- It’s time TO GET CRACKIN’!
5 weeks ago I did a video about the incredible price premiums for PSA 10s over other grading companies.
While I might think it’s a little absurd, that doesn’t mean that you and I both can’t profit from it.
Let’s bust some slabs open and make some money together.
Let’s Data Dive.

Where's the slab cracking? Crack some slabs teapot! Let's go!!
Great video I’m definitely going to be trying this in the immediate future
Unleash the krackin!
In the future if you crack a slab a security activation will be triggered and destroy anything inside. Imagine owning a true authentic Trade card item.
BGS slabs could be collectible relics. Don’t crack them all haha
Love that BGS has subgrades!
There’s also an upcharges on the card if you do receive a Psa 10!!!
There's also an up charge for going to a nice steak restaurant
You didn’t acknowledge that PSA has a crossover service…I’ve heard it’s tough but I was successful in crossing over a BGS 9.5 with two 10 subgrades to a PSA 10. At least inform people that there’s an alternative option to cracking and they can preserve their 9.5s if they don’t want to risk getting a PSA 9.
Thought the exact same thing lol
SCV and others have said it's a horrible waste of money.
good vid
No one ever mentions the collectibles tax when you sell stuff. Either it's conveniently forgotten, or the mass majority of people skirt the system. But it should be a real aspect of any investing video with at least the mention of the downstream cost.
What collectibles tax?
@@bobcanbeatyou You have a way to learn, fella.
Kurt's is gonna bring them premiums DOWN BABY
If the "experts" at PSA can't catch it, then they deserve to come down.
@@vintagecollector5340 They can't, and they will. This house of cards is due for a major collapse
Imagine if Kurts juice causes oxidization corrosion starting at the 5 year mark. All cards that use it may be destroyed and forever lost. Oh well.
Lit thumbnail bra
Pretty much all of my biggest wins in the hobby have been cracking out BGS 8.9-9.5S that have a lower surface sub grade and cracking them out, cleaning them, and sending them to SGC. I am well over 90% with my gem rate doing this. You learn what each grading company is stricter on and what they are lenient on
The trouble is... BGS arguably grades the harshest , yet the hobby values them the least. Ironically they value PSA the most, and they with SGC are the most lenient.
@@user-zl5fm4ro4p i can’t stand statements like this. Each company has things they grade slightly different. SGC is super tough on centering. PSA is pretty tough on surface. BGS tends to grade thick cards more leniently than PSA or SGC I never said BGS didn’t grade the cards accurately. You would be surprised how many people submit cards without cleaning them properly. Had a Lawlar 1st BC that BGS gave a 7.5 for surface. All of the gunk easily wiped off once I cracked it out then the card looked perfect.
@@ryanra44 Don't disagree each has their own area they are stricter on; but overall; from thousands of slabs i've seen ; typically BGS is the harshest/most accurate. You dont have to like it or even agree. I'm not a fan of taking accurately graded cards; and now slapping a 10 on them; to sell for more. It is what it is. I highly doubt people 99% of people didn't wipe down their BGS cards before submitting. Over time; in an inner sleeve; they need to be wiped if cracked out. It's not magic. More often than not; those cards were accurately graded as 9 and shouldn't be a 10. Yes, their are cases where PSA/BGS/SGC get it wrong; or a finger print or gunk. Those make sense to regrade.
@@user-zl5fm4ro4p please continue to tell me that my cards didn’t deserve a 10. Matter fact. I took a BGS 9, sent it back to them and got a 10 on it. I guess they aren’t consistent 🤷♂️
Id be scared to pop a psa 10 to try to get a sgc 10 cause so many psa 10’s have centering issues now the 9.5 maybe a psa 10 will hit that mark
Every other grading company is just a peasant place holder...until it becomes almighty with P...S...A.
You should test your theory by doing cracking some real life examples.
Two words: artifical scarcity.
On modern I would agree but anything pre 1980s the chances of new PSA 9s and 10s hitting the pop reports goes way down.
@@BPal75 True, but I don't think you fully understand what I'm saying. You're basing scarcity of a card from a numerical grading scale created specifically for artificial scarcity. The population report helps add to that artificial scarcity by giving you a false sense that your card is extremely rare if you have a mint or gem grade. Ironically, condition is everything, because most cards are not rare outside of condition. Even pre-1980s, this stuff was produced fairly heavy. You simply cannot go off a grading scale for true population of a sports card. Only card manufacturers know more accurate print runs, and I can guarantee there was no shortage of vintage cards neither. To prove the scale is faulty, look at the grades some cards get: sometimes, you'll notice lesser grades having much lower population numbers than some higher grades, but yet, it doesn't affect value. That's because the grading scale is faulty and makes no sense. It's been a big scam since it's invention from Alan Hager.
@@vintagecollector5340thanks for your thoughtful reply. I agree with you but I look at card condition as a “parallel” since it has value to collectors. If you take a 1952 Topps card for example yes the actual print run may be large and unknown but if there are only 25 PSA graded 10s, the likelihood of more showing up is small at this point (although possible). To me then that card graded as a 10 is as rare as a raw modern chrome parallel numbered to 25. Perhaps I am in the minority in that thinking, but that’s how I look at it.
@@BPal75 I'm actually in the minority of my thinking, because people don't get what I say. You have to remember the discrepancies with grading: alot of PSA 8 and PSA 9 cards look like gem cards today. You just said yourself that the true population is large and unknown. Therefore, you just admitted yourself that not even PSA can tell you how many truly exists. It's artificial scarcity. There's alot of this stuff in the wild that's still ungraded. I get it, though...I use to chase those better grades, because I thought they were truly rare. I chased grades for years, until I stumbled upon photographs, which definitely has true scarcity. Compare a 1952 Mantle pop report to my 1950s photograph portrait of Mantle. I can promise you'll likely never find another photo like mine,, but you'll find his 1952 Topps all day. To be fair, population of original photos are also unknown, but they're undoubtedly very rare. Many I've bought, I've never seen again for years...and maybe never again. That, my friend, is true scarcity.
@@BPal75 Then compare price points...would you rather have a 1952 Topps Mantle for five figures or a rare and original photo for just a hundred? That's what I paid on mine. I'll admit...I probably got lucky, but photos are often a fraction of the cost of cards right now. I don't suspect that to last forever.
kurts = psa 10
I tried using his wax and it leaves streaky layer that's hard to get off..
Too many variables the biggest being the mood of the graders
This is such BS. I never understood why people say this. I’ve graded hundreds and hundreds of cards and I am rarely surprised by a grade. If you card is gem mint, it will come back a 10 almost every time
@@ryanra44 LMAO, that's hilarious.
@@ryanra44
Ive seen plenty of people crack good 9s and they come back 10s.
Its completely mood dependent.
@@paochicken how can you account that to mood and not just human error or inconsistency? You people act like the same guy is grading your cards each time. Do I think Jim’s wife yelled at him before work so now he is going to grade tougher today? Literally one of the dumbest things I have seen spewed in the hobby
@@ryanra44 human error..Inconsistency?
What you are implying is that there is literally very little standard or no standard at all when grading cards. Hence, the mood of the grader.
Thanks for proving my point. 😂😂😂
Just what PSA wants. More submissions so they can screw you again and again and again. No thanks..... do a better job the first time and spend an extra minute getting my card the grade it actually deserves. Don't play into their game for another PSA opinion
Stop cracking slabs open . Use a band saw or miter saw and cut the top open . There is much less chance of card damage . Using plyers or side cutters is a completely foolish idea .
Correct. Way easier and safer to just use a handsaw to cut the corners off then pry open with a screwdriver.
big dewalt chop saw with a finish carpentry, small tooth blade. clamp it down and rip it. 4 at a time!!
The complaint about the upcharge is the biggest empty argument in the hobby. You have ONE way of your card achieving the sale value that a PSA 10 gets you.
Even after the upcharge, you are making FAR more profit than what a raw or Gem Mint slab would sell for.
Folks complaining are just proving your ignorance. They lack the awareness to understand they're still winning, or the awareness to know their complaining will do nothing, and they should spend time by going elsewhere.
Furthermore, if any of these fools complaining possessed the ability to see their conplaint about a minimal tax for something that BENEFITS them... PAILS in comparison to the 10-100X they're sending away in taxes for little benefit of their own, then I might find it easier that their rationale is level-headed.
PSA sucks balls now, I have used them for 25 years used to walk my cards in thru the front door and pick them up in 2 weeks. No more obviously. Just got a 20 card order back all Tom Brady misc from 2002-2019 got one PSA 10. Im getting older my eyes are getting older im 53 but cmon man 1 10 only. These graders suck balls and its all about overcharging and pop control. Im done grading thanks for the memories PSA you suck balls, now im off to Yelp to leave PSA a great review. Dont be a sucker for PSA anymore.
It's just an "opinion" you're paying for. Use your own eyes. You should know what you like. What are you willing to pay for it. This whole process is laughable nowadays. Just keep paying PSA
As a collector; i hate this practice. It just goes to show you how off the market is; when your cracking a gem mint card; to try and get it labeled gem mint; from PSA , and probably someone that just started grading within the last year, maybe even last few months. Every mint card has like a 50/50 shot at a PSA 10. I used to love BGS; but even still; as a PSA fan; I'd be worried; as the PSA 10 premium won't last forever, especially with modern. The ONLY person this benefits; is the guy cracked; and reselling a month later; in hopes to make a few bucks...aka flippers. If it's just in your PC; in 3-5 years it could be BGS back on top; OR someone like TAG as the preferred slab. That's the state of the hobby though. Everyone in it to make a buck.
the more people, the more competition, the more liquidity= smaller spreads and stable prices. even the flippers serve a purpose
More people doesn’t equal more competition, without demand though. The hobby is all demand/hype. That’s why base PSA 9 is nearly worthless.
Love watching your vids from your associates. They are funny and dumb. This is a hobby not a job.
Please stop the nonsense.
PSA UPCHARGE IS BULL$HIT.... JUST SHOWS THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS ONLY THEMSELVES...
ALSO IVE BEEN TRYING TO GIVE YOU SOMETHING FOR WHAT A YEAR NOW... WITH NO RESPONSE ON HERE.... WHEN IVE COMMENTED WHAT 10-15 TIMES... IM ABOUT OVER IT... JUST KEEP EM FOR MYSELF..... MAYBE ILL GRADE EM MYSELF FOR MY OWN COLLECTION.
WITH NO RESPONSE THATS FINE ILL JUST KEEP THE 1989 TIFFANY BRAVES PITCHER ROOKIES... CUZ THE SURPRISE HAS NOW BEEN RUINED ANYWAYS... THE WHOLE THING ME TRYING TO BE NICE.. HAS GOTTEN ME NO WHERE.... OVER THE LAST YEAR .... CANT EVEN GIVE THE $HIT AWAY HOW DOES IT HAVE ANY VALUE 😢😂😢😂😅
Why are you even trying to give a random stranger a card?
Thats just weird man. 😂
@paochicken Because they are in the Atlanta Area... and they are kinda Rare... and u just thought it was a Nice Gesture...
