  • When Jessica Watson sailed back into Sydney Harbour in 2010 after completing her solo non-stop voyage around the world, she was still only 16 years old. But the huge public attention her feat attracted would change her life forever.
Not entirely comfortable with fame, Jessica worked hard to create a normal life away from the spotlight and built a new career as a management consultant.
Meeting her partner Cameron while sailing the Sydney to Hobart yacht race meant she was no longer travelling solo and the couple built a life together in Melbourne.
But in 2021 tragedy struck and Jessica had to negotiate her grief by drawing on some of the lessons learned during her epic voyage.

Amazing woman, so many people underestimate the mental strength it takes to spend so many month alone in a tiny boat that requires constant TLC (or you will die) and oceans that have killed many thousand in the past in the locations where she sailed. Huge respect and kudos to Jessica!

I was on the shore of Sydney Harbour the day Jessica made her triumphant return. I have to say it was very moving that day. I'm very pleased that her amazing conquest is returning to the public eye, I'm also impressed at Jessica's achievements since the record breaking journey, particularly that she's turning it into a positive light from her partner's sad passing.
My sincere condolences and my heartfelt admiration of your great spirit.

I like the way she shows the world that you don't need to be special. Doing the impossible, it just takes an ordinary person willing to do extrordinary things.

What a truly amazing inspirational beautiful young lady. I am an 80 (something seafarer) openly admitting that I am sat here in floods of tears (must be the onions). I was awe inspired by the film but this interview is so intimate and personal. I have sailed through these oceans in much larger steel hulled vessels and I was petrified - how you did this leaves me in absolute awe. You should accept your prime ministers accolade Jess - YOU ARE A HERO. Thank you for bringing so much hope to me in my last days. God Bless

Just wow. I remember following her trip back then, such a crazy story. If it were happening now in the age of Tiktok and satellite TV she would be a known the world over. Such an inspiration. And to have had to suffer such tragic loss at such a young age, just heartbreaking. She's lived more by 29, both highs and lows, than most of us will experience in a lifetime, and her ability to bounce back and persevere is something for all to aspire to.

Character is not defined by the good moments in our lives, but by how we face the challenges, how we overcome them. You've had it easy in some ways, having a good life. You've also had tremendous grief, utter heartbreak, and challenges on the open water that others cannot comprehend. You have faced fear so profound that it wrenches your soul and came out the other side. This shows the true character of a strong, healthy woman. That you continue to find joy, pursue dreams (even getting an MBA along the way!) and allowing yourself to feel excitement and happiness in the same breathe with fear, loneliness and sorrow, is to be admired and respected. Not many people have achieved what you have in your life path. Your character, your soul, has many facets, creating a diamond that sparkles in the light.

This young lady inspires me so much. What an amazing thing she accomplished because even though she was obviously scared, she felt the fear and accomplished her dreams anyways. She didn't listen to the naysayers. "You've just got to have a dream, believe in it and work hard", she said. Most adults aren't that wise!

I’m Sunny Coast woman with sailing ties back to club, I recall seeing Jessica a few times, always mindful not to glare and make her feel uncomfortable, as I knew she was a private person!
Very sorry to hear about her partner, Strokes aren’t uncommon currently in young men, as a side effect to the latest experiment conducted on our population. Tragic either way. Well done Jess, Our Country needs reminders of our exceptional Australians, pls don’t allow Corporations to exploit you! ❤

Very sad. I checked the time line when it was mentioned that her partner died 18 months before this video was made - the medicalization started in early 2021 - we can never know for sure if there is a cause and effect but I am 62 years old and never in my life have I ever seen so many young health athletes develop heart issues. I followed football (soccer) for over 50 years and I can remember 2 or 3 on field player collapses until recently, now there a few every month. Thanks for saying what people are afraid to say.

    • @sunnyseacat6857
      @sunnyseacat6857 11 місяців тому

@@hanumanguy : Tis true - the contents of the "jab" are poisonous; some received a placebo, hundreds of millions, if not billions, received life-altering poison.
People chose to get jabbed! Effects of the jab will be different for different people: some may have heart attacks, strokes, memory loss, sores, tremblings, one side of their face drooping, etc.
Everyone beware of any more jabs of any kind. Word in the USA is that various foods, ie. lettuce and pigs, are being injected with these jab poisons.
All the best to everyone everywhere. Fulfill your dreams, no matter what they are, ie, having a lovely garden, learning to sail, starting a small business, knitting, meeting fellow dog walkers - it does not matter. Jessica shines because she was not afraid to dream and actively pursue that dream. Cheers from America.

I accidentally brought out my childhood diary, and found out about her. At that time in our country, the internet was not available. So back then i used to write down about her journey reading in the newspaper. It brought me back to my childhood, i still remember those days. Then I searched for her name on UA-cam and found her. It's like seeing the girl of those stories in person.

Say what you want this this girl but its still pretty remarkable to face the open ocean on your own in a small boat sailing the world at any age than alone a 16 year old girl, the ocean doesn’t care how wealthy you are, how much skill you have, how fearless you are, it can be scary and it can take you down so I applaud her for not giving up and going for it regardless what they outcome would’ve been cause this was her dream she wanted to achieve and for her parents for believing in her and letting her do this cause we all know had it not gone well this would not have gone well for them either but it all went in her favor and she returned home safe and sound with this amazing achievement under her belt
