yess i only listened to that song a few weeks ago as ionly listened to a few from diamonds in the rough but it is so good and really cool because its the light to so far aways dark basically celebrating the life that james or the rev lived

Even without the other harmony part in the audio, I could still hear and know exactly what that harmony was playing. Listened to this song so much in high school the entire acoustic solo section is engrained in my memory.

This is the best song on the album. Bat country got played out like 2 months after it hit the radio in like ‘05-‘06
He's missing an entire stereo channel. Can't remember if it's left or right, but still. The majority of the beautiful guitar work in this is the harmonies, and the majority of the song, is in harmonies. I'm really hoping it was just a recording error, otherwise he's missing A LOT.

Synyster gates took hold off gypsy jazz while in school and a lot of his solos and riff writing uses a lot of those scales and chords. With this he is also no stranger with acoustic guitar just watch his masterclass.

Yea at the end of the song it's Synyster Gates (Brian Haner Jr.) and his dad Brian Haner Sr. with the dueling guitars. He is affectionately known as Papa Gates, super funny dude and an even more amazing guitar player. He's done a few specials with ventriloquist comedian Jeff Dunham.
A7x is the best band I've ever heard and I'm 61 and I have heard em all they have a song writing ability that is unheard of they write epic songs ain't one song by them that I don't like rock on A7x and RIP REV!!
The deep, heavy hitting guitar is the rhythm guitar. And Zacky V plays the rhythm, but there is also Johnny Christ on the bass which is even deeper then the guitar. And the more melodic, higher notes are Syn on Lead Guitar. I hope I helped Gibby!!!!

The 9:30 mark is synyster gates, there is a making of city of evil video where you watch him playing this section with an acoustic guitar it's a joy to play along to if you can keep up😅 taffy at at first but once you get the speed dialed in its really fun to play along to.
I don't think this song is a metaphor, I read Matt really wrote it from the point of view of a Sidewinder snake. Love your reactions by the way, been an A7X fan since 2003. Like when he says, "decisions made for me" The snake can't control that its going to bite, that's its natural reaction to prey. So this song really is from the point of view of a sidewinder snake.

For me, musically, it's a split between City of Evil and Nightmare, but CoE is a little too nasal, so I prefer Nightmare. Both genius albums though.
I find that this album is almost a concept album compared to the rest of a7x's albums. The rev put everything he had into this album
Nightmare was very much a concept album up until Jimmy's death. The original vision for the album was to follow the theme of the title track. Obviously after The Rev passed, the lyrics were altered to express what the band was going through at that time.

I’m a little late to the party; but when he opened with “the slither” that’s what makes this song so great. It’s literally a song personified about a snake; lyrically driven by snakes in the Bible; backed up by instrumentals that makes you feel like a snake catching its prey.

My favorite Avenged song. This is the song that got me turned on to them. One of my guitar students came to me and said I need to hear this band, and this is the song he told me I needed to listen to. Took me a week before I listened to another song on the album lol. City of Evil is just plain EPIC!

Just in case if you havent read the other wonderful comments below Synyster Gates is lead guitarist, Zacky V is rhythym guitarist, and Johnny Christ is bass guitar! In alot of their songs zacky plays some of the lead riffs that we think is Syn but in reality is zack's rhythym 😁

All the solo’s is synyster but on this one he plays whit his dad whitch also is an guitarist or was atleast, zacky plays rhytm but they play solo’s togheter (Zyn&Zacky) but other than that syn is the lead guitarist and Johnny’s the bassist and zacky’s the rhytm👌🏻💀🦇
