I had an MRI scan today for my neck, upper, and, lower back. It was the horrible experience of my life. I am mildly claustrophobic but I got panicked as soon as they put me in that machine. I had a headcover on, plus neck restraints. and due to neck restraints, I couldn't put the headphones in. So no music to distract me. I was instructed not to move for at least 45 mins. I felt like I am caged in. My anxiety went through the roof. The radiographer was a nice man who quickly brought me back outside the machine. I felt so dizzy and disoriented after that. It took me half an hr to catch my breath and be normal again. I was then told to go for an open MRI which might help me with my issue.

The one I was in was much tighter than the one in the video. When I opened my eyes it was right in front of my face, like an inch. I was trapped in a super tight space I couldn't get out of and my heart started racing and pounding so hard. I started squeezing the ball about 30 seconds after they put me in. I heard the tech on the earphones ask if I was ok. I yelled "NO NO, GET ME OUT!" LOL. Now I have to go back under anesthesia. The one in the video is wider and has more space between her face and the machine.
It’s so hard to believe that there isn’t a preparation phase on these machines for patients. They just throw everybody in there as if it’s fine for everyone when clearly it isn’t. Why do they waste time and money for folks just to squeeze the ball..the patient should be asked clearly when referred for mri, ‘are you afraid of tight spaces?’ And if the answer is ‘yes’ then the patient should be referred to some other treatment. I had just received a very tough pituitary surgery when 2 days after the procedure they brought me down for an MRI, I was finding it hard to breath through my nose after the surgery then they put the box thing on my head, a completely harrowing and useless waste of time as I obviously pressed the ball thing..it just shows you that mental health and personal wellbeing isn’t considered here and a lot of money is being wasted when a simple discussion before hand would probably go a long way…sympathy to you all who have been through this

awww, I went to get an MRI of my spine today and I did not get those nice options. However, MRI tech was super nice and gave me a warm blanket before going in. It was nice and warm.
I had a Lumbar MRI about two weeks ago, just gave me ear plugs and the button. No choice of music or lighting, or which direction I went in. It was my first ever MRI, so I didn't know what to expect. The tech asked how I was with claustrophobia, and told me it would be very loud. I just laid there with my eyes closed, trying to think about other things to not think about the tube being inches from my face. 15 minutes wasn't bad, glad it wasn't one of the longer ones I've heard about, though.
I noticed you did an MRI lambar spine scan, yet you're looking at the patients brain in your office in this video.. Do MRI lambar spine also include a picture of the brain/skull and if so why is that? Pls respond? Tha ks so much
Had mine Wednesday for my spine, had noise cancelling headphones which for me personally didn’t work, as I was nervous anyways so all my senses were almost amplified, the actual MRI itself wasn’t bad at all, it was just the noise for me personally that made me more anxious, mine only lasted 20 minutes, but I found closing my eyes and just focusing on keeping myself still and keeping my breathing under control helpful, they give you a buzzer also that you can push at anytime if you need a break
Some places allow music to be played through MRI safe headphones they give but mine unfortunately didn’t have that so I did just have to listen to the noise
DID THEY LOOK AT YOUR BRAIN TOO? im confused why this is called an MRI lambar spine if the lady in this video is looking at the brain on her screen. @iiiq_katie5473
Don't believe all that is said here. Mostly how fast is goes, Mine last usually 30-45 minutes. They did not mention that you have to remain motionless for the entire time. The noises played are typical but there's also a loud drumming and another sound that is very similar to a jackhammer. I think the main reason they give you earphones is not to hear music (that's impossible) but to try to drown out the awful noise and protect your eardrums. Not all MRIs are like this one if you're having some upper spine or head MRIs they place a Hannibal Lechter mask over your face to make sure you done move one muscle. And if you just have to move, or sneeze or cough they start the whole test over again.
It also depends on how fancy or new the equipment and facility is. Even MRI I have had over the decades was done in older machines. They just give you standard ear plugs to put in. The tunnel is very small like being put into a casket...and for sure no mood lighting like in this video.

They should give you a form before hand to fill out, and it tells you to tick the stuff you do have, e.g. plates and screws, metal implants etc! If you do, I’m sure they would figure out a way to MRI you without them going into the machine, as an MRI machine is basically a big magnet, as long as your plates and screws aren’t magnetic you should be fine, I forgot to take my rings off during my mri not to long ago because I was so anxious I forgot I had them on, and thank god they weren’t magnetic, otherwise it wouldn’t have ended well I don’t think 💀
The best thing you can do is have your doctor prescribe you an oral sedative. It's usually half a mg of xanax before you leave the house, and another half when you arrive for an appointment. (DO NOT DRIVE...someone will have to drive you there and back home). It wears off after a few hours, and an MRI is a piece of cake if you are claustrophobic. I hope this helps anyone who is dreading an MRI.
You better get the cd, here radiologists usually write a report about your mri scan, also some radiologists even send voice messages with the images when he is examing the parts of your body , of course it would be super if your doctor is capable of reading mri scan too , this will give him the chance to check if the radiologist misses smt. Man all the MRI rooms in California are old and dingy, similarly with the machines. Similarly no option for music to mask the sound or fancy color lights.
Its me again , hi all well having full spine mri soon not loomjng forward to it again. Does anyone know if i can go in feet first they keep making me go in head first? Or is it because my mri is for spine so they cant let me go feet first, Or will going in head first make me panick more because my head will be out of the mri just abit not fully. 😊
I think the leg propping affects the results. It's not a natural position you would lie/sleep in normally, it seems to be masking the problem area. I wanted the test to accurately locate & identify the source of all the pain. I was forced to still use one yesterday and I'm not happy about that. It should have been my choice. Yes, it would have been more painful for me but that's the entire point of the expensive MRI. No results yet but I'm very concerned. The nurse/tech also brought in my jacket with cellphone/ keys etc... I told her immediately to leave outside to the and she said "oh no, it's perfectly fine" which is completely opposite of the instructions I was previously given. I already want a do over at another facility but I'm sure the insurance won't approve a second one.
The leg pooping doesn’t affect anything. Mri can see so finely even stuff that occurred many many years ago . it shows everything regardless of position and a trained person can easily interpret it based on your positions
The wedge has nothing to do with masking the area, it’s to make you more comfortable during your exam which also keeps you still. The jacket was fine as long as it didn’t get too close to the bore “tube”.
@@TheChatterRoom1 I am too, as I can't stand silence and have 2 fans running in my room every night. Can't sleep without them. But the noises coming from that machine seem particularly loud. I'm going for an MRI on the 22nd, which is why I checked out this video, to get an idea of what to expect.

I pray to God that I never have to go in a close mri because I'm very Claustrophobic I won't last in there one minute lord Jesus. that poor girl I pray for her health
I had one scheduled a few weeks ago , but started freaking out so they took me back out immediately. I had to go to another hospital with an open MRI machine. Apparently I am claustrophobic and didn't know it. I couldn't wait to get out of the machine and was dizzy and sweating for a while after. This was one of the worst experience I've ever had .
If radiologists really believe gadolinium contrast in the body is safe. Send out the disclaimer documents along with the full name of the contrast weeks prior to the procedure, so patients can make an informed decision at their leisure, as opposed to 5 mins before the procedure. which is absolutely ridiculous. Im guessing most radiologists know of chelated gadolinium risks and would not have it injected in them selves.
The machine is big enough for one to feel comfortable, and you could see both ends of the machine and notice that it's not that lengthy. Even if the fear is there, let it be, my advice is to let whatever comes into surface, without resistance , or forcing to feel good, you will naturally feel good, your body is intelligent enough to self regulate itself. Always remember the internal strength that each and every one of you has. We are powerful beyond measure, beyond measure 🤍 and through such experience, we are then able to truly feel our strength and resilience

@Hera_Jane if they haven't found anything and you are still in pain, tell them to xray your hips, and also order injections to the SI joints. The si joints can cause issues with the way they function (and this cannot be seen on xrays or mri scans so in appearance they will look normal but can give you absolute pain clear down your legs) a pain doctor can iniect lidocaine into them and if it's them, the pain will stop immediately. I’m asking for Xanax before taking mine , I have terrible anxiety, and Claustrophobia
Xanax won't cut it for me! I'm getting anesthesia because I panicked.

Man all the MRI rooms in California are old and dingy, similarly with the machines. Similarly no option for music to mask the sound or fancy color lights.
My uncle had an mri for his leg in 2022.My uncle's bike fell into his leg and got stuck between the exhaust
I have done my MRI today, for the first time. I don't know the experience yet.
I had an MRI yestorday I really liked it tho but when I got an IV it really hurt
It was super comfy for me I fell asleep
How could you sleep with all that noise???
@@Linda7647 I’m used to white noise playing when I sleep that’s why lol
@@TheChatterRoom1 I am too, as I can't stand silence and have 2 fans running in my room every night. Can't sleep without them. But the noises coming from that machine seem particularly loud. I'm going for an MRI on the 22nd, which is why I checked out this video, to get an idea of what to expect.
@@Linda7647 it was relaxing to me lol . Felt like I was inside my mothers womb
@@TheChatterRoom1 I'm hoping it's relaxing for me as well. However, just in case, I'm taking an Ativan beforehand.
How long does it take.

I just had one today, worst experience ever! It was so noisy it gave me a headache all day long ☹️
I hope you feel better and I pray to God you never get to have a brain MRI , that one is even worse; they make you wear a mask that makes you feel suffocated.

I'm surching surpot I'm sick mild lumbar spondylosis
If radiologists really believe gadolinium contrast in the body is safe. Send out the disclaimer documents along with the full name of the contrast weeks prior to the procedure, so patients can make an informed decision at their leisure, as opposed to 5 mins before the procedure. which is absolutely ridiculous. Im guessing most radiologists know of chelated gadolinium risks and would not have it injected in them selves.
I got no injection?
Did you go to this?

The machine is big enough for one to feel comfortable, and you could see both ends of the machine and notice that it's not that lengthy. Even if the fear is there, let it be, my advice is to let whatever comes into surface, without resistance , or forcing to feel good, you will naturally feel good, your body is intelligent enough to self regulate itself. Always remember the internal strength that each and every one of you has. We are powerful beyond measure, beyond measure 🤍 and through such experience, we are then able to truly feel our strength and resilience
I will gonna undergoing MRI in 4 months... Finally after 7 years of extreme low back pain🥲
What did they find?
@@rumblersgear3369 Nothing. I had to do it once again in September this year... Sigh... 1st time it was lumbar part of spine and they found nothing... Weeks later the doctor told me to do it again but for thoracolumbar part of spine...😮💨 I'm tired already enduring this much pain...
AND a cord compression in the neck can cause symptoms anywhere including lower back and legs.
I was blessed with one back surgrry, a hip implant and looking at SI joint fusions. Fun!!
@@rumblersgear3369 I could do nothing still gonna have to wait for my next scan upcoming this September... I think the previous one was miscanned causing no result appeared... Though the x-ray shows almost severe scoliosis... Let's just wait and see...😮💨
