    Hey guys, several comments have notified me that critical captures are just superficial animations that occur when you already have the same pokemon, and don't actually affect the catch rate(though the route 1 catch rate still looks to always be 100%). Also, for those you worried about the Ralts at 4:57, I reviewed the footage and have bad news...

    I like how this run shows a redemption arc where in sprigatito's first battle, it failed to crit and thus couldn't avoid damage, but upon maturing, it perfects critical hits so well that it's signature move only does so.

    So, a fun thing you can do with Nemona’s second battle. She terastalizes Pawmi, but the only move it ever goes for is Thundershock, even if your Pokémon has an immunity to it. That means that battle can be very easily cheesed with a level 5 Wooper, which is available immediately after you leave the lighthouse. Every playthrough I have done so far I have simply switched in Wooper after her starter goes down and Mud Shotted her Pawmi to death with no damage.

    I love the Vivillon pattern in this game. For those who don't know, the pattern of the ones in Paldea is the Fancy Pattern. Originally, you were only able to get a Vivillon with this specific pattern via the Nintendo Network in July 2014 when the Global Trade System celebrated its 100 millionth trade. So the fact they brought it back for Gen 9 is a detail that I appreciate. As for the storylines, the Titan one is hands down my favorite. Because once you realize why you're collecting the Herba Mystica, you feel bad for (or relate to) Arven and his Mabosstiff and so you're motivated to help him and get his Mabosstiff better and stronger. Not to mention the story connects to the legendaries.

    Arceus, disguised as Larry: *Gone, reduced to atoms*
    As much as I love Spain, it's nice to see they also did their research for the Portuguese bit of the region and that it's not all Spanish. The striped houses in Porto Marinada are based off the ones in Costa Nova, nicknamed the Venice of Portugal. The striped houses there are cottages used by fishermen to store their nets. They're called palheiros, which means haystacks. And Alfornada is based off Sagres. The dishes on the walls are a reference to Artesanato a Mó in Sagres, and the chimneys there are based off ones found all over the Algarve.

    Personally I think the starfall street storyline was my favorite. Expecting it to just be another "We're the antagonists so we must want world destruction for some reason at the cost of the box art legendary" storyline, it actually turned out to have me feeling really bad for just going in and steamrolling them. Then to find out who it was totally not commiting crimes to pay me to do it was absurd and surprisingly unexpected.
    Also I have a strong biased liking to the character due to relating to them a lot in regards to their experinces and personality. (Also their design is really cute).

I was a bit worried at first that with your rules to save anywhere that they may become more luck based reset-fests, something that I feel really misses the point of a no-damage challenge. While some segments (like the first battle with the starter in almost any generation) that really can't be avoided, I've come to appreciate that your goal of under 10 resets post-starter helps serve the same purpose as restrictions on saving while allowing you to maintain a far larger chunk of your time/sanity. Real shame about the little asterisks on this game, but it was a fun watch none the less and I look forward to watching more of your challenge videos as a whole!

Your sense of humor perfectly appeals to me but outside of that, your use of strategic replacement of moves, switching of Pokémon, grasp on AI and knowledge of stat training is very interesting and digestible for me! I mainly shiny hunt in PKMN games and get very lost when people much more intelligent than I am try to explain competitive (or Nuzlocke adjacent?) strategies to me because all I know how to do is make my Pokémon turn a funny color. But something about how you can briefly describe what you're doing then show it in action makes it make a lot more sense for me! I know you're not meant to be a tutorial channel by any means, but still, past being a very entertaining guy I feel like I'm learning a lot about a game I've been playing for way too long to not know half this stuff! This is similar to the Route1 in Alola and Route 2 in Kalos, the first route to catch pokemon will never fail
    So theoretically you could just keep catching pokemon there to level up Pokemon, if that is really the case.

    37:14 regarding the skunktank sucker punch fiasco, ive observed that the team star bosses can have some pretty strange and erratic AI behaviors. When I fought Ortega, I sent out my Great Tusk against the fairy star mobile. It had three whole chances to use a super effective fairy move on Great Tusk, but it never went for it, instead just using the not very effective Steel Roller and Spin out.
    For the algorithm question, I really enjoyed the Team Star story, learning about their struggles and the lore about the school was really fascinating, and the fights were all pretty fun. I did also really enjoy Path of Legends, having lost two dogs Arven's story really got to me. I also had a ton of fun taking on Great Tusk 15 levels underleved, and catching it way before I was probably supposed to. It wouldn't even obey me at first haha. The weakest story for me was probably the gym challenge, mostly because it really just does feel like a standard pokemon gym romp without much variation. Regarding Iono's Bellibolt having its ability activate even when it's fainting - if I had to make a guess, I'd say that abiities are programmed to always go off whenever activated, even if the Pokemon's about to faint, so that things like Aftermath and Glimmora's Toxis Debris proc as they should.

    At 3:30, those aren't actually "critical captures." What the game does is, once you've registered a pokemon, all future successful catches of that pokemon will display as crit caps. The early pokemon just have wildly high catch rates. It doesn't affect your catch rate in any way.
    Failed critical captures also just look like the pokemon broke out with no shakes; so, in a way, critical captures in this game have a 100% catch rate.

    • @TheRedSmarty
      @TheRedSmarty Рік тому

      Basically, if it looks like a critical capture, you've caught it. If it doesn't and that species has been caught before, it'll break out.

    8:00 Even if the raids aren't replicable - you still can change the Tera Types after finishing Normal Gym. You should be allowed to use these after that as it's only a matter of slow grind for Tera Shards.
    11:35 Using Miraidon you can actually cheat it and kick the olive over the spider webs. Straight line into the basket.
    12:40 And that's why you buy a Loaded Dice and get yourself a Multi-Attack Pokemon. Then you don't really even need to use slow Pokemon like Hariyama. Funnily enough this generation has extreme amount of Pokemon that can put others to sleep. That's also alway good strategy for no damage playthrough.
    14:20 I actually enjoyed the Gym Challenge + School/Classes storyline the most. It was more distinct from other games and I like that ever since Sword and Shield they are giving more character to it.
    18:05 They got nuked.
    24:05 Also I love how we all refuse to use official pronouncation of Farigiraf. It makes so much more sense for it to be Fari-Giraffe and not Fari-Key-rafe - as said in reveal trailer.

    14:50 Mindy's Haunter is only holding an Everstone because Diamond/Pearl/Platinum have their in-game trades broken in that they don't cause trade evolutions. The Everstone is just to hide this from most players. No idea if the in-game trades are still broken in Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl, but I wouldn't be surprised given how the "remakes"(read: bad attempt at a remaster) are "extremely faithful"(read: basically a copy) of the original Diamond/Pearl.
    25:53 The sandwich part isn't actually needed, if anyone is wondering, you can just immdiately exit the picnic and it'll have happened.

    I know it's been 8 months but I thought it'd be good to add in how this actually works for anyone who stumbles into the discussion in the future.
    Critical Captures are very much not just visual, as they have their own calculation separate from the catching formula. The chance you have to get a Crit Cap is determined by how many species are registered in your pokedex, capping out at 600 for the highest chance. At 31 species in the dex, you have a multiplier of 0.5. It factors the original catch rate formula (that I will not be putting here since it is absurdly complicated) into that multiplier. The game then generates a number from 0 - 255 every time you throw a ball, and if that number is less than your crit cap modifier, it becomes a Critical Capture. Critical Captures only have to do one shake calculation instead of three/four (depending on which game you're playing).
    TLDR: Critical Captures are a rare chance to get a much higher success rate on a catch that is based on how many pokemon are in your pokedex.
    Now onto the animation part. Scarlet and Violet exclusively have a quirk with the animation of Critical Captures that make any successful capture of a pokemon already in your dex appear to be a Critical Capture, regardless of whether or not it actually was. For example: a player catches a scatterbug. The decide they don't like the ability it has and go to catch a second one. Despite them not even having enough pokemon in their dex to have a chance of a Critical Capture, the second one they catch looks like one.
    There is another (albeit much less common) occurrence within the same quirk, that being the fact that any Critical Capture that ends up failing its singular shake check actually appears to be normal instead of critical.
    TLDR: Already owned pokemon will always show a Critical Capture when you successfully catch a new one, regardless of the actual chance of Critical Capture.
    Source: Bulbapedia's page on catch rate.
    I hope this comment helps to clear up any confusion on the matter! If you want to check out more details about how all of this works, I highly recommend looking through Bulbapedia's page on it all. It's a lot of numbers and math but the main paragraphs make it all concise enough to understand (most of the time).

    Geeta's team is supposed to represent Paldea as a whole, each poke representing different areas of the region. Cute in concept but they're mostly bad pokes. Well that and the role of Champion in Paldea just doesn't mean as much as it did back in the day. Like we know the gym leaders don't use their best teams against aspiring trainers and that's been in the canon since BW. But the champ was always supposed to be the best in the region and should be going all out against you. I get they wanted to have Nemona be the "final boss" of the main story with the prof being the postgame boss but it makes the idea of the region's champion fall a bit flat.
    Also 4/6 of her team falls over to a Lokix, which is funny. Avalugg and Glimmora are the only problem children due to Avalugg being physically tanky and you probably don't want to use Axe Kick and have to reset when it inevitably misses even with Wide Lens.

    • @nolongeraperson
      @nolongeraperson 6 місяців тому

      Literally, all they had to do was make Glimmora the lead w stealth rocks and Kingambit the ace, since it has Supreme Overlord, and she would seem like somewhat of a champion, albeit still not a strong one. Ridiculous choice by the devs there.
