      Lincoln was known for having wrestling matches in the White House, Kirk didn't wanna take the chance and lose to him. Remember, Kirk doesn't believe in "No Win Scenarios", so much so he cheated in an unwinnable simulation.

      Completely ignores automatic doors

    • @seanabsher5577
      @seanabsher5577 3 роки тому

      To be honest, "taped" didn't mean it was played by tape. In the 1960s, the concept of a computer relying on data storage other than 1) punch cards, 2) paper punch tape , or 3) reel to reel tapes was bordering on unheard of or impossible to imagine. When the show aired, the plastic covered cartridges they called tapes that stored data operated more likely as if they were hard drives or something akin to sd cards... But as much as technology has advanced since the 1960s now, imagine 200-250 years further into the future. That said, "back then" the terminology of "taped music" or "taped audio" was most often slang for recorded music or recorded audio, which, even on a CD or mp3 or any other digital format, the audio had to be recorded for it to exist in digital form. Comparing that to live performance (as described from an 1800s perspective) is enough clarity for the story in the scene.

      Lincoln was a dab hand with a broadsword also. He was once challenged to a duel and as the aggrieved party, he chose broadsword. At the duel site (an island in the Mississippi between Iowa and Illinois), the two parties refused to reconcile...until Lincoln casually began chopping branches off a nearby tree with his long arms.
      The other guy who'd challenged him promptly called off the duel and reconciled their disagreement. :)

    This was a pretty awesome episode, gorn fight scene and all. Lincoln was always curious about all manner of invention. Anything that could improve the state of the union or end the war sooner was welcome. He was a very accessible President to the alarm of some concerned for his security. Each day if possible he entertained visitors. They came from far and wide, to see the great man, or to present their ideas, and he listened earnestly and defused tensions with his gentle humor or his back country analogies. He was open to ideas from every quarter, never pretending that he knew everything better, but using his best judgment and the best information he could gather to make decisions. A model leader, a great man.

      And just food for thought. When Abe Lincoln was assassinated by Boothe, he was a Democrat. The Confederate South breaking away was orchestrated by Democrats who always wanted slavery. Even the KKK was created by the Democrats. The GOP (Republicans) were actually formed to combat slavery. Even to this day the welfare system is designed to keep people enslaved/dependant upon the Government. Welfare is an invention of the Democrats. It's a shame few people know all the real facts.

      Lincoln was beaten by his dad as a child. Then his father would dress everyone up on Sunday morning for church. He grew up hating God. He carried a Bible as a young adult so he would be asked about it and he could start an argument. Eventually God used him in a mighty way. Abe Lincoln became a believer despite his childhood and he rose to the Presidency. A great man. He believed the Civil War was God’s judgment for the sin of slavery.

    This is a very good episode. The only problem with it is that, throughout, Kirk and his crew are acting on the assumption that the historical figures they are interacting with are mere illusions of some kind. Just here, Scotty says he originally locked on to something mineral but then, at the end, Kirk asks the alien what he offered their opponents had they won the contest and the alien responds, "What they wanted most, power." That means they were, somehow, real.

    • @CarpeVerpa
      @CarpeVerpa Рік тому +1

      My understanding is that these historical figures were in some way recreated or simulated as perfectly as the aliens could manage. Not quite the real article, but they'd readily believe themselves to be so, and would think and act very closely to the individuals they were based on.

      First of all, no it isn't. Secondly, how do you know I wasn't talking to him? I talk to him all the time. Thirdly, god isn't his name, it's his species. yahweh is his name. And most importantly (and I said this already) the commandment in question is a prohibition against breaking an oath made in the name of god. If you haven't sworn an oath then you can't be breaking one, can you?
      Open your bible once in a while before you make people hate us believers even more with your blasphemous ignorance of what it says

    • @KairuHakubi
      @KairuHakubi 10 років тому

      thunder bolt
      You get to heaven by believing Jesus died for you.
      It helps to look a few things up about ancient hebrew culture. A lot of the bible was written with things they already understood. The phrase "taking a name" means to swear an oath by someone. It doesn't mean 'saying a name'. Unfortunately over time the jews developed their own equally incorrect taboo about this commandment, and believed it meant to never say 'yahweh' at ALL. Even though we know for a fact Moses said it and various other people said it.. and it's right there in the bible to read aloud.
      But even so, 'god' isn't his name. it's a german word that germans were using long before they ever heard of the god of abraham isaac and jacob.
      And it isn't smart to edit your behavior "just in case" someone might think you're sinning. That's the way of pharisees and saducees, and it makes religion look terrible to everyone with any sense.

    • @KairuHakubi
      @KairuHakubi 10 років тому

      thunder bolt
      I didn't say 'know', I said 'believe'. The demons _know_ it happened. That's why god can't just prove stuff, then it's no longer faith, it's knowledge. A computer can know facts, only a human soul can hold beliefs.

    Actor Lee Bergie was Abe Lincoln, Robert Huron was Kales the Klingon, who also was Sam in Charlie X, and was also the birdlike creature in the first pilot episode The Cage. Also, in this episode, we all got a chance to meet Surik, actor Barry Atwater, who taught and established peacefulness and logic as well as dispencing of emotions on his planet Vulcan and is revered as being the greatest Vulcan alive. He also tried to deal with the remaining violent Vulcans who didn't accept logic as a key factor in saving the planet Vulcan from extinction, so, those violent Vulcans were sent by the Peservers, an alien race of beings who reseeded others in other parts of the galaxy whare they could form and become another society, this is whare the Romulans from the Romulus Remus section of the galaxy were from, and sprung from the Vulcan race as they were are at one time Vulcsns.
