It’s gonna be cool!
Congratulations boss! I do fear for your lower back later on. After 16 years of Les Paul crushing my spine, I changed to a SG and Tele. Always the best! 👍😃🌎🌏🌍🇮🇪🇨🇦
Excellent choice! I love my V and have had it since 2007. School of Rock was part of the desire for me as well, since I was at just the right age to be impressionable when it was released.
For me, I was enamored with the classic white ‘67 reissue that was available at that time, but with the upcharge for that finish you got an ebony fretboard and it was totally worth it. The only mod I did to mine was installing a red Sanwa killswitch (inspired by Buckethead), but I’d love to do more in the future. Can’t wait to see what you do to yours! Congrats on the acquisition and I hope you enjoy it!
I’m stoked to see what pickups you drop in. I’m sure they’ll be a huge improvement.
I can't wait to see what you do to make that V a killer! I predict some serious shredding in that guitar's future! 💯👍
I'm bummed out we didn't get to hear what Glen thought about the neck?
Two Irish dudes in Canadian tuxedos, talking about American guitars.
So much culture.
Yeah but you ever see two American dudes in Irish tuxedos talking about Canadian guitars?
It’s no fun.
As a Canadian, I support others wearing our tuxedo
@@methanedirigible True. I once threw up on myself after drinking Jameson and trying to tell someone that my Godin is cool.
No one was amused.
...guitars that came from Japan.
the intro Troggly style was hilarious
Actually it wasn't! As much as he tries to call out other channels and companies it came across in bad taste!
@@srh361okay i can see your take for other vids, even though id argue its more video journalism than a call out. but how is this “calling out?” he made a lighthearted joke because he bought a gibson and trogly loves gibson. if anything its a respectful nod to him, calling this a call out is a little sensitive imo.
I was amused, I think Trogly has a sense of humour
@@dw7704 has nothing to do with Trogly.
@@crazyturkturk1733 I didn't he was "calling out" trogly, go back and reread my comment. I said the way KDH "calls out" other channels, it's about the way he chooses to make videos. I guess you don't understand.
A famous Flying V player you’re forgetting is the one and only Michael Schenker. I remember him telling a story where KK Downing bought the one he originally wanted.
Jon Nodtveidt is also notable for being one of the strongest writers ever and he could do vocals at the same time
THANK YOU - exactly my thoughts. I grew up with Michael Schenker, also the Scorpions. And both brothers are synonymous with playing a V.
Michael switched to Deans at one point, but he plays Gibsons as well
Michael Schenker is arguably THE guy to make flying Vs synonymous with Heavy Metal. He wasn't the first person to play a V, but he definitely made it popular.
Anyone who doesn't know him, he's a melodic genius with godlike vibrato. He's also a bit of a lunatic, but guitar wise was sensational.
He was a massive influence to Hammett, Mustaine, Hatfield, Randy Rhoads, Slash just to name a few. He's the missing link between guitar playing in the early 70s and guitar playing in the late 70s/early 80s. Really doesn't get enough credit for his influence.
Yeah... Rudolph was the first one I saw playing one, but Lenny Kravitz in the "Are you gonna go my way" video.
"Players grade" Gibsons are awesome for "no guilt" modifications and customization!
Something about the "NO ROSEWOOD" made me laugh. It's like a a circus tent with a small little sign on the entrance that says "No clowns here" Scooby Doo style. Oh, better not go in there and look.
*Glenn Fricker has entered the chat*
I have a 2006 Faded Cherry flying V and it's my absolute favourite guitar. Something about it just hits right. As a huge Michael Schenker and KK Downing fan I got my red V and never looked back. I've always loved the '67 layout, it just looks and feels right.
@InjectBleach-em9tggreat for scissoring
GLENN FRICKER IS AN IGNORANT TROLL MORON!!!! And when it comes to sound and amps he doesnt know hos ass from a hole in the ground!!!! NULL TEST THAT MORON (you know enough about science to MISS-APPLY IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
same, ive been looking for ages.
@InjectBleach-em9tg Everything.
@Metallex I have the same guitar. Absolutely love it.
Your cutting technique with that Stanley knife is chaotic 🙈. Cut AWAY from you fingers, man! Love the Trogly reference
I came to comment on how uncomfortable I was with his use of the box cutter.
Glad I’m not the only who noticed I kept expecting for bright red liquid to start showing up 😂
@@Talon18136life juice everywhere 🫣🫣😂
Accept should have been shown in the history section, they were THE Flying V band in the mid 80s!
They even had two burning Vs on their Restless And Wild album art :)
I have that album, bought way back when... It always amazed me somehow that you would do such a thing.
Later on I learned from Wolf Hoffmann they'd actually used fake Vs 🤣🤣
But yes - Accept was, for me as well, the quintessential V band.
Even though pretty much all the riffs of that album Wolf played on his favourite white Strat!! 😎👍
@@claudevieaul1465 Its the image that is important :D haha
@@BlazonStone Definitely!! 🤣👍 It was pretty much all we had in the pre-internet days... 🤘
Love it, Great vid KDH.
The perfect combo KDH and Glen for all my guitar video needs!
Nothing, like finally purchasing the guitar, you chase and need for years. Have fun, man!
bro i love trogly so much, this is an excellent impression and tribute! great video :D
Congratulations :) 2024 has been the year of Gibson for me as well. Never owned one before this year, but I have 2 SGs and 2 LPs now XD. Pre-owned, but in good condition, reasonably priced, and they're a joy to play. I finally understand, after all these years, why people like Gibson guitars so much.
YOU GAVE IN. HOW COULD YOU (i like gibson)
Wow, you guys are lucky to be so young. When School of Rock was your inspiration to start playing. Mine was my dad. 1979 I had my first lesson. I was 7.
Looking forward to the mod video! 😁🤘🏻
I've always loved the '67 reissue aesthetic (that pointier headstock with the massive trussrod cover)! I love the control layout and pickguard design.
I'll get around to making my own one day soon.
Congratulations. I have been gassing for a Gibson V for some time. KK Downing and Michael Schenker were a big influence on me.
Finally a true Gibson lover !! I love my 60 s standard Unburst..2022.. flawless
Congrats on the V. I recently got a designer flying V with the dirty finger pups very cheap and geeked out like you did when i got mine
Already looking forward to the next instalment of K&G in the garden upgrade video👍🍺
I enjoy this channel way too much
Congratulations on your vintage Gibson “Spud Lab” Flying V !
Definitely cool. Looking forward to seeing the mods.
*S☠🎸R*
Definitely your best intro.😅
You should try that Super 3 in the neck. The mid bump might do you well there.
1996 is my FAVORITE YEAR for anything. It was a wonderful time. I got my first official guitar in 1996! A tuxedo Strat.
I love the Tuxedo V also. Black and White is the best color scheme ever.
Congrats on the (old) new guitar.
I never thought I'd be old. Us late model gen X'rs still can't figure out where the time went😢
The 90s were the last great decade, and the end of history for post WW2 western civilization.
90s were the last great decade.
KDH finally joining the gibson club! Best guitars! 💅
Welcome to the club.
You guys are a great double act. I would love to hear the bridge pickup before and after
Recently got a black ‘99 SG in a similar shape with loads changed on it, it was all the changes and the condition that really made me want it.
I subscribed a long time ago. I have the same V. Mine is stock though. I love mine. Unless im sitting down then it impossible to play but standing up it’s great. It is a beast.
For me, Andy Powell and flying V, loved his playing for more than 50 years.
Love it mate , I have an Epiphone Korean a older one and it’s light and plays like a charm❤❤❤
that guitar has been reliced in the correct way. its a beautiful animal. congrats!
Congratulations on your new guitar. I’ve always wanted one but never pulled the trigger.
@InjectBleach-em9tg simply be happy with the guitars I already own.
I bought a cherry one in Jimi's at Christmas. The neck just fits my hand like a glove. I love it.
It's nice to see someone "in the trenches" modifying a guitar. It's what we (eg: "the OLD guys") used to do way back when.....and we still do. Way to go KDH!
Congrats! You got a great one! Btw, you’re approaching 100k followers. Got plans?!
I too am a 96 model, and I feel vintage as well.
@InjectBleach-em9tg Except you, apparently
Welcome to the family... ;)
I, too, got a V recently. As-new 2022 so naturally I'm afraid to ding it. Good on ya for getting a player grade and not some minter! Since you're a gig monster, makes more sense 🍻
Play it, don't protect it! We'll, don't drop it! You know what I mean! 😂
@@traviesoarcefan3063 I... do...play it? Just said I'm afraid to ding it, sheesh!
@@wretchedrider2157 Have fun, buddy! Give her hell! 😅💯👍
A proper 'blues' guitar. Well done! 😃
Definitely consider putting a Gibson 500T pickup in the bridge position. I have a 2001 Gibson '67 reissue V in white and I couldn't imagine it with any other pickup. Its perfect for it. Kluson also make some locking style replacement tuners that should drop right into your existing screw holes and headstock holes. And for a bridge replacement, I think TonePros would suit it well. Regardless of all that, looking forward to seeing the mods you make on this one.
Very interesting video, look forward to seeing the modifications. Very interesting trick with the bridge. Are you going to use lighter fluid to remove the glue from the stickers? I have found that it works well and doesn't damage the paint. Not sure about the finish on Gibsons.
I can’t wait to hear this on some walker records 🤘
LOVE THE TROGLY BIT
I love you guys
I subbed when you put out your first Rob Chapman video. At the time you have been at around 10k subs, now we are getting close to 100k 😎
Nice guitar, it will be better when you set it up for you. Had a 78 ? Silverburst, but the post for the ABR 1 sunk into the body, so I got rid of it. Nowadays, I would have fixed it myself. One of many I wish I kept! Have a great day, gentlemen.
I have a 2008 faded V that I like a lot. I swapped some dimarzio humbuckers with the pickups it came with. The stock pickups sounded ok clean but when distorted there was no way to clean it up went you turned the volume down on a distorted amp. Plays great, I love the access to the top of the neck.
I own the same year V. My tone pot was replaced and I have 500T & 496R pickups. I love my V.
I bet that baby screams! 👍
Congrats on the Gibbo. I always think of Lenny Kravitz 'Are you gonna go my way' when I see one.
@InjectBleach-em9tghe does. Hope you have a better day now you've got that out of your system.
Had a guitar almost exactly like this and loved it!! I sold it like a dummy tho and it sits as my #2 biggest gear regret ever!
Nice find. Looks killer!!
Gabba gabba, we accept you, we accept you, one of us!
17:25 The bridge is supposed to flat on the top side, it's the saddles that follows that radius. It's what happens when you have the tailpiece decked so the strings rest on the bidge itself before going to the saddles, either top wrap or raise the tailpiece.
This.
The tailpiece is already top-wrapped.
@@casanovafunkenstein5090 it's an almost 30 year old guitar, started out not being top wrapped, has been like that for a LONG time. My 20 year old ESP still has a dead flat bridge because the tailpiece wasn't decked so the strings were resting on the bridge.
Welcome to the Flying V club! If that neck pickup was sunken in, it's probably the screw and/or spring that fell through when adjusting. It should be a Gibson 496R which sounds pretty good as a lead. This guitar originally came with a Gibson 500T for the bridge, I would try to track one down if you haven't tried it - one of the most overlooked metal pickups, tons of gain saturation and tight low end. I have EMG 81 and Duncan JB loaded guitars, but I still choose my V with the Gibson 500T for rhythm tracking whenever possible.
Gawd this is sooo thrilling....
me too with the v.... always loved them. i have 4 proper 90's guitars that i love, each made in japan, 90's was special era to me. my fav is my mim 93 strat with a german floyd rose. im sure it didnt ship that way. $100 in a pawn shop. 30hours later, its gold, complete with the poly flaked completely off the fretboard. i finished the job with a ss refret. cheers
scorpions rhythm player had a white/black one.
Nice. After my starter guitar, my first "real" guitar was a second hand '80s Gibson Flying V - dark red with a black pickguard. Got it when I was 16 and still have it and play it today (over 20 years later).
Got USA Greeny October 2023 after crapping on Gibson for 30 + years and I love it. It’s all good 🤘
My first electric guitar was a Flying V. But I got it in cherry. Almost 20 years later, and I still love that guitar as much as the day I bought it.
This is a guitar that's always stood out to me too, but me being 38 I was older when School of Rock came out, so I mostly remember Kirk Hammett using it and him being my idol as a young guitarist for years. Would still love to have one of these but doubt I ever will, even the reissues are so expensive lol. Maybe I can get a chance to play one some day.
I've never been a big Gibson player however someone I know is selling a 1980 goldtop les paul, leant it to me for a couple of weeks and I fell in love with it.
Thankfully he's put it aside for when I can afford to buy it off him
I remember buying an issue of guitar world when they still came with physical discs. There was a lesson from Kirk Hammet teaching master of puppets, and he was playing a flying v. I knew i needed one ever since. I brought a 99 wine red 67 reissue a few years back and i love it. It's definitely one if my bucket list guitars and I'll never part with it.
Kelan, My 95 model has/had a completely flat tune-o-matic, with different height string inserts to get the correct radius with the fretboard!
😂😂😂😂😂😂 The intro! Legends 🫡🤘🏻
Cool guitar!!!!
Super cool guitar! "Beat up" or not, it's going to be awesome when you are done with it! Let Glen play some Kiss riffs on it when it's done : )
Looking forward to the next video you knuckleheads! 😅
Nice guitar 😊
Why am I watching this? I couldn't care less 'some guy' on YT buys a guitar. Then again... love the intro. Priceless. Keep 'em coming!! 😅
I’d love to see a before and after sound demo before you mod it! I have the Super 3 in one of my guitars and I love it, but a) it’s in there as the guitar naturally had a bright sound and lacks mids and b) I do acknowledge it’s quite different than most high output pups on the market and does require me to adjust my amps a bit.
I had a '94. I miss that guitar.
I really love that V man, how does the neck feel?
necky
Nice purchase!
May I ask what fees do we have to count when coming from Japan: VAT, customs, ... ?
Dave Davies was playing the V back in the mid-sixties. I have the Dave Mustaine V and it's a great guitar. Hocky stick headstock and the nearest volume control is wired to the neck pickup, not the bridge - pretty handy.
what the... i also keep extra strings in an ammo box exactly like that. cool guitar by the way.
I own a lefty 2000’s Gibson V. It’s a fun guitar, but my one big gripe with it is if you have to fiddle with the Jack or Switch or any of the electronics, you have to remove all the strings because the bridge sits over the pickguard.
Don’t forget Jim Martin from Faith No More, always played a black Flying V on tour.
Some cut and polish and a buffer will deal with most of those scratches. Replace the rusty screws so you don’t end up stripping the heads and give your switches and pots a spray of electrical contact cleaner. You should be good to go.
So my second guitar, after learning to play on a crappy 90s Squire Strat, was a vintage 1970s AZTEC Flying V in Cherry Red I got from a pawn shop for $80 in like 95 or 96. (Aztec is a Japanese Brand sold in Germany in the 70s, where I am not, and it's basically a 'lawsuit' guitar)
pickup rings on a pickguard is the smallest change that improves the look alot, even on a batguard sg
If you're going to change the pick ups, id take a look at upgrading the wiring too, depending on what you want to go for, I doubt you're thinking of putting vintage voiced PAFs on it but Gibson does a thing called 50's wiring that changes how the tone and volume controls interact and gives you a treble bleed. New wiring can make an old set of pick ups sound new, just worth a think about anyway.
I have the 2018 heavy metal Gibson Flying V it's awesome.
"Someone's been in this V before. Many times even." 🤣🤣🤣🤣
In 2004 I stumbled upon a used 2002 Faded Flying V, with ebony board and crescent moon inlays. V’s had never been on my radar before, it just felt right. The best $450 I ever spent - it’s still my main guitar 20 years later.
The Trogly opening was amazing. Bravo.
Cut away from your hands, though, not toward them.
You can get the sticker glue off easily enough without damaging the finish, which will make it look better.
I wish you well KDH and Pegasus
There are so many previous mods done to that V that it doesn't matter what you do to it. Might as well just do whatever the hell you want and have fun with it
As an owner of a white V, I kind of like the idea of it becoming Banana Yellow. If that happens, maybe I'll get the pickguard swapped for a black one to go with it like a Telecaster or Les Paul Special TV Yellow.
Sir, you have excellent taste. 👍😃
I love Vs - just love 'em. They hang on you just right, and you have more direct access to the neck, as there is no upper horn in the way. I have three Vs - two "round horns" and a pointy V. None of them are a Gibson. I wouldn't mind having a Gibson V, but as long as people keep asking exorbitant amounts, they can keep 'em.
Nice intro lol
Love Vs, but I’m a ‘58 fan rather than the ‘67 style. I’ve two of the 90s Epiphone Korean ones and they’re great.
One of us
Trogly and Justin Hawkins both need to watch out...although you did forget to mention the 'first fret neck depth' on the V. This was a great video.
What pickups will you put in the guitar?
A Troglodytes ref & a Justin Hawkins piss by Glen 😅 and then to top it off a double in sync " bye bye " 😅😅 with baseball cap it getting so Wayne's Worldy. Fcukin love❤ it.
The Nashville bridge is supposed to be flat across the top. The saddles take care of the radius.
