I must say I was very sceptical when it was in the news here in the Netherlands. Their parents lost custody, but after seeing the movie it changed my perception.
Thanks for what you did back in those days. It was so hard to explain your motivation to the colleagues and friends who were so mentally landlocked. It helped me to focus on what I wanted in life. Now I am a live aboard and self employed so I can work in winter and sail in summer. Thanks for opening eyes. not only of kids and youth, but also of this 51 year old :-)
Just getting around to seeing this! Thank you for sharing. Amazing to watch someone single hand a boat like this and on a trip like this. Then you realize the reality that the captain is a 15-16 year old. GREAT job!!!
The level of respect I have for this woman. I can barely stand in the shore with out falling and almost dying but she was on the edge of death and still lived. Hero 🫶🫶🫶
I wish I had just a fraction of her bravery and dedication! Most wonderful and inspiring journey I ever head goes to ya! You are amazing go chase your dreams!
It is proud that a girl of your age makes such a trip.Obviously you know very well what you have to do. Congratulations to those who raised you.It is necessary to congratulate your family who supported you.Great captain god bless you.
So calm riding huge swell, in strong winds. Alone! Wow! I have 2 young daughters and I hope to I instill them with as much confidence as you have. Impressive.
The authorities in the Netherlands were so stupid and shortsighted. They could have had a bona fide hero that would make the Netherlands known for something. Instead they ran this beautiful brilliant woman back to New Zealand because they caused her so much hardship, trauma they should be ashamed of themselves. But in the end it only made her stronger and she is still making a huge impact on young people's lives!
Prachtig....So telling, the unity of Laura with her "Guppy" and the ocean.."Guppy" keeps on sailing in my memories as well..Uitstekende video reportage...
Thank you so much for that! Maidentrip for me will be forever the most beautiful sailing documentation ever made. It's so nice to see more of the raw material, for me it was very interesting and a bit funny, on many clips, there is music in the background;-) You are an inspiration for me and all my sailor friends, and I wish you will soon finish your new ship.
I remember watching this documentary sometime after it came out. I can't say I was inspired because all inspiration in the world couldn't get me to make a trip like that let alone succeed completing it, but I have a lot of admiration for Laura Dekker.
Thanks again Laura ! I keep watching your early videos and enjoying your positive attitude ! Cheers ! Was watching Guppy 2 just now; that boat can really move with all sails !
Hi Laura! Congratulations to your round the world sailing tour! I had to write a discussion at school about, whether you should or should not go and make real your dreams. I am really fascinated about what you have done! The best wishes for the future, from your friends and family the Germans!!!
I could smell the salty sea air watching this doc. I've been out in the Pacific but never quite like this. I'm back to watch here having seen this in full on my provided channel. love this! love her story along with her love of sailing. Its so freeing out on the ocean. being inside a building on land feels claustrophobic after sailing, right?
Super hero…we love you Laura Inspirational, incredible your a incredible sailor and and a wonderful person . Sv Connoisseur dx 443 Fremantle west Australia 🇦🇺
i so much enjoy watching your videos. i am a land lubber who started watching sailing videos a while back because i thought it was so interesting. then i switched to another set of videos because those people were doing a lot of drinking. i went through two more sets of videos looking for more life and less drinking. THEN i found You. :) lots of adventure, lots of sailing, lots of honest life and no drinking of alcohol being thrown in my face. thanks for being so honest and cheery in your sharing of your experiences. i think i have watched them all and am now re-watching them.
Just before discovering this video, I abandoned a boring video that was mostly bikini shots, drinking, and something about sailing. This was so much better. What an amazing young lady.
Very good footage and well put together. You deserve a medal for showing what can be done with encouragement I stead of what we have now in most societies being told NO. Well done
Truly inspiring! Hope I can do this in the future as I plan to be the first Filipino world circumnavigation by a sailboat non-stop, unaided. Hope you can help me...
Incredible, the idea of sailing in the middle of ocean with nothing but all water all alone for days is so weird to me, i can't believe that you managed to do this at such a young age, congrats.
My daughter is turning 12 this year and I bought your book and am encouraging her to read it and learn from your example. I thought this concept of such a young person sailing solo round the world was incredibly irresponsible until I saw one of your presentations. Maybe it is more irresponsible for parents to hold their children back from the audacity of youthful dreams. Congratulations and I look forward to seeing where the winds take you!
It's really fun to just go fast, feel the wind in your face, see the prow splitting the waves. And just loving something doesn't mean you want to spend all your life on one project; architects love architecture, but design many buildings rather than spending years/decades on one.
Thanks for uploading your video, I’d watched your video 4 months ago, but not quite this journey.. im your big enthusiasts... very brave woman I’ve ever seen..
you are awesome Laura Dekker. I'm in love with you. You are such a brave, smart and beautiful young woman that inspires the world! I would do anything for just a cup of coffee and some bread with you. You fucking rock!
Was it lonely for u beeing out there all alone for soo long? I loved the footage. One can really feel the power of the nature and the joy of using it to get from one place to another. Best regards from Slovenia.
Wow 2010 - 2012. People were waiting for the end of world in those years. I think u just travelled around the world and made sure it's not the case. :P. It's a great achievement. Also must me a great feeling for you congrats.
Blijft prachtig om naar te kijken, en heerlijk te weten dat mensen als jij echt bestaan...geeft hoop voor de wereld waarin we leven...Nastreven van een droom en je niet van de wijs laten brengen...waaw...
Thanks for sharing your sailing story. I haven’t sailed yet but was wondering if you anchor at nighttime to sleep or do you sleep and keep sailing with autopilot on?
She had a windvane autosteering system that keeps the boat on her wind coarse. No electricity needed. So she can sail day and night and only has to be on the lookout for other traffic. I even doubt that she would had enough anchor chain to reach the ocean floor.
@@michiellombaers3198 Like shipomatic it's called right? Yes you can't anchor in the ocean it's way too deep! Some other sailors use AIS (so the bigger ships can see you on their screens) and radar too - I dunno if she did! What I read is a bit of worry in busy lanes is if you hit a floating shipping container!
@@nks487 In the middle of the ocean there are hardly any shipping lanes. Those are normally assigned in busy coastal waters and straights. There are actually many manufacturers of windvan steering systems like North Cape or Mr. Vee.
@@michiellombaers3198 Thanks! I had only heard of the shipomatic one! I only got interested in sailing like a month ago haha! Yup, I know it's mostly no worries about the big ships when you get out their lanes.
Read your book a while ago and been trying since then to buy / rent MAIDENTRIP. It happens that I’ve found streaming for outside the EU only. Please advise where and when it might be available. Thanks!
Because I sailed around the world to see places and get to know new cultures. I wanted to get to know the Cape Verde, it's culture and people, so I sailed there :)
i do not have internet at home, so i must go to the library in order to watch the videos that she has posted herself. so, at home i watch the DVD MaidenTrip because i enjoy and appreciate her persona and character. MaidenTrip concentrates more on Laura than the actual adventure of sailing which was a disappointment for Laura according to her public comments. however, i have learned so much more about her because of their focus when making and editing the DVD. thus, that aspect of the DVD i personally like because i doubt i will have the opportunity some day to spend a quiet afternoon getting to know her. yet, because i have watched the DVD a number of times, i can now notice that they took liberty to mix and match her comments to filming sequences out of their actual order in order to fit the story they were trying to craft with the DVD. i am not sure why they had to do that. watching this video of hers made it real obvious to me that they were doing that.
I wonder how many people can appreciate just how amazing this person is

Молодец девчонка.
All the best laura....i wish i can do the same, sailing the world
Why going from the Canaries to St. Martin via Cape Verde? It's some 700 km extra.
Because I sailed around the world to see places and get to know new cultures. I wanted to get to know the Cape Verde, it's culture and people, so I sailed there :)
Laura Dekker is the youngest to sail around the world with stop's. Jessica Watson is the youngest to sail around the world non stop/without stop's.
