    I admire your honesty in crediting the design to another, good on you. :)

    would love to see a small 2 stroke engine ;-)

    This is the cutest engine i've ever seen.

    I wish there was a company that made kits

    Man that mill sounds like it has a crook bearing in the head somewhere !

      Bearings are fine. Mill has variable speed pulley drive which is a little noisy.

    Great video. what type of mill do you use? I am wanting to start doing these engines also. any help on kits, plans or equipment would be appreciated. thanks again.

      This is my mill. ua-cam.com/video/jnSlJeYgY2w/v-deo.html It's at least 40 years old.
      I have castings for a simple engine ua-cam.com/play/PLHUJDLlTM_9XoID8BlalHLr9z9rZCIwgg.html

    Lovely to watch. Have you ever used (or thought of using) sintered brass or bronze? Cheers.

      Never heard of this material being used for a piston, maybe because they are porous.

      Good point. I thought it might help being self lubricating though, and I assume you are using low pressure!

      I did once make a simple engine using an oilite bush as the cylinder.

      Good, and the main thing is that it all works at the "end of the day", so to speak. :) Cheers

    Where did you obtain the brass gears?. Making a similar model myself and can't find any that would work

      I searched Ebay and there was a German seller that had them.

    Where did you get the gears from?

    without piston rings how it is possible (creating vacuum in the cylinder )?.

    • @ClaytonwFirth
      @ClaytonwFirth 8 років тому +3

      Good machining with tight tolerances will allow the cylinder and piston to make the vacuum.

    I'm just building one of these myself, how are you finding the plans?

    • @myfordboy
      @myfordboy  8 років тому

      Plans aren't that great but adequate to build by. I have shorted the piston and made the cylinder end cap longer. As drawn the piston covers the ports well before TDC. I am changing the appearance of mine quite a lot. I have a T shaped boiler and a different burner. i have steamed it now and it runs well. How is yours coming along?

    • @oliverandrews8879
      @oliverandrews8879 8 років тому

      +myfordboy it's going well, boiler is made. I don't like the idea of running it without a safety valve so I've added one, I changed the appearance of the piston and made the smokebox in the lathe instead of making it out of boiler copper. I'm making a full cab out of some scrap 1.5mm brass.

    • @myfordboy
      @myfordboy  8 років тому

      The simplicity of the design allows one to modify it as you wish. A safety valve was not on the plans as the spring loaded cylinder acts as one. I have added a safety valve and a regulator so the speed can be controlled.

    • @oliverandrews8879
      @oliverandrews8879 8 років тому

      +myfordboy exactly the same thing I've done, you don't need a safety valve be I want one you know for my...safety 😜

      +myfordboy the only worrying thing for me is that my engine likes to run on 15psi and yours runs the same on 5

      You are very keen. My own loco is not for sale and I have no time to make more or parts. If you are capable of making the rest of the loco then you should be able to make the cylinder and piston, plans are freely available on the web.
