If anyone is wondering, the mounts are still solid but the antennas are gone, lost the receiving antenna on the highway last year and the transmit antenna came off this year, separated where the plastic meets the metal at the base. Havent bothered replacing since the truck is on its last legs, good amount of rust and engine making noise with a hair shy of 300,000km on the odometer.
like the setup. but coming from some things I learned from my mechanical buddies. if I had the extra money I got some after market covers from your hood thing that goose inside the cabin are and make a little hole their. for the cabel to rest. also I probably just drill another little area for a firewall. but I understand sometimes you don't want to do that to. one more tip I like to make is before you do anything with wiring or car project is look at everything first and get familiar with what everything is and where your be working around. makes your life so much easier. like I said I really did like your video just thought I say that their could been a few extra options
I already have a clamp mounted HF antenna on the bed rail. Removing the headliner on a vehicle interior sucks. Roof would be a better ground plane, but for local repeater use these mounts work great.
Hey, i'm planing to install uniden BCT15X Scanner for my car, i want to scan for Air band in specific ? Which car antenna would you suggest with bracket mounting?

Why not use mounts made to attach to the bed side lip on the inner edge of the bed if you going to drill and use NMO mount just mount directly on top of the roof
I was thinking about doing this also and having 2 radios going. Did u have any interference with the Am/FM problems? I was going to run 2 gmrs radios in truck
Matt Oesterlei if you are refering to the antenna next to the am/fm antenna, i would imagine it would cause some interference at that close proximity, but i dont know how bad it would be. that antenna is used for receiving only, dedicated to my old scanner to monitor repeapters and noaa.
the antenna comes pre tuned was there any actual swr readings? my mfj-842 tells me great match on vhf high but uhf tells me very bad match. My way thinking is something is wrong with the meter
when i put it on my analyzer i had below 1.5 on both bands i the frequency ranges i intended to use the antenna. They are technically pre tuned, but depending on where or how it is mounted, antennas usually need to be re tuned for optimal performance. I just lucked out this time. the placement i chose for the antennas just happened to work out with the factory tuning, but every installation is different. I remember moving an antenna from my buddies car to his truck, it was very good with factory tuning on his car with the trunk lip mount included, but when we installed it on the fender of his truck it required drastic re tuning, placement can change everything.
the antenna did not come with instructions. I own a ford crown Victoria (p71) police interceptor and the whole was already there in the middle of the roof. So I was able to put the mwo mount there with no problem .The cable I had to buy separately did not come with coax. The coax length is 15 feet was is perfect for the coax run

You can test the steel with magnets to verify the level of stainless! If the magnet sticks, it will rust easily.

Good job.
How does the antenna perform for transmitting? I'm curious because I am looking for a solid mobile dual band antenna. Thanks!
it's easy enough to shape and make you own stainless nmo lip mount bracket if you have a hammer, vise, and Cobalt drills and or step drill.
Can you make a video of you installing the scanner and the mobile radio
Oh ok ya I was wanted to Install a second radio in my truck to tx and rec

do you have any noise issues running the coax under the hood?

👍👍👍👍👍👏👏👏

I was told not to coil coax like you did. Do you have issues with performance currently?
Hi and thanks for the video. Where did you buy the NMO lip mounts? Thanks.
I ordered them from a seller on ebay. there were several styles, but this one appeared to be the best for my application.
Wish you would've shown the radios in the car with it and maybe even have a follow up video
Your Friendly Neighborhood Fireman there is a follow up video. part 3 is where i build the radio rack and power distibution
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍💎
What happen with the Tram Browning Company?

What mount is that called?
Why didn't you get the no drill fender mount? They use the factory fender bolt.
Link to antenna
If you get liquid tape all over the NMO mount what will you do for a ground plane?
they might be 5/8 wave antennas which then wouldn't require a ground plane I'm not sure of the specs on this antenna
The vehicle is the ground plane! If installing on a home, you need to make ground planes

are the antennas for two different radios or did you wire them together somehow
2 different radios, one is a receiver the other is 2m/70cm dual band transceiver.
Never understood duel.
Why two antennas? I could understand if they were different bands, but they look the same bands?
The antennas are the same, connected to 2 different radios.
Ah ok, but why 2 different radios if u dont mind me asking? one for FM and AM/SSB?
+Munky332 one is dual band 2m/70cm the other is a 30-512mhz scanner with NOAA for monitoring and weather broadcasts.
those aint lip mount
speak up,,,,thank you ,,have a nice day...come againe
Never coil your wire. It decreases transmission power
Pretty bad location for your antenna mount .
CABLES SHOWING LOOK LIKE SHIT !!!!!!!!!!
sorry bro that looks stupid on your car
Another "install" video that doesn't show any installing. Only before and after.
the wind completely destroyed the audio. sorry but I could not watch this video.
Okay petal.
