I remember visiting family there as a kid in the 80's and the smog was so thick you had to get REALLY close to freeway road signs to read them. Today, you can see the mountains. All that said, combustion engines are already 99% as clean as they can possibly get. Regulations to make them "50% cleaner" are quibbling over that last 1%. They're going to spend far more over that last 1% than the prior 99%.
all that effort while they ignore that AVGas has lead in it still. The jets still burn fuel, the ships that cross the oceans with all the cheap garbage from china burns the most filthy fuel on the planet. What an insane world of nimby twits.
Couldn't see the Giant Freeway Signs!... We have Coastal marine layer also... It's like.. (fog)... The Off Shore Winds, that most recently helped the terrible Arson fire's create even more damage.. Driving behind many Prius with no catalytic converter (because it was stolen) makes one realize how much those things actually help. They sound like a Volkswagen Bug and smell like a classic V8. A nostalgic smell, but not pleasant coming from 1000’s of tailpipes in bumper to bumper traffic.
Some points were hinted at here that so many of the commenters outright missed out on. Not everyone is a car enthusiast, but EVERYONE was funnelled into being a driver. Much as there's been a push to "let the city be city so the country can be country", the same is true with mobility. A lot of these problems would be significantly mitigated if people who are simply trying to go from place to place could take greener modes, cutting more slack for enthusiasts to have their fun cars with less hindrance.
LA was designed for 2 million people.... Today there is 4 million.... It's an absolute disaster of a city because of this alone. Remove half the people, and you might have a functioning infrastructure....as is, no.
Have you read Marian Tupy's "Superabundance: The Story of Population Growth, Innovation, and Human Flourishing on an Infinitely Bountiful Planet"? He dispels the myth of population growth being the cause of society's maladies.
Los Angeles county’s population density is not the root cause. California allowed collusion between the petroleum and automotive industries in the 40-60s to buy up, and close local bus and light rail lines, which absolutely decimated public transportation throughout California, which then forced people to buy cars even if they didn’t want a car necessarily - and created the worst traffic congestion and pollution in America. Their regulations are merely an attempt to regress back to the mean it should have naturally occupied.
We still have our Unique Red/Orange Sunsets ... Even after the Off Shore Winds start... The one's that Blow that Smog away to somewhere.. Called Santa Ana Winds.. Cheers from Orange County California 🇺🇸 Daily Driver 68 Dodge Dart.. Lived here my whole life so far.. 51 as I type this..
@@AtZero138 Orange County is not LA County. In the LA County basin regions, the Santa Ana winds don’t matter. It’s not even picking up the Santa Ana winds - the air is not going down the valley then back up the valley to pull out the pollution. This is why you had small clouds that just sat over LA for decades until they started running unleaded gas and mandatory Catalytic converters. No don’t think the pollution magically disappeared because of this. It’s still there and the same issue still exist it’s just that with the amount is lesser.
I think this also completely forgets to mention the lack of public transportation in the USA. If we had valid train systems. The issues of smog and the problems that come with it would be greatly reduced. I am happy for the future of electric cars tho, as the speed and lack of sound means tracks will able to come back in way never seen before. Same goes with motorcycles, you can have hidden tracks with nobody ever getting bothered by it. It's a blessing even if I will miss the rev sounds.
@@edchu9181 @ makes no sense to over regulate one state and no regulation in other. Why not balance it and this way California doesn’t completely eliminate cars. Everyone will leave and the issue is not solved just moves. Matter of fact look it up your self there counties in California that don’t have smog regulations. What gives
@@TheThiuser it's not over regulating. It's regulations that fit this state and this state only. Newsome cannot and have zero power to regulate other states. Keep in mind that ca is the most populist state, with the most cars, and the most emission violators. We are not more or less prone to violate emission laws, we simply have more people, more cars, therefore more violators. It's that simply. And it calls for no new ice cars, but nothing about old cars or ice cars we already have. I'm all for ev and hybrids but don't currently have one. And I think it violates our rights to have our currently ice cars banned suddenly. But I don't blame newsome, just consider what climate change have done to california in the last 10 years alone. There are more frequent wildfires and they are hotter and more intense. Although i don't agree with everything newsome does, he does have to govern the whole of the state not just for car enthusiast or environmentalist, or farmers, everyone. Better question is you want to keep buying new ice cars and risk you home burning down or will you accept the compromise of no new ice cars by a certain year? If I had to choose either having my house burn down and leaving my family and my pets all homeles or ride a bike, it's an easy choice for me.

I understand the air polution problem. But I don't get why there has to be a total ban. The main population seems to be happy with electric cars. Car manufacturers could be allowed to manufacture one or two non electic models worldwide. That should fix the air polution but still allow enthusiats to enjoy their cars.
Because despite the recent decline in population, ca population is expected to rise in the next decade plus. And allowing further new ice cars to be sold will simply make air quality worst, increase wild fires, and make them worst when it happens. I love cars as much if not more than the next guy, but the big picture is clean air and safety for all californians. Also this doesn't ban car culture, as car culture have more to do with modifying cars and often old cars than anything else. It doesn't help that being the most populist state, it also have the most cars, and therefore the most pollution violators. It's just numbers. Californians are not more or less violators of emission laws. We simply have more people, therefore more cars, and therefore more violators. Instead of blaming newsom or any other politicians, perhaps blame the violators.
It feels like a lot of people in these comments either didn’t watch the whole video or they missed the point. As annoying as CARB is, it fixed the smog issue. The inversion issue they mentioned isn’t unique to LA. Salt Lake City has the same problem, even now as all automakers have adopted better emissions standards. If the industry hadn’t moved in that direction, I’m sure we’d see more smog issues in other areas as the population has grown. I’m a car guy that moved to California in 2012 and I love it here. The state is gorgeous, the weather is awesome, and the car culture is amazing. Literally every weekend there are multiple meetups and events within a short drive. Sure, getting your car smogged is annoying, but new cars (less than 8 years old) and classic cars (pre-75) are exempt. My daily is a 650hp Audi that runs mid-10’s in the quarter. Despite all the rules that keep our air clean to breathe, California is still an awesome place to burn some rubber.
Either C.A.R.B. or EPA, are Submitting their quarterly, or yearly reports on Air Quality. When they do so they also include the Wild Fires ( Forest, Homes ) ( Electric Storage facilities, Lithium-Ion Battery 🔋 Pack Recycling Centers burning, Toxic Electric Vehicle's, and so Far 15 Electric Vehicle School Buses.) Yes, they did great things. They used to make rational rules that made a huge difference. Now they're a bureaucracy that costs people more and more while making a difference that's only measurable when counted in political currency. Getting rid of leaded gas? Awesome! Forcing every aftermarket part - even if it retains every single feature of the factory one - to go through prohibitively expensive testing? Not so useful.
I totally agree, people think that CA is some sort of regulatory hellscape, but it’s not really. Can you do whatever you want? No, but my neighbor has a supercharged C6 corvette, and I have a coworker with a WRX that he claims puts out 400HP on E85. It’s never been on a dyno, but I went for a spin in it and it and the butt dyno says it’s close. Another has a Toyota 86 drift car with a supercharger and a welded diff that he drives daily to the office. We have plenty of fun despite all the horror stories. As for the EV mandate, we’ll see. They already caved on the mandate for trucks, I think the same will be true for passenger cars. Regardless, there will still be plenty of gas cars available in CA for a long time to come.
As someone who has driven the snake and all the other roads out there near malibu and mulholland they are great but not that special you can find roads like that in just about every state, we all just know about it because that's where all the journalists and car bloggers etc all live
"Just about every state" I don't think you've been anywhere outside of California. There is nothing like that in the entire Midwest. Basically if your state doesn't touch the Sierra, Rocky or Appalachian mountains, you get grids. Virtually 0 curvy roads.
@@kamilb8232exactly, I used to live in Illinois and when I drove to NY it was nothing like the Midwest (over Pennsylvania and NY) It's beautiful driving over the mountains, I cannot imagine driving by the side of the Pacific ocean
Another great video! I didn't know any of this, interesting to learn about it. Great to hear there's been huge progress on smog situation in LA. As you say there's a long time still until the mandates come into effect, maybe the stance will soften.
No one wants to go back to polluted air. But what CA and CARB more specifically is doing, is regulating car enthusiasts into extinction. The way things are going in CA, there won’t be much of a population left that can even afford to own a vehicle. Sure there are still track day events, but the amount of resources and money required to participate is high. A track car by definition is not road legal in CA. So you need to trailer it to a track, meaning you need a support vehicle that must be registered and insured. You also need the storage space for the support vehicle, trailer, and your track car. The strict regulations are pushing many car enthusiasts to “hot smog” their daily drivers. Sometimes over the most petty bolt on parts that have no impact on emissions. Are there bad players in the car scene? YES, but I would argue the number of folks running without CATs for example is such a tiny fraction that it won’t have any measurable impact on smog.
Such a shame, California used to be the best place in the world to live, putting aside the cars. Now they are very strict on cars and modifications. TBH they still aren’t as strict as 🇦🇺 Australian HWY Patrol Police. Hopefully times will change 😢
Fire doesn't care if your governor, fire chiefs, dei mandates, empty water reservoirs, or private fire departments don't care about anyone on the "wrong" side of the velvet rope...
I love cars and drive a classic but Idc long as it benefits life. if we don’t conserve nature we won’t have beautiful roads to pass on to the next gen or car lovers. I think we can find a middle ground if the big corps/oil wanted to but they don’t sadly and our politicians fail us regardless of political party 😅
It’s simple. Keep smog testing on vehicles 1996 and newer. Setting strict limitations on cars 10 years old. And lenient on cars beyond 10 years old. Smog exempt Carburetors and Throttle body injection vehicles. California smog exempts 1975 and older. That needs to change to 1995 and older.
Colorado used to be 25+ years old was smog exempt. Then they said "hey, we should be like California!" and changed it to 1975 and older. Now we have a pile of cars from the 70-90's that would make great projects, but nobody wants them because of the extra government trouble. Rusted out 1975 Camaro? $5000. Running and driving 76? Can't give it away.
Pretty illuminating explanation, nice work. I am still surprised that, since they've had such bad smog issues back in the day, they killed off the tram system (for whatever reason) and kept it dead. It's almost like they shot themselves in the foot.
If you love cars, or simply value the freedom of personal transportation, it's long past time to push back. Contact the policy makers and give money to the groups fighting this insanity.
I think most enthusiasts do, but the ones who talk the loudest don’t.. but in the community there is a lot of hate for regulation not because of hate for green planet but for hate of being over regulated or being turned into examples of public issues. Yes take overs are dumb, but don’t go after a local track because it’s “too loud” or “brings issues to community “ even tho those same communities will allow a casino to operate with no problems
This whole overwhelming, overreaching, misguided regulations against gas burning vehicles has absolutely nothing to do with the environment. The most obvious and clear example of these regulations is the fact they are all driven by whats being portrayed as “Green Energy”. In case you didn’t know, Green energy, stemming from plants and trees, which need CO and CO2 to survive, is actually responsible for Killing off the Trees and plantlife on the planet. Green Energy and all these EV’s are literally suffocating the ecosystem and doing more harm than good, creating an imbalance of much needed plantlife and fresh water. Carbon is the basis of life on earth as we know it. Its not possible to have too much carbon.
Problem is, the car culture that you use as a reason for California being "worth it" in the into is likely not going to survive all these new regulations. I'm sure it'll exist in some form but not anything remotely like what it's been known for there.
Car culture evolved over time, and will continue to do so. To think people won't find ways to make new automotive technologies fun and fast is ridiculous, ways will be found to make cars interesting, fun and unique.
This video is great for people who have never been here or don’t live here. We have the most vibrant & thriving car culture in the entire US. Nobody follows or enforces all these laws here, and they are actively being reversed. The pendulum is starting to swing back in CA, and like with most trends, other states will follow
Was a kid with athsma in the 70s, remember how bad the smog was. Huge improvements in air quality by the 90s. PCV, Fuel injection & catyletic converters made a massive improvement. But banning antique hobby cars is too much. They just don't get driven much & there aren't that many left. How many 25+ year old cars do you see on the road? I have my grandpa's antique pickup that with work will run again. Would like to be able to drive it.
Sydney Australia is in a basin and had bad pollution problems but since the introduction of emissions laws with efi and cat converters and unleaded petrol thigs have improved no longer there is that smog that was around in the 1970s when emissions laws were untroduced in the late 1980s the air was a lot cleaner
I’m a car enthusiast, have been my entire life, but I also want a planet around for my kids and grandkids so I get it. It’s not something that triggers me as it does for the others in this comments section.
Exactly. California is course correcting for when it allowed collusion between the petroleum and automotive industries to buy up, and close local bus and light rail lines for decades, which decimated public transportation throughout California and forced people to buy cars even if they didn’t want a car necessarily - and created the worst traffic congestion and pollution in America. All this is regressing back to the mean it should have naturally occupied.
Finally they admit it. It's because of their topography. Ironically planting trees will pull the air down and help circulate the city's air quality. It's no joke. Cali needs more trees because they're easily affected by fast changes.. Likewise the city needs to build up to reduce vehicle demands and push for more mass transit to reduce vehicles on the road.
I'm glad they got the smog thing fix but the push to ban gas vehicles and force us on evs is so dang annoying even tho a Google search shows evs aren't nearly safe as they said
Check out Micheal Shellenberger’s “San Fransicko” it goes into depth on how well intentioned policies ruin cities in California. I was born and raised in LA, not Irvine, not orange country, Los Angeles proper, 10 minutes outside of downtown and I hate what an over regulated disaster it has become. It doesn’t even have much of a nightlife anymore and now with the closing of tracks, we have all these dangerous street takeovers.
If the choice is between corrupt businesses governing, or a nanny state, you'd be better off with the latter. Especially if you have a middle to low income.
@@laurensnieuwland4657 those aren't the only options. And at least a business can go bankrupt and disappear. Government just grows. The other option is more freedom for individuals and that's what most of us want.
@gunfzx So you want the freedom to die because you can't afford healthcare? The freedom to have your children grow up scared and traumatised due to school shootings? The freedom, to have your life ruined, due to a corporation firing you without them having to give you any severance? Corporations are always the worse option in the end.

Why not drive the canyons and roads with clean emission vehicles? I just bought a 2024 Volvo V60 Polestar Edition sport wagon from Florida and had it transported to Los Angeles. Since it is a PHEV, it was super easy to get it titled and registered in California. The adjustable Ohlins dampers makes it such a wonderful canyon carver.
I watch California car videos because of the line fever I get seeing MTB lines everywhere. All the runouts are ruined by roads and all the good skateboarding is interrupted by cars. The sixties are over. There are more fun things to do in the canyons than get minor G forces on gentle curves breaking the speed limit. Even in a car I'd take tight twisty off roads any day in a relatively cheap rally car over exotics and over priced, overweight muscle cars in Cali.

You can blame the tire companies for the reason why they don't have light rails and subways anymore because the tire companies bought them all up and destroyed them.
I live in Washington state and nobody here follow the emissions standards. I bought a vehicle used from a franchise dealership and it didn't have California emissions standards and when I called Washington State to ask she said we don't have emissions. and basically just shut me up. I personally don't care , I just don't want to get in trouble or get fined
In Washington the emissions standards only apply to new car sales and dealer service of those. We did have emissions checks in the Seattle metro area for a long time, but that's (finally) gone now.
California is killing automotive enthusiasts😢😢. But at least got Luka Dončić today 😅😅😍. Drive another great video, being from Europe love the car culture I see on videos from US and California 🤟🤟😍
Because of Elon Musk. California would have at least one working high speed rail line by now, but his Hyperloop proposals were intentionally made to delay high speed rail development. He also happened to buy Tesla around that time, so he used the Hyperloop to give Tesla time to develop the Model S and start the EV boom.
@@LouisSubearth There it is, the proverbial "It's Elon's fault" bullshit. I am so sick of the high-speed rail narrative. It doesn't work. The high-speed rail proposal/idea throughout CA has been around longer than Elon and, so far, cost an exorbitant amount of taxpayer money to accomplish nothing. There is an incomplete "system" not too far from me which is an unmitigated disaster. Two decades and nothing but debt. There is a functional public transport in that general area, for which the "high-speed" rail was intended to extend, and it doesn't help. Too few use it to make an appreciable difference. People simply will not surrender their personal transportation.
I drive a R1S and had 3 electric under $10k. I've also had a fare share of v10s turbod sixs and fours and everything in between. My dad was antielectric for the past decade. Now there is no turning us back.
Why not improve the public transport? Why do you need to crack down on car enthusiasts? Have proper public transport so those people who are not car enthusiasts can use it, thus we'll have less cars on the roads.
It reminded me of videos covering right to repair, where farmers in an audience against John Deere about making their tractors harder to repair so they'd have to go through authorized shops and technicians, were accompanied by representatives of large tech companies like Apple and Microsoft because it would later affect their own practices. Manufacturers will take notice if California starts making exemptions for post 1976 cars on the basis of individual mods, and manufacturers on behalf of their customers will opt for dealer installed emissions delete kits to get around CARB rules, making them ineffective.
Much of the smog went away due to factories and manufacturing leaving the state due to the epa regulations, it wasn't because of people's personal vehicles
I thought the video was pretty well balanced. I live in California and dislike the heavy-handed rules of CARB. I want to mod my car. At the same time I remember those days when the air was so bad that our activities outdoors were restricted by the air quality. Sometimes I forget that. I still like my ICE cars, though.
Is that the year.. 1976 .. So 1975 is exempt from testing... Just asking.. I don't really like the Cars after 1972... The Safety Regulation on the Bumpers are ugly to say the least.. I daily a 68 Dodge Dart, It's technically still using its factory style Smog.. That being a PCV valve and Crankcase breather... Even my V8 is Non Smog.. Cop 318, Mopar didn't get forced until after 1975 to install smog pumps etc... Keep on wrenching..
Auto manufacturers should follow firearm manufacturers. Make Cali compliant models for California and sell the rest of us the good stuff. I see a lot of people running Montana plates out there , which i'm assuming has something to do with emissions. Maybe somebody can explain
The dweebs figured out how to come to power in the most desirable part of the world, and now they're going to try to turn it into dweebland and have the rest of the world follow suit.
I got 4 minutes in and had to stop. You represent a new breed of journalist i have zero interest in listening to where your own opinions outweigh facts and research. From snarky comments about fluoride and how the rest of the country (rightfully) looks at California, the idea ANYONE should take you seriously after you missed the biggest thing possible in your video... the simple fact of hot rodding was born in California because of the majority aircraft industry laying roots there... You look like millions of 'internet smart' goofballs posting incorrect information and interrupting history being passed down and just provided proof that you CAN judge a book by it's cover. This is too much of a deadly serious topic to be treated so casually with so little effort... my suggestion to you to is to go back to playing video games and smoking weed, kid, and leave important topics to people who actually know what they are talking about.
California was terribly polluted. It's no wonder that times changed. My cars have to pass an emmisions test every single year! Every two years seems lax.
The future of petrol cars has to be occasional use. Like, you can have them, maybe the regulations are quite relaxed, but you can only use them on the track or the canyon or the event etc. It’s freeways with thousands of petrol cars that cause the problems.
We don't need to ban gas cars from existence. But the vast majority of people will be better off with electric. Especially once they charge faster, there's no reason for anyone to have gas, unless they're enthusiasts. It makes me insane that we could literally be scaling up synthetic gasoline right now and it would be a compromise that gets everyone what they want. But instead we are unrealistically whipping from extreme to extreme side of the political views and we all just hate eachother. This is not how our system is supposed to work. It could all be so much better, we have every capability too make it that way.
No, it isn't. The smart minds know that electric cars are not the answer. Compared to 40 years ago tailpipe emissions are almost nothing. The battle has been won so enjoy it.
@mchristr electric car tailpipes are literally nothing. If you actually look at the world and not just the American political climate you know where we're heading. American car companies are taking the most damage because they didn't keep up with the times, and Chinese EVs are more and more preferred to American EVs, let alone their gas cars. Environmental stuff aside even, it will always make more sense for the average driver to have an EV. They will always be cheaper to run. No gas money and far less maintenance. It just is what it is. They have thousands less parts and will be more reliable overall too.
Every single Car Manufacturer has slowed down production of its EV and has pulled out of the all EV fleet.. aided and forced by its Government.. Ford, GM, Porsche, VW, Etc... in the last year and a half.. Can not justify the losses... Even the last pathetic Administration has to back off.... Here in (🇺🇸).. German Government as well.. This is a good example of Why.. Toyota stated publicly that they will not stop making Gas powered vehicles.. Chine has absolutely no concern for the environment.. The Sales they announced are a hoax.. Search the Miles and miles of Chinese EV registered and.. Parked.. They earn those B.S Carbon credits.. you know the ones.. that can also be purchased.. It's all nonsense.. Drive whatever you want.. Gas isn't going anywhere..
Hey Dan, You lost the plot about 9 years ago. So, I’ll help you out. The next chapter is about his third impeachment, more indictments, and a lot of convictions.

You are 100% spot-on.
Yep, this video is stupid. To many people are the problem, not freedom.
Have you read Marian Tupy's "Superabundance: The Story of Population Growth, Innovation, and Human Flourishing on an Infinitely Bountiful Planet"? He dispels the myth of population growth being the cause of society's maladies.
Do you think, at all? God damn the people in these comments are so fucking stupid they sound like bots.
@@mchristr Hahaha, someone should tell that to Haiti, then they would all realize they live in a utopia! All their problems are imagined.
It didn’t help seeing almost daily pictures of the Los Angeles skyline blanketed in smog all throughout the 80s

Is that why you voted for a dementia patient? That worked out well 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Protect car culture!
Defund CARB.
Stop electing these politicians like Newsom. I live here. It’s horrible for car culture.
Love cars, but I think clean air is much more important

Yes, they did great things.

So glad I don't live in California

Such a shame, California used to be the best place in the world to live, putting aside the cars. Now they are very strict on cars and modifications.
TBH they still aren’t as strict as 🇦🇺 Australian HWY Patrol Police.
Hopefully times will change 😢
We just hope those fleeing California for other states recognize the failures and don't take their same voting habits with them.

Let's not forget that The Canonball Run started here in San Diego!
Florida still loves hot rods.
And tropical storms
California used to be car capital of the world …sad what it is now
Pretty illuminating explanation, nice work. I am still surprised that, since they've had such bad smog issues back in the day, they killed off the tram system (for whatever reason) and kept it dead. It's almost like they shot themselves in the foot.
You can thank oil/gas and car companies for that. Too bad really, we could use that light rail system now.
That's pretty much the US's no.1 favourit pastime.
If you love cars, or simply value the freedom of personal transportation, it's long past time to push back. Contact the policy makers and give money to the groups fighting this insanity.

There was a movie about the desolation of smog. I haven’t seen it yet but it’s hard to believe a movie about California grossed almost a $1B USD.

LA California. Knew none of this. Thanks. Living over UK this clears up why California so stringent
I grew up in socal and it paims me to see what it is becoming
This was well presented. Car enthusiasts should also want to breathe clean air.
Or, actually think about others well being instead of only caring about how much horsepower they can extract from under the hood.
Try planting a tree or two.
Listing Laguna Seca with all those other LA tracks is wild...its only 100 miles south of SF.
It went from red to blue and the blue dont listen
This video is great for people who have never been here or don’t live here. We have the most vibrant & thriving car culture in the entire US. Nobody follows or enforces all these laws here, and they are actively being reversed. The pendulum is starting to swing back in CA, and like with most trends, other states will follow
I've noticed that more and more smog shops are not smogging cars below 2000 model years. So, those who have '76 and up are out of luck.
Dead internet theory in the comments

I'm glad they got the smog thing fix but the push to ban gas vehicles and force us on evs is so dang annoying even tho a Google search shows evs aren't nearly safe as they said
Two words: "progressive" politicians. They've pretty much ruined what made CA great, and now we're sadly a nanny state.

Jetstream used to go across California thru Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, thru Texas to Florida. It also Rained from, November to April or May. The Hottest It got in Summer was in 87° Fahrenheit ( 35.54° Celsius) I never needed shades. There was never a Drought, until the cars got cleaner in the 1990's and 2000's.
The clear sky's, made the Temperatures 🌡 rise. The black pavement on the roads made it hotter.
High ( H ) pressure means no rain and the Jetstream was diverted towards State of Washington to Canada, and the drops down to Colorado into Texas. You can blame the tire companies for the reason why they don't have light rails and subways anymore because the tire companies bought them all up and destroyed them.
Time to start educating our species to only have one child per household. Not forcing, but educating . So that we WANT to only have one.

and basically just shut me up. I personally don't care , I just don't want to get in trouble or get fined
The state doesn't have emissions testing because of funding. But in truth it's unnecessary. Modern cars monitor themselves.
In Washington the emissions standards only apply to new car sales and dealer service of those. We did have emissions checks in the Seattle metro area for a long time, but that's (finally) gone now.

So why doesn't L.A. go pure mass transit if they are a perfect storm for smog? Other communities have done similar, so why not.

I will never understand why so many people live in la.

I thought the video was pretty well balanced. I live in California and dislike the heavy-handed rules of CARB. I want to mod my car. At the same time I remember those days when the air was so bad that our activities outdoors were restricted by the air quality. Sometimes I forget that. I still like my ICE cars, though.
.......get me out of this godforsaken state........
smog emissions testing on 1976 or newer
Is that the year.. 1976 ..
So 1975 is exempt from testing...
Just asking..
I don't really like the Cars after 1972...
The Safety Regulation on the Bumpers are ugly to say the least..
I daily a 68 Dodge Dart, It's technically still using its factory style Smog..
That being a PCV valve and Crankcase breather...
Even my V8 is Non Smog.. Cop 318, Mopar didn't get forced until after 1975 to install smog pumps etc...
Keep on wrenching..
I can’t wait for this CARB bullshit to go AWAY and for manufacturers to bring back supercharged V8s
There's CARB compliant supercharged V8s, however it's fuel economy targets, not emissions, that kill V8s.
Been here 7 years? Try 60.
I always wanted to be part of the cool car people 🙃
Auto manufacturers should follow firearm manufacturers. Make Cali compliant models for California and sell the rest of us the good stuff. I see a lot of people running Montana plates out there , which i'm assuming has something to do with emissions. Maybe somebody can explain
California is not a great state.
They want people to leave everything is set up to drive people away from the state lol
Its the weirdest shit everyone i know in cali is red even the illegals 😂 but somehow cali is blue
@@yzrippinbecause the state is 2/3 the size of the east coast and has more population than most of it too
California is too large and difficult to manage as one
Haha, jealous much?
The dweebs figured out how to come to power in the most desirable part of the world, and now they're going to try to turn it into dweebland and have the rest of the world follow suit.
Easy answer
Don't buy new cars
Don't live in CA
And other states will stop following CA direction.
I just watched another video today 2-1-25 that said, the EPA standards have been reversed and are now back to 1980 standards.
CARB regulations are unchanged...I assume that fight is coming soon.
Turn California RED!!!
Nah, we’ve tried that before, it didn’t work out well.
@@ianyeh75 last i checked half of LA burned down due to the Dems.
Liberals that's how!
ghostfornia
California was terribly polluted. It's no wonder that times changed. My cars have to pass an emmisions test every single year! Every two years seems lax.
The worst state for cars
Wake up dude
Then they need to ban rockets going to space
Most rockets if not all work with hydrogen fuel, so their environmental impact is not that great considering their size and range.
Systematically driving anyone out who has common sense
I am SO glad I don't live in Commiefornia.
It must be weird for you to accept that the founder of popular EVs is saving your right to gas cars. No wonder simps like you are going insane.
🙁
12:50 thanks for the list of states not to live in.
Hopefully Trump will fix this, otherwise Cali is going to be dead in a few years, more than it already is… sad for such a beautiful state
Trump is poison for everyone.
Trump will only fix it if him or his buddies can make money on it
It’s a beautiful state because of environmental protection programs
Hey Dan,
You lost the plot about 9 years ago. So, I’ll help you out. The next chapter is about his third impeachment, more indictments, and a lot of convictions.
