Film Synopsis:
Tom Cruise delivers a riveting and unforgettable portrayal of Vietnam veteran Ron Kovic in Oliver Stone's Academy Award®-winning masterpiece. Based on a true story, the acclaimed film follows the young Kovic from a zealous teen who eagerly volunteers for the Vietnam War, to an embittered veteran paralyzed from the mid-chest down. Deeply in love with his country, Kovic returned to an environment vastly different from the one he left, and struggled before emerging as a brave new voice for the disenchanted.

The man turns 60, and he is still on the top of his game
Looks basically the same too lol gives me hope for the future
Tom should have won the OSCAR
Best Tom Cruise Performance in my opinion.
@@serenitysmith352 oh yes
Sure. And Cruise can show better than anybody the beautiful american dream turning into a nightmare
Facts
Happy birthday to the absolute legend. He's the only actor that is still pulling crowds to the cinema even on the 6th weekend.
all hail TOM CRUISE!
He managed to deliver a movie that's better than all the comic book movies released this year and is making far more than all of them!
This particular scene just shows how Oliver Stone is a genius. He portrayed, perfectly, the innocence of younghood and the subsequent lost of it by war and politics.
What does it mean Tom Cruise giving up manhood power like that? Just so ambiguous and all.
Sim Ton Cruz oficial ❤
the whole movie , yep.
I can remember vividly watching this in college with my gf and her parents in Waikiki Theatre in Honolulu, Oahu. Wow, 36 years ago, boy that went fast.
Knowing what happens to him, this is beyond heartbreaking.
actors gets oscars & tom cruise gets almost all the fans forever.
Happy 60th Birthday Tom Cruise! Academy Award on its way or else...go to Europe where true talent is recognised and thank you for keeping cinema alive...you dont know how much this means...at least for me
I just watched this movie on some 80's channel. My god Tom Cruise was stunning when he was young. He's still beautiful but when he's asking her to the prom..... I could so feel his pain.
Tom cruise is a legend! 5 decades of great films. This may be his best performance, Magnolia was amazing as well.
I love this guy he's the. Only who made my favorite movies
I saw this when I was 17… I think in January 1990 or December 1989… I was a senior in high school. I got stoned as shit, so I was really plugged into the movie emotionally. this scene here where he goes to the dance and then transitions right into the war, is one of the best directing and editing transition scenes I’ve ever seen Oliver Stone produce.. he goes from innocence, right into the brutality of war… I was so high when I saw this movie, it just made such an impression on me because I was of that age when war came calling my generation, and of course we would be going to war in eight months after this movie came out… Iraq in August 1990. A lot of my friends went and join the Marines.
When a movie comes out like that and your friends joined the marines...
I'm guessing they didn't go see the movie.
Such an amazing talent. Cruise's acting range is so versatile. Born on the 4th of July is a perfect example of it. He went from an high school jock, loving his country, God fearing, awkward around the girls teenager to becoming an angry, shaking his fist at the system drunk and cussing out his own mother before it was all over with!!
Yes.very underrated actor.
He could’ve been Henry Hill in Goodfellas
Tom Cruise is the best!
he's a LEGEND! 💕💕
all hail TOM CRUISE!
I love Tom Cruise and his films.
Damn….what a film
i truly believe that TOM was so INCREDIBLE in this movie. LEGENDARY ACTOR everyone in this movie was OUTSTANDING
Happy birthday TOM ❤️🎂
Merecía el Oscar al mejor actor, transmite muchas emociones durante toda la película.
One of my favourite films. Brilliant throughout
Was Ron Kovic misinformed about Vietnam? Or was he so eager to follow in his family’s footsteps? His father sure didn’t want him to join, but Ron was so determined. I wonder if its the pressures of being the son of a member of the Greatest Generation. I feel these boys wanted to emulate them, that they themselves became the greatest of their generation. Thank you for your service Ron and all Vietnam Vets who came home to boos and insults.
Nixon while having Parades for returning POW's vetoed a veterans benefit bill. Ron is an amazing Human Being, and as a 75 year old movie lover I believe that Tom Cruise in this movie gave the best acting performance EVER on Film.
The worship of war movies, desire to be a good American, his Catholic faith, and the military recruitment pamphlets he saw led him and his mate Richie to vow to each other that the day they turn 17, they will go to the local recruitment office and sign up for the Marine Corps. People like Ron at this time genuinely didn't know what they were getting into, they believed America was a savior bringing freedom and peace to Vietnam.
America was still proud and basking in the glow of their noble victory in World War II, America's finest hour. The following generation wanted to live up to the high bar that their fathers set. America hadn't yet lost a war. Even though just a many died in Korea during this period, but ended in a stalemate. The Vietnam War was in it's early stages with the US. The General on TV is overestimating the war and believes the US will handily win a conventional war. Not knowing that it is going to be a guerrilla war that America is oblivious too.
Ron wants to join and fight because he wants to do his part in a noble war. Mr Kovic is skeptical as he already senses that this is not like previous wars. He is proud of his son, but doesn't think he should be rushing into this proxy war half a globe away.
Agreed. Tough decisions for him because you want to do right for your country, family and faith. I don’t think he made a bad decision. I think america made some bad decisions. Americans didn’t treat these boys right when they came home.
A lot of people missed out on wwII. So they thought Vietnam would be their chance.
Feliz cumpleaños hermoso Tom 🎂👏👏 sos único , una leyenda y última superestrella 🤩🤩🤩🔥🔥🔥 love you ❤️
The scene should end with him transposing to Vietnam, the perfect metaphor for the end of innocence, his and America's.
I love how his dad called him Ronnie yet respected him as a young man.
*acting, plot, vibe, music and love... what more do you need? so much better than movies these days...* 😍

Gosh, he was so hot!
Good film
I like Tom Cruise movie there pretty good.
I’m 46 years old now and still think about this dance/prom scenic…a great romantic moment in cinematic history. All of this from the grocery store to his kiss at the dance captured so much perfectly
Ron should've joined the Navy instead, he woulda come back in one peace

Hi Ronny
Tom looks younger in this film than he does in Rain Man even though he's 1 year older here
It’s definitely the hair
As a combat veteran
This movie messed me up
Don’t let it. What you did was noble and for a great cause. We have freedom because of men like Ron and You. It doesn’t always turn out good and the war effort sometimes falls short but war is an extension of politics and it’s just how things get done when talking and common sense fail. YOU DID GOOD!
Thank you!!!!!!!

RONNIE
close enough
This movie is a bloody tragedy
oliver stone almost didnt want Tom Cruise in the first place!
@@eddiejoewalt7746Who did he want for the role?
@@mE-zx7pt Sean Penn, Charlie Sheen and Nicolas Cage were among those considered by Stone to portray Kovic but Sheen was likely the fan favorite! (people would forget the Sheen started in Stone's Platoon and Wallstreet)
@@mE-zx7pt the other reason why Stone didnt want Cruise was because he started in Top Gun which he dismissed the film as a "fascist movie" because of it Pro-army thing!
To really appreciate this scene, one should recall the kissing in the rain scene in "Breakfast at Tiffany's" with Audrey Hepburn and George Peppard as "Moon River" is played.
what have hsppened with Donna after Ron has returned from Vietnam
I wish they could have told us what happened to Donna.
She never existed in the book, made up character for the movie.
