I'm a die hard AB supporter but man I loved it when Bakkies was on the field....always knew we'd be in for a physical engagement. Legend! 😃👌
As brutal as it is, this is one of the best highlight reels. The fact he smashed a few scrum halves (half back to you?) should earn him a small bit of forgiveness.
Bakkies was one of the few players we as All Black fans feared. He was a monster of a man and deserved his Hard Man title. I'd also like to thank him for helping us win at least 2 games from his penalties 😂

In Toulon, when the players passed in the audience before entering the stadium, we saw Bakkies at 100m! There was a crowd and this giant surpassed everyone by a head ... French Fan ✌
I'm american with Aussie and British family so I understand rugby. I played American football my whole life. After watching some of these highlights over the past few days of badass rugby players, I'm astonished at how tough these guys are. I said this on another video but I always used to say that you can't play american football without pads and helmets because it's a different type of game. If the rugby players used to wear pads...I'd say the same thing. The other thing I've always loved about these sports is that it's worldly. Not just americans. You get to see the baddest Frenchmen against the baddest "Saffers." A term I just learned. You get to see the All Blacks against the Aussies or the English against the Irish. All these people have all different types of big men and athletes and both.

Awesome "level headed" view of the two, (-assumig you follow the NFL) I have been a big Football fan since the Tomlinson, Urlacher and Shockey days (NO not NY era, still get goosebumps when watching highlights from his rookie season with them though, that dude was HARD) and I love your take on rugby being wordly. I have at times wondered how Linebackers would do if they HAD TO use their arms. Mind you, they can obviously "wrap 'em up" and #52's are known for crunching spears (Willis and Lewis for example) but football is such a fast game that I don't think they'd have enough time to position themselves accordingly, that's why these H2H calls in the past 2 seasons or so have been absolute downers. True say on the padding, some people play well into the "club level" without pads whereas Football teams enforce the gear from the jump.In Football's defense, blocking is a facet that adds so much extra "spice" to the argument, I'll have to give that to them a point or two for that ;). Sure, you can say the same about rucking which takes place after pretty much every tackle and front rowers can injure their necks while scrumming, not taking anything away from that side either, but if rugby had special teams play or legal blocking, sjoe xD, I donno if pads would still be an option lol. I hope I haven't said a lot of "nothing" here, just got really excited by the great comment you shared. This is what makes organised sports so dope, the mutual appreciation! I appreciate the frustration and obviously it should have been a green penalty, but to do that is just overly dirty and brings the game into disrepute.

Coming from an AB supporter this guy was awesome to watch. All the hard man qualities you'd expect from a South African forward. Except for a stupid headbutt on Jimmy Cowen he wasn't a dirty player and definitely no thug - just the enforcer intimidator type that you expect at the highest level. He used to get penalized for tackling too hard and even got sent off one time for that as well which was utter nonsense.
Great video got goosebumps watching one of my favourite players in SA.💪💪

Not true. As someone who's trained as a sprinter for years I can tell you it's a lot more specific and speed is DEFINITELY trainable. Genetics comes into play when you've trained just as hard and smart as other pros but need an edge. Anyone can squat heavy till they have tanks for legs, this doesn't mean you'll be fast. Speed is about being able to apply force to the ground (power) within a very short time frame (rate of impulse). Keyword being short time frame.
Lifting heavy weights improves force production but decreases rate of impulse thus making you slower. Activities like reactive plyo and sprinting itself improve the rate of impulse, so you need a correct balance of both activities to become faster.
There's also the extremely important aspect of biomechanics (are your muscles in balance to the point that your body is moving as efficiently as it can).
Bakkies is faster than most guys his size because he trains properly.
That's what illegal substances will do.
