There are no classes in school that teach you how to flirt, and unfortunately what that means is that when you go out into the world to do it, sometimes some weird things can escape your mouth.
Which is why in this video, I will be giving you five things that you should NEVER say when flirting, as well as some things that you can say instead.

    ⏰TIMESTAMPS⏰
    0:16 - Phrase #1: “That person is…”
    1:19 - Phrase #2: “That’s amazing!”
2:41 - Phrase #3: “Do you want to go out sometime?”
    3:37 - Phrase #4: “Can I get your number?”
4:34 - Phrase #5: “You would look better if you…”

The trick is to control the context of the conversation so that the way you want people to perceive you is felt in the atmosphere alone.

Just stagger up to a couple, while they're holding hands... Blink each eye in turns a few times as if you're struggling to figure out which one works or not... Don't forget to wobble dangerously without falling right over... Then look up and down the person who matches your gender, and say, "Nice shoes, you wanna f***?"... PUKE all over the ground splattering as far and wide as possible and then fall (or dive) into the middle of it and pretend to go to sleep.
      Works every time. ;o)

    • @PT-dp1cs
      @PT-dp1cs 5 років тому +59

YES, I was looking for this comment. I feel like Charlie usually hits the nail on the head with his breakdowns words/actions, so I was very surprised about his explanation on this one.
The whole phrase gives off this feeling that the woman is somehow not living up to [your] expectations. You're kind of implying that she's *supposed* to be smiling, and that she's *supposed* to be trying to be prettier.
If she's already having a bad time, you're not making it any better by coming along and imposing these uninvited expectations on her. I could see *some* women reacting to this by feeling self-conscious, but only if they care a lot about what you think (e.g. if they already have a crush on you) or if they're just naturally prone to feeling self-conscious. The same way that if someone walked up to you and said, "you're kind of ugly, have you ever considered wearing a paper bag over your face?" -- sure, you might feel self-conscious, but more likely you'll direct your negative feelings outward toward the jerk who said that to you. Obviously this is different, but there's still the aspect of one person telling the other person that the way they look isn't adequate, and implying that they should be doing something about it. If you're some rando dude in a bar, her thoughts will probably be more along the lines of, "oh yeah, well who the f*** are you?"
Also, I'd like to point out that she may be having a perfectly good time already. In which case you asking her to smile will probably be MORE annoying, if anything. Some women just don't smile as much, whether for cultural reasons or just because of their own idiosyncrasies, and it doesn't have to mean they're unhappy. So your intended message of "I'm trying to cheer you up" can be more lost in this case and become even more of a "hey gurl you should be acting more pretty."
I am one of those women. Often I'll be sitting there, perfectly happy and enjoying myself, and people who don't know me very well will come up and ask me if I'm okay, or ask what's got me down. Which is totally fine -- I'll just tell them I'm fine and crack some joke about how that's just my resting sad face (except I guess it's not really a joke?). But when someone comes up and says, "you'd be prettier if you smiled", I just can't help but feel annoyed and even mildly disgusted. EVEN if I'm already acquainted with the guy (and it's always a guy who says that) and I know he means well, somehow it just feels super annoying and I just want to walk away from him. Wasn't sure how much of this was just me, which is why I appreciated the comment.

I think "you'd look better if" comes from the 'negging' mentality and the guy wants to be just a little bit intimidating because someone told him that this makes him more appealing, maybe he's also been told that women don't like dishonest compliments, but there are so many better ways to word them than "You'd look better without so much makeup" etc. Being told to smile just takes me right back to being a shy 6 year old again. I have seen guys who have been `friendzoned` go on a campaign to bash or discredit any guy she's into as not good enough in the vain hope that one day she'll see how wonderful they are and get themselves out of the friendzone. Not only is it cowardly and pathetic, but it *never* works. All it does is either leave the guy in a perpetual state of vain hope at best or more likely, ends up alienating the girl and in some cases ends in a good butt whooping.

It is just all-around bad. Instead, hopefully you can do something that would make them *want* to smile.

Funny makes people relaxed around you, especially when u can make fun of yourself, and I think something important about "being honest" is yes be honest, but show you can be honest respectfully, and sensitively if the info pertaining to the topic calls for it. It shows you have the capability to be compassionate and empathetic, but especially, RESPECTFUL. You can be honest without being an egomaniac and making it about yourself and the way you WANT to be honest rather than what's actually helpful to the person you're being honest too.

Of all of my infinite lack of expertise, I actually have something I'm weirdly good at in relation to this video. If you find yourself getting into a "That's Amazing!" loop, instead start asking questions that work to elaborate the story. I've found that this is so effective at keeping a conversation going I've accidentally gotten into conversations with people at drive throughs just off of a passing compliment.
Ironically, I had to perpetuate the "That's amazing!" trope just to get the hell out of there...

Rather than needy, I find people who say that's amazing to everything I say to be disingenuous. I feel that they're not really listening and are just faking enthusiasm because they want to get into my pants.

Sir, I throughly enjoy your content and believe that you have put a good deal of effort into your videos. My one piece of advice would be to put more attention to the way you use eye contact paired with gesticulation, as that can seem somewhat forced for most people. Keep up the good work.

Just sayin, I have actually had a couple of positive interactions based loosely around the smile comment at the end.
I would never use the "you'd look cuter/better" part because that's just ignorant and insensitive, but while running a drive-thru I have told women who came with an unhappy/cold/standoffish look about them that "you have to smile to get your order though," and the few and only times I've done this they've always cracked a big genuine grin, as if they were just _trying_ not to smile when they reached my window.
It's really all about your execution and choice of words. If I had said something like "hey I bet you're prettier when you smile" these interactions would almost certainly have been negative. Instead, I presented it in a way that is both slightly funny and more focused solely on trying to cheer them up, rather than pointing out a flaw and making them self-conscious.
Also, not for nothing, it was probably also just lucky that the times I did this, they were willing to have their mood changed, or simply weren't actually in as bad a mood as they appeared. If I were to go around doing this frequently to every random stranger whom wasn't visibly happy, I would surely encounter some that were genuinely very upset and wouldn't respond positively.

about #5: in the 1st year i was with my gf, she asked me "what do you think would look better about my body if it were different?"
So i thought long and hard to come up with something i cared absolutely nothing about.
However she did cry a lot after hearing i didn't like the way her labia stuck out of her outer lips. Despite talking about it and working it out, even used it as one of her arguments why we shouldnt be together anymore 5 years later. People really do keep their emotional associations once they're set, guys!

That’s honestly hilarious dude. Sorry to laugh at your ineptitude but I have been just as inapt before. That was a trap. I’m sure she didn’t mean for it to be a trap but the situation she just always turn into traps. Really bothers me to think this, but I’ve had a lot of instances where true honesty from both parties ended up hurting me because the woman hold it over my head later. It’s sad but you cannot be totally open with a woman you care about.

@@docd2295 its ok to laugh. I put the story on display. About her holding things over your head: a high quality woman wouldn't do that. Maybe she doesn't realize she's making a power play. Find someone who respects your honesty. If she makes a bad move, maybe she can learn to be better

    • @docd2295
      @docd2295 2 роки тому

@@mortophobegaming6454 oh she definitely didn’t mean to I don’t think. But it happens. A good woman will try to meet you halfway and sort of “I’ll be honest with you and you be honest with me” and it sounds great….but they just are way more sensitive and never forget.
My latest situation was I had JUST started dating a girl and then she had this bachelorette weekend this time go to and she asked me about what the boundaries should be. I didn’t feel like taking on the boundaries of a relationship yet so I gave her a hall pass to have fun and then we can have this conversation later when she gets back. Well basically, I started to get in my own head about what she was doing snd so I went and hung out a girl I knew and made out with her, sort of to protect my own dignity. Later on I felt bad about it because my gf had done nothing with any guys on her trip so I told her about kissing that girl. She understand it wasn’t outside the rules and respected I told her. But a few weeks later when she broke up with me for other reasons, she brought that up I had kissed that other girl. She hadn’t let it go. All the bad things you do add up in women’s minds.

I think the key to problems with dating is that you treat it like dating and not like a regular conversation. People can hang out and act normally. It reveals who people are and provides transparency. Dating should not be a challenge. Add more to refine what I said or fix it.

I think a good idea for videos would be a Q and A every once in a while or maybe even on a consistent basis. I’d recommend highlighting a certain part of the video you think is most interesting in the title but with other things that people can listen to in the video. This would allow interaction with your audience and I’m sure we’d love to give you ideas on what to talk about through our wide network of people with unique situations. This would also birth new ideas and ares you could expand on (possibly even in another video)
    Hope you see this,
    James :)

2nd is so true. I met a guy who was so cute and had an awesome personality but man, he thought everything about me was “perfect and amazing” like all the time, I could do no wrong. It was very exhausting, it felt un-genuine and it turned me off.
