@@attackonchitin8276it is. I was going through my grandfather’s shed and found my great grandfather’s anvil, tongs, and forge blower. I took them home and I’m still designing a forge to start building things out of metal. My great uncle left my dad his old wood working tools when he died, so I have a garage full of traditional tools.
I was under a warm fuzzy blanket, it's not that cold outside, but I was COVERED in goosebumps the whole time. This is definitely one of my favorite songs from the album. ❤️
I've been at their gig last week, and they were using a large metal ladder, a metal thingy with a metal hammer, and the same bronze dish. So the sound it made live was waaaay better than even in the studio version of the song. Very satisfying life and loud metal CLANG. Totally recommend to watch them live if you can.
Really looking forward to this! Considering I was in the crowd in this performance, I can't wait to re-experience this evening Edit: oh well I found my stupid face singing along
This is WONDERFUL! I just wish there were more verses! I have replayed this dozens of times.... an extended version would be awesome and most welcome. BRAVO,Sirs! BRAVO!
Yay! I've been hoping you'd post this! You teased us with a sneak peak ages ago, and since you're not playing it in the States, this is heaven. I know it'll be completely adequate!
If this makes me as happy as Robbie looks in the thumbnail, I will be very happy indeed. Doesn't seem too unlikely tbh. These lads are good at making people happy.
One of my favorite songs. have you guys tried using a break drum as a instrument. back in high school band we would use one to get a really good metallic sound
I like this version much better than the one that was on the album. This one just feels much more natural and like a shanty, because the drums feel more like something you would find on a ship or a working yard.
Honestly, this song is always kind of awkward on stream, so I'm so glad you guys got to do a proper live performance of it (and capture it so cinematically).
I thought to make a horseshoe and asked my hammer thus He said, "I'll ask the anvil what you require of us" The hammer asked the anvil and she at once agreed That they should meet together in the way that I decreed And it's sparks a-flying, passion strong I am the blacksmith singing The hammer and the anvil song I thought to make an anchor, for taking on the main The hammer and the anvil relented once again So they sat there together, as I prepared the cast They braced themselves for impact like a sailor on the mast And it's sparks a-flying, passion strong I am the blacksmith singing The hammer and the anvil song I thought to make a broadsword, for fighting on the field Much as I know the hammer is a nobler thing to wield For though us humble tradesfolk choose a quiet life The gods of war come to the door of the hammer and his wife And it's sparks a-flying, passion strong I am the blacksmith singing The hammer and the anvil song They asked me for a statue of the general who died A sword raised in his iron fist and a warhorse sat astride And though I knew they'd try me for what I did decide I stuck a hammer in his fist and an anvil by his side And it's sparks a-flying, passion strong I am the blacksmith singing The hammer and the anvil song Now all you merry blacksmiths, a warning take by me Stick to your country horseshoes and your anchors for the sea When the gods of war come calling, promising you gold They'll take your hammer, take your anvil, take your very soul And it's sparks a-flying, passion strong I am the blacksmith singing The hammer and the anvil song And it's sparks a-flying, passion strong I am the blacksmith singing The hammer and the anvil song
From what i can tell the bass is typically done by Dave Robinson (the one who sings the part about the broadsword here) as he typically has the deepest voice of the 4.
Love your music. Wish you would come to Colorado so I could attend a concert. Hope your tour goes well so that maybe you will come my way someday soon.
What did Dave have to hit? I couldn't quite make it out. (Andy had some super fancy decorative serving plates or something, Robbie had a beer keg, and JD had a bucket.)
He's hitting a tambourine against a bottle or something, but he's never the center of the shot when he's swinging so it's hard to tell what the other thing he's holding is.
@@thelongestjohns 😱 I had no idea... sadly I won't be in Paris at that time, quite frustrating since the venue is so close to my workplace. Thankfully you'll still be nearby at the end of the month, I'll try to come to Belgium or the NL. Do you tour in Europe often ?
God I love this song so much! Phenomenal performance! (not gonna lie now I want to see someone making a heavy metal cover because I think it will be awesome, in its own way)

…i do gotta say. something i couldnt help but note with the statue verse. of course they would be mad they commissioned a statue and the blacksmith changed it without discussing with his clients who presumably are paying for the whole things thats not how commissions work. So its not that he ‘stuck a hammer in his fist and an anvil by his side’, its that he changed the commission design without consulting his clients and gave them something they didnt want nor pay for. Sick song, that thought just made me laugh.
As a hobbyist blacksmith I love this song! Also as someone else said, y'all need to get an actual anvil for performance!

This is definitely one of my favorite songs from the album. ❤️
This is one of my favourite songs can't wait for the performance!
Just got home from a concert and this song live is such a feeling. A whole crowd stomping, the thud in your chest
Ngl I listen to this every time I forge nothing wrong with singing and swinging 🎶 🎵
I'm not gonna lie, whenever I listen to this in the forge, I try to sync my blows with the rythm of the song, just because it sounds good
I sing this track in SCA bardic circles (with credit) and it's a huge hit. Phenomenal song.
They are such thoughtful and impactful songwriters.

A whole different kind of metal concert heh
One of my favorite songs. have you guys tried using a break drum as a instrument. back in high school band we would use one to get a really good metallic sound
Wow, amazing performance! Please give concerts in Germany or the Netherlands soon, I would even take unpaid vacation to see you live. 🙈😂
Love this song! Would be a great one for a future community project too! 😍
One of my favorites from the new album, great to see this version
I like the lights for the sparks!
I like this version much better than the one that was on the album. This one just feels much more natural and like a shanty, because the drums feel more like something you would find on a ship or a working yard.

Hope you guys add a date in Winnipeg!
Can't wait to see you in a few weeks in San Franscisco!! One of my favorite songs!!
JD's bucket looks in rather better nick than it did at the Folk Festival in Manchester. It was more hole than bucket by then.
I'm seeing y'all on November 2 in Colorado. I'm unbelievably excited!!!!
I thought to make a horseshoe and asked my hammer thus
He said, "I'll ask the anvil what you require of us"
The hammer asked the anvil and she at once agreed
That they should meet together in the way that I decreed
And it's sparks a-flying, passion strong
I am the blacksmith singing
The hammer and the anvil song
I thought to make an anchor, for taking on the main
The hammer and the anvil relented once again
So they sat there together, as I prepared the cast
They braced themselves for impact like a sailor on the mast
And it's sparks a-flying, passion strong
I am the blacksmith singing
The hammer and the anvil song
I thought to make a broadsword, for fighting on the field
Much as I know the hammer is a nobler thing to wield
For though us humble tradesfolk choose a quiet life
The gods of war come to the door of the hammer and his wife
And it's sparks a-flying, passion strong
I am the blacksmith singing
The hammer and the anvil song
They asked me for a statue of the general who died
A sword raised in his iron fist and a warhorse sat astride
And though I knew they'd try me for what I did decide
I stuck a hammer in his fist and an anvil by his side
And it's sparks a-flying, passion strong
I am the blacksmith singing
The hammer and the anvil song
Now all you merry blacksmiths, a warning take by me
Stick to your country horseshoes and your anchors for the sea
When the gods of war come calling, promising you gold
They'll take your hammer, take your anvil, take your very soul
And it's sparks a-flying, passion strong
I am the blacksmith singing
The hammer and the anvil song
And it's sparks a-flying, passion strong
I am the blacksmith singing
The hammer and the anvil song
thx
one of my most favorite songs ever!!!
I love this song, it helped me write one of my favourite sequences I've ever written where no body dies.
I'm so sad I couldn't make it to their concert I love the longest johns
it's such a good song.
I also really love beer is great.
just wish I was a bit longer so you really could use it at party's
More.. I need more. Time to binge content again
Classic and strong lyrics delivered with great passion and expression. Bravo 🌹🎶
Do you guys change harmonies in the chorus depending on who sings the verse? Awesome!
Whoever sings the bass lines with these guys is awesome.
From what i can tell the bass is typically done by Dave Robinson (the one who sings the part about the broadsword here) as he typically has the deepest voice of the 4.
I also thought Dave for a while, then realised JD - that mans range is incredible😊
It's very.. surreal? Seeing the full on metal band stage being used for this kind of singing, sounds amazing tho!
That was primal - loved it!

Boulder next Wednesday my dude!
Can't wait to see you guys in Charlotte, NC!
Can't wait to see this performed live in Charlotte tomorrow!
I’ve waited all semester to hear this and now I’ve got joy
Hi guys, how is it going with Workers Song Community Project
I want someone to look at me the way Robbie looks at his hammer
I wanted to go to the show this Thursday in Charlotte NC but unfortunately can't make it 😢
Rhey are halfway to Charlotte right now. I've been tracking rheir flight!
Yes! Great performance!
This is awesome! Sounds amazing/adequate
Oh i so so wish you would tour more of the US! Houston is just too far for me to drive from the east coast.
Loved hearing this song live when I was at Edinburgh
Could I donate an old anvil for future performances?
im surprised you didnt have an actual anvil you played.
Definitely agreed! You just can't match that ring
Amazing song. Love it.
get someone who looks at you like Robbie looks at that mallet
passion's strong!
Och. Live is just lovely. 👌👏☺️
i cant wait to see yall in nashville
Got chills once Andy started singing. Wow.
You should actually tour Canada and come out to Alberta. Us landlocked shanty singers wanna see you too!
Also one of my favorites.
Very nice. Those are some proper beards !
I can imagine my skyrim character singing this while grinding smithing
Please let this be the next community song
can you please come back to California for a show!!!!!
We were there earlier this month! Will be back again soon

He's hitting a tambourine against a bottle or something, but he's never the center of the shot when he's swinging so it's hard to tell what the other thing he's holding is.
That's not so often that you get a live performance that sounds so close to what they can do in an album. I really hope you'll come to France someday.

Ils prendront ton marteau, prendront ton enclume, prendront ton âme
