Most people start as unbelievers, but in the end, everyone sees the truth. I think the mistake a lot of people going into K-On make is expecting a big story and a music focus, and it ends up rubbing them the wrong way. As you realized, it was about the relationship between the girls and their ordinary lives, and they are very easy to empathize with. I mean they had big dreams to play at Budokan, I don't know anyone who has never made impossible goals with their friends and just immediately give up on them to goof off. K-On's simplicity is its biggest strength, I love how grounded and laid back, and subtle the show is. It's the perfect comfort show. Also gotta hand it to the voice actresses who do an amazing job, Ritsu especially is oozing with personality in how she talks.
I do actually recall not getting the joke and expecting them to actually play at the Budokan before the anime's end. While I didn't mind and found the whole "this is our Budokan" thing sweet, I didn't realize the entire point behind that until afterwards. I remember bringing it up to my friend (who actually recommended K-ON! to me) and that's when I had it explained to me. Also for me this was quite literally a comfort show. I'm going through a complicated part of my life right now and my friend actually suggested K-ON! because I was looking for something casual I could simply vibe to. Prior to this, I had never watched a moe or slice-of-life anime before. I appreciate it because, while giving me what I was looking for, it also provided a rich enough narrative to still stick with me moving forward. And now there's this whole community for me to be a part of. I also found myself relating to Mio a lot when it came to my own present emotional state (although Yui is more "me" overall), so that was nice.
Imagine the world in 2009. The crisis just hit Japanese economy, people have a lot less money to spend on entertainment, especially expensive blu-ray anime. Many studios are cutting their costs as much they can, some went bankrupt, especially those who just a couple of years before (after success of Death Note) were trying to make their shows appeal to foreign viewers more at the potential risk of making them appeal less for domestic audiences. In a time like this someone at KyoAni decides to put all the stakes on a newcomer director (only 24 years old at the time) and adapt a quite mediocre manga into an anime while doing this fully in house which is very atypical in the industry at the time. They hire 5 first-time voice actresses, record many hours of music, add a ton of original material to the manga content, rework the character looks, expressions and personality, strip the manga off a lot of bad-taste fan-service. Which all results in a masterpiece show that sprung a plethora of copycat shows defining a whole new genre in the medium. They went for the art and won. It made them a lot of money as well, giving that the terms of their contract with the manga author/publisher were likely very preferential since it wasn't very popular. But the anime IS now. When you like a piece of art, it's because it resonates with you. Sounds trivial and obvious, but think about it. When you truly enjoy it it's because of that feeling YES THAT'S HOW I FEEL. And so you make a connection with those who made that art piece. You feel now that they are your kind of people, they make their art to express something that you feel as well. Ever had a group of true friends that spent a lot of good time with? That's the feeling of K-on. Last year some of those people who made a deep impact on me through the art they created have died a horrible death. I never thought it could happen to me, but I felt devastated, even tho I never even knew their names prior to that. It was like losing someone that was close to me. I guess they were in a sense. Like a part of me died with them. Damn this turned out longer and sadder than I imagined. Also my English is a mess. So anyway great video, you definitely deserve more subs.
Very well said. I completely agree that the media you end up gravitating towards the most are the ones that you can personally connect and relate to. I can't imagine how it must have felt to hear about the news last year, as I didn't even get into anime until quarantine started, but I can express how proud I am of kyoani themselves and fans like you who persevered through it. The future is looking bright for them now, which is amazing. Hopefully it stays that way for as long as possible
For the record, the statement about the VAs being new is almost true. Several of them already had around 2-3 years experience when the show aired in 2009, but mostly for minor roles, so K-On was their first /major/ anime role.
Hey Totaraum Did You Know I'm trying learn all of the songs from k-on on my guitar which my guitar looks almost exactly like Yui Hirasawa's guitar PS I also named my guitar Geeta
6 years later i'm still passionate about this particular show. there's an ocean of moe blobs but K-ON is golden. the ost, originals, character songs, live concerts, theyre all so good.
Watching this show feels like watching a real group of friends, one day they say they are going to do something amazing, but end up goofing around all the time. Laughing at stupid shit, talking normal about everyday thing. I mean, one of my favorite episodes is about them buying a shelves. Is not about what you do, is about doing this mundane, meaningless things with people your friends. Because they make everything better by just being with you.
I remember the bit that really drove that realism home was during the first year festival when Yui and Ritsu are supposed to be scrambling together to get to gather equipment and make final rehearsals (their other friends and colleagues even going out of their way to cover for them eg like at Yui's yakisoba stall), but then they couldn't resist spending awkwardly too long goofing off pretending to be sumos because of Yui's busted voice before moving. Who hasn't goofed off themselves while there's something urgent that needs doing (or felt slightly annoted when they catch their other friends goofing off when you're panicking about something that should have been completed 20 minutes ago).
k-on is an unequivocal master piece. The series turns into a direction (going from being about Yui and tea to being about Azunyan being left behind) in a subtle way that hits you like a literal ton of bricks. and then they fucking did it again with the movie.
Herb Master I’m sure it’s bringing a lot of new people in, I just watched it using my brother’s blue rays after seeing the first three on some random website. I thought I’d make a joke out of it because you’re technically not supposed to do that
Strawberry Cube that’s awesome! It is one of those few shows that can consistently illicit a reaction like that from people. Also you’ve got good taste in characters
God I love people still make videos about K-on! even tho the show is a decade old. I feel like this show will never die out and be forgotten, it’s something special for all us, for me, for everybody. Everything about this show is special. Im a die-hard K-on fan and I could re-watch this show so many times and still wouldn’t get bored of it. It’s always nice re-living the nice memories and laugh with the girls. Hated when the show ended, it made me really cry knowing I won’t see these girls perform together again. K-on! made me realize something, to cherish and enjoy every second of your life, of your youth. I’m starting high school next year and I will make sure to try and enjoy every second. This show has now inspired me to hopefully in my high school years to join a band and hopefully play music like how HTT did. For anybody reading this that is still young, please, please enjoy your youth. It doesn’t last forever. Enjoy life while your still young. Get included in any after-school activities you want to try out. You want to try out for the volleyball team in your school? Go for it. Want to play in a band like HTT? Go. For. It. The worst feeling you can possibly have in the end is the regret of not doing something you wish you would have done. Make friends with people who share same interests as you. Just live life. Thank you for anybody who’s read this far, I’ll make my departure here. Btw great video totaraum!
People like to say "ah K-On!'s boring all they do is hang out, moe is stupid" but that's what makes it good. K-On! is good because it's simple and feels like real life. That's why it'll always be my favorite anime because of the vibe, the characters, the music, the animation, and the message. Enjoy the good times while they last.
@@Totaraum hey she's not wrong with her assumption. But at least it's not a review that kinda wants to force anyone else watching the show. Recommending however is completely another thing
@@Keqingsimp9057 you’re right, I was just being sarcastic because she’s my friend. When am I gonna learn this stuff doesn’t translate well through text? Probably never
Aniket Narvekar very true, it’s hard to put yourself in a situation where something you enjoy can be pooped all over by someone else. At the end of the day though, I think it’s worth it regardless of whether or not they liked it because it shows you cared enough about them to share it
Just finished K-On! and it is the best piece of media I've ever seen. Your analysis is extremely accurate and well put and is very similar to how I felt. Thanks for a great video!
The first time i watched K-on it was love at first sight. I can't say what hasn't been said about K-on, i have so many things to say about it, but i think one thing resumes it perfectly, "Fun things are fun"
K-On! is still my #1 favorite anime. I think in part two of the interview you referenced, one of them mentioned something like "they only have this moment but they don't know it" as being one of the major points of the show. The girls live each day just having fun and Yui even says graduation is far away when asked about it at the beginning of season 2. Then they realize "oh wait that was our final high school show" and it hits them how much hanging out has meant to them. Another thing the mentioned was watching K-On at different points in your life to see how your perspective changes. I 1st watched it at 19 and then at 24 and i loved it both times in different ways
Was requested this show a year or two back from an online friend but didn’t watch it until late December since it was added to Netflix sometime then, and man, haven’t been ever more punched in the face about graduation in season two plus the movie, honestly makes feel a bit sad knowing I’m not graduating along side friends who I haven’t seen in person since 2014 after I moved. But I’m honestly glad that this show made me realize that it was coming soon. This show has also made me pick up a guitar which I got as a late Christmas present from my stepdads dad, haven’t done much with it since the middle of March since of the whole pandemic and online schooling and whatnot but I promised myself when I’m done with school I’ll pick it up again. Bless this show and thanks to my friend for recommending this show to me since it makes me imagine meeting them in person and just chilling and playing our instruments.
Thok man they really did go for a sucker punch at the end, didn’t they? Best of luck with the guitar, learning an instrument is a ton of fun, and I’m sure wherever your buddy is they’d be proud to hear what you’re doing. Thanks for sharing!
@@Totaraum Yeah they totally went for some emotional sucker punches in the end. Not just one. I like how you described your journey through K-on. The thing is...I started the anime because it looked funny and learned actually very important things (maybe even just relearned but then I haven't really thought about the deep messages this anime gave to me that much ever before) But one thing I really missed in this video was a short analysation of Ui's character and her relationship with Yui. And also that you didn't talk about the message that Yui left in the song U&I that she dedicated to her sister. That was a very deep and touching moment with it's own message. And when Yui and the band performed that song....it was just as ruthless with the feelings as the final song dedicated to azunyan. But it was a nice video anyway
@@Totaraum oh thanks for the heart. It's always nice to see that at least some out of many video creators really read the comments and not just ignore them^^
@@Keqingsimp9057 reading comments is one of my favorite things about making videos, so thank you for writing! Also I agree that U&I was a missed opportunity on my part. I’m sure I could’ve found a way to fit it in
@@Totaraum haha and I have my youtube acc just for WRITING comments and reading other comments. I'm not a creator^^ But since you need to have an acc to post comments...well yeah
K-On and Adventure Time are two of my favorite shows of all time and I believe the reason why is because they accurately depict friendship in a way that without it the two would be less than what it are. The relationship between the girls and the relationships between the myriad of characters in Adventure Time are evolved right in front of our eyes as the stories progress. And in a way, we grow to be their friends too. I’d also like to mention how the K-On soundtrack is loaded with BANGERS. From the HTT songs, to the character songs, even the background music. It’s a show that will stick with me and it’s music will be forever etched into the fretboard of my guitar.
This fucking show shouldn't have ever had anything after season 1. It didn't have to drag me so deep. What did I do to deserve being strapped on such an emotional rollercoaster with my nose touching the rails all the way. It was just... Something else...
I watched the first 3 episodes of K-On in September 2017 and I dropped it after. I returned back in 2018 and I watched them again, and then kept on going. My advice is that to appreciate K-On you must be at least in your 20s and have already watched a lot of anime. Once you get attached to the characters you will not just like it, you will love it! K-On ends with the movie after season 2 and we will always wait for season 3. The show is just so pure and I am glad that in the end all the girls went to the same female local college. We could have a an extended story of their lives in college, Azusa in high school before possibly joining them. They could spend several years in college and then have them work together. To my knowledge at the time our now young women are in the workforce there is a spin off Manga called K-On Shuffle set 5-10 years after they return from London where new girls take over the club in High School. They could have a concert with them in the future.
Yup, I believe there's both that manga and two other ones about Azusa's last year and the other four going to college. No idea if they're any good or not. Also I might be an exception to your recommendation because k-on was the first proper anime that I watched
This almost perfectly describes my K-on experience as well. It took me until episode 12 of season 1 to realize that this show was special, and it took me until that scene of them all sitting next to each other under the window in their HTT shirts to realize exactly why I loved it so much. This whole series was a trip in the best possible way and you'd better believe I'm gonna re-watch it dubbed and read the manga as well as the college sequel, because I'd give anything to spend more time with these 5 dumbasses
Just completed it a few days ago. Now I am left with a never ending empty feeling. I can't understand how a completely fun anime has left my souls to shreds. I can't shake off the feeling that this might as well be the last anime I watch.
Thank you for making this vid. This show changed my life. I have watched enough anime in my 22 years of life and I can proudly say that this is my all-time favorite. Nothing can top K-On......
i can't explain how much i love this piece of art. i have rewatched this show for maybe at least 5 times and i cry every single time, because it was so relatable and so unique to the point where i would rank this anime a number 1 in my opinion. when i first started watching it, i was very new to the whole anime stuff, and music was my number 1 thing i was passionate about, so i watched k-on, hoping that they would make epic slappers of soundtracks. and they did, along with the smooth animations and the relatability of the characters which i really am very surprised about. being a high schooler myself, it really hits hard when you know your golden days are running out and soon, you'll be ending up either with your best friends in a good college or pursuing your dreams in a much higher one. and i would pick the first option without any hesitation. and even making silly goals that you know you will never reach while you just sit there, lazing around with your friends, having a great time just chatting and doing dumb things, is so goddamn relatable. it hit me so hard it made me wanna start playing an instrument, so i picked bass, out of the 4 instruments i could choose. maybe mio has played a huge part in it, seeing how relatable she is to me. and maybe her reason why she picked up the bass has stirred up something in my heart that made me really passionate about it. overall a very spectacular anime and it will forever have a special place in my heart. it made me realize that i should cherish my friendships and just have fun while it lasts. it doesn't really matter about the dreams you have set during the years, it's all about all the meaningless stuff you did with your friends knowing that they make everything better just by being with you.
K-On! is my favorite anime of all time and, like you, when I started watching it I didn't get it or understand why it was so popular. But, as time went on, I found myself more and more invested and falling in love with these characters and wanting to spend time with them. There are so many things to pick up on, too. Rewatching season one after watching the entire series also brings newfound appreciation to it and I think it's improved knowing where these girls will end up. I went from not really getting it to now owning that expensive collector's edition box set that came out a few months back. I love this show.
That’s awesome! It’s always the best feeling when you go into something you think you won’t like but come out the other side with a new favorite. That box set is something else, too. I was shocked when I saw how much stuff they managed to cram into that thing
I relate to a lot of things in this video. K-ON! is also one of my first animes. I could probably count the animes I have watched on my own two hands. And all of them up until now have been more action-adventure-oriented. Like you, I definitely play games more than I watch stuff, and I don't think I would have ever given K-ON! the time of day if not for my friend recommending it to me. But now that I have watched it, it's easily become one of my obsessions, as is evident by me still seeking out K-ON! content through UA-cam and using one of the characters to portray myself online. I can't stop thinking about it, even in my dreams, and now it's up there with other special interests of mine just like that. I didn't think I'd like animes of this style before now and I only even bothered with it this time around because I was looking for something more casual as a way to relieve stress. I didn't expect it to matter to me moving forward from that. So glad it was on "Netflix" lol. 5:57 Also, as a Yui x Ritsu shipper, I thought of a few "reasons" when that scene happened. Anyway, you did go over a lot of things that I think subconsciously I internalized but consciously I wasn't fully appreciative of. It is honestly really impressive to see the amount of detail and creative vision that went into this thing. That interview was an interesting look into that creative vision too. While the lack of a story wasn't as bothersome to me, I had been hyping up this expectation of them actually going to the Budokan. Now, don't get me wrong, the ending was great. Still, I didn't realize until a bit later that the Budokan was never really the goal of the show. I know they say the Student Festival is their Budokan, but I didn't get the fuller implications of that line right away. While I do actually like to imagine them being successful as a band (College and High School both give me a lot to work with there), the show itself is clearly more focused on the simplicity of high school band fun. Ordinary indeed. And on her point about empathizing with these ordinary stories and characters, that's definitely something I feel strongly about. For me Mio was the one I found myself empathizing with a lot, mostly because I was myself feeling a lot of anxiety and shyness when I watched it. Yet her resolve to keep moving forward anyway also reminded me of my own resolve and made me feel better every time. I do find this all a little funny, since I do think Yui resembles me in general more, but yeah. 13:06 Anddd just like that I'm crying again.
K-ON was easy to get into. From the beginning, I felt a warm, welcoming comfort. As the journey progressed, I slowly became more attached to the main girls and other characters. While they may not have the strongest motives for everything, I soon realized they were just enjoying their youth. Which at the time, I didn't understand because I was another senior in high school who wanted to leave asap. I was too much of in a hurry. HTT/ k-on taught me to slow down and look at the world outside of my own.
My favourite thing about k-on is the subtle character development, especially with the 4 girls we start out with, you never notice that they change but the people they are in episode one are meirly a distant memmory of the people they are when they graduate. The Yui in the picture at 3:37 is so hesitant and confused, she doesn't know if she really even wants to be part of this group, you know that if this was endgame yui she'd be standing proud, arms around her buddies with a big goofy grin on her face, she'd know exactly why she was there and be exited for things to come. Anyone who has had the same friend/friends for a long time can attest to the fact that you never see them changing until you see a picture of them from when you meet and you think "wait, who the fuck is that??". No show captures that feeling like k-on
This show hits different specially in the times we are going through right now. I was like most people at the beginning I just thought it was going to be boring I have to say I skipped like 30 seconds at the beginning. I would have never thought it would actually make me go through a roller coasters of emotions. I think the fact that I only watched 3 -4 episodes/ week helped. I don’t think this show is meant to be binge watched. It is rather about enjoying the journey and having a good time to the jokes. By the end of season 2 you feel like you’ve been part of the group. Like you said every single detail the producers and animators put in this shows the caring they had to the series. It is not meant to be a sad anime but throughout the series there are so many times i couldn’t hold myself and started crying, specially at the end of the journey and at the final song. I know this is not really a “manly” show but I can’t help myself to appreciate it. The emotions this masterpiece gave me some of them are indescribable, it definitely had some flaws, but it truly shows us what kind of friendship we are all seeking to have in my opinion. Right now however that is not really possible, but on the bright side It has gave me the inspiration to learn new things and improve as a person. Anyways I didn’t want to write a brick of text. Thanks for your review I was really searching for one for a long time and finally UA-cam recommend me yours. Take care and have a good day.
Another time crying while watching one of these kind of videos show that episode 20 scene huh. Thanks, I guess. Yeah, this is a great video. And what makes it great is the same that makes K-On great. Good job
I've known about K-on ever since 2009 or 2010 when it was the talk of the anime community and I even bought my little sister a K-on poster even though neither of us have watched it. I actually first watched it just a week ago and finished it yesterday (so around Christmas 2022) and watched everything including the OVA's and I was wondering why I didn't watch it sooner. It really is a masterpiece and it's one of the most adorable anime I have ever seen and I have seen like around 100 by now. The ending hits so hard because it was so sad to see Azusa crying because her senpais graduated and will leave her alone in the club but then they sang her a song about how she is a precious friend to them and they'll always be friends. *spoiler alert I am just happy that in one of the sequel about Azusa in her final year of high school, her buddies Ui and Jun agreed to join the club and together, they continued the club without Yui, Mio, Ritsu and Mugi.
This show really was incredible to me, and it helped me to appreciate my friends a lot more. It was also extremely realistic, and had a lot of genius moments that would 100% happen if a group of teenage girls in real life were talking, like Yui talking too much and just being ignored/cut off which always made me smile. My favorite episode is when they are on a school trip and are trying to sleep when Mugi starts saying random words and leads to giggling, because this has to have happened to everyone at a sleepover before.
Happy to say I’ve proudly added K-On to my pantheon of best anime ever. It may not be a Monster-level thriller, a Tarantinoesque roller coaster like Black Lagoon or a genre-mashing medley like whatever Shinichiro Watanabe is doing, but it has its own unique charm with a cast of characters that take each day as it comes with a smile and a slice of cake
K-on is the very first Anime i watch and somehow it is also the only anime that i can say i love it. it has a very particular "air" which is lovely, soft and simply chill. i rewatch this anime, from first season to last and even the movies, 10 times already. This show simply a slice of life, it is boring nothing special happened, no drama no fighting, nothing, just a girl band living their life and enjoy it but somehow it is relaxing and sometime make me sad just because my school life is messy and i didnt have a childhood as comfortable as them. but thank God that i have an "ability" to be so immerse into a story that sometime i mistake myself being in that story so that i can actually feel the "comfortable" those girls had. maybe that is why i like K-on so much.
so, i started watching k-on! on animax when i was in grade three and bc i was really small and i loved cute stuff, i really got attracted to yui and ended up watching the show every evening when I got back from school. rn im in grade 11th and i feel so old rewatching this again xD. i came across their graduation song (idk what it's called gommenasai), and it sent me into nostalgia mode sm i decided to rewatch the show two days ago. im halfway into s1 and i just wanted to say that this will always be my favourite comfort anime. i feel bad for the people who never watched k on, worse for the people who don't know this show exists, but for the ones who have, im really glad they exist. i was so happy to hear your views on the show and trust me, k on has helped me get happier sm. i love all of the five girls (yui's my favorite heh always). and im so so so happy that such a show exists in the world. this has honestly taught me to look at life differently and I'm so happy to be able to be happy bc of these four drunk girls 🤣😍. i hope more and more people come across k on in the future. thank you sm for making a video on this!!! take love
It's fascinating that even now 2023 K-On is still around and people talk about it, watch it and relate to it. The show landed in my lap more or less by chance but after the first season I couldn't get the second season quick enough! Then all Christmases arrived at the same time when they released the news that a movie was in the making! *happydance* Now years later, I've been to Japan, Kyoto and "their" school (Toyosato Elementary School). I turned Akihabara upside down to get my hands on some second hand K-On figurines and the whole band are now standing here on a shelf next to my computer, ready to play me a song. 😁 Your description of your journey along with the girls was great and I recognize it from other comments I've read from other people who just didn't get it at first but then got sucked in. Naoko Yamada is a genius! And KyoAni is by far the best studio in Japan in so many ways that I don't know where to start. I really are looking forward to what Yamada-san is going to show us next! Btw. have you watched the live concerts by the voice actors from K-On? They had two big concerts, one after each season ended that was packed with a totals of 40 000 fans in the audience. The girls actually learned to play their characters instrument prior to this concert and perfomed some songs all by themselves. That is dedication and love for the show! The shows was epic in every way and fun to watch. Look it up! ua-cam.com/video/wdbuiGlvsdU/v-deo.html
@@Totaraum Now I've watched the rest of you yearly K-On videos. Good job there! :D Especially putting together that music list. Oh my... 👍 Perhaps you should make a video about the two concerts next time!? For a K-On fan they are a great part of the legacy and you get to see all the voice actors goofing around of stage and get a great concert x 2 (and floods of tears) It's clearly a great experience for the voice actors to meet the fans of the show and get so much love. Thanks to their engagement and love the whole team put in to this work K-On got a big and solid fan base that still exist today a decade later. The group made a comeback as a 10th year anniversary at the yearly musicfestival Animelo 2019 at Saitama Arena and I'm almost sure that they got the biggest cheer from the audience that day when they started! I don't know if their performance there was announced in advance or not but that's not important I guess. The concerts are a bit hard to find I guess but they do exist on DVD/BD (with subtitles in english) or you could do like I did in my desperation, just pirate them from a torrent site (subs found on another place), but I will try to get my hands on the DVDs when I find them for a decent price. 😁✌Keep up the good work!
I am a cold hearted bastard that has lost everyone in my life that ever mattered. This show had me weeping like a little girl. Loved it. Sad it was so short though but at least the movie tied it up nicely.
Unfortunately, I've only watched K-on like, two weeks ago, so the hype is mostly gone, but this show surpassed any anime I've watched until today, but, as it was said in the video, the viewer can empathize with the characters, specially at the end, because you can imagine you and your best friends finishing high school and separating from each other. I just think K-on really show us how we should live every moment like it's the last time it'll happen, and that's why I love it. Great video! I loved every second of it, specially the jokes. :)
K-on is just cute girls doing cute things kind of anime. There is no solid story, and character development is a minimum. It's kind of like life. We usually have a set schedule and personality and rarely deviate away from it.
This was spot on, we didn't get into the show the same way but we did experience it the same way. (Fun fact, I have the Tenshi ni Fureta yo! Scene saved on all my drives and backup's 😂)
Man the song they did for Asuza was so good like it had me actually crying like a bitch, great analysis video btw! I can't wait to see where your channel goes my guy!
K-On! Is the show I turn to whenever i'm down, or just in the mood. It always puts a smile on my face, and makes all my problems go away. I loved this show, and wish there was a 3rd season animating K-On! High School and K-On! College. (I can only think of how heartwarming it would be if on one of the final episodes, Azusa graduates high school and the light music club reunites)
It was the 3rd anime I watched and still love it. Been to Japan twice and both times visited Kyoto (a lot of the town places are based on real places in Kyoto and the schooltrip went there) and Toyosato, because the actual school building is there and you can visit it. It's an actual K-on museum. Favourite character, Jun Suzuki and Midnight Superstar is still a fantastic song.
I really loved the anime, I never heard about it but I happened to stumble onto it a couple of years ago and i was hooked, this anime doesn’t try anything big, this anime is just really nice to watch and I enjoyed the time I did watching it, I don’t think I’ve watched an anime that formulates the same style and this and that’s a good thing, this is a rare anime that I will remember
We need season 3 it gives me depression after ending it. It is like after you form some connection with a friend, and suddenly ... At thr last episode it felt empty. It felt sad its like your friend who just died who will never comeback.
I don’t think it’s like they died, per se, more like they just moved to a different town. You can always go back to k-on, and as I’ve seen since watching it there are a ton of other shows that scratch that same itch. I don’t think we’ll ever get a season 3, but that’s totally fine with me. It’s the memories of the show that matter, and those aren’t going anywhere
K on is the only anime ive watched and finished and until i watched this video, i always ask myself why am i soooooo attached to this show and its characters and i'd say everything you put in this video makes sense. How the creators wants us to relate to the characters with their diverse personalities, how the show makes us feel relaxed and just enjoy the show until the end, etc. I'm glad you made this video to help me answer a question i had for quite a while xd Anyway really great video man keep it up!
K-On is my gateway drug to moeshit but it still stands tall in my list of top shows.. i didnt know the significance of this show to the studio itself and how much of a bet the entire work till i read someones comment on this video. Great work man
came across this anime through osu!, the song kira kira days by htt sounded amazing and i looked for the anime that it came from. sadly kira kira days was never featured in the anime but the introduction of k-on to me was great. the interactions between the characters were heartwarming and azusa being introduced in the later eps completed the anime altogether
the 1st time i watched K-On, i didnt think much ov it. i found it weird but the show grew on me after a few episodes, now im rewatching it for the 6th time. the last episode made me tear up a lot and made me remember the fun times i had with my friends back in high school. now i have 7 songs from K-On on my metal playlist lol. i frikkin luv this anime
That's just how it goes, I don't think I know anybody who instantly got invested into K-On! You gotta take your time with it. Also I'm sorry but that's no longer a metal playlist lol
when i started this anime i never in a million years thought it would fuck me up as bad as your lie in april did, like i figured it was the lightest slice of life anime i could have possibly watched, and then they hit me with that ending song... like man... i cried for the first time in months thank you for this video, you deserve much more attention
I'm linking to this in my English assignment on comparing Japan and Norway. The Sue Perkins documentary we had to watch beforehand contained some subtle K-ON! references, so I figured it was appropriate. I wish I had your prowess for making well-structured, well-thought-out, well-edited, and well-narrated reviews. Suppose the only way for me to improve is to make more than one review.
Oh wow, that's really cool! I hope your teacher/professor is ok with naughty words if they end up giving it a look. Also thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the video as much as you did, and you're definitely right about practice making improvement when it comes to making videos.
OH MY GOSH. I looked back at the show that I had just watched after I was done. There is another similar show in my list of Top 5 Animes, but this was so much better. I was wondering what made this show so good. And the first thing I said to myself was “Wait. There’s no plot.” And that’s why it’s super good. Also, I watched this and I thought it had come out in 2016 until I was talking with my uncle and he said “this is a classic, it came out while I was still in high school.”
Agreed. Even after so long this series still holds a very special place in my heart and I wouldn't have it any other way, I still listen to the albums that came along with it from time to time (Literal HOURS worth, I could get through and 8 hour day at work and only be done like 3/4ths of what's there) I gained a new appreciation for music because of this series and a new look on How i feel about those i care about where if I'm in a relationship just how much effort to put into it even if it's one sided. I can't tell you how fast I nabbed that big special edition version you showed in the video earlier. When I saw that avaliable for preorder My ass went right RIGHT for it, I didn't care how expensive it was, I knew it was something I needed even if I had a copy of the series already this was Blurays I wanted to have all the goodies with. It even motivated me to get the Live Events with it. I adored the voice actress' in this series, they certainly picked some very great actress' to voice the characters my favorite being Yoko Hikasa for Mio, my god she has a Beautiful voice. This series will never Not be my favorite. "After School Tea Time Is Always And Forever." I still break out into being so emotional watching it over again, laughing with it, crying with it. It's a series that made me who I am today. I couldn't give it a better explanation of How I feel about it because there are no words that could describe the feeling.
Just finished it myself. Surprised at the amount of subscribers you have. This was a top notch review and I totally agree with all the points you made. You really outdid yourself here. It was fantastic. Thanks for sharing.
This is my favourite show ever! I actually refused to watch the second half of season 2 for years because i didn't want it to end!! Its so comforting and it even inspired me to make a slice of life comic! Although mines not about music and the main character is definitely not a social butterfly like yui xD. I'm only two chapters in rn tho!
If it weren't for k-on I would not have thought of buying an electric guitar though I always wanted to play my favorite songs with it. Now I don't regret spending so much time learning how to play and I'm already pretty good with it.
That's awesome! I ended up getting into the piano, but it's been a very on and off learning process. One of these days I'll have to commit to regular practice
@@Totaraum Yeah, it's not so much that it isn't ANYWHERE, but it used to be on Netflix, Hulu, and Crunchyroll and I could take my pick. I could finish an episode of whatever else and easily swap over to K-On if I felt like it. Not so much these days. Either way, it feels good to finally own a copy.
@@EmmyFluff Definitely. Seems like all the kyoani shows are getting the short end of the stick when it comes to streaming. Good call on getting your own copy
damn the movie and final episode ruined me it really taught me that every little thing we do in our lives can be something special if we decided to see it as such. The music got me into j rock and really expanded my songwriting and playing. The character development and by the end I felt like I was watching my own kids graduate and I broke down crying hard I've yet to be moved like this by any media and I consume alot. This show def gave me a new way to look at life and saved me from being another jaded burnt out worker at the age of 30. K-on is a wonderful thing that everyone deserves Also azusa was a perfect analogy for the viewer. Always knowing what's best for the group but not being able to get it through to them and in the end begging them to stay with ridiculous bargaining. What an excellent show
This is scarify similar to my experience while watching K-ON lol. Great video, you did a great job at conveying your thoughts in a comprehensive way, you’re incredibly underrated. Keep going at it with the great vids!
Ah man, What am I supposed to say about this anime man...?? As you said, the first few episodes made me thinking that what the hell am I watching? Why the hell am I watching? Is this even worth to call a slice of life genre anime? .... But that second season..... Damn, What an anime dude .... PS - I really enjoyed your video 👍❤😘
What Up Daddy O I never knew about this so I looked into it. Apparently the English dub aired on an Australia only sister channel to abc called abc me. It must have been fun to be able to watch the show like it was a normal tv show, thanks for sharing!

I just finished K-On! myself. It was the first (real) anime I’ve ever watched. Until it, I was never really able to get into any anime or relate to the characters, but this show was incredibly special. I started the show not knowing what to expect really. Similar to you, I found myself looking for whatever that over arching plot or storyline was to eventually realize there wasn’t one. I found myself coming home from work everyday ready to watch another couple of episodes and after every single one I just felt relieved and a sense of happiness as if I was hanging out with a group of friends myself. Even when the show inevitably made me emotional to the point of crying, it was always out of happiness, seeing this amazing friendship grow between the girls. K-On! will undoubtably always hold a huge place in my heart as one of my favorite animated shows of all time. Also, amazing video! This video was such great quality I was under the assumption you’re channel was much bigger until I came down here to comment. Keep grinding and you will blow up very soon!
Wow, it's crazy just how similar our experiences were. I finished the show around three months ago, and reading your comment sent all those same feelings of relaxed enjoyment back to me. Thanks for sharing! Also I'm glad you enjoyed it so much, I'll do my best to top it in the future
"How many times are these bitches going to drink tea?" Lmao. I loved in the end where they tried to get testimonials from their classmates and only like 1 in 4 had something nice to say 😁
Definitely, I couldn't have said that better myself!
Ritsu best girl

Herb Master there really is a lot to appreciate with this show. It’s cool to hear you still hold it in such high regard after so long
Watching this show feels like watching a real group of friends, one day they say they are going to do something amazing, but end up goofing around all the time. Laughing at stupid shit, talking normal about everyday thing.
I mean, one of my favorite episodes is about them buying a shelves. Is not about what you do, is about doing this mundane, meaningless things with people your friends. Because they make everything better by just being with you.
Nico Bram couldn’t have said it better myself
We need a season 3 so we can see them play at the bubble bowl

Everyone should watch k-on, really change my way to see the life.
Jomigonga very well said, thank you for writing this and best of luck in high school!

Just finished K-On! and it is the best piece of media I've ever seen. Your analysis is extremely accurate and well put and is very similar to how I felt. Thanks for a great video!
Of course, and thank you for watching it!
The first time i watched K-on it was love at first sight.
I can't say what hasn't been said about K-on, i have so many things to say about it, but i think one thing resumes it perfectly,
"Fun things are fun"
"Please don't graduate"...
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Mio was one of the reasons why I started playing bass because her bass lines in their songs really showed how important the instrument is
K-On! is still my #1 favorite anime.
That’s a great quote. I feel like as time goes by I’m going to appreciate this part of the show more and more
Was requested this show a year or two back from an online friend but didn’t watch it until late December since it was added to Netflix sometime then, and man, haven’t been ever more punched in the face about graduation in season two plus the movie, honestly makes feel a bit sad knowing I’m not graduating along side friends who I haven’t seen in person since 2014 after I moved.
@@Totaraum
Yeah they totally went for some emotional sucker punches in the end. Not just one.
I like how you described your journey through K-on. The thing is...I started the anime because it looked funny and learned actually very important things (maybe even just relearned but then I haven't really thought about the deep messages this anime gave to me that much ever before)
But one thing I really missed in this video was a short analysation of Ui's character and her relationship with Yui.
@@Totaraum

@@Keqingsimp9057 reading comments is one of my favorite things about making videos, so thank you for writing! Also I agree that U&I was a missed opportunity on my part. I’m sure I could’ve found a way to fit it in

But since you need to have an acc to post comments...well yeah
I've theorized that the ending of K-On! is a tax on anime watchers for breathing, that might be what happened
your ending statement just made me cry a lot more :(
I watched the first 3 episodes of K-On in September 2017 and I dropped it after.
Glad to hear it! I’m looking forward to the manga myself
Just completed it a few days ago. Now I am left with a never ending empty feeling. I can't understand how a completely fun anime has left my souls to shreds. I can't shake off the feeling that this might as well be the last anime I watch.
When I went to Japan I knew I needed to buy the figurines. £130 later and still I have no regrets!
Thank you for making this vid. This show changed my life. I have watched enough anime in my 22 years of life and I can proudly say that this is my all-time favorite. Nothing can top K-On......
No problem, and thank you for watching it! I’m glad this show has had such an impact on you
i can't explain how much i love this piece of art. i have rewatched this show for maybe at least 5 times and i cry every single time, because it was so relatable and so unique to the point where i would rank this anime a number 1 in my opinion. when i first started watching it, i was very new to the whole anime stuff, and music was my number 1 thing i was passionate about, so i watched k-on, hoping that they would make epic slappers of soundtracks. and they did, along with the smooth animations and the relatability of the characters which i really am very surprised about. being a high schooler myself, it really hits hard when you know your golden days are running out and soon, you'll be ending up either with your best friends in a good college or pursuing your dreams in a much higher one. and i would pick the first option without any hesitation. and even making silly goals that you know you will never reach while you just sit there, lazing around with your friends, having a great time just chatting and doing dumb things, is so goddamn relatable. it hit me so hard it made me wanna start playing an instrument, so i picked bass, out of the 4 instruments i could choose. maybe mio has played a huge part in it, seeing how relatable she is to me. and maybe her reason why she picked up the bass has stirred up something in my heart that made me really passionate about it.
overall a very spectacular anime and it will forever have a special place in my heart. it made me realize that i should cherish my friendships and just have fun while it lasts. it doesn't really matter about the dreams you have set during the years, it's all about all the meaningless stuff you did with your friends knowing that they make everything better just by being with you.
As someone who's worked with bands and is familiar with band dynamics, I like watching the interplay of the characters and the way they interact.
K-On! is my favorite anime of all time and, like you, when I started watching it I didn't get it or understand why it was so popular.
Tomokocchi
With almost 800 anime watched, its also my favorite anime
I haven't watched K-On, but this video made me want to. Super well made video! Can't wait to see you grow.
Thanks so much! I’m glad you enjoyed it
Love your take on the show exactly how I felt when I watched it
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it
I relate to a lot of things in this video. K-ON! is also one of my first animes.
No show captures that feeling like k-on
Well said, and will do! He's probably seen k-on about 12 times by this point
Very well said, I’m glad this show left such an impression on you. I hope you take care too!
Another time crying while watching one of these kind of videos show that episode 20 scene huh. Thanks, I guess.
Yeah, this is a great video. And what makes it great is the same that makes K-On great. Good job
Thanks! I’m glad you liked it
I've known about K-on ever since 2009 or 2010 when it was the talk of the anime community and I even bought my little sister a K-on poster even though neither of us have watched it.
*spoiler alert
I am just happy that in one of the sequel about Azusa in her final year of high school, her buddies Ui and Jun agreed to join the club and together, they continued the club without Yui, Mio, Ritsu and Mugi.
Yeah, they totally nailed the feel they were going for
Happy to say I’ve proudly added K-On to my pantheon of best anime ever.
I’ve never cried because of a movie or show but at the end of this show that almost changed
so, i started watching k-on! on animax when i was in grade three and bc i was really small and i loved cute stuff, i really got attracted to yui and ended up watching the show every evening when I got back from school. rn im in grade 11th and i feel so old rewatching this again xD. i came across their graduation song (idk what it's called gommenasai), and it sent me into nostalgia mode sm i decided to rewatch the show two days ago. im halfway into s1 and i just wanted to say that this will always be my favourite comfort anime. i feel bad for the people who never watched k on, worse for the people who don't know this show exists, but for the ones who have, im really glad they exist. i was so happy to hear your views on the show and trust me, k on has helped me get happier sm. i love all of the five girls (yui's my favorite heh always). and im so so so happy that such a show exists in the world. this has honestly taught me to look at life differently and I'm so happy to be able to be happy bc of these four drunk girls 🤣😍. i hope more and more people come across k on in the future. thank you sm for making a video on this!!! take love
Thanks for sharing! I’m happy to hear the show has had such a big impact. I’m also glad to hear you enjoyed the video!
It's fascinating that even now 2023 K-On is still around and people talk about it, watch it and relate to it. The show landed in my lap more or less by chance but after the first season I couldn't get the second season quick enough! Then all Christmases arrived at the same time when they released the news that a movie was in the making! *happydance*
Now years later, I've been to Japan, Kyoto and "their" school (Toyosato Elementary School). I turned Akihabara upside down to get my hands on some second hand K-On figurines and the whole band are now standing here on a shelf next to my computer, ready to play me a song. 😁
Your description of your journey along with the girls was great and I recognize it from other comments I've read from other people who just didn't get it at first but then got sucked in.
I haven't seen those yet, I'll give them a look!
@@Totaraum Now I've watched the rest of you yearly K-On videos. Good job there! :D Especially putting together that music list. Oh my... 👍
Perhaps you should make a video about the two concerts next time!?
@@Ebhen1 That could be a good idea, focus on all the stuff k-on has done outside the show maybe?
I am a cold hearted bastard that has lost everyone in my life that ever mattered. This show had me weeping like a little girl. Loved it. Sad it was so short though but at least the movie tied it up nicely.
I’m happy to hear it’s had such a positive impact despite everything
Unfortunately, I've only watched K-on like, two weeks ago, so the hype is mostly gone, but this show surpassed any anime I've watched until today, but, as it was said in the video, the viewer can empathize with the characters, specially at the end, because you can imagine you and your best friends finishing high school and separating from each other.
I just think K-on really show us how we should live every moment like it's the last time it'll happen, and that's why I love it.
Great video! I loved every second of it, specially the jokes. :)
Very well said, and thank you! I'm so glad you liked it
This is my first time watching one of your videos but i can tell you are a under rated UA-camr keep up the good work
Thank you, I will!
This is an underrated video, He isn’t making fun of the show but he isn’t obsessing over the anime
Thanks, I’m glad you think so!
Man the song they did for Asuza was so good like it had me actually crying like a bitch, great analysis video btw! I can't wait to see where your channel goes my guy!
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it, and yeah that song at the end was my favorite part of the show by far
Great essay. I have a deep love for K-On! n you summed up what makes it special to me so well
Thank you! I’m happy to hear that
Happy to hear it! I think everyone should have a show like that
I remember watching this as a kid and crying when it ended
True, I think one of this show’s biggest strengths is the clear vision it had for its story
@@Totaraum I just felt that way, because if you rewatch it again its like your looking at your fun memories. Thats why i want season 3.
@@theguywhoasked-r7e I get where you’re coming from there
leaving the crushing song to end your video,,,
you clever mo.......er :P nice touch!!

The ending of this show is bitter sweet
K on is the only anime ive watched and finished and until i watched this video, i always ask myself why am i soooooo attached to this show and its characters and i'd say everything you put in this video makes sense. How the creators wants us to relate to the characters with their diverse personalities, how the show makes us feel relaxed and just enjoy the show until the end, etc. I'm glad you made this video to help me answer a question i had for quite a while xd
Anyway really great video man keep it up!
Thank you! I’m glad I was able to answer some of your lingering questions. I’ll be sure to keep at it!
K-On is my gateway drug to moeshit but it still stands tall in my list of top shows.. i didnt know the significance of this show to the studio itself and how much of a bet the entire work till i read someones comment on this video. Great work man
Thank you! Happy to hear you liked it
K-ON is a modern masterpiece
came across this anime through osu!, the song kira kira days by htt sounded amazing and i looked for the anime that it came from. sadly kira kira days was never featured in the anime but the introduction of k-on to me was great. the interactions between the characters were heartwarming and azusa being introduced in the later eps completed the anime altogether
It's crazy just how many songs were made that never showed up in the show, it has to be dozens
11 year ago....
That best anime moe forever
Also, for anyone curious, yes, you can binge the show in one day for about 14-15 HOURS
the 1st time i watched K-On, i didnt think much ov it. i found it weird but the show grew on me after a few episodes, now im rewatching it for the 6th time. the last episode made me tear up a lot and made me remember the fun times i had with my friends back in high school. now i have 7 songs from K-On on my metal playlist lol. i frikkin luv this anime
That's just how it goes, I don't think I know anybody who instantly got invested into K-On! You gotta take your time with it. Also I'm sorry but that's no longer a metal playlist lol
thats true, takes time to like it. well, good tunes is good tunes lol
when i started this anime i never in a million years thought it would fuck me up as bad as your lie in april did, like i figured it was the lightest slice of life anime i could have possibly watched, and then they hit me with that ending song... like man... i cried for the first time in months
thank you for this video, you deserve much more attention
No problem, thank you for watching it! And yeah, it really hits you out of nowhere
Every kyoani anime is real gold
It really draws you in with its relaxing atmosphere, doesn’t it? Also I don’t blame you for mistaking the release year lmao
You said it all excellently, man. You put it in great words on why K-On is great tbh
ling ling I’m glad you think so! Thanks for watching
@@Totaraum of course man! K-On is so important to me and I never knew why. This video said it perfectly
God I love this anime
i felt the same thing about it initially, but grew to love it, just like u did.
Happy to hear it!
"After School Tea Time Is Always And Forever."
I still break out into being so emotional watching it over again, laughing with it, crying with it. It's a series that made me who I am today. I couldn't give it a better explanation of How I feel about it because there are no words that could describe the feeling.
I’m glad it’s such a special show to you. Thanks for sharing!
For 5 people to drink 40 tonnes of tea over 3 years they'd have to drink about 10 cups of tea per day which, unfortunately, checks out
I saw the thumbnail and legit thought it was a jojo reference
It does kinda look like that, doesn’t it?

I love k-on so much and I love the end song it gets me every time
This is my favourite show ever! I actually refused to watch the second half of season 2 for years because i didn't want it to end!! Its so comforting and it even inspired me to make a slice of life comic! Although mines not about music and the main character is definitely not a social butterfly like yui xD. I'm only two chapters in rn tho!
that's cool to hear, best of luck on that comic!
the beginning is funny because it shows that they can add any subtitles and we will believe them.
What do you mean? That's taken straight from the show
@@Totaraum oh I must have forgotten
If it weren't for k-on I would not have thought of buying an electric guitar though I always wanted to play my favorite songs with it. Now I don't regret spending so much time learning how to play and I'm already pretty good with it.
That's awesome! I ended up getting into the piano, but it's been a very on and off learning process. One of these days I'll have to commit to regular practice
K-On is my comfort anime. I recently had to get the blu-ray set. I went back for another re-watch and couldn't find any platform streaming it anymore.
Apparently it's on HiDive now, which I've never heard of anyone actually using before
@@Totaraum Yeah, it's not so much that it isn't ANYWHERE, but it used to be on Netflix, Hulu, and Crunchyroll and I could take my pick.

I love K-ON! I live near the K-ONschool in Japan.
That's awesome! It looks like a really nice place from what I've seen
You should watch part 5 its good
damn the movie and final episode ruined me it really taught me that every little thing we do in our lives can be something special if we decided to see it as such. K-on is a wonderful thing that everyone deserves
Also azusa was a perfect analogy for the viewer. Always knowing what's best for the group but not being able to get it through to them and in the end begging them to stay with ridiculous bargaining. What an excellent show
Glad to hear it's been such a helpful show for you. And you're right about Azusa, I never really thought of it that way until now but it's true

What Up Daddy O oh my god that’s a lot... I wasn’t expecting an entertainment schedule for the rest of my life lmao
this damn show still makes me cry every time a clip is even shown of the final (non ova and timeskip back) episode, I don't know why but I just learned to accept it
Edit: You should also try Yuru/Laid Back camp if you want a comfy show with similar vibes and characters
I’ve heard of yuru camp! Might give it a try one day
great video, love seeing this sort of perspective, this show will be and has been my favorite show
Thank you!
As a proud K-ON fan for 3 years I appreciate people posting about it
Of course! And thank you for your 3 years of service
