I own a century arms AP5M which is HK MP5K (not the MP5K PDW) clone. I did make it SBR. Put HK aimpoint T1/T2 mount with Sig romeo5 (which co-witness with the factory castle rear sight lower 1/3rd) and put a broom handle also from HK parts, left the factory folding brace that came with it on it. At first it had some hiccups with 115 grains. Then shot 2/3 box of 124 grains and after that no problem with 115 grains (I mostly shoot cheapest steel case 115). The only 115 grains that did not give any kind of hiccup before 124 grains was Remington UMC 115 grains. Very very soft shooting. I also have a KRISS vector SBR and this MP5K shoots at least 50% softer than that. Oh one more thing I can recommend for the first time you shoot it is use some sort of thick lube or Greece instead of normal gun lube it may help with the FTF and FTE issues (mine only had FTE).

Nice video, but your claw mount is on backwards. The slant is supposed to be in front so it’s less likely not to cut yourself while slapping the charging handle.
Thanks! Yes I realize that. If I remember correctly, I had it that way, but saw it reversed somewhere, then changed it and since changed it back. It works either way, but as you mention, the angle cut is to give clearance for the charging handle.
While I don’t own a Zenith, with what they charge for one, you’re better off saving the extra for an HK. Zenith aren’t without their issues either from what I understand and many prefer the MKE variants. Would love to get a Zenith for a side by side comparison.
@ChristianGrest I talked to an armorer at Bootleg Bcgs he said he has 5 of them and hasn't had any qc issues and they all run great. He highly recommended them. I'm sure he'd be happy to talk. I had him on the phone for an hour lol.
@@mc4056 yea there’s lots of folks that run them without issues. Lots of folk that run the MKEs without issues. Hard to justify the difference in cost in my opinion. With prices being what they are, the Zeniths are 2K ish and up unless you get a slamming deal. The HKs aren’t that much more. If Zeniths were 1500ish and under, it would be a straight comparison. The MKE ones(the bare bones versions) were sub 1K not too long ago. The version I have runs anywhere from a tad over 1200 and up depending on where you get your deal. With my sample size of 1… I’d do it again and not think twice. Also like the idea the MKE are made on HK machinery as well as licensed by HK. The Zenith are not on both accounts.

Good eye! I did a later video on that actually. The mount was machined incorrectly(the slot/notch for the receiver is in the wrong spot). I’ve since replaced it with a Midwest Unit.
This is true with the older Zenith(MKE) were one and the same as the AP5. The newer Zenith are made here in the U.S. and are great quality, but considerably more expensive.
The AP5 Is what Mercedes Benz is to the Maybach, its not a Maybach but it is still made by Mercedes Benz, its not a HK but it is made on HK tooling, so with that being said I can't really label the AP5 as being a Clone.
Totally get it, but the HK purists typically view anything not branded Hk as a clone. Regardless I love it. It’s been a heck of a nice firearm. Thanks for watching and commenting!
This is true. I think stuff Century imports is mostly good, it’s the stuff they make in house that seems to have more issues. Also back in the day their lack of good response to warranty claims caused folk to have a bad experience about them.
@ those are rifles I wished I had picked up. Definitely a nice one! The Century Polish AK and Golani/Galil is another I wished I had picked up back in the day. My Draco-C has been a heck of a fun one though.
I just looked at HK MP5 yesterday at local FFL. The thing looked so cheaply made, welds everywhere and rivets. No way HK is asking 3500 for that lol. Clones are way to go
For the person that has to have the original, the price might be worth it. I always hear the quality is better on actual HKs and that might be true, but I’ve been super happy with my AP5…. It does everything I want it to do. Had it out again today… it just runs and runs.
@@ChristianGrest it's not true. HK sp5 quality is way lower. Also HK sp5 has one takedown pin in the lower receiver which is weird and gives more wobble. Receiver metal is thinner on sp5 too. MKE Ap5 is best civilian MP5 there is.

Nice review! Im actually researching to get an AP5. Couple of questions, is that AP5 capabale of full auto or is the magpul selector switch only single fire and safe? Also i want to get a suppressor for mine, how did you go about picking your suppressor? I have no clue where to start with the suppressor selection. Thanks!
@@HookEmUp2012 appreciate you stopping by. As for FA, following all applicable laws, I’m mot sure how easy or otherwise these are since I’m not an SOT. In regards to the suppressor, you’ll want a 9MM or larger can with preferably a 3 lug adapter. I run a Rugged Obsidian on mine and it runs great!
@ChristianGrest sweet thanks. I'm watching a video on them now.
With respect, Is your pic rail on straight? Seems like sloped end sb at front.
Great eye! The rail was machined wrong… this is the only way to install it. I’ve since swapped it out with one from Midwest Industries. Did a couple later videos on this topic.
Just got my approval for a Banish 45 suppressor, still waiting for the delivery to my place. How is that suppressor?
That’s awesome! Glad your approval came in…. Hopefully it wasn’t a long wait. I’ve not personally used the banish 45 but have heard good things about it. Should be a good choice.
Have about 2k rounds through mine. Runs great, not one single malfunction.
Same here… not a single issue.
Stupid question. Would this be considered a long gun (rifle) or pistol?
It was originally a pistol, but I submitted a form 1 to make it a short barrel rifle
What refinish was applied on the weapon?
I did not refinish it. The factory finish appears to be a paint on/bake on finish such as cerekote. No issues with the factory finish.
Never seen a reject mount from MKE. Kinda rare.
I’ve heard of a couple others having the same issue. They must have had a small batch of rejects that left the factory
I asked my local sheriff and he said they are not enforcing the pistol brace rule as per its not a law
Outstanding! That’s the way it should be.
Reliability? Does it run defensive ammo?
Ive ran some Hornady Critical Duty and Defense without any issues, but haven't ran a bunch of different loads. It's ate absolutely everything I've ran, 115gr, 124gr, 147gr, brass and steel cased.
@@ChristianGrest Thanks for the reply. If I may ask, I would love to have the classic MP5 (or a clone, lol) in my collection, but I don't like having guns that I can't trust my life to. In your opinion and based on your sample, would you trust your AP5 to be a HD or SHTF gun? Thanks for your time and for the great video.
@@ChrisJames-i1r definitely would. There’s maybe some better options, but this design has been around a long time. As always, properly vet your firearm before putting in a defensive role.
How are the triggers?
I talk about the trigger a little bit in the video. They’re no match trigger, that’s for sure.!
@@ChristianGrest i literally got done typing that and it got to the part about the trigger. Mp5’s have never had great triggers but I didn’t know if made this had tried to clean it up.
@@ExplorinInTheWoods I’ve personally not tried to clean it up. I kinda want to try an aftermarket trigger for it though. I think Timney makes one if I’m not mistaken.
How does it compare to the zenith? I heard the Zenith was better quality.
Oh and one thing I forgot… the Zenith used to be made by MKE. Totally forgot about that. Not sure why the falling out exactly.
@ChristianGrest I always heard Zenith are made on HK tooling. The guy did say zenith puts on crazy package sales sometimes and you can get them for under 2k.
I went with the sp5kpdw
Heck yea! I hope to grab a K version at some point.
True that. I own a PTR-9c and it's like a beautiful woman inside and out. The Dead Air Wolfman is like fine jewelry for it.
Would like to get my hands on a PTR clone of some sort.
@@ChristianGrest The AP5 you can turn into an HK SP5 with an MP5 2-pin lower the SP5 doesn't have. On the ammo, the PTR-9's will spit out JHP's like a Glock.
I’m jealous, I want one bad 🥰
Man they’ve come down in price considerably. PSA has the bare bones ones for super cheap not long ago.
she looks sweet brother !!
Thanks! Man she’s been a fun one!
Get a timely trigger. Their not bad in price about $250/ $300 I'm going to get one for mine. The stock triggers are too mushy
I'm going to have to do that...this thing with a nicer trigger would be perfect.
How much is it
Not sure on the current pricing, but typically 1k +
Who makes a good aftermarket trigger for the AP5?
I hear Timney makes a great trigger for these. Hoping to pick one up at some point.
Thank You for the quick response. I would like to mount a red dot or eotech on to of mine and i am looking for the best mounting solution@@ChristianGrest
Optic mount is on backwards.
Good eye! I did a later video on that actually. The mount was machined incorrectly(the slot/notch for the receiver is in the wrong spot). I’ve since replaced it with a Midwest Unit.
Ummmm, ever seen the Zenith ZF-5P? Closest thing to the MP5 anywhere, plus it's made on HK machines
This is true with the older Zenith(MKE) were one and the same as the AP5. The newer Zenith are made here in the U.S. and are great quality, but considerably more expensive.
The ZF-5P is still the best clone/variant in my opinion. It's not cheap, quality costs you.@@ChristianGrest
@@lololilo1174 no doubt.
@@ChristianGrest It truly stands in a league of its own.
A lot of people talk shit about century arms, ironically those same people love canik
This is true. I think stuff Century imports is mostly good, it’s the stuff they make in house that seems to have more issues. Also back in the day their lack of good response to warranty claims caused folk to have a bad experience about them.
@ChristianGrest pretty much nailed it, however I have an old Cetme C , probably mostly built by PTR, that works perfectly and looks just fine
@ those are rifles I wished I had picked up. Definitely a nice one! The Century Polish AK and Golani/Galil is another I wished I had picked up back in the day. My Draco-C has been a heck of a fun one though.
@ChristianGrest I have a Zastava ZPAP M70 and absolutely love that
@ those are solid! A lot of folk don’t care for Yugo pattern AKs, but I think they’re one of the best values going.
This or a GHM9?
The GHM9 is nicer, fit and finish, but the AP5 is a smoother shooter, no doubt.
❤
Thanks 😊
Noice Rugged shirt.
Thanks 😊
So im guessing the ap5 and ap5-m are different, reason i say cheap than dirt sent a email selling the ap5 -m
Maybe that means mini? Lol
I see yours has a rear stock and longer barrel
Just watched a video where a guy mounted a rear stovk on his M version, which i guess a guy has to register those as a sbr?
Cant tell if you have a longer barrel or just that supressor makes it look that way
The M and P versions are shorter than the AP5 just like the MP5 vs MP5K. Any of these require a Form1 to add a stock(SBR). Mine has a form1.
M is non tri lug configuration
Timney triggers
Yes that’s what I’m leaning towards
Good video but please get rid of The Tick Tock music
@@mikewilson436 appreciate it! Thanks for stopping by!
Timney trigger
I’ve heard great things about the Timney for these. Need to snag me one!
The music sucks so much I went to next review!!!
That’s awesome! Glad I could help you move on to leaving useless comments elsewhere! 🤣
Don't say, "let me show you that this weapon is clear, etc, etc and talk the whole deal out." You own nobody an explanation of what you are doing, AT ALL. Just clear it in a manner you know is right, safe and clear and carry on with your video/demo. People can see you did it, it's like you're tap dancing to their demands. Drop the mag, rack it, and it's done. Don't let the troll mafia force you to dance a little show so they are happy to HEAR your STEP-BY-STEP dialogue. It's aggravating
Agreed, it’s aggravating. But with the constant scrutiny & video flagging, it’s necessary.
Best and Century are two words that never go together
Typically I would agree, but the stuff that they import and never touch is pretty dang good in my experience.
