📚Description: I've wanted to add a Celebrity Firebird to my bird collection for quite some time, but didn't agree with what sellers typically ask for them. A viewer of the show reached out initially wanting to trade his for some type of an explorer but at the last minute found a local trade for one with a different guitar. The deal was called off until he decided he wouldn't mind a 2nd explorer but since the "new" one he picked wasn't coming in stock anytime soon, he decided on a Les Paul instead!

Yup, 7:12, I don't believe it has a short neck tenon, because technically it doesn't even have a tenon, long, short or otherwise!

Example; The scientific explanation for some people is pareidolia, or the human ability to see shapes or make pictures out of randomness. Think of the Rorschach inkblot test.
I believe this ability is tied directly to a very active and healthy mind, of which Trogly obviously possesses. It also makes for great content during Austin's voice-over during his videos.
16:22 Due to the design of the Firebird pickups you can not have them open without cover.
Gibson would have had to install regular humbuckers for the double white look.
IMHO, this Firebird is best with it's regular/traditional pickups.
That's what I was suggesting. Dual White Humbuckers would've made this run so much more unique as there aren't many stock humbucker neck through 'Birds in general, even to this day

I love EVERYTHING about the black Firebird. Only little thing, replacing the pickguard with a plain white single ply part would make it better looking to me.
I'm on the other side, where I'm trying to get a black guard, with a silver bird logo... Like the 2006 zebrawood, but Gibson advised me years ago that "There's no such thing" and hung up on me. Chinese market versions are DECALED and other vendors do not foil stamp the Firebird logo (trademark issues)... It's like being in New England: "Yah cahn't get theah from heah." Any practical solutions? Mine's a 2006 Historic with the darkest rosewood fretboard. Plays magically, and when I bought it new, it was priced as a Studio. Doh!
@@DouglasMcLaughlin-kq7hk Maybe get the pickguard with the decal and spray it with flat polyethylene so it doesn't rub off. The logo is in a spot where you're probably not going to rub on it when you play, so it may last a long time, who knows?
@@tbdog99 Approaches vary...DECOBOOM offers to take MY existing pick guard , fabricate it to specs/ match geometrically in a CLEAR plastic, and have a logo etched/ applied on the flip/inside, then opaqely paint/ cover/ sandwich so the routing doesn't show through. Great idea, but not authentic and far more costly. Opportunity is knocking, Gibson. Make some and sell them to ACTUAL BIRD OWNERS, not wannabes. Aftermarket parts along with Dirty Fingers and Tulip tuners... DUH!

I forgot about that series of celebrities by Gibson. Ovation made a model they called Celebrity buy it was a basic model acoustic.
Firebirds are great. Really one of the best kind of guitars I have ever played.
60's Firebirds are magical guitars. I've always loved the tone from those underwound pups so even if the 90's versions don't quite stack up, I still dig 'em.

Both "collectible" and "collectable" are correct spellings. The former is more common in American English, while the latter is often used in British English.
My favorite of the Celebrity series is the SG, because it reminds me of the awesome customized-Custom SG that Angus Young favored in the late-80's
Since the knobs are painted on the underside you can probably just polish the marks off.

The guitar is 30 years old. It's in amazing shape for it's age. Especially those frets and the gold plating.

Tuner grease makes the marks visible in UV light.. There is no rubber in between.

The Firebird has long been something of a curiosity for me since I was 13 and saw a photograph of Brian Jones holding his in a posed photograph with the Rolling Stones from 1965. I've had occasion to pick one up and play it on the floor of a retailer, but I don't know if it's ever going to be an instrument that will find its way into my collection either it or its Thunderbird counterpart would have to have chambered or semi-hollow cavities in it.
Co-inky-dink... my 2006 stamped on Brian's 64 th birthday.
i bought one of these in 91 but it had black pick guard and black trussrod cover both with gold printing on them. didnt really like it so i traded it a couple years later for a 93 SG in burgandy with full pickguard. mine had black knobs with gold centers. i payed brand new 1150.00 from atlanta discount guitars in 1991
All I could hear was “ insane in the woodgrain, insane in the grain!”.
VERY cool guitar. Bridge PU is really crunchy.
I have one of these firebirds and a warning is the white knobs come off so easy (notorius for it) and replacements are scarcer than chooks dentures. Maybe a bit of blue tack on the pot stem would be a good idea.

I had the Black Les Paul of that set.
There are only 25 of those.

Best guitar I ever had my hands on, the ONLY Gibson I ever had that was perfect.

I just have to say this today. Sometimes its crazy how you dont notice stuff over time like us watching your videos first thing in the morning every single day. (Im german, videos come out at night for us) I just watched an old episode and its incredible how your playing has evolved over time. This isnt just mindlessly noodling something anymore. That thing sounds amazing. I watch these videos all the time and rarely ever find myself surprised by the sound of the guitars but this thing perked my ears up as soon as I heard it. Clean or distorted it is rich as all get out.

Pretty hot Firebird pups in this 1991 Celebrity Firebird. I think these had ceramic magnets. Not really a vintage tone but I like it. (I have similar ones in an SG and a Les Paul, they are very nice.)
I would have preferred the “Celebrity” on the truss rod cover and not the pickguard, just because like that USA Classic, the letters can wear off.
Edit: I wonder if thats a gasket, or they put too much lubricating oil inside the tuners and it leeches in transport and reacts with the lacquer. (It’s always recommended to remove tuners and let them sit overnight if you have to re-apply the oil.)

Years ago, after playing the Bird, tried an Explorer and thought it's too light. They DO feel giant.

I'm not a fan of big chunky necks. As a metal guitar player I like thinner and more faster necks.
Cannot get enough of that Firebird pick up sound. Only humbucker sound I really enjoy!

Love the look of that bird. Gibson is sworn not to reissue that model. (They put it in "black and white!) FOOD FOR THOUGHT: What if Gibson was to do a Spotlight Special version Firebird? Neckthru, flame maple neck, flame maple wings, walnut center strip, edge binding etc. No pickguard .... So it would have to have a backroute for the switch. Too wishful? 🤔

When Gibson brought back Firebirds early 90s, the pickups are slightly wider in the E to e axis and much hotter than 60s pickups.
My 2006 reads pretty close to these ...

There's a Les Paul Classic Celebrity on Trademe here in NZ, been on there for ages, and I'm scared that I'm going to have to be the one to buy it cos I cannot afford nor do I have room for any more guitars but I need it badly.

Just my idiotic 2 cents; I think you should consider using a different amp to show case the cleans on the guitars being reviewed (and/or tone/mic setup) . I'm kind of in disbelief this guitar like many of the vlogs I watch lack distinct tone... but then (?) Sorry if I offend anyone.
Trogly one thing I would suggest only because I love what you do, is clean your work bench when working on your guitars.
I love Gibson but will never buy another one with the strap button on the heel neck joint. Design flaw that invites neck dive and discomfort...and only exacerbates the Gibson tuning problems.. Dont believe me? Next gig play the first set with a Gibson SG then second set play a Fender Strat or telecaster the difference is day and night .
The Celebrity Firebirds are at the low-end of the collectable Firebirds. Good if you have a little money and are just starting out. Nice, but.....

Firebirds are not a beautiful guitar, but I can admit that they sound the best, Neil Young was right when he put a firebird pickup on his "old black" Les Paul!
A study needs to be made as to the relationship of black to other finishes... Wonder if N.Y.'s firebird pickup came from a black one? Ahhh.

The pickup cavities have lots of buffing compound. Gibson should clean that prior to leaving the factory.
Some one with better eyes then me should look on reverb at a 2007 gold top hush, I mean it looks good, but man does the serial number look chibsony
Agree on the black switch tip to continue the tuxedo theme. Gibson REALLY needs to let you design a guitar. You frequently comment on design and you definitely have a good eye. If they did, it would be the most cool Gibson ever.
Took the Yellowed/ Ivory tip off, put black one on; replaced reflector knobs with black speed knobs. Beautimous. Seeking black pick guard to finish look. Original parts in airtight packaging, deep in vault.
U.S.A.F. called them SR 71
Do a vid just on pickups dude, particularly Gibsons, explain the difference in construction and you have plenty of sound demos to put with each
