I am starting a new job in San Pedro Sula in January. Any thoughts on specific locations for a good/reasonable apartment? Thanks, enjoyed the video.
hola! Sorry we are so late to responding! I think the best bet would be to stay at a hotel or an airbnb first. Then when you arrive you can decide where you want to be long term. It will give you a better fee of what you feel most comfortable with and what you like.
I absolutely love your video! 💗 My abuela is from Honduras and hasn’t been back since she left. However, she’s 90 now and won’t make the trip, but I would love to bring her stuff back! I’m currently researching the area and planning a trip for my 30th birthday next year to visit and your video really encouraged me to go 🥰 Thank you so much, going to subscribe as well!🤗🇭🇳🇭🇳🇭🇳
so me personally living here 12 years now after growing up in the Riverside California my whole life, is Honduras safe? It depends. When I first got here I wasn't as financially well as I am now, and so I took public transpiration, bought at super cheap places, and lived in cheap neighborhoods so during that time I got mugged 3 times (never ever living in SoCal did I ever get mugged) now that I live in a better area, it's super chill, safe, I don't panic as much as I did before and I've haven't had issues in years! I love it now! so I think relative to other 1st world countries, it's not safe, because the fact that I can't recommend anyone to just pick a street here and walk around is a big red flag. of course other have just as much violence as Honduras does, my biggest issue is that there will NEVER be justice in the court system or with police which makes it scarier for me. is it EASY to stay safe, yes it is and overall is it safe? yes! but the context of that safety is important to learn here in Honduras.
I agree, in my experience living in poor/dangerous areas in Honduras I've thankfully never have been robbed or mugged, but that's me living in a dangerous area. I don't think tourists need to worry as much if they stay in tourists areas, comercial areas like malls for example, its just common sense and precaution
Agree with you both! Safety can sometimes be random and sometimes it can be the situation we are in when it comes to our resources too. Personally, I had been robbed several times living in Atlanta and even pregnant in Indianapolis (if you search my name on google there is literally a news article about it). But admittedly I lived in a more dangerous neighborhood because we struggled financially in the states. I also feel as a person of color I would fear for my life because of racism and police brutality against brown bodies. I don’t feel that here…ever. To label ANY country or space as entirely dangerous is ridiculous. As you both said…it depends.
@@MinervesOnTheMove oh wow sorry that you had that experience is the US (and while pregnant). In Honduras though the major hot spots are SPS and TGU but I have friends that live in La Esperanza for example and it’s not even close it’s so much safer in these smaller citiies. If we do what El Salvador did omg we will be so amazing
But in here unlike the US,you will not get gunned down by a random shooter in a mall or in school...And we are not at war like Europe, nor try to start a nuclear one
Haha that’s very funny! I love your videos and showing the real face of less travelled countries. Definitely informative. If we listen to statistics and go to some places, we should be dead by now! Which places do you recommend to live by the beach ? I heard good things of la Ceiba and Trujillo ( Roatan too but a bit too touristy for me )

Im from 🇭🇳 came over to the US at the age of 15 I live in Philly and the crazy shit that goes on in this city got me questioning the US lol if it wasn’t for economic reasons I wouldn’t even wanna be in America 🇺🇸 life is too fastt in this country dont know how to explain it
I have lived in Portland, Oregon, all my life. You can imagine the agonized screams from your friends if you moved here! But Portland still has many positive things to offer as well despite the bad publicity it's gotten lately.
Hi! I really enjoyed this video! Last year I went to Belize & Guatemala, and people told me how dangerous it was and that I shouldn't go. I never felt scared or worried, not even once. However, a lot of people say that Honduras, and San Pedro Sula in particular, is way more dangerous then the other Central American countries, especially since gangs from El Salvador moved there. What do you think? I think you blend in better than me, I speak very little Spanish, and I'm from northern Europe and white, I know I will get eyes on me lol. Some people even say going on a bus or taxi from the San Pedro Sula airport can be dangerous. Is this true? I need to get to Utila, and the only way is with car or bus from San Pedro Sula, or airplane (which is expensive for someone traveling on a budget). Once again, great video! You are so correct and I recognize all of those comments you get from other people who are afraid of traveling.
Great question! I had thought that as well when I’m in Latin America I usually “blend in.” I can’t speak for people who don’t look like me but can tell you what I’ve seen. I have plenty of coworkers (some in my videos) who are white and def do not bend in 😂 who go all about the city night and day. However, them and myself included use taxis, go to public venues, and dont wear anything flashy. If you have been to El Salvador or Guatemala I think you know how to travel safely and will be fine. Catrachos are the friendliest people in the planet. I say come and see for yourself ♥️
That's an interesting point about expat versus foreigner. I never considered this. When I was studying in Spain, I was called a foreigner, not an expat. When I lived in South Korea, any native English speaker living (regardless of country of origin or color) were called expats. Maybe it's colloquial?
