I was in Hollywood back in the day, Derringer was playing at the Starwood but I had no dough. Yet he was good enough that I spent the evening leaning against the wall and enjoying Rick's performance.

I c it like this. So kids play baseball, throw footballs etc. And they learn the feeling of competition. Derringer grew up playing guitar and was always a competetor. For him competition against other guitarists of his day was just what he did. He wanted to smoke them all. If you wanted to share the stage with him you had better know how to play your ass off and and move it as well.

You can say that again!! Becoming a famous musician means nothing in the realm of things, and I'm pretty sure that Rick will tell you the same thing. All these things will pass, and in reality, mean nothing The absolute most important thing is surrendering your "self" to Christ through his death on Calvary, and admitting your a sinner and lost without him. God bless you Rick Derringer!

Rick Derringer is in fact a "stage name." He is Rick Zehringer of Union City, IN. Before they were The McCoys, they were Rick and the Raiders. Before that, in high school, they played our sock hops as The Rick Z Combo. Returned to his 20th year class reunion, but couldn't make the 45th (last month) because he is touring with Ringo Starr and others. My wife helped him through High School English class. Must have been practicing and neglected his home work. :-)

That's experience speaking. As an artist and realist painter, I completely understand Rick's point of view and perspective. Well said Rick Derringer.

Thanks for this. Rick seems like such a kind, sensible guy. In addition to being a wicked rock'n'roller.

Many people did say he was an asshole in the late 70's .. but at least he recognised and changed.

Thoughtful. Level headed guy. Blistering guitar player too. Johnny Winter And was the loudest most outrageously good rock and roll ever. Saw them in Santa Monica early 70's.

@zenos12 No, it's just the OPPOSITE - he just said it, listen again - he avoided fairy tales and lives in the reality of faith in God. Good for Rick.

Fine interview but, I'll build my life on the music, something that is in fact real, not unprovable mythological religious bullshit.
