Better than the oil-burning 2.5 Transit [no turbo] I escaped to Portugal in in 2011 with my Buell Ulysses in the back along with all my possessions - books, albums etc. Nick
Looks a great addition to the business and will add a level of professionalism to the tours. Always interested to hear whats going on at the Speedshop. Cheers.
When me and the X Mrs went to Iceland in 2006 we hired a Toyota Corrola and we did a few of the F roads. She was pregnant with my now eldest son which really spoiled my fun (of driving, you understand 🤣). She continues to spoil my fun in many other areas but that's something I believe karma will have its say. Iceland is an amazing place and I will return, but next time it will be on 2 wheels. Looking forward to seeing what happens on this trip Nathan.
I think with the responsibility you have to your riders having the backup boogie bus is going to give the riders and your team a lot more confidence. I would be pleased to know there was a boogie bus bringing up the rear.
Went to Iceland in 1986 on a canoe expedition. We had 2 vans, the headlights fell out of one and a chassis member sheared on the transit. Cheap repair though unbelievably. Take a farm jack a most useful tool. We came up with our own road classification as well, Ping, Clunk and BANG!!!
"Should an adventure have a backup van?" Well, I think that depends entirely on the adventure! You and a mate taking a trip somewhere, where you know each others limits and capabilities and take the risks in that knowledge? Probably not. For what you do, with riders who're potentially there precisely because they're maybe not 100% confident with their limits and want the experience and support, then yeah, I'd say it's a great shout...hopefully never used 'in anger', but definitely good to have.
Van looks perfect for the job. Not too sure that you'll need the fridge in Iceland, though, unless you want to warm something up. And, you've revealed another skill to me - baking cakes - who would have thought. So you're not just a bacon butty chef. 🤣
Nathan, nothing to do with your new van. I've ordered a Scrambler 400X. I asked the salesman how they lifted the bike to remove a wheel - he said the mechanics used a scissor lift under the bike. But the exhaust runs under the bike. Have you lifted your scrambler on a scissor lift? Thanks.
Brill video Nathan an some great points on Iceland :) I agree anything that increases saftey is always good in my book n I always think with adventure everything counts just many different ways of doing it :) sure you will all have an amazing trip. Propper bit of kit to.
That looks like a great van and an excellent responsible approach. Don't know what tyres are on your van at the moment, and realise you've done some testing on the lanes and say Iceland isn't that extreme, but if you do need to change them out I've seen Michelin Aglis on these and apparently they work well.
for what it's worth - for over twenty year I was the White Van champion (up the inside of an Beemer M5 one morning) and my every time go to was Goodyear G26. Especially as I did a lot of muddy lanes work. Economical - great feedback through the wheel and around 22.000 fully loaded hard miles. Continental Van -- shredded in 5.600miles. Ultimate grip - BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 - but no way I would think you'd need those with 4x4 and they'll kill your mpg. Good luck!
Nathan just a quick one have you ever heard of a valve snapping on the 411 himmy. ? I know your very well clued up on that bike. Just watched montysmoto adventures blogger on UA-cam an it happened to him while filming??looked dangerous. Not to confident to buy one now
Hi Nathan, I live in Iceland. Drop me a line if you need any input or assistance regarding the trip. I have been riding for 30 years, only a year ago stopped riding 1200cc bikes and now ride 660cc Yamaha. Take it easy mush. G
Hey Geir. Thanks for the message. Yeah that'd be great. We're heading over 4th July for a fortnight. Doing a clockwise lap of the island and dipping in and out of the F roads along the way.
I thought you'd been possessed by the spirit of Guy Martin for a minute there! Maybe your normally fluid oratory was disturbed by talking about a VAN! Get back to 2-wheeled middleweights! 😂
Having thrashed across a reasonable percentage of Iceland in a 2.0l automatic estate car - I wholeheartedly disagree. Everyone who doesn't understand vehicle dynamics 'think' they need a 4x4 but it's simply not true. Just look at footage of vehicles on The Pamir highway - and see all the 4x2's doing fine.. @@humourless682

That is a good selling point for your tours. The oven to heat Fray Bentos pies means you can also sideline on some fast food sales. Bonus!
Can't beat a Bentos!
Steak & Kidney with peas, please.
Ooh, freshly baked cakes, that's my kind of trip.
Looks a great addition to the business and will add a level of professionalism to the tours.

That's a bloody brilliant bit of kit, perfect for the job 👍 All the best with it

Great stuff , I have run contracts of my own away from home in structural industrial steel , the welfare 4 w d drive vans are an absolute winner
Cheers Chris. Good to hear!
Good plan with the van. Sounds like a cool trip
Perfect tool for the job. Iceland is phenomenal. MEGA Expensive, but magical.

Mmm the smell of freshly baked bread as you drive along, just a thought.
Always good to have a back up plan...

Fantastic and very functional addition to the fleet:)
Spot on , looks a tidy van.... going to have to get on one of your tours at some point .
Brilliant Nathan. Good choice!

Fresh baked cakes & pastries!! Where do I sign up?! 😂
You lucked out finding a van with all those accessories, super!

Phenomenon just the job
Like the van!

Best of luck! Stay away from Grindavik, be aware of the volcanic situation over there.
Cool Van

Good move Nathan. Advanced first aid course?... Millwall the Medic😬.
Tricky if you are a bit squeemish.

Great idea did you add the stuff in the van or did it come with it safe journey take care 👍
All came in it
You’re running a business… got to look after the customer! It’s not like one person on their own, is it? Hope all goes well then. Les
If you need a driver for that I am available 👍
Seriously.
Cheers Bod. Thanks for the offer. I currently have a mate Steve in the hot seat but if he goes AWOL I'll give you a shout.
You know they do home delivery now?
👍🏻
Ex-ambulance?
In the US, ambulances have similar interiors and are easier conversions.
It's a welfare van - as Nathan said. Built specifically for the welfare of work gangs on railways and powerlines etc etc
Where do the bikes ship from in the UK?
Immingham
@@nathanthepostman thanks, heard you say that but wasn't sure where or what.
No worries Ben. It's with a company called Eimskip who ship direct to Iceland@@stillben
Transit is a VERY bad choice for a trip like that! Good luck, make sure you have a good recovery service.............................lol
Not many Awd options
It should last longer than a KTM bike anyway 😂
@@nathanthepostman True. But surely a Landcruiser with a well-equipped enclosed trailer, would be a far better choice that a Transit?
It's another option for sure and maybe better in some ways but I'm happy with this option. @@humourless682

Good idea and a handy bit of kit, great to have a backup, just in case.
