I actually have Jeff’s back on this one. That card sold on pwcc in march of 2023 for 69k. Buying it for 100k is a big gamble. I would pay 75k for it. I feel for the seller and his middle man, they were expecting a nice payday. But making Jeff come to you was probably the deal breaker. I would have flew to Georgia if I knew I could make 30k profit on a card.
Trimming, coloring = Altering. Cleaning/wiping surfaces = Prepping. The gray area is fixing corners, edges, dings, creases with the corner tool or humidor. It does take practice/a little skill. PSA and BGS can’t tell it if you do it right. Bottom line is if you aren’t prepping your cards to get more PSA 10s then you are leaving money on the table.
Here is the problem. When we start introducing grey areas you and I both know people will push that boundary every single time. The line will get blurred, and in the end the hoody will get hurt. Have some integrity. The card is what the card is.
If I offer you 100k and you tell me I would need to find someone to fly out and pickup the card because you are too busy, then you can keep your card. I do not have a fraction of that money though 😂

I agree...I watched the whole video. I knew it was going to cost thousands to get graded. Walk thru most expensive option to begin with, but then a card with a declared value of five or six figures quickly goes up the scale. I actually thought it would be closer to $10k just from looking over the scale for super high end cards. And then NorCal supposedly had a contact at PSA? The card should have been graded a PSA 9 as I've had cards recently graded that got 9 and looked as good (some even better) than this card. They knew it was the product hit and it's great marketing for them. 9 or 10 shouldn't have mattered because it's the true Black 1/1, so PSA shouldn't have sold their soul for a few views.

As a business owner first and collector second….I can understand having to reallocate assets suddenly. It happens. Also he never agreed to the waiting period and he didn’t know it was in a foreign country. If the guy had said yes immediately and was going to bring the card to him, showed up at Cards HQ and he backed out, it would be different IMO.

While I am not defending Kurt's cards .....However manufacturers don't give a rats butt to the QC they allegedly perform and sell SHIT QUALITY CARDS at TOP DOLLAR. They need to measure the metrics of their machines cutters blades etc. on a daily basis . When those machines begin to show a variance they need to readjust them. It won't take long, yet they cut cards with dull blades, unclean rollers, misaligned sheets, etc.
Target the manufacturers FIRST!
Doctoring cards are a result of the BS Manufacturers are doing and abusing the Card buyer.
I began collecting in '66, 5 cards for 5 cents with a piece of gum almost as large as the card itself. The price of cards today are complete BS!😢

I dislike Geoff as much as anyone, but I fail to see how he did anything unsavory here. As far as I can tell, he just said he'd be willing to pay $X amount for it. He never did anything to bind himself to that offer.

If the dude that had the card wanted to sell it so bad he could have offered himself to deliver it in person. There was a negotiation and they asked Geoff to fly to Canada to pick it up. If he chose not to do it that’s his decision. I see nothing wrong with it.
The seller should of been upfront about that VERY important detail lol

Bought a 2021 Prizm Hobby box yesterday and opened it up and pulled a Mac Jones Emergent 1/1, lol. Would have been a monster card 2 years ago.

I like buying raw cards and cleaning them myself with a mico fiber cloth only. I sent some cards in to psa predicting what grades I think I was going to get. And sure enough the the grades came back with what I was expecting. If you know what you're doing and know what to look for you can be pretty spot-on with what grade of a card might be.
lol I’m the one that hit that Ohtani Superfractor back in December 2018. Funny how it got upgraded from a BGS 9 to a 9.5. I should have never sold though 😂

No, I wasn't meaning to say anything negative. I was meaning that's a crazy price for that card. I 100% sold some of my Ohtani's to early too, and left alot of money on the table.

Not sure what you made on the card but sometime you hit these hype rookies and it’s better to just offload it and live with it. Look at Mac jones, 2 years ago ppl were creaming in their pants and screaming on breaker streams for him. Guys about to be working at Best Buy or target in the next 2 years. Same with Kenny Pickett. If I hit one of those high coloured strouds I’d offload it asap. All these bums fetching more money than some Mahomes cards and Mahomes already has 3 super bowls and is on pace to pass Brady. Get rid of this junk while it’s hot, too much of a gamble to hold.
People need help. Doing a 100k deal isn’t a “$50 lot deal backing out” this is a deal that extremely serious, if the buyer decides to back out, there’s zero hate or resentment. If I was selling a 100k card, u want them to be 100%. Anyone who’s bashing him are just weird. If that person isn’t 100%, and I was the seller, I’d understand & would never want someone to do the purchase unless they’re 100% comfortable. But if I was the seller & had someone “back out” out of the deal & react like that, that is extremely shady & obvs they don’t do those deals. This is a level of maturity & respect you do that high. The respect is the same like doing a deal with one of ur best friends. But seeing the dude react like that, shows there’s someone very very shady about it.

Not sure how it works in the sportscard wholesale world but in the rare coin/bullion business most deals are done over the phone and ALWAYS followed through. Fail to go forward and your word is trash. You might as well then then leave and go sell shoes. Your word is your bond and breaking short of a really tragic event means no one else will do business with you. Will this make other dealers refuse to sell to Geoff???
The seller took his time, and shouldn't have waffled when the offer was made. Him taking his time to consider an extremely fair offer cost him the deal. Snooze ya lose, kiddo.

Prizm is hard to grade this year. It may look off center but if you use a centering tool, many are a perfect 50/50. It's just hard to tell with your naked eye.

And what happens when PSA rejects my card for using Kurt's crap and I did not. There's no way they could possibly do this with accuracy. Even a 1% fail rate would be unacceptable.
I don't think this was an agreed upon deal until the details of transfer were ironed out. Until then I believe it was fair game to back out. If they had a plan in place for transfer, then I would agree.
Card prices are ridiculous for rare cards, and some one getting cold feet and backing out of a 100 K deal after some reflection actually shows some maturity. If you have doubts and haven't passed money, you are OK in my book. You can legally back out of a car purchase in NYS within 24 hours of SIGNING a contract, so why not this. Another windfall profit stopped. Maybe Geoff is showing more rationality in buying cardboard trading cards

Geoff Should have traveled to Canada and paid him 100k in Canadian. Imo, the seller/owner changed the terms ,by wanting him to travel 4K miles, so Geoff had every right to back out.

I would say that if you would have immediately accepted the offer than Geoff was in the wrong. Don't allow big buyers to rethink shelling out that kind of cash! Take it or leave it on the spot!

If a seller has a 100K card for sale. It would seem logical that the seller could find the time to get off work for a few days and deliver the card in person. Don't use the excuse that "I can't get off work" to make a 100K sale. The Seller has the responsible to deliver on an item and not require the Buyer to travel. There is probably more to the story than is being disclosed. One man's opinion.

i'm gonna have to side with Geoff on this one... If you're trying to make business with a $100K card, be transparent to your potential buyer. The seller should've told Geoff he's up in Canada from the first place instead of waiting until they agreed to terms. You also have to pay tax duties on your back, unless you decide not to declare it at the border...

Then he could have asked where the seller was prior. Seller also offered to ship, could also drive it to Seattle to avoid taxes. He takes a vacation a month, cost of logistics isn’t at play here.

With regards to Geoff, you shouldn't have to apologize for your number showing up in her DMs. She has got a 🎂 for sure as long as you can stomach the 🧈 face. I agree that grading companies need to come out with a clear statement regarding cleaning a card with products like Kurts card care. I personally think it should not be allowed because it is altering a card, but thats my opinion. If they claim they can't knock a card if they can't see it might be an excuse they use. If they create a statement thats says "If Kurt's card care is known to be used, you will be banned from grading with PSA for a year" or something very strong that will just scare people enough to not even attempt it. The bigger issue for me here is the PSA 10 grade. Its clearly a 9, but due to having a "rep" or "contact" and they knew it was the product hit, they sold their souls for a few clicks and likes.
Grading companies need to put out formal statements on their social media and websites saying Kurts Kard Care is not allowed. Kids and newcomers in the hobby don't know better and the hobby attracts many scammers and scummy people. Best to get ahead of this now.

I've never been a fan of Geoff... but im with him on this deal. If im spending 100k... im definitely not traveling 4000 miles to get the card. Seller could have, and should have tried to meet in the middle, at minimum. But id say geoff got cold feet, and probably started thinking of all the bad deals he's made over the yrs and didn't want to chance another huge loss. If ive got 100k to spend, im going vintage. Yeah Shohei is a beast, but he has to give us another 10 yrs of top notch play, and he'll also need some hardware for his card prices to remain at the level they are. I hope he does! Id like to see him become the best player ever, but with how sh!t happens in today's game. I dont see it happening. Seller should have gotten his ass to the states and made that deal. Its his loss now, not Geoff's
No deal was made, the seller needed 24 hours. That's what happens when you think about it for 24 hours and don't make up your mind and sell right away. Sell! ASAP! Before the buyer develops buyers guilt, especially when that amount of money is involved. P.S. even if a deal was made we all have a right to back out.

The hobby is such a joke nowadays, it constantly takes new suckers to replace all the exiters who have realized it's all a scam for cardboard pictures.
Collectors have been cleaning their cards through various measures for years. Same goes for fixing corners. Problem (for Kurt) is the masses now have a brand name to blame for it.
psa and sgc has already said the rules. they put out interviews where they were asked.
if they cant see it, they cant downgrade it for something thats not there. they cant see the polish when removed…….
as long as youre not trimming, a top notch restoration is ok.
Interviews with a thousand or two views aren’t statements. They grade a million cards a month. Nobody watches the interviews by comparison
