It was more popular to do a while ago when it was huge (particularly in japan) and was then followed by a swathe of very generic moe shows that really missed the point of why K-On is good. Along with Haruhi Suzumiya which was a big international hit and Lucky star, K-On (which was MASSIVE in the domestic Japanese market) helped kick start the glut of brainless shows that rely almost entirely on being moe and cute for their appeal, despite not actually being part of that group. However, since people are idiots, a lot of elitists who think that they have taste would decide they could judge it without even bothering to watch it. Almost everyone who derides K-On as moe trash has seen at most like 3 episodes and already had that preconception in their mind. As a result, it did get a lot of flak for being mindless moe garbage. However, as time has gone on there are fewer and fewer people who haven't either seen it or seen serious critique on it and thus fewer people who are willing to deride it as moe trash based on preconceptions.
The idea of criticizing a story because of the fanbase, I've found to be the absolute stupidest. Because at that point, you're not judging the product, your judging the consumers.
+Buck Wade Exactly, sometimes I wished people could let others enjoy what they like without insulting or making them feel bad for liking it. I've been through that in High School, constantly being insulted and shamed upon for the stuff I like. And I honestly don't care. It's all opinions at the end of the day, and we shouldn't take them too seriously.
+Matthew Cool I love people who are passionate about things they like, but Jesus, whether you like an anime or not isn't gonna change someone else's lifestyle. I find it ironic how many people hate certain anime because they dislike the fanbase, but then say that a certain anime is "edgy", despite, from my view, not being any "edgy"er themselves.

"...I don't think we can really blame a series for inspiring copycats that didn't understand or didn't care what the original show was going for and were only released to pander and exploit it’s most basic elements." Thank you for addressing this.
+CyanideBlizzard Well, there are moe shows that are actually pretty good. It just depends on what you're looking for. Look, I'm not exactly the _biggest_ fan of the moe/lolicon genre, but there were some that I really liked. But, then again, I just happen to be more open-minded and not so picky towards different anime, with little to no judgement or prejudice towards them. Unlike DX or Draconis, no offense to those fine gentlemen.
+Matthew Cool haha, well that's part of the joke. So far, I've had them on and had them cover shows that fall under that "moe" labeled umbrella. So, since DX watched this and enjoyed it I'm using it as an excuse to bring him on whenever I plan on covering other shows like it as a joke. While DX and Draconis might not be fans, they definitely are down with other people enjoying the shows. I'm all about people liking what they want and enjoying what they want, since nobody can change how they feel about something but themselves.
I LOVE this show and I'm happy you enjoyed it. I also enjoyed hearing your structured points. I hope you do more videos like this. (Edited becasue I'm dumb)
This kind of mindset is a real problem in the anime fandom. If it's not a 9-10/10 it means they didn't like it. If its a 7/10 they kind of like it and any lower is just an absolute dislike even if they say, from their own mouths, that they liked it, even kind of. This is a dumb way of thinking and you need to let it go.
For me personally I'd give the first season a 9 and the second season a 10 upon re-watching both. The first time through I liked the first season and I probably would've given it a 7-8, because some of the problems people have with it just because it's a moe show never bothered me. It never felt like it was pandering unless it was trying to be funny or parodic, which for me nearly 100% of the time it pulls off. Season 2 however is much stronger in nearly every fathomable way possible, especially in the character development and interaction as well as comedy and direction, and skyrocketed the show to be one of my absolute favorites the first time I saw it. Going back and re-watching the first season, I liked it a lot more, hence now giving it closer to a 9. Watching Season 1 knowing where the story was going to go and where the characters end up really shows how much thought and effort went into a lot of the little moments that develop them in the first season. Plus I'm already like in love with these characters after Season 2 because of just how far they've come and how much the show has developed that nearly any important moment or emotional scene is scaled up tenfold re-watching them, because I know how close all these characters will become and how much they'll change while still being the same people. It's arguably my favorite cast of characters in anime, and it's become one of my very very few 10/10 shows, along with Bebop, Gurren Lagann, and Breaking Bad.
I don't particularly have a set of boxes that need to be checked off in order for me to give something a 10/10. It's just more of a "know it when I feel it" kinda thing. I give all my 10's and subsequent scores for different reasons based on how much I like the individual product. K-On's just one of those that just has the power to make me laugh, relax, have consistent amounts of fun and completely overwhelm me with emotions the likes of which next to nothing has ever consistently done to me especially 2 whole years after first seeing it. If anything I feel more strongly about it nearly every time I watch it.
K-ON will forever, forever be my favorite anime. Because I relate to it in daily life, and it's like reliving memories with my friends. It's very chill and there's no high stakes, so it's very easy to relax to.

I strongly recommend you watch K-ON!!. It takes the absolute strongest parts of the first season and boosts it to new heights through excellent pacing, a more unified direction and defined character interactions, and an incredibly emotional climax to the story that outshines that of season 1's. That being said, I do think K-ON! is an incredible work already.
DxFan, I love you. Everything you said about this show was spot on. It gets such a bad rep due to how moe it is! However, that doesn't mean that it is without flaws. I even found myself skipping around episodes because sometimes I felt like it was dragged out or I felt like nothing was happening. Overall though, I felt like this show was really good! Also, considering that I watched this series long ago, while it was airing, I can proudly say that it was one of the anime that sticks in my head till this day! It takes a lot for an anime to do that. Also, I'm surprised you didn't say anything about the music. I would really like to hear your opinion on it! Finally, yes, Mio is BEST GIRL. PERIOD.
If you enjoyed K-On! you really should check out the show's second season (K-On!! with two exclamation marks, get it). It only gets better. The movie is also great. Glad you enjoyed K-On!, though. It's one of my favorite series!
This is one that is definitely polarizing. I find it funny you fell right int the middle. I have heard people hate on this thing, and others who praise it as if it's one of the best anime ever.
K-On is quite fun to watch especially being made from KyoAni. Now I can see why people miss K-On so much. I’m sure there are other anime shows to watch that resemblance to K-On
I really loved Code Geass, but I can respect that you didn't and I really look forward to your code geass video and seeing what you have to say about it.
I'm so happy that this Review turned out positively. I really liked K-On. Especially the first few episodes made me laugh so hard, it has probably been months since I experienced anything comparable. In my opinion, the series had its darkest episodes (meaning the worst) when it came to the end. So much even, that I considered not watching the second season. And that's because of "Azunyan" which really pissed me off, because she seemed to have incredibly less character in herself, while even making the other members and the teacher look like "one stupid group". She stole from the show what made it so good in my eyes and turned all the other characters into clichés just to give some extreme moe character, and that disappointed me really hard. However this got much better in the second season and I'm very happy with that. While at first just being another weakened episode of the first season, the show evolved into something bigger, made me accept and even kinda like Azunyan in the end, and really giving me an emotional experience because I could really relate to the main cast's feelings when getting to the end of their school carreer. So in the end, season one started off amazingly and got pretty weak in the end, while season two started off a little weak and beat all of my expectations in the end. I am really happy that I was able to experience this anime, that managed to really bring me to tears both in a comedic way, and also in a serious one. To this day, I do not understand how anyone could call this "shit" and luckily I've never met someone who did. And I think even you, DXF, would probably consider an even higher rating, upon watching the second season. In combination with the K-On Movie, it actually blew my mind for the nice parallels, like giving me some questions about things in S2 (like "why did they meet their 'angel' in their final song?") and answering those in the movie by repeating a scene from another perspective and adding some extra scenes. All in all: Great work and highly underrated. Somewhere about 8/9 out of 10 in my opinion at least, maybe even higher if I think about it properly. EDIT: Well...9 or higher on its good episodes, in the end probably an average 8 or so, when taking into account the weak episodes as well^^
I like it but I can’t tell who the target audience is it has mild swearing and some mature humor so clearly not for kids but so little it’s clearly not for adults.
Good video on K-On,, I never saw the Anime, but that is because I generally do not care about Slice of Life Anime series. The only one that I do enjoy as a Guilty Pleasure choice is the Super Sonico Anime, but that only because of the subject matter is about Gravure idols, which I do like. And like K-On, the Super Sonico Anime is polarizing in a similar way. But at the moment in the Anime market, the Super Sonico Anime is really the only Anime about Gravure idols at the moment so it is either that or nothing. I think the thing I have learned about Slice of Life Anime series is that you have to have the right mind for the series, the comedy/humor for the series which is hit or miss because comedy is subjective to on or another, or the series subject matter of the series, because many Slice of Life Anime tend to have different focuses for different audiences such as High School, Music, comedy, a Manga artist, daily life, etc. So the many series are going to have different audiences based on what the series is all about. Agree/Disagree, DXFan619 with what I said.
Since you like K-On so much now, how about if you would look at Sailor Moon and Card Captor Sakura, because those are animes that are also popular, and good, CCS being the absolute best one that's for sure. And since you do know Chobits, you should know that CCS was also created by the same group that created Chobits, namely Clamp.
Been a long time since I watch k on, i remember having fun watching it. But throughout the year this moe shit is everywhere most of are bad or mediocre. But i still think k on still hold up even today.
I vaguely remember when K-On was still aired, either 1st season or beginning of 2nd season, I stopped watching K-On. I thought it was boring. At that time I was more interested in Naruto and One Piece...... In recent years I have realised a change in taste of genres. Nowadays those mainstream shonen supernatural stuff (especially with fan service) is extremely boring to me. Instead I prefer stories about characters and their progression. Last week I finally rewatched K-On, the 2nd season and the movie, after noticing that I like to watch KyoAni works and I must say I really liked it. Yeah the characters are a little over the top. But they are portrayed so well that they seem almost real. Especially because I can relate to all 5 characters, I mean I know people irl that are very similar to them, though they don't come in a package like in K-On. What made me think, I like the show not because there was almost no plot, but because I dreaded the end of the series. I really felt like I lost something after the series was over. I really didn't want it to be over. I really didn't want to say good bye to the characters. When I complete other stories, I just move on and either praise or criticise the ending but I never dread the ending. To your main complaints about K-On. That's mostly the fault of the original creator of the manga. His drawings weren't good, his story was bad, his jokes were bad. And he of course included fan service. It was KyoAni that tried to avoid fan service and I liked that they did. KyoAni made K-On great. They kept very close to the source material but added a lot of their own stuff. In recent months KyoAni has become my #1 anime studio. Btw I don't think Yui is an airhead, she has proven several times, if she puts the effort into it, she achieves good grades, and even though she has no clue about theoretical music, she is a natural. I did say Yui has some sort of autism xD
There are two kinds of people who don't like K-On: 1. Those who actually watched it, or watched a decent chunk and just don't like that sort of anime. These people will generally just say it was boring and give it a 4 or 5. 2. Those who haven't watched it and decry it as a terrible 1/10 show that ruined anime. Guaranteed that if someone says that K-On is an outright bad show, that it is poorly made and has some sort of absolutely insurmountable flaw outside of just not being their kind of show, they won't be able to tell you what it is (the most you'll get is "it's moe trash") and this is almost always because they didn't watch it and just heard it was the worst thing ever.
As for the "well defined school layout"; it definitely helps that the school is based on Toyosato Elementary School (which is why you see The Tortoise and the Hare on the stairway to the music room).
One of my favourites shows of all time but you should really watch the second season, even if it has some problems in pacing in the first half and some of the episodes have the same flaws than the first season, it is way better overall and solves some problems especially the relation some of the characters have with other characters(azunyan is like 1000 times better in the second season) It also has a better direction and once you get to episode 15 (more or less, i dont remeber) it becomes an absolute masterpiece (at least for me).
I was sorta hoping you would talk about the music, since it is classed as a music show. I found K-ON's soundtrack to vary. Some tracks are just meh, while others (mainly the closing songs) are really good. What would be your opinion on the soundtrack? Also, K-ON has 2 manga sequels (called K-ON College and K-ON Highschool) that could interest you if you liked the show. It follows the same formula as the show, one manga shows the four main girls go to college, while the other manga shows the other characters continue the club. It's rather good, imo
well i never watched this show and probably never will, because i'm not interested in things like that (maybe because i'm a girl and i'm not into all that "cute girls" thing), but your opinion was pretty interesting p. s. wow, i have pretty similar yellow hairclips that Yui girl wears
I think "K-On!" is fine. It's the 2nd season "K-On!!" where I think the series jumped the shark. Having a full 26 episodes didn't help. The season seemed to drag on, the Openings were shit, but the Endings were fantastic. I think the 2nd season could've been stronger if there was more focus on Azusa and her sorrow over the main girls on the cusp of graduation. They only briefly touch on this point which, I think, was the highest points of the season. This is my opinion, however.
+BooM SHAKALAKA I like Mugi, she's pretty cute. Like majority of the cast, hell I like all the main characters of K-ON. But I like Mio the best, mainly because I like girls with long black hair.
Too bad you didn't like Code Geass, I love it and think its one of the greats, still its your opinion which I respect and in all fairness Code Geass is that one anime that tried to cater to EVERY anime fan out there and it does show (ESPECIALLY in the High School parts).
TheSlayFer Ch. T. Still, even though I respect his opinion I can't help but find his opinions less reliable after that. Still love him though, I just won't take him as seriously as I used to.

i love k on :) its the only animuu wear i got one of the figurines because i appreciated it so much
K-ON is for losers like me with no friends that watch to vicariously experience feel-good feelings of friendship
10/10 would watch again
Review Gangsta I wanna see your opinion on this anime
Of course you post this in the middle of my 4th period class.
even the shows you love don't have to be a masterpiece (that's what i think)
K-On is quite fun to watch especially being made from KyoAni. Now I can see why people miss K-On so much. I’m sure there are other anime shows to watch that resemblance to K-On
there is bocchi the rock which is just K-on with drugs
The cherry burst Les Paul sold me.
I really loved Code Geass, but I can respect that you didn't and I really look forward to your code geass video and seeing what you have to say about it.
+Michael James
I personally like it, too. But I understand why other people don't. And I can respect that. It's based on preference.
YAS, I love k-on so freaking much!
EDIT: Well...9 or higher on its good episodes, in the end probably an average 8 or so, when taking into account the weak episodes as well^^
You should review Kaiba, Tatami Galaxy and Kaiji! I want to know what you think of these anime series.
I love K-on, it's so cute 😍
I really liked K-on. I'd give it a 7 or 8 outa ten.
I like it but I can’t tell who the target audience is it has mild swearing and some mature humor so clearly not for kids but so little it’s clearly not for adults.
The movie is gone in cail sadly it was literally my favorite most show and I cried like 3 times and can’t forget about it
It's a fun and fine series.
I gave it 6/10
K-on is a great anime in my opinion
MUGI IS CURIOUS AND APPRECIATIVE! BEST GIRL! WOOOO! 😂
A true man of culture. Well concluded dear sir!
Agree/Disagree, DXFan619 with what I said.
i love ur reviews
Me watching K-ON! : Wow, too many waifu!
I’m back here after 4 years. Saw it on Netflix, the show is alright. I wouldn’t revisit it often though.
I understand why it’s rated TV-PG on Netflix but why the heck is it rated TV-14 on Hulu and HIDIVE
Guilty crown.... ooooh thats was an experience i will *never* forget
I did say Yui has some sort of autism xD
k-on is my favorite anime i watch it and it's was amazing
I don't think you've watched a lot of anime😂
Satria Nugraha you sound like moe robot
This is the only anime which make me crying. Well actually it's a comedy but seriously it's make me crying at the ending.
Yess
go Yous
i agree, as into the direction
K-ON is my favorite Anime
Your comment at 8:40
... LMAO! xD
Good fucking taste
The only people who think K-On is boring either haven't watched it or don't prefer a lot of typical moe slice of life elements
There are two kinds of people who don't like K-On:
I watched K-On withour hearing or reading any reviews, but it was fun, it stretched sometimes but it is a good anime.
When I've watched Elfen Lied I thought it was really good. But then I turned eighteen.
Please go and watch Cute High Earth Defense Club Love! aka Battle Lovers :D
I loved the show, just on how self aware it was.
I love this anime🥺
Azunyan is my fav cause yui just love her
Can you reviewing Pyschopass wanna hear your thoughts
Agreed on Mio.
Mio is the best.
Have you ever seen the show "Working!!"? If you have what do/did you think of it?
It'd be fun af if you did a review on Seraph of the End.
2009 DAM THE ANIMATION IS GREAT
The same thing happens to me all the time! People recommended both Kill la Kill and Panty and Stocking to me, and now I hate these shows.
There's no real reason to hate either of them, both are excellent.
Panty and Stocking was a travesty and an insult to anime. Panty is probably the most dislikeable anime characters ever!
@@joseagustincuesta there's heaps of reasons to hate Panty and Stocking
what do you think about angel beats!
It gets alot better with S2 and the movie
Why is the movie rated TV-14
I was sorta hoping you would talk about the music, since it is classed as a music show. I found K-ON's soundtrack to vary. Some tracks are just meh, while others (mainly the closing songs) are really good. What would be your opinion on the soundtrack?
Also, K-ON has 2 manga sequels (called K-ON College and K-ON Highschool) that could interest you if you liked the show. It follows the same formula as the show, one manga shows the four main girls go to college, while the other manga shows the other characters continue the club. It's rather good, imo
DX's thoughts on K-On, the ultimate moe anime.
He's right
Its also on Netflix :D
And they changed the rating to a more fitting TV-PG
Not anymore
I think the VA also contributed hugely to this show, especially the ones for Yui and Ritsu, I don't think they did better voice jobs after that point.
that pic at the end hahahah
total jumpscare lol
i really do like mio more than the others though ...
MOTHER FUCKING TEA !!
~ Gigg UK
k-on is 9/10, the graphic is great from that year
I love K-ON
well i never watched this show and probably never will, because i'm not interested in things like that (maybe because i'm a girl and i'm not into all that "cute girls" thing), but your opinion was pretty interesting
p. s. wow, i have pretty similar yellow hairclips that Yui girl wears
i will give it a 9 or 10
I loved K-on
Do you want to watch more music anime? I like Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad.
Mio looks like best girl material.
Thoughts on Taboo Tatoo?
Oh, I agree.
Mio is so adorable. But it's also my personal preference of girls with long black hair.
People Have always said to me K-ON was great? I mean who wouldn't Want a Cute girl band anime? You really cant go wrong ;D
I was about to say that your taste is superb but then you mentioned worst girl
stop
You mean "that your taste is identical to mine".
What you talking about? Mio is the best.
Matthew Cool mugi is
+BooM SHAKALAKA I like Mugi, she's pretty cute. Like majority of the cast, hell I like all the main characters of K-ON. But I like Mio the best, mainly because I like girls with long black hair.
Hahah! I should watch this!
Have you ever seen or plan to check out Noragami?
Too bad you didn't like Code Geass, I love it and think its one of the greats, still its your opinion which I respect and in all fairness Code Geass is that one anime that tried to cater to EVERY anime fan out there and it does show (ESPECIALLY in the High School parts).
TheSlayFer Ch. T. Still, even though I respect his opinion I can't help but find his opinions less reliable after that. Still love him though, I just won't take him as seriously as I used to.
Connor Menkins Fair enough, but I don't think he expects us to agree with him on everything.
