    I love these amps, they get down on good electrical. The bass series you can run up to 17v. I run my at 16.2v and they make tons of power. I have two of them total, each one is on a DC Level 6 18 wired @ 1 ohm. I have videos on my channel if anyone wanna see these playing.

    Jason I talked with you about my higher voltage testing a couple weeks back. On my smart 5 bass. They don't like the higher voltage. I get premature smart roll back vs when I was running 14.8v. I got more out of my S5Bass at 14.8 dropping to 14.4 then I did at 15.5 dropping to 14.9.
    You may try a test yourself just for the hell of it.

      We ran Smart5 down to 11v without any substantial differences from 15+, at the time, just to show that the amp would do it. But that's interesting, later I might do a direct comparison going from cmax to a 12v bank with this one to see what happens.

      @Facekicker I was expecting more wattage bumping the voltage up. Was surprised by the fact it didn't and the smart tech would kick in sooner. I love these amps by all means. It's just interesting to see how the technology works. These amps give you a great amount of power without having to boost the voltage. And actually running them near 16v prob not great. And even tho it may not do rated. Not everyone is looking for POWER. I chose the smart bass series over the smart series because of clarity in the frequencies. The bass series just sounds so clean.

    Where these Bass Smart series of amplifiers will shine is with musical builds with 4 x impedance rise. Example: The reg. Smart 8k= only 1 ohm stable, so if wired to 1 ohm, and if while playing music, your impedance rise= 4 x,= you will be getting 4 ohm power= 5k, vs a Bass Smart 8k= 1/2 ohm stable, so if you wired to 1/2 ohm, and your rise was 4 x= to 2 ohm power= 8k @ clipping= 3k more power after rise on music, vs the reg. Smart 8k!

    seems odd that the starting voltage is 15 plus volts and the amp under performs, the 2 ohm performance indicates this amp has a 12-13k 1 ohm potential... throttling you say must be some wizardry gone amuck and awry aye?

  • @Basshertz94
    @Basshertz94 Рік тому

    So I know the throttling is there to protect the amp, but how do you set the amp gain to where it doesn’t throttle? Or is it due to wiring low, or charging too high ?

    • @Facekicker
      @Facekicker  Рік тому +3

      The amp does it when it's at its output ceiling.
      There's nothing wrong with this behavior, it's intended, and the amp offers more output more of the time than a non-smart amp.
      The dyno is a static load which causes the throttling to occur sooner than it would in live use.

    In the face of throttling itself so much, is there a chance youd be willing to hook it up to one of your builds with an amm1? Im sure it does more than rated but ill be honest, at higher ohms i expected higher #s. Another excellent dyno none the less. Ty for taking the time to share

    • @evilinside5984
      @evilinside5984 Рік тому

      @kswis- Im not sure why you expected higher wattage @ the higher impedances? You do know that if a regular amp= without this smart tech., if rated to do 8k @ 1/2 ohm, it would do about 5k @ 1 ohm, about 2,800 @ 2 ohms, and about 1,400 @ 4 ohms!? I know the reg. Smart 8k, did 5k @ 4 ohms, but that amp is not rated for 1/2 ohm. So this Bass 8k, if wired to 1/2 ohm, and your impedance rise was 4 x, you would get 8k @ clipping still, vs if you had the reg. Smart 8k wired @ 1 ohm, and had 4 x rise, you would only be getting 5k.

    • @Facekicker
      @Facekicker  Рік тому

      In my experience, you see little to no throttling in a proper install.
      With a static load on the amp dyno, it seems to throttle more frequently.

    • @evilinside5984
      @evilinside5984 Рік тому +1

      @@FacekickerI think this throttling is a good thing, it also keeps the amp from clipping, as far as protecting the taramps from blowing up. As they tend to do when clipping, and wired low. I have seen Amm-1 tests while playing music, and the Smart amps throttling back the power= wont allow clipping= bad for dynamics= great for amp protection!

    • @evilinside5984
      @evilinside5984 Рік тому

      @RyanBassForLife- What i think most people are overlooking, is the Regular Smart Series of amps( = full range ), and are only 1 ohm stable= will blow up quick @ 1/2 ohm. Most musical builds will see 4 x impedance rise. So if you were to wire a Regular= the full range Smart 8k @ its lowest rated ohm load= 1 ohm, and had 4 x rise with music, you would get 5k. But if you had a Bass Smart 8k, and wired to its lowest rated impedance= 1/2 ohm, and had the same 4 x rise= to 2 ohms, you would be getting 8k, @ clipping, = 3k more power, after rise, while still wired to the manufacutures rated impedances= should last muuuuch longer!?

      Running the smart 8 bass on my 2 custom zv5 15s, had a chance to compare it directly to the salt 8 on my test bench in order to get it to sound right you have to set the low pass, subsonic using an o scope , the markings on the knobs are a bit off and it has a weird roll off.
