Certainly you're not the only one. The moment we meet him we'll regret our decision at first.

I've given up on finding her but still think it's respectful and traditional to ask for her father's blessing.

That's not the rule always. My parents had to marriage against their families will and it has been a blessons because they love Jesus and praise him and teached me the gospel

Praise God for your salvation. But I guess we can safely say that what happened to you was under God's kind providence. What brother Paul shared is what a Christian man should do, being submitted to the principles of God's word.

Awesome to hear this. "Yes AND" I will say that it CAN BE a more powerful testimony to trust in God's ability to change a parent's heart than to simply run away from it altogether. Any man that is willing to marry a woman should get their father's blessing because real men of God (check your bible) don't sneak into marriage or dishonor another household. Those men work within the parameters of the father while praying for God's hand to come upon them... whether that be through a heart change or death of that father. Marrying without the blessing can also create ADDITIONAL family drama and show that you trust in your own ability to protect what you want rather than letting God fight your battles while also testifying of His goodness in you.

Well, good for you man! You are one of the few, who have such great life experience. The trillions other humans "first sex experience" is just pure rubbish and nothing to do with love. They All live their lives wasting time searching for someone that will just like them enough to stay with them. Good For You, but this is a rare experience, not everyone is as lucky or so blessed like you are. Congratulations.

When I asked for permission to marry my wife from my prospective father in law he said he couldn't give me permission as it was up to my future wife to either accept or reject.
We were all Christians and he knew I was being respectful, but he never gave me permission, nor did he deny permission.
We have been married for coming up to thirty seven years.
Would have been nice if he would have given permission though.
    Carl, just journeying through.

@@carljones8334 well yeah he didn't welcome you in.
Perhaps your father in law wanted to say no. But he didn't, he abdicated his authority, perhaps believing he didn't have it. So he delegated the decision to his daughter. Now he has to live with that decision. He should welcome you fully instead of being passive aggressive.
You are part of the family, so for you and your wife's sake you should claim that reality. If they don't treat you right, it's to their shame. You can't make them do right, all you can do is rise above and honour them anyway.
"So we also groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies." Romans 8
"To the one who conquers, I will make him a pillar of the temple of my God, and give him a new name, my own." Revelation 3

So, honest question. Wondering where it says in the Bible that you have to ask the father of the woman you want to marry's permission to marry his daughter? Yes, God does fight for us. Yes the heart of a king is like streams of water in God's hand, and he directs it wherever he chooses. I'm not arguing any of that. I want to know where in the bible it says you have to have the permission of the father of a woman before you can marry her. I understand it's a huge respect thing. I understand that it can show respect and honour to the man who raised her. I'm not looking to stir the pot fam. I just want to know the biblical reasoning behind it.

John Vilyer it might’ve been Jacob. I know his father in law gave him his wives. But I guess it can be cultural. I believe it is better anyway so that it can prevent women from playing the harlot. Forgive me though if I misinterpreted.

@@chapter404th No man it's all good. Like a lot of what you're saying makes sense. We want to respect the woman's we're marrying as well as her family. I'm all down for that. I'm just wondering if asking the woman's father for permission is a necessary part of that. I'm just trying to find the biblical reason for it. And so far am just finding cultural reasons. :(
