicated work over the decades, he has witnessed ‘first hand’ and even made extra effort to record nature and the unfortunate damage done since. I sincerely hope the Leaders gathered have heard his submission and will also make efforts at the much needed, now unavoidable corrective actions. God bless you Sir Attenborough..🙏🏾

If there is only one speech you should watch, it is Sir David’s. Sir David Attenborough is a great and noble man whose life I am constantly in awe of. Even at age 95, he never ceases to be a source of inspiration, delivering a rousing and fiery speech. As a youth myself, it is painful to see the future effects of climate change but I thank Sir David for his message of hope. I do hope he does that from this decade on, we can see a wonderful recovery of our natural environment, and bless Sir David, may he live long to see the fruits of this conference.

That would put us inside the carbon cycle again with room to spare, giving more time to loose coal and oil dependence. This has fallen on deaf ears. It is because we want money. Money is everything. Money trumps everything, even if your children's life depended on it, money superceeds that. So we scream at folks that do not hear. We scream at people who think negotiation is the way. We scream at people who laugh at us, deem us naive. Deem us uneducated. Deem us uninformed about the "real" world. The world that needs money, must make money, must eat money, must cook money and make money, stew and bake a money casserole.
Money is king and even if there is no oxygen left in the atmosphere to breath, we must make money. It does not matter who lives or dies. It does not matter who survives. Nothing matters if money is not made. You're nothing if you make none. Your nothing if you make little. Entrepreneurship all the fing way. You need money? Better start a business! Nothing is free you know. No hand outs. Well, unless you're a good corporate citizen. You dig for oil? No problems. You have a mining operation on native land, no problemo.
Hey wait you're not making enough!? You're a loser, you're a nobody, you mean nothing and will amount to nothing.

I'd argue its part of the solution and we should hold the line on nuclear power, as well and diligently research nuclear fusion. Smaller scale nuclear plants are being built to see how effective they are and I welcome this. Nevertheless, nuclear is more expensive than most renewables and takes far longer to construct. It may still have an excellent contribution to make in decarbonising aviation, space travel and perhaps shipping.

@@DBT1007 If nuclear waste is encased in concrete and disposed of in a remote location, I don't see a problem. People make a big deal out of the fact the waste remains nuclear for billions of years, but that's actually back to front. When nuclear waste is decaying at a rate whereby it will not cease to be nuclear until after billions of years, its pretty harmless. When it is decaying rapidly and will cease to be nuclear in just a few years its very dangerous. As for terrorists getting hold of it, they can't very well make nuclear weapons by getting uranium and adding water. It would be an issue in that uranium is poisonous, though the same could be said of countless other chemicals and these won't be as easy to trace as uranium which leaves a trail. While there was a meltdown at Chernobyl, the difference between the Soviet Union in the 1980s and now in places like Britain and America is huge. There's also no comparing a great many places to a coastal city in Japan, where tsunamis are and ever present danger. Nuclear fusion would also not come with nuclear waste and I don't think you can make nukes from it.

No need to worry about forests now. COP 26 has agreed that no forests to
be cut down from 2030. There may be a huge increase in destruction
until 31st December 2029 releasing the stored carbon sink held by that
forest and there will be less forest to soak up the CO2 until then. The
promise to protect world forest in 2014 at the New York COP, appears to
have failed. Still any new forest planted will start to sequester the
CO2 and produce oxygen. After all, to sequester enough CO2 to replace
the carbon in a destroyed forest will only take aboiut 300 years and
will not be 100% efficient until the forest has finished the replacement
of the original trees. Depending on the tree species, very liottle CO2
is absorbed until the tree reaches its maximum girth so very little is
added to the carbon sink in the new forested area!

We already cannot see the wood for the lack of trees. By 2030 many areas will have even less trees!

    COP 26 .
OBRIGADO ! Por subirem HORIZONTES !!!

What a lordly mass debater. A bigger carbon footprint than diplodicus. PS: he is on record saying the mass of the British people should not have had any say about UK being in the EU because they didn't have the knowledge over such an important issue. A mass debater indeed - chronic level.
