There's so many generic fantasy or sci-fi dungeon crawlers these days that they are all starting to blend together. I think a game like this is going to need more than one unique mechanism to make it stand out from a very crowded niche within an already niche hobby.
well it's not one unique mechanism, it's an unique entire ethos... fast playing, fast to set up, have 3 or 4 different combat encounters where other games would have you jsut do one in the same time period, and characters so powerful they're effectively superheroes but crossed with a die hard long term attrition concept. it's really quite different than every other fantasy dungeon crawler out there :)
@@rahdo First of all, you probably well aware of that but I will say it anyway: you have a brilliant marketing skill. Secondly, this game MIGHT be unique in its length or its overall package/ark, but boy.. wow.. it really seems like there is nothing special about it at all, if any. You roll dice and have special powers or abilities to mitigate their results. Yes, it can be enjoyable, but special..? There's nothing special about it. I agree with the original comment. The fantasy theme market is too crowded and a game should REALLY bring something new to the table to REALLY shine.
i've played dozens of dungeon crawls over the years of all sizes. they all feature brave fantasy heroes fighting various fantasy monsters, using dice and cards in varying ways, but most of this genre really leans heavily into the rhythm typified by the descent series from fantasy flight games (or the old heroquest from ages ago) to me, this feels as new and different for the genre as gloomhaven did when it came out by keeping the same tropes but radically changing the feel of the experience, in ways that very few other games do. but ymmv :)
that sounds really good, but I guess that in the end it will rise and fall on the climatic moments which will create the overall experience.. I hope to try it some day.. The designer is very talented, no doubt.
