  • The 1995 Kilburn (Monument) Slide
    This slide is best described by climber, author, photographer, and slide expert, Kevin B. MacKenzie
    "The Monument Slide (aka Kilburn Slide or Rose Colored Glasses), triggered in October of 1995, follows a track beginning on the northwestern shoulder Kilburn Mountain in the Sentinel Range Wilderness. The slide is a fine example of a beautiful hike with interesting geological features and combines pitches of variable difficulty. Alternate routes around the steeper pitches are easy to find. It is one of the most accessible slides in the area with an overall trek from Monument Falls on Route 86 to the slide base at about 1.25 miles with modest elevation gain. The longest portion of the approach traces the historic Old Iron Road created by Archibald McIntyre in 1814. "

    Any chance for a female companion on a future hike? Recently it's mostly been dudes. Not that I would stop watching. You're the best youtube hiking channel by a long shot! 😊

      I really have no clue who anyone is on my UA-cam channel commenting. I have no clue who you are or what you’re capable of. If you want to be added on a hike, you’re gonna have to be a little more personal with me on an app where I could see who you are.

    That slide has grown in a lot since I last did it! But (most of) the rock appears grippy.

      Just the rock on the top head wall. Everywhere else was some of the most slippery rock I’ve ever experienced on 42 slides that I’ve done.
      Edit: I did seven slides on Whiteface this past Saturday and a few of them were pretty sketchy as well so 😂

    You would think all the rock on the ADK slides would be the same. Maybe it's the direction the slide faces relative to the sun?

    Is that heart lake down there? Oh oh be careful going down😱

      Heart lake is nowhere near there. And the bushwhack down the opposite side of the mountain was pretty intense.

    Have you already done the two slides on GRACE (Zipper and Great Slide)? . . . . . . I hike GRACE in from the Bouquet often and like the Great Slide best, the Zipper Slide is fun for its steepness and length, but unfortunately the open slide part ends short of the ridgeline in that infamous ADK cripplebrush.

      I have Grace scheduled for next summer. We want to do it on a day where we can go swim in that beautiful brook heading up towards the Beckhorn.

      @@BrianHikesAllDay Let me know, I do that hike up the Bouquet from Rt. 73 all the time and usually swim (clean up) in the "Shoebox Swimming Hole" about 1 mile from Rt. 73 on the way out. Literally, I have done GRACE via that herd path from Rt. 73 about 200 times and the Great Slide at least 50 times and the Zipper Slide 5 times. FYI a dry period is key as some of that infamous "red slime" (ala ALLEN) is present on both slides and very slippery when wet.

    Your a wild man
    I want to climb
    Is there a lottery
    Or do I have to qualify?

    • @BrianHikesAllDay
      @BrianHikesAllDay  8 годин тому

      In all honesty, you have to qualify unless I’m doing a beginner kind of slide. All the crazy technical slides that I pretty much want you to do the Eagle Slide before i even think about adding you to a steep technical slide. I more or less need to know that you’re capable of steep technical terrain and not gonna have a bug out or a freak out mid hike and cause a dangerous situation for me and you.

      Also, I hate group hikes and like to keep them very small so as long as I’m hiking with my buddies, I’m really not looking to add anyone else. Especially with filming them. It gets kind of annoying having all these different people there. I like to keep it small and simple. I’ve never been a big fan of group. One or two other people on a hike is really all I ever want to be in.

    • @BrianHikesAllDay
      @BrianHikesAllDay  8 годин тому

      And yeah, it pretty much is a lottery bro. There are days where I don’t have any of my buddies available and I will post on my story asking for a buddy and it’s first come first serve because as soon as someone says they’re in I delete my story post because again I don’t like groups. You just gotta keep an eye on my Instagram stories and hope for the lottery. 🤣🤣

    You have to be put through a rigorous test to prove yourself! You will be flogged and branded to prove you can handle challenges and adversity! There may be blood shed?
