I just ran across your channel, watched your framing of skating minister, wanted to see some of your beginning videos. I see already you are a wealth of stitching wisdom and I need to watch all your videos so I don’t miss anything 🙋♀️🇨🇦
I loved seeing your piece and your couching! In 5 minutes you opened up a whole new way of outlining for me. ❤ Thank you. I've just been referred to your flosstube and started with #1 and know I'll be watching more and more!
🦋 Thankyou so much. The reason I started videos as you saw in my first one was because I got fed up with so many cross stitchers carping about doing backstitch and how much they loathed it. I thought maybe I could spread the word of how I finish my outlining, so that is what I did. It’s been a limited success though, because there are still a lot of stitchers on Flosstube complaining! lol. That’s life! Happy Stitching xx :):)🌹
Wow for your stitching and another wow for throwing another idea in the cross stitching arena... I have never thought of couching but it makes so much sense... looking forward to following you and I am off to catch up on your other vids... Sharon - Australia
I am watching all your videos today. I hope you demonstrate couching more in one of them. I am very interested. Loving your videos. Thanks for doing them.
Hi Casey ~ I did show my couching style in number #7. It is extremely dodgy, but my lovely commenters have said that it is enough to get the idea! It saves so much time and is much more enjoyable than back stitch in my opinion.
Great idea, you'll have to do a tutorial to show people how to do couching. It's an embroidery stitch yes? So people could look up embroidery stitches and find out how to do it. It would make a lovely finish, one of those things once you hear about it you think why didn't I think of that, it makes so much sense. Lol hope you do make more videos. Happy stitching!
I have just discovered your videos. Oh my! I am now going to make my way through them all, and discover MORE bliss. You have already given me a bee in my bonnet to try couching.
Welcome aboard, Cheryl! Couching was the reason I started Flosstube, as so many stitchers said they disliked backstitching x All the best and happy blissful stitching x:):)
Welcome to Flosstube, a little late :) Great video! Your WIP is gorgeous. Thanks for deciding to make videos for us stitch-crazy people to watch! You kept me in good company stitching this afternoon; thank you! Going to watch your other videos now :)
Thankyou so much for the welcome, Kaitlin. I love watching all the different flosstube videos to see what people are doing and what they are stitching. So many different people in different lands, all with a common link of stitching. Great fun x :)
Mary Rose, I've just discovered your channel! Welcome to FlossTube. I love your couching vs backstitching technique. I've a feeling I'll learn much from you! Looking forward to watching your other videos! Happy Stitching, Suzette
Thankyou Suzette. One of the reasons I came onto Flosstube was because I saw all that needless backstitching and I couldn't think of another way to spread the message. Couching just saves so much time and it is enjoyable and versatile at the same time.
Mary Rose, your Geisha is beautiful! Couching instead of backstitching? Ummm, interesting idea. I will have to try that. Looking forward to watching more of your videos. -Kathy
Give couching a try Kathy, and see what you think. As long as you return the looping thread to the same stitch hole as it came out of from underneath, you should get a smooth result.
Sounds like we need a tutorial video on the couching system. I am certainly intrigued and I agree that I have often felt like the back stitching did not really help the piece. Really enjoy the video and your work is amazing.
Thankyou suzy, In video number # 7, I do show my couching style ~ it is amateur, and shown with my phone held up to the camera, but you can just about see how I do it. It is the same as traditional couching except that the looping thread from underneath is returned to the same hole it came out of, whereas in traditional couching the looping thread is over one stitch length x
after you commented on my last video I realized I had never watched any of your videos!!! so I have them all in my watch later list now. I have done couching in needlepoint. it looks beautiful done on cross stitch.
Thankyou so much Danielle. I am not surprised that you have not seen me before, there are so many other flosstubers and only so many hours in your day!! I think my second video is most applicable to you. I have seen all of your videos and you have so much natural talent that has barely been tapped, so much creative energy. I feel as though you should get some paper and pencils out or splash some watercolour paints about or something!! A big hug sent your way from Mary Rose x:)
Just found your channel! Love the idea of couching instead of backstitch. I really can’t stand that way backstitch looks. You Geisha is BEAUTIFUL! Having a marathon of your videos.
😁🦋 Hello to you! What a beautiful part of the world you live in. Thankyou so much for your kind words which are very much appreciated. Happy Stitching xx:):)
Just found you and just want to say 'belated welcome to flosstube family' :). Since I have a lot of your videos to watch I'll get on it and can't wait to see what you'll shoe us next.
What a lovely cross stitching! You should show what you're working on more often. I've never tried couching before but I might give it a go. I hate back stitching and avoid it if at all possible.
Kate ~ Couching is a joy, a great time saver and a piece of cake to do. If you put the needle into the same hole as the thread came out of it is virtually undetectable and gives a much better finish in my view :) Let me know how you get on.
Thanks for the share it was great I like the couching method and I like to go back sometimes on the edge's and put in some quarter stitches if I want color right up next to the edge... . I like some of the shorter vids and this was a great into... I found you thru A stitch too far.. look forward to watch more of you flosstubes
Many thanks for your comment, Alice. Couching offers a lot to the imagination of each individual stitcher as it has for yourself. Great idea of yours to colour right up to the edge ~ that would give a fuller and richer finish.
Hi Carrie ~ thanks for watching! The artwork you refer to is by an Aboriginal artist from Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory of Australia. Her name is Dorothy Yunupingu.
welcome to flosstube! i like your idea of using couching instead of backstitching and will definitely try it out :) Also that geisha is stunning, who is the designer?

That's very interesting. I have never tried couching instead of backstitching. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much for watching.
Well here I am again, watching from the beginning. Still never tried couching! Still love your videos 😊
Couching for backstitching? Genius! I'm going to try it.
Good for you, Paula ~ give it a go!!!!
I have just discovered your videos. Oh my! I am now going to make my way through them all, and discover MORE bliss. You have already given me a bee in my bonnet to try couching.

Fantastic alternative to backstitching, especially on curves.
🦋 Just so! Those curves are so easily dealt with. Happy Stitching and thanks for watching xx:):)🌹
Stunning work .

So happy to have found you! What a wonderful suggestion to couch and not backstitch! Why didn't I think of that! 😃
Ha Ha Theresa ~ It took me years to think of it, so you were in good company! :):)
Please do more videos! I enjoyed your first one & would like to see what else you gave stitched!
Thankyou so much LuAnn. I have a few things that I am getting organised at the moment which I hope to show soon. Thankyou very much for watching!

interested to learn Mary queen of Scotts was a keen stitcher
Mary was a very keen stitcher, and I should imagine her stitching was a great comfort to her during all those years of imprisonment x

Thankyou so much for the welcome! At the end of my second video I provide the info of the designer of the oriental girl. Happy stitching!
Addit - on closer inspection there is the following on the front page : Sagi No Mai, and 2012 Haruyo Morita. Hope this helps.
