I like the pseudo tail-stock to center the tap. Very innovative (I mean that idea could be 100 years old but new to me!).. Also the solder thinning and cutting of small strips. Again, clever and obviously borne of great experience!
I am using plans for the basic design but I have changed the cylinder design and porting. I am fitting a larger boiler and styling it to look like a Byers industrial loco.
How old is that makita drill ? Been a while since I've seen one like that ! I can already see that this series will be one i will enjoy as much as the last if not more !
Hi myfordboy I want to start steam engineering could you give me any tips on how to start out I volonteer at a hearitage railway so I get how it all works I want to try making a model of a steam train called blue circle and would like to know what gauge you recommend
do you still have your plans for this? I'm very interested in trying to make that cylinder, but I still feel confused about the way the air works.. great video otherwise ! :)
Absolutely fantastic. Thank you for your reply! I'm trying to see if it could fit as the motor for a mill i will be working on for a presentation project. I'll be trying to make it a bit bigger so it can reach 100-120mm from top to bottom.
You continously demonstrate why I still consider your channel to be one of the very best on You Tube. Absolutely brilliant....thankyou.
It seems I learned something new every time I watch your videos. Thank you
Nicely done, love the polishing/grinding stick. Someone can't sleep!

I'm 74 and it was new to me, too! There must be at least 100 times I wish I'd known that technique!
thank you for the new project , there are a lot of viewers who will be very happy to follow you through what looks like an exciting new series cheers
p.s. why don't the idiots that gave the thumbs down , just go and do something else less interesting
Thanks for another neat project. Can't wait to see the finished engine.
I learn all the time from watching your amazing videos - thanks
Just pleasing to watch you work thanks. Oh at the 5:11 mark I had to laugh because I thought it was mothers chilly kicking in lol.
wow, always amazing to see you work!
I learn something new each and every time, thank you!
love the trick with the solder

I enjoy your videos, great work.
Are the cut outs on the side of the cylinder optional? Like, are they there just for cool looks or do they actually serve a purpose?
It would work without the cutouts. The extended cylinder forms a tru=nk guide that supports the pistin big end. The cutouts would reduce friction.
Thanks for uploading a new video myford. Another job well done & can't wait for your next video. :)
Nice work man
wondering about use of cutting fluids to improve tool life.
Very cool project. Any reason why you don't use lubrication while turning/machining?
No lube needed for machining brass.( Or cast iron)
THANK YOU...for sharing.
Me encanta tu taller.
nice job
Ottimi! veramente ingegnosi.
Parabéns, trabalho perfeito! Rio Brasil.
Great video. Do you build from plans?

2:01 the kettles ready
When you make the lap, what kind of glue are you using and what are you spraying on it?
Good video, thanks.
Jack
It's a cyanoacrylic (super glue) with a spray activator. Commonly used for fsticking mitres on kitchen pelmets and cornice.

Probably 25 years old and still working.
what are you doing for batteries for the makita?
There are companies who put new cells in your old Batteries. Just send them in. BTW i use the same drill almost daily. 25 Years is about right.

I too still use an identical Makita 12V drill, works great. Got new battery off ebay
