    And if that weren't enough, here's another thing; I tested the double top Grand Acoustic DT30GACE using a Sound Meter app on my phone. Hoping you might be familiar with the E10D-TC dreadnought, I used that for my comparison. I played each guitar normally and then hit the strings hard like Pete Townshend. I have no clue what the margin of error is but here's what I got: E10D-TC = 71 dB Average and 85 dB Maximum. DT30GACE = 73 dB Average and 87 dB Maximum. So the double top rosewood grand auditorium appears to be louder than the thermal cured Adi top, mahogany dreadnought.

    I dont seem to find any on sale in the internet anymore...? And a question, how do you mend that kind of top if it gets hurt/broken?

    Sadly, Eastman has discontinued the double top line. I just got this reply from Eastman this morning, "Thank you for reaching out to EASTMAN!
    We have indeed discontinued the Double top series. The reason was that the material we used for the double tops had become too expensive in the Pandemic years." So if anyone spots one for sale, grab it quick.

      @@kidguzzi_chrisgalardi By happy coincidence, yesterday I pointed out to Eastman that, even though it isn't on their website, the double top web page still shows up when I do a Google search for the DT30-GACE. Today they wrote back and told me that they are still discontinued but they checked with CSR (not sure what that means) and there are some new ones still in stock in Europe.

      I just bought an OM used didn't even know what DT was until I researched it. I also wondered why they weren't easily found on Eastman's website anymore.

    And another thing... or two... Eastman also makes the Grand Auditorium in a Double Top. If you really want to show off the sustain, lift and keep your forearm off the top before making that last strum. Only problem is, then your video would be twice as long. I install John Pearce armrests on all my acoustics just for that reason, to lift my canned ham of a forearm off the soundboards so they can vibrate.

    Nice video guys! But one thing you failed to talk about is what will the double tops sound like after they break in. My E10D did sound all that good at first, loud but brittle. But after about 3 years wow! it's a keeper

    You've really upped your video production game from 3 years ago. These old videos look like they were filmed on an old VHS camcorder in comparison to the movie-like quality of your current videos.

    Hi once again guys. My Eastman DT30GACE (Double Top Grand Auditorium Cutaway Electric) arrived yesterday. The tone is phenomenal and exceptionally well balanced. There are less overtones than on my other rosewood Eastmans: E40OM, E8OM, E20D-TC. It took a few minutes to realize that is actually a good thing. I don't have the words to describe it but there is something in the resonance that is very compelling. It makes for cleaner tones with better separation. I mostly flat pick with a little strumming intermingled and some finger picking. They all sound great but I have never had a guitar that liked strumming as much. The cutaway is a big deal for me. There are high notes that need playing and just weren't getting enough love.
    Take a close look at the nut slots if you want to see some serious craftsmanship. The forward walls of the slot cradle the string then the walls flare out and bottom drops away from the string towards the back allowing the strings to angle towards the tuner posts and slide without binding during tuning. Speaking of tuners, my DT30GACE came with Gotoh SG-360-B07 sealed mini gold (Schaller M6 style) tuners with black knobs. Eastman's website photos show that to be the case but their specs call for Gotoh SX510 open back tuners like the ones on your DT30D and DT30OM guitars.

    I would love to try one of these double top Eastmans someday soon. I have close connections with a shop that stocks a lot of their stuff, so hopefully sooner rather than later. I love their OMs’. My wonderful and lovely wife surprised me on Christmas morning with And E6OM that truly defies the limits of what an orchestra body style can usually do. It’s loud and proud, and it was only made in 2019. Can’t wait to hear what the next few years have to offer! I will be reviewing it on my channel in a couple of weeks. The greatest Christmas gift ever!

    I think the double tops should fine. I have worked with honeycomb composites and epoxy for many years on boats and planes. I live in the dry south west with its 20 percent humidity all year long. I have to wonder if the Nomex core will make the top more durable? If it does then I think it makes good choice since it sounds just as good.

    I have a double top and standard top classical. They are not easy to compare because of the age and the bracing is different. Although most people say double tops are brighter, mine is actually warmer than a standard top. It’s not fair to compare volume because the standard top is 20 years older and thus has more volume. But the double top is a great guitar, much more balance, has lots of mids (even though it’s rosewood) and has a deeper richer bass than the standard top

    Hi guys, wanted to ask for bit of advice, my preferred playing style is light/medium strumming and bit of finger style, if you will need to chose from your own experience which model of Eastman will recommend DT 30 OM or E 20 OM TC? And thank you for good videos I do enjoy them 👍

    • @AcousticShoppe
      @AcousticShoppe  3 роки тому +1

      The big advantage to the DT-30 is sustain and openness, The E20 being rosewood makes for an ideal strumming guitar and the TC top adds a dryness and articulation that's hard to find anywhere else. unless you are really into loads of sustain, we tend to prefer the TC's.
      Don't hesitate to give us a call if you want to talk guitars, we have many on staff that would love to. 417-720-1223
