Umm no. There is no way a tree caused that track damage. This is lack of matainence 100%. The frogs here in Cali are excessively worn too. I've also seen chunks taken out of catch points!? I just walk the right of way sometimes to work. Riding Amtrak is a gamble because of the back of the tickets arbitrary agreement. (Basically you can't sue them). What a piece of junk company man.
    ALL ABOARD 🎉

The damage to the track was caused by the locomotive derailing not the tree. Besides Amtrak doesn't even own the track they just have rights to run over it.

      Interesting things I see here.
      1- Broken rail
2- Locomotive front truck on the opposite track.
I'm assuming the tree dragged itself to the switch point once the second half of the locomotive was on the track, derailed the locomotive and as a consequence of the tree being on the switch points, knocked the points to the other side forcing the rest of the train to the other side of the track.
Now for the broken rail, it must have been due to the locomotive when being forced to derail.. but... when rail breaks in such a manner it's due to the rail having an internal crack or failure. A much worse accident could have occurred if it was not for the tree in this case.
Imagine that rail breaking while the Amtrak is going at high speed! This accident plus poor maintenance lead to the broken rail.

It seems engineer should have been able to stop and call for conductor to move tree or call mow. Freight train probably would have been fine but when it comes to passengers you have to err on the side of caution everytime. Don't try and push it out of way with plow unless someone is watching from the ground.

Trains do make great sight seeing train trips and vacations… but the ticket prices are very expensive unless heavily subsidized… remember.. Trains where designed for the Ultra Rich and Upper Classes… The train tickets were very expensive to go to the National Parks .. So Rockefeller’s Son, built highways to them to sell gasoline 😂😂😂

Amtrak isn't nationalized. It is a private company that the Federal Government oversees. Though you are right: Pete Buttigieg still has a lot of work to do to improve and expand service. Amtrak has been on the back burner for too long. Though, the Missouri Corridor remains a reliable and safe passenger link corridor. There hasn't been any serious train wreck since the Missouri Pacific train wreck of October 10 1904 where 38 persons died east of Warrensburg when two stean collided in a head on collision.
