Our mall in FL charges $4 per hour. And the Brickell City Center charges $48 per day. Or $8 an hour. It's major ripoff, and honestly it has brought less people to these malls. A lot less!

The airport parking issue is just smokescreen on why employees are charged parking fees. If airport parking issue is the primary motivation for the fees, mall management could have issued employee passes for parking during working hours. Employees can badge in and out to ensure they don't overstay or park outside of work hours for free. License plate readers can ensure that employee passes are not being misused by employees' associates.

When I worked at a casino in Vegas, they reserved the top 3 levels for employee parking and it was free and we had parking passes. Restaurant and Retail workers had their parking covered by their employer. I support these valley fair employees, they shouldn’t have to pay for parking.
I was thinking this exactly! I have had a hotel view of the parking lot in Vegas and even though patrons pay to park the workers have the top levels of parking for them to park for free which is absolutely how it should be. Charging workers to park is outrageous!

Employee parking in rich areas is terrible. I work in Beverly Hills and the parking authority makes all their money on ticketing the workers who have to park all day. It’s predatory.

If they’re already logging license plates and know it’s a few people taking advantage of parking they can impose a $300 fee and for every infraction tack on another $30-$50. This fee would be tacked onto the business owner’s rent. For regular employees doing this the owners would have to actually address it with the offenders to recoup the loss. Or the mall could take them to court, they know where they work, it wouldn’t be a chore to serve them the paperwork. lol Security knows which cars are and aren’t there at night. I worked at a mall, believe you me they know when people are trying to park in their usual spots during the holidays. If none of the workers show up these businesses don’t operate, and if they don’t operate they don’t make money for the mall.
We need this kind of petition in Hawaii. I used to work in a restaurant in Waikiki and the parking there for employees was upwards of $100/month. Hawaii's minimum wage at the time was around $9/hour. Nobody can afford that!!

There is no such thing as free parking in SF unless it's in your own driveway. And $40 a month?! You can’t really compare the work environment in a city to a mall with its own parking lot that offered free parking to all the employees all these years. When you get a job in the city, no matter its SF, LA, NY, etc… you know the parking and transportation situation and I’m sure that was taken into consideration when you applied for the job. Pretty sure everyone that is currently working at this mall accepted the job didn’t expect to randomly start paying for parking because mall management felt like it.
It is all about making an additional profit. If there are no employees and no stores eventually the mall will die and your parking lot will become garbage. STOP just thinking about profit. I worked at the mall recently and the most obscure thing is that they made a designated employee parking lot and would give employees tickets if we didn't park where we were supposed to. So how is it that employees got tickets and would get it garnish away from their checks but they couldnt even tow these cars away. This mall is just greedy. I know this parking paying thing has been in the works since the end of 2019 but the fact that employees always get the shitty end of the stick is bull! Not sure why they dont just charge the employer instead of the employees.
I'm a maintenance contractor who does service calls for several stores at the mall. I found on my last trip over there the other day that the parking garage was less than half of usual. so I see that people are finding other places to park already. Wonder if it's having any impact on mall traffic.
For those who don't know, Westfield is an Australian company that owns and operate malls around the world. They couldn't care less about worker's rights here in the US as their stock is traded on the Australian exchange. New parking fee = higher operating income = higher stock price = higher bonus for the executives
The employer should cover their employees parking cost. I understand them charging customers but to charge the employee, why don't they just add the parking cost to the lease. If it's just concerns about people parking overnight just contract a tow truck company to come out and do spot checks if there are any unauthorized overnight parking just tow those vehicles.

I'm a maintenance contractor who does service calls for several stores at the mall. I found on my last trip over there the other day that the parking garage was less than half of usual. so I see that people are finding other places to park already. Wonder if it's having any impact on mall traffic.
For those who don't know, Westfield is an Australian company that owns and operate malls around the world. They couldn't care less about worker's rights here in the US as their stock is traded on the Australian exchange. New parking fee = higher operating income = higher stock price = higher bonus for the executives

The employer should cover their employees parking cost. I understand them charging customers but to charge the employee, why don't they just add the parking cost to the lease. If it's just concerns about people parking overnight just contract a tow truck company to come out and do spot checks if there are any unauthorized overnight parking just tow those vehicles.

Valley fair employees deserve their respect , And OMG the Roads around that area are soo horrible , the City of San Jose and or Cal Trans needs to fix the roads and streets right in front of the mall it is sooo raggedy .

They’re making employees pay more than the customers. Wth is that? And it’s not like they can park somewhere else and then walk in. And the security can’t login which cars are there overnight?
To make employees and customers pay for parking is ridiculous. If they want to keep pple from leaving their vehicles there overnight than post a towing sign for certain hours
