Its been over more than 40 year since our cousin got tortured to death at Villa Grimaldi. After his death our family had to flee Chile. We are spread out in the whole world. Until she passed away in Australia 20 odd years ago.
I feel you. One of the closest and most important persons in my life (my mom) still struggles not only with the poverty inherited by the right-wing policies specially for people that (for many reasons) cannot adjust to the labor market, but also with the trauma of terror, persecution and loss, to the point of having delusions and paranoia associated with it. She has even been living on the streets for a year, out of poverty and madness and I still don't have enough money to help her. I've heard she's not the only one. I have had to become used to live with a broken heart, in the face of many chileans, even young ones, who are still saying that either everything was justified, or that we should forget it already. How could we forget, if the wound is still alive, if there's still no guarantee that this will not happen again? I send you a hug from the distance, from your family's land, and from someone who is still part of that now invisible community that made us the target of selfish and powerful people to persecute and terrorize.

Those were the years of the tragedy in South America and of the brave mothers. Only a mother can understand the pain of another mother who has lost her child. This song reminds me of the strength of mothers, the strength of my mother and how much a mother is within each child. And when the mother is gone, her love always remains in the heart. Here, Sting, with Mark and Eric's guitar, they still make my mother feel alive here with me
I still weep when I listen to this song. Four decades ago my best friend a young and brilliant labor lawyer and poet disappeared. His body was never found. Three decades ago I was abducted by military intelligence agents and detained for three months. Unlike my best friend and thousands of other desaparecidos I was surfaced and released. Members of my family, friends and comrades danced for me and saved me. Now a new dictatorship/dictator is emerging. The good fight is not over. Let's keep dancing, dancing, dancing. Dance with your wives, with your daughters, with your mothers and sisters..

I am son of the Chilean dictatorship,
I was brought up as an obedient son,
Never get into trouble,
Let alone politics,
Never saw or heard anything,
Specially in the news,
I was told we were in war with Marxism
But also I was told that we were free,
Nothing could have been further from the truth
Thousand of my people dead, just because of their ideas, and also because of being poor,
As a country, we have no appreciation for human life in every single way,
But we are the “best economy in Latinoamérica”,
Uneducated, physically and mentally ill,
We are into a deep relationship with deception,
We don’t want to see nothing that shows out purulent past,
We are no longer citizens,
Actually, we never were,
Just consumers,
Christ our True King have mercy on all of us who endure in believing that Justice is both real and inevitable. peace from Iowa, Necyn.

Thank you, Gordon! It is such a sad and haunting song. And it is still happening all over the world. Never forget...!!
this is a requiem from Sting. 25 years a am crying from this song

This song touches the soul
I have not heard this song in over 10 plus years. However, the song is just as relevant today as it was back then. I'm actually in tears hearing this. HAVE WE NOT LEARNED ANYTHING AS A PEOPLE?! WHERE IS THE HEART CONDITION?!
A master piece, thank you Sting
I so agree and thanks for your reply Richard.ife. Sting has been my. Mini hero. his words and voice speak for all of us. I am a mother and I have danced alone and with my daughter too.

Hey if Amber placed a turd into Johnny's bed. I would say she is in deep shi:. Maybe I am wrong about this but I do not think so.
Cogito, ergo sum.

This entire album reduces me to a puddle of tears every time, goddammit
It’s a big club, my friend. Peace.
A dance far too many people make now. Nation after broken nation. The cases go on, and on, and on.... This song means as much now as it did then.

This song still has weight and significance now just as it did then.
@Luigi Raimondo Pomo So many bad people, Luigi. This makes me very sad BUT we can never, never give in to tyranny or oppression which are very evil things. This song inspires me to keep fighting even with tears in my eyes. Palermo, huh? Home of beautiful architecture, great food (mmmm....arancina), and very beautiful people! Mille Grazie, Luigi. It was nice to "meet" you! Sii sicuro e felice!
@Luigi Raimondo Pomo No I do not know Sepuveda's work. But I found an english translation of Rebel stories. I will let you know what I think. Thank you for the recommendation. Hope you have a great day!
@Luigi Raimondo Pomo How are you? I hope this note finds you well. Have a great day!!
@Luigi Raimondo Pomo It looks beautiful there! Spero che vi divertiate!!
We'd all like to believe a 'popular' musician of today's time would have the courage ....sadly there aren't any.
Thank you Gordon, for giving music a higher purpose. Reaching hearts and minds through the arts.Peace.
This is art.
What a beautiful elegy. Only Sting could do it as perfectly as this.
🇩🇿 Dear Sting ,
Thank you for your deepest words to the deepest heart of the earth. Thank you for the beauty.
Que la terre vous bénisse.

MASTERPIECE.
SUCH a beautiful song for today in 2020!
So beautiful tune, definitely a tribute to all those women... so moving. Thank you Sting!
How we wished so called humanity could have shifted into a better place since he wrote this. No end to struggle
Thank you Sting
You knew it was good when it came out. The passage of time shows a songs merit. Never saw this on mtv. Prob didn't have guts to show.
Gran artista y gran persona!
What tragedy? The economy went up? Chile is the richest country in South America (in terms of gdp per capita)? What tragedy?
@@kongshvalmagyar4984 the Pinochet miltary régimen

GRACIAS
We shall always be grateful to Sting for this homage in honour of the arrested, tortured, and disappeared ones during Pinochet's Dictatorship. 🇨🇱🤝🏼🇬🇧
Think he ended up on Pinochet’s ‘ hit list ‘ didn’t he ?
obrigada Sting.
Thanks for watching and listening to my songs, Thanks for your love❤and moral support. I hope you have been well entertained over the years?
Such a powerful song ..it breaks me down everytime I listen to it 😢 😭 😢 😭
I desperately hope that this song will be an inspiration to the Russian mothers and grandmothers who see their sons and grandsons sent to another country
A leader won’t listen to foreign voices
A leader won't listen to protesting students
Hopefully a leader will listen to the voices of mothers and grandmothers
I am deeply praying for this
❤️❤️
Mi associo alla preghiera

DEEPLY TRUE
Seven minutes that simply flies by. Timeless has a dual meaning. Gentle, soothing, sad, and uplifting. Who played that beautiful solo at the end? That's perfection.
During the late-80s I worked with a team to collect evidence of a mass grave, and this song reminds me of the terrible sorrow these atrocities sow.
