You know what gets me, I've been thinking these things for years but haven't changed anything, allowing the business of university to mask it. It's not the first time I've realised my previous thoughts on the matter were correct. It's a shame that I haven't trusted myself and delayed action for so long. I think I'll be rewatching this one often. Thank you. Would you be inclined in doing a video on self-trust/doubt?

    Heed these words, fellas.
I've been following the path of death since graduating secondary school.
I'm now 33 and it really is an awful life not to be moving forward.
I'm doing something about it now, and hopefully this year I'll be accepted onto an apprenticeship.
My changes made are largely due to these videos. They have made me aware of things I didn't know were problems, or even existed.
I just thought I was doomed.
I sure hope these topics will be taught in schools someday.
It would be nice to know nobody else falls into this crack.

@@vantage789 thank you for asking, Michael.
I did not get accepted onto the apprenticeship.
And I am still struggling to find and keep a job.
But I'm still learning of all the things that have been holding me back. And finding it difficult to take that first step towards growth, which is learning to say no to certain things.
      I'm pretty passive-aggressive.
And I find assertiveness difficult to cultivate.

Most people don't have a clear direction. It can be found within themselves but usually they need a mentor, teacher, or a guide to help draw it out of them. When you're already hurting, it can be difficult to take meaningful and purposeful action because you're so focused on the validation of others to show the way instead of knowing and acting in alignment with your values.

The importance of change and channelizing towards a purposeful actualization is very well narrated. Mostly surrounding Abraham Maslow. But other major figures reflections were also well included. Can be watched when you are trying to accomplish something that is bigger than your actual capabilities. Visting after an year or so again. Thank dear Academy of Ideas folks.

My advice: accept things as they are - especially if you can't change them - and do something useful or interesting. That really does work, in my experience.

@ Max Cady: you are right. Without the opportunity, there is no escape. But then, the opportunity will not come to you by itself (also known as waiting for a miracle). You have to take an action. That action (and subsequent actions) might or might not give rise to an opportunity. But if you do not take an action, the possibility of some kind of opportunity coming your way will not even exist. Therein lies the secret. Take an action. And if leads nowhere, take another one. It could happen that none of your actions lead you to something meaningful. But without the action, the possibility of finding meaning will not even exist. Also, be always mindful of the trap of self-defeating thoughts, of always thinking that the action you are going to take is useless. This thought is your enemy. It will drag you down the pit of depression. So treat it likewise. Which action to take? Choose the one which has the most potential to widen your horizons, however scary it is. TAKE THAT ACTION.

I regularly tell people that we are born to die. However, before death, we are here to experience & educate ourselves. I also tell people that when a new outta the box opportunity comes one's way- DO IT! When people review their life, regrets usually come from NOT doing something. If they tried something and failed, they rarely regret taking the opportunity but some of the choices made inside of that opportunity that lead to failure. They look back and appreciate the learning experience.
An example would be a bank robber that got caught. We would say, "bet s/he regrets robbing that bank" and the bank robber would probably agree, "i regret robbing the bank" but look deeper. The regret is getting caught. The regret is the choices made that lead to getting caught.

So let's say one wishes to become a writer of literary philosophical works of non-fiction. And make a living doing that. One has to eat. Let's say one fantasises about this dream every day and night. It's his one true passion. Nothing else can truly satisfy him. He knew this already as a young boy. But he has no talent. He isn't conscientious. He isn't particularly intelligent. So he chose the Easy Road. So he studies in university the only thing that really interests him, other than the aforementioned. Biochemistry. He'll at least have an income! Yet studying biochemistry is death. And the studying isn't going well at all. So the whispers of the heart begin to intensify. "You'll die soon anyway!", "Just do it, don't let your dreams be dreams".
...but becoming a writer is crazy! The prospects are dismal. Even if you manage to work hard conscientiously, you'll almost certainly have to live on welfare the rest of your life. Why make such a fatal decision? Why waste this grand opportunity of becoming a biochemist. You'd have a paying job. Maybe you wouldn't be miserable. Just suffer through your education, and you'll be free afterwards! You can read books as a hobby... If one finds it so difficult to graduate in biochemistry, how can one even dream of making it as a writer?
Should one just accept the reality of it: You don't have what it takes. Your dreams are pipe dreams.
And instead focus on something one is able to do, and then do that well? Perhaps becoming a biochemist is also a pipe dream.
Guilt. Regret. Why didn't this man start working hard as a young boy when he first realised his dream? Why did he say: "Oh, I'll start working hard one day..."
All those wasted years of improvement. Now he is still effectively at ground zero, and the wall is tall. Such a waste of a life.
One day. The day I die?

Maybe you're over rationalising it. I think a big part of success and growth is taking risks which might seem unreasonable and silly but which may also pay off in the long run. Intelligence and conscientiousness can and should be developed as habits one can cultivate, they're not fixed. Part of the problem is your attitude, your lack of trust and belief in yourself. A sacrifice is made whatever path you choose, is poverty a worse price to pay than being secure financially yet dissatisfied with how your life turned out? You must choose in the end, before it's too late.

Find a career that doesn't compete too much with what you truly wish to do. This way the basic bills get paid and you keep a roof over your head. Be wary of taking on too many financial responsibilities. Also become conscious of how you spend your time. Learn how to say no to the people and activities that will waste it - tv, social media, people that chit chat for hours...etc.. Let go of the naive idea of inspiration. Do something towards the writing every day. Find the best formats to show your writing to the public. Consider all kinds of feedback, but don't take it to heart if someone says something disparaging. Keep working at it no matter what. Eventually, you will begin to find your overall niche/content/themes/ideas and in turn, your target audience will become more clear. Things will begin to integrate into this new vocation, possibly including your day job. Good Luck.

The thing to realize (at least for me) was that keeping the whole chart in mind and not to become extremely good at the mere survival thing at the bottom (which our society/western civilization with the consumption routine as the ideal foists on anyone with any amount of expendable income). So moving upward without a family safety net means frugality and focus with diligence and honor for the future. An uncertain timeline we all march onward for ourselves.

The hardest part is getting done what needs to get done at the right time. Procrastination is a killer, in order to arrive at a desired time in space you have to merge everything into its own perspective.

One aspect of the tragedy is that we grow out of self-introspective thinking, starting from school. On average people struggling with that sense of unfullfilment don´t realize where the problem begins: little self understanding of one´s own needs ant talents. They keep on distracting themselves in order to evade that sense of oppression which slowly but certanly grows.

This video single handedly summarizes everything I've analysed by myself during very troubling times. I had no one to guide me out of my crippling anxieties and I hated how the drugs prescribed to me made me impotent. Happy but impotent. Then I started learning more about my self and this is how I am still improving my condition.
As short as this sentence is, KNOW THYSELF. It is the key to your life!

If I only had listened to others, or my own fears, both of those, always, keeps us pressed down, locked in, namecalling me as this or that aso
I would only had stayed in closed environments/cultures, and neverever done many of the things I have done. "Good&Bad", (increase our ability to discern) If we listen to the differences, and we all need those both lessons, otherwhise we wont find our way ahead, in a more balanced way.
