As a girl who was on both ends of "the friend zone", this is 100% the best approach... Having a crush is not shameful, and coming out like this always got me closer to the other person, either in a romantic or platonic way.
If someone has reacted poorly to you, then frankly they are a toxic person you don't need in your life.
Almost everything you said about guys insecurities lines up with me. Even the things like fantasising and all, and I think your advice is very handy. I pretty much know the girl doesn’t have feelings for me but I can’t get over her.

The thing with friendzone is that there's this small slimmer of hope that your crush might look your way.
If a woman can tell that you're afraid of rejection, she will reject you regardless. You need to show her that you're fearless and have confidence. That won't guarantee you won't get rejected but if she does reject you, don't get butt hurt, upset, or go sour on her. Act positive, upbeat and come up with a joke. For example: she tells you she already has a boyfriend. You tell her: "That's ok, he can keep you busy when you're not with me." Or just tell her, "Ok, call or text me if you change your mind." After that, do not pursue or chase after her. Believe me and trust me, this works more often than not. Handling rejection well is important and is an attractive trait. I've been rejected and had women changing their mind and chasing me within a few weeks after being rejected. This happened several times in the past.

The thing is that I've been rejected already, but is good to watch this video I remember the freedom you feel after the pain. Rejection is freedom, you don't have to worry about that girl/guy. Just sharing - I had a huge crush on a girl in my late teens. It was horrible as I just couldn't work up the courage to tell her how I felt - I didn't want to risk our friendship. Eventually I managed to work up the courage and told her how I felt - she rejected me, but she was so amazing about it that we are still friends today. She became my wingman on nights out, talked me up to people she knew, and I've now been married to a friend of hers for almost 10 years. And even though my former crush and I only see each other a few times each year and we are now married to different people, there is no weirdness in our relationship - we each wish each other every happiness. So don't be scared - just tell your crush how you feel - I'm not saying it's easy, but it's way better than pretending that you're happy with the way things are, when you're not happy with the way things are at all 🙂

But we are both currently single, really close and we never closed the door to the idea of trying things out in the future so what I want to happen in DR is to open up a dialogue and talk about it. Either try things out and see what happens, or close the door and move on. Stay friends. All I know is that regardless of what happens, we’ve been through worse things. We can have this conversation without it being weird and get past this. But I can’t fully move on until that door is shut. I want to wait until then though. It’s a month away.

I know it may sound weird but probably because you feel like that somehow it keeps happening in your reality.
First of all what that girl wanted , has nothing to do with what ALL woman want in the world.
She had her own " taste" which could be simply horrible taste.
Sometimes people if they have childhood issues, they like people who are for example quite abusive.
And being abusive isnt the coolest thing right?
Happy people wouldnt feel atracted to that.
Second, you told yourself that phrase she told you, which was just the perception of ONE person, and because you said it to yourself then it became so powerfull.
Believe me, start seeing yourself diferently. Takr some time to be single and to be working on you, just feeling how cool you are.
It happened to me that I felt I was always " the nice good girl" and that guys would love the more.. Bold ones, or "bad" and see me as somebody they would just....choose in the future in case they wanna setle , like... Not passionated love but more like... Looking for somebody to be a mother.
I worked on some stuf inside of me, and started to see myself diferently, and just kimd of brainwash myself telling myself I was also the girl you can feel passion for.
And right after it , it happened and two guys saw me like that all of a suden.
Also learn to be more authentic. Sometimes when you are very nice, it can be seen as you being a people pleaser.
And this signals insicurity. A woman may deep down not feel " save" if she feels the guy is too insicure emotionally.
That is why sadly " bad guys" get morr girls usually because it coms across as confidence or as sthrenght even if sometimes is not what they actually have inside.
So I am not saying become bad, but learn to priorize yourself in some ocasions to say no, and to not be so polite always, and it may work.
Know that you will be chosen and somebody will feel passion for you. You just need to really believe it and know its coming. Otherwise you may simply just keep blocking it.

This video was really helpful to me, and the only thing I learned is that I already made good moves in my current situation. Confessed to my best-friend-crush that I had feelings, didn't ask her out but simply made it known how I felt and also made it clear that whether or not she felt the same, nothing would change in us being friends. She said she didn't feel the same at the moment, but that didn't mean it could never happen, and we've continued being friends and it's great! She also made a point to say that she was impressed with my honesty and bravery to open up like I did, and that really did pipe up my confidence and self-esteem.
I gotta say though, the best part of all this is I feel *way* more comfortable in being more openly flirtatious with her, and really more comfortable in general, because there's nothing to hide anymore, and I don't have to worry that things might become like awkward because she already knows how I feel and we're still as close as ever. And even better, she seems pretty receptive to my flirtation.
Even if things don't develop further between the two of us, having this experience turn out so positively has been a huge boon to my confidence, and a learning experience in how to take a shot without fearing the outcome too much. All the stress and worry is gone and I can freely move forward however I choose.

Before anybody tries to get out of the friend zone, they need to go hang out with other women to get out of their own fantasy they've created for themselves. Once you are talking to a couple women, then go back to the "friend zoned" one and talk to her the same way. If it fails, you have two backup plans and no heavy heart.
