I like Stace's viewpoint... I say people should do what they wanna do, but when it becomes a tool to get in somebody's face or make a confrontational statement, I get bugged. Not just for guns, either.
Yeah, those types will always exist though. When their jacked up trucks and rolling coal don't cut it anymore they have to prove how long their zong shen's are by hanging out at starbucks with an AR15. Tools will be tools I guess.
This is a jaw dropping topic in my part of the world (Denmark) With a population of around 5mill, we don't need or are allowed to carry anything. So watching from the other side of the Atlantic seems like we live in a hobbit world full of love. 😀
Hahahaha! Yes, I know things are very different in Europe. While the media makes guns a hot button topic there really isn't much every day talk about it. It's just a normal thing here. You have your gun guys and your anti gun guys. How is it handled in Denmark? Can you shoot for sport? Can you own a gun in your home for protection? Are there remote areas where you would need one for Bears or other crazy creatures?
ColoradoDualSport Most if not all (unless you're in a gang) are con guns. Unless you have a permit, you're not allowed to carry or own a weapon. And with a permit you're only allowed at shooting range or hunting. So it's quite different here in the hobbit world.
Yeah, Mrs.Stacey stole the show this week! I like it when she talks and I can shut up in videos. Normally she's quiet while the cameras roll then doesn't stop talking while they are off. Women LOL!
I'm with the Mrs. on the issue. In GA we can do either but for the situations that I find myself in most of the time an open carry set-up would make me the first target. That being said, there are plenty of open carry folks around here and we all get along just fine.
I like Concealed better, because i don't want the criminals to know if i have a gun on me, and what spot i carry. But i think we should be able to carry in whatever way we want.
Concealed in town and open in the woods. I tend to carry owb under a jacket in the winter and iwb when its warm. My opinion is if you're going to open carry in public it's best to have a holster with a thumbreak or similar device. A guy here in Oregon was open carrying his brand new gun and some guy walked up and took it from him. Likely a newb, but it would have been harder to disarm him with retention of some type.
Man what a beautiful area you guys are riding and a great topic. hehehe, you crack me up my friend, I love it, I am glad it is not just me who looses his train of thought from time to time. I so agree with Miss Stacy, a lot of them do it for attention and do it with more of a brandish statement as opposed to a way of life. Thanks for sharing and I hope you both have a blessed week. PS, keep up the awesome videos my friends.
Good thing is that you can keep your old one until it runs out as long as they reciprocate. I think you just need to change your address. Double check me, but I think that's how it works.
It should be mandatory for every responsible person to carry. Open or concealed should be a matter of preference of the individual. Crime rate would be very small in that world. Hey , What do you expect the Snow pack in the 8-8500 k range out there about mid April in the Uncompahgre area to be?
This is all from a canuck so take it for what it's worth....I ride dual sport with a shot gun strapped to it (I hunt small game while riding and camping to have for dinner) so of course it is out there in the open and when I have to go in to stores I have to take it with me or break it down and take parts. It's surprising in smaller communities how many people get it and are more interested about how I strap it to my bike haha. I also have been followed several times by police and never stopped. The only time I have been stopped by LE was a game warden and they flagged me over way before they saw the gun (also they just wanted to talk about my set up the entire time). So what I'm getting at is open is nice in that sense as a LEO that when I'm dealing with someome everything is out there in the open and there's no surprises but I also agree with you in that if I'm walking around a city I would want to conceal for the same reasons you listed.
Being a Canadian, you would obviously deal with a VERY drastically different approach to firearms than your American counterparts. Concealed carry is illegal up north. Use of firearms for defensive use against people is highly frowned upon. Down here, in come jurisdictions, the cops will actually high five you and congratulate you if you should shoot a armed robber or home invader.
What made you chose the XDS over the M&P C or Shield? I couldn't get over the grips on the XDS line, they felt to "plasticy" to me. While I realize that is exactly what the M&P grips are made of it was a textile thing I couldn't get past.
I'm a Springfield fan and have had several full size XD's over the years. the main reason though was I wanted 45acp and no other comparable guns offered it in that size package. I put a pachmayer grip sleeve on it and now it's 🍒. this is Brad Manning by the way :)
Nice ride by the looks, but as for the topic, I am in my mid fifties, have travelled all over Australia and quite a bit internationally and have never carried a gun or needed one. Sorry I know this emotive for a lot of Americans, where I have a lot of friends and think its a great country, but I just don't get the gun thing. Love the bike stuff.
I wasn't into guns growing up. My parents were not, my neighbors were not, just didn't know anything about them to be honest. THEN I became a cop. I saw the worst that society has to offer. Day in day out, senseless violence and victimization. Its REALLY sad when a nice family man is killed in front of his kids and wife in a robbery because he didn't have a weapon to defend himself. Or the woman who was brutally gang raped in a home invasion for DAYS, because she depended on the police for help, instead of depending on her 9MM. The fact is, violent crime can happen any day, at any place, at any time - no where is immune from violent crime. Many folks would just be content to just say I live in safe neighborhood - no one has been raped or killed here in like 50 years. And I could point you to HUNDREDS of cases of "it never happened here" or "it was always a safe community". Fact is, Columbine was a really safe school, until it wasn't. The Aurora theater was a really safe movie theater, until it wasn't. The Orlando Pulse nightclub was a safe place to be, until it wasn't. The Bataclan theater in Paris was a nice safe place, until it wasn't. A firearm is nothing more than a tool used to solve a very specific problem. Just like a fire extinguisher solves a fire problem. And a seat belt solves a crash problem. You never need a fire extinguisher, until you do. You never need a seat belt, until you do. And you almost never need a firearm, until you do. You dont have to "get" the firearms thing in America. There is nothing to get. We have guns. Lots of them. We are guaranteed arms in our founding documents, for a multitude of still valid reasons to this day. So if there are so many guns, in the hands of good people, and also unfortunately in the hands of bad people, wouldn't you prefer to have your own gun, if you lived here in our environment? People all over the net comment on stuff they really have no experience with. I lived, breathed, ate, and slept violent crime for a number of years. I have actual, real world experience in an American city police department. Take it for its worth, but I wont even step foot out of my house unless I have a gun strapped to my hip. I have seen way too many good and decent folks become victims, when they didn't have to be.
Concealed. On the topic of Stacey's sis in Walmart: If I see someone who's imprinting (can see firearm but they clearly mean to conceal), I'll let them know. It's not to suggest that they shouldn't carry but to let them know that it's not a secret. It doesn't bother me at all, as I'm about as likely to have one, but I'd want to know if mine were "out".
Chad LaFarge I had to give a heads up to a parent picking up their kid at my daughter's school because his shirt had snagged on his CC holster when he got out of his vehicle. That's pretty much the only reason I'd say anything to someone.
Exactly! I would quietly say hey, fix your shirt and give them a wink. I have no idea why people have to make such a big deal out of it. It's not like she's planning a robbery while she's picking out Orange Juice with her kids in the cart.
Concealed unless your out in the bush. or on the farm no reason to flash it, and as you say id happily lie down on the ground and pick a good time to strike
I carry concealed almost all the time. I will open carry on the 2nd of every month in support of Every 2nd Matters to help with awareness to the public. To let people know that that there are people carrying, concealed or not, to hopefully get them used to the idea of good law abiding citizens do carry. To protect ourselves and our families. Get them used to seeing it and to stop freaking out.
Man, I paid good money for my concealed carry permit, I'm using it. But I do agree, as someone who works in Boulder, sometimes you need to piss off the hippies. Also, yes, I totally open carry when hiking and camping. Mountain lions are way faster than most city threats.
I feel open carry is a good deterrent for most situations. Except for active shooters, most criminals will think twice before jumping into a situation where there is a significant display of force. They want an easy target... not someone that will fight back. Nothing against concealed carry... just think there are good arguments for both.
I agree but don't you think it would make you a target unwittingly? I would take out the guy with the visible gun first then move on to the easy targets if I put myself in the bad guy roll.
ColoradoDualSport I think, to a point, you are putting yourself in the "movie" bad guy role. 99% of criminals are looking for an easy score with as few serious repercussions as possible. That's why armored car security guards open carry... I've watched those guards carry bags full of cash out of banks and other businesses a hundred times and the side of my brain that craves a rat race ripcord to escape the soul crushing monotony of my job whispers that this could be the ticket. However, the sane part of me sees the gun and recognizes that the price of failure could be death, incarceration, ruining my wife's life, and losing all that I love. Most people have enough to lose that they aren't going to risk throwing it all away if the risks are high enough. The plainly visible gun ups the ante and most people don't want dealt a hand in that game. Sure. You have people with nothing to lose...the junky or some gang thug... but the junky prob pawned anything more dangerous than a kitchen knife to feed his habit before he gets desperate enough to kill. In the event that I'm in gangland, I'd prob carry concealed but I'd also be hyper-vigilant in that type of high risk environment. I don't normally carry and have never found myself in a situation where I needed a gun after 45 years. Of course, I'm a big guy and people generally leave me alone. I can see benefits to ccw, open carry, and not carrying at all. Can open carry make you a target? Absolutely. Can it also make that bad guy who is thinking about robbing you or a business reconsider because he isn't prepared to have a gunfight? Yep.
Very well said sir. I appreciate you taking the time. I really wish more folks were able to have open discussions like this instead of jumping to the end game.
When i go in a store, the store workers or owner yells at me about having a gun. But if its in my pocket, they don't know, but i still have the gun on me.
We have both in our state and my wife and I have a conceal permit. I think conceal is better in the fact it doesn't cause fear in others. Last thing I ever wanna do is scare a person in the grocery store. Yes I have the right to carry a weapon but doesn't others have the right to go buy a gallon of milk without being scared. I agree with Mrs. Stacey before the video ever started, I am scared of her. Stay safe
I conceal carry, for the surprise affect and not to cause a scene. However I think when I ride trail in CO I'm going with the shoulder holster over my MX armor if it makes somebody think twice job well done, the bonus is pissing off the snowflakes!!
I'm definitely a fan of concealed. Never let them see your defense. Also, open carry just tells me you are trying way too hard. "Look at me! I have a gun! Yeah!"
Completely agree. However, if they aren't being a douche I do like the "accessory" aspect of some of those nice Kimber's etc. They are just pretty pieces.
Sure, I mean if you are open carrying a Baer Custom Stainless 1911 because you want to show it off that's a different thing... but then again it's still "Look at me!" lol.
I feel like trying to concealed carry a rifle is the obvious sinister option here. But sometimes I just want to open carry my rifle in the upstairs area of a clock tower, and you guys need to ease up off me.
Look, I am all about whipping out a double barrel shotgun from your pants like it's an unholy large donger. I just wish we had more opportunities where that maneuver would come in handy. I don't have nearly enough encounters with bands of raiders.
I was thinking about bringing one of my OWB holsters for while I'm at camp on the AT. The IWB is nice for riding because it keeps everything secure and away from dust and mud, but when I'm relaxing at the fire it might be more comfortable to have the OWB. However, that also means one more thing to pack. hmmm.
The problem starts with people that "have something to prove" all the time. Mind your own business and do your own thing and this world would be a better place.
Though I'm in favor of any type of carry, open carry just invites too many problems and open carry of a rifle around town is just ridiculous and causes more anti-gun hysteria than it helps the cause. I'd open carry in the field, on a hike etc simply because the holster options are a lot more comfortable to slug a gun around while under physical effort. It's super annoying to have a gun flapping around with each step and open rigs tend to hold them still better. Open cons: 1) People act weird in response to seeing a gun, invites entirely too much interaction with weirdos 2) You are a target, anyone truly bad news will identify you as the first to go rather than fear you. 3) These days, if you didn't take action in an event, I wouldn't be surprised if you got sued Concealed pros: 1) Nobody knows, your choice if they ever find out. You control your destiny. To your question about "Do you fear the cops?", simple answer is yessir. I absolutely do not trust being at the will of someone else who is armed, when I am not. There is no man on earth I would passively entrust with my own safety or life. That is my job to do and prohibition on carry makes all of the complying public a victim class as a result. In the Northeast/Mid-Atlantic where it's very rare for people to be armed, the police are extremely hostile and disrespectful, and I firmly believe this is because they know they have the upper hand. Level the playing field and people will talk to each others like equals.
Also of note, while I don't cary a rifle with me all over the place, I'm not opposed to it. I honestly think that one of the problems in society is that people just don't see guns anymore unless it's on the news in some negative light. I'd really like firearms to be seen as common objects in society and not things to be feared and demonized
But, have any of us rreally needed a gun. I have always owned guns but only carry for hunting or target shooting. I have worked and travelled in tough places all my life and never felt the need for a gun. I have served in combat and I can tell you that killing is terrible and the hurt never goes away. I want no more gun combat and I discourage anyone who thinks they do.
Have any of us really needed a gun? If you were a Jew in 1940 Germany, you sure would need a gun when the gestapo came to round you up. Did the folks in the Aurora theater need a gun? Did the folks in the Orlando Pulse night club need a gun? I have never needed my seat belt, but I wear it every day just in case I crash. I have never needed the fire extinguisher in my kitchen, but I'm glad its here, just in case. And I carry a gun everyday just in case. You cant just say, "have any of us really needed a gun", because there are millions of folks throught history that "really needed a gun" and perhaps 10's of thousands of people every year in America that "really needed a gun. Just because you have never needed a gun in your life, is fine and dandy, but other folks live in different areas and face different threats than you do. Gary said - "I have served in combat and I can tell you that killing is terrible and the hurt never goes away. I want no more gun combat and I discourage anyone who thinks they do. No one in their right mind wants to kill someone. But faced with a choice of my wife and daughters getting raped, doused in gasoline, and burned to death as I'm tied up in the basement(Dr. Petit CT murders), I'll kill every last one of those motherfuckers with extreme prejudice. And the counter argument that "I live in a safe community" and "nothing like that has ever happened here" falls flat on its face. Because that is EXACTLY what every person says when it happens to them. They said the same thing after Columbine. They said the same thing after Sandyhook. They said the same thing after the Orlando night club shooting. Your historical safety has no bearing whatsoever on your future safety.
I like both but if you are going to open carry a rifle... SLING IT ON YOUR BACK!!! A rifle slung in front is the equivalent of having an unholstered pistol. If the situation calls for it, then by all means... skin that smoke wagon. But if not keep it holstered or slung.
If the greatest thing in my life happened and we got to carry in Canada, I would open carry everywhere just to be a dick. But concealed carry is more practical.
Many times the "open carry folks" get their weapons taken away from them and / or used against them. I must admit, carrying my Tevor slung over the shoulder while riding my KLR looks pretty bad ass LOL. and yes we have set up target to shoot while riding past them. (you really suck, shooting that way but it is a fun drill to practice)
I think that concealed carry is the way to go. However I think it is a sad state of things that when someone does open carry it causes such a fuss. Why don't more Americans understand everyone's rights? No one should call the police for something lawful. Perhaps the people who are trying to make a statement have a point. If more people did open carry more people might get it.
Off duty; conceal. And unless you are educated in use of force, close distance combat, weapon retention (just to mention a few things) and have received extensive training, and is prepared and aware at all times.. My advice is to not carry at all. There are plenty of examples of poorly trained individuals carrying open or concealed that have only provided ammunition and weapons to their agressors.
well we can not carry a pistol anywhere unless on duty, almost without exception, but I can transport my pistol locked anywhere I want concealed or not if headed to a legitimate use for it.... ie range for 99% of people. I can carry mine unlocked while on my mine claim ONLY not to or from. Lol. BUT I can wear a sword, carry a dagger or whatever anywhere I want without a permit. Lol. weird laws and differences.
It's strange for me to listen to these conversations. I am from Australia. We do not have a gun culture here. "I need to protect myself" is something we don't think of. Guns, a martial arts black belt, being a good boxer etc, not really necessary. I just wonder how often you have been in a situation where you needed it?
Interesting, because I've had a few conversations with Aussies that wish they could shoot and carry. I'm sure it varies by area just as it does here. To answer your question, I've never been in that situation thank god, but if I am I'll have it.
I have been watching your videos over the years. I enjoy them. However the language and juvenile sexual innuendoes have gotten much worse over time. Sadly, I think you are hurting your viewership. I think I will stick to the Everide chan chan because he really try's to keep it clean. Maybe you will clean it up eventually. I will keep checking back. Grow up CDS.
I agree on both sides as long as the person is a good human being
I like Stace's viewpoint... I say people should do what they wanna do, but when it becomes a tool to get in somebody's face or make a confrontational statement, I get bugged. Not just for guns, either.

Damn, it looks so fun out there. Agreed on being able to do either as options. I'd love to carry while riding around California.
That is a great area for exploring. Yeah, Cali just isn't on the same planet as most of the country with these things.
All good points.

Ha! It's so true that 99% of the time an armed society is a polite society isn't it?
True that my brotha! True that
I like Concealed better, because i don't want the criminals to know if i have a gun on me, and what spot i carry.
But i think we should be able to carry in whatever way we want.
I agree 100% brother. Thanks
Jojo Crazy Cat totally agree myself
Side note John Wayne the Duke filmed True Grit on this road.
Dude! I just watched the video you posted and shared it in the DSMV group. That is awesome! Thanks for posting it.

Jeez, how could you let that happen? Yeah I agree about retention. I like the retention system on the N82 we use.
Love that intro! Cheers WADZ
I agree with you all. I have to get my CO Conceal Carry. Sucks you can't transfer them like you do drivers licenses.
Good thing is that you can keep your old one until it runs out as long as they reciprocate. I think you just need to change your address. Double check me, but I think that's how it works.
ColoradoDualSport you got my hopes up, but I just checked and KY says as soon as you move out of state your ccdw permit is void. :(
It should be mandatory for every responsible person to carry. Open or concealed should be a matter of preference of the individual. Crime rate would be very small in that world.
Hey , What do you expect the Snow pack in the 8-8500 k range out there about mid April in the Uncompahgre area to be?
I dunno about mandatory, but I could get behind a mandatory safety class in schools.
I have no idea what it's like up there man. Sorry

What communication system are you using? Very clear.
We use the Sena 20S. However, the audio you hear is recorded on the camera which has it's own mic, not the Sena.
i might start open carrying while riding just because I want a bigger/more round count gun than my xds out in the sticks
What made you chose the XDS over the M&P C or Shield? I couldn't get over the grips on the XDS line, they felt to "plasticy" to me. While I realize that is exactly what the M&P grips are made of it was a textile thing I couldn't get past.

Yep.
+1 sociopath
Very well said sir. I appreciate you taking the time. I really wish more folks were able to have open discussions like this instead of jumping to the end game.
When i go in a store, the store workers or owner yells at me about having a gun.
But if its in my pocket, they don't know, but i still have the gun on me.
Exactly. I don't care about their signs. They will thank me if I save their life.
Stay safe
High beams. 😂😂
Haha! She cracks me up.
Just don't let +Hermit DaVlog carry a gun until he knows which way to point it. He already shot himself with the pumper carb.
LMAO! I have not let him forget that.
When I'm in the woods I open carry .I want people to think twice about messing with me.I also have a big knife strapped to my bike.
I could not agree more. Like I said in the video, people need a strong dose of mind your own.
Open cons:
1) People act weird in response to seeing a gun, invites entirely too much interaction with weirdos
2) You are a target, anyone truly bad news will identify you as the first to go rather than fear you.
3) These days, if you didn't take action in an event, I wouldn't be surprised if you got sued
Concealed pros:
1) Nobody knows, your choice if they ever find out.
Gary, I agree with you on every thing. But things can go wrong very quickly .A gun is a insurance policy that hopefully wont get used.
Concealed for me; don't want to advertise or ask for trouble.
If the greatest thing in my life happened and we got to carry in Canada, I would open carry everywhere just to be a dick. But concealed carry is more practical.
Well I understand though I don't agree lol.
Yeah, those guys do nothing good for the cause. Haha, we have talked about doing that for a long time.
Mag... BINGO!
Interesting, because I've had a few conversations with Aussies that wish they could shoot and carry. I'm sure it varies by area just as it does here. To answer your question, I've never been in that situation thank god, but if I am I'll have it.
More common sense and less douchebaggery on all sides would be good.
