    I would have to agree this is the best one thus far.

      It was a great technique and so easy to do.

    Fabulous! An excellent medium and realistic finish. Well done Ken! There are endless possibilities here. Interestingly, I bought two cans of the "concrete" finish, to spray onto two Hornby-Dublo Southern Region type footbridges. This video has convinced me that it's the right paint to use! I intend to clean them and use a light coat of Etch Primer and then the Rustoleum over that. The intention is to produce something of a concrete finish as opposed to the smooth cream finish of the powder coating technique, as supplied. Masking the stair treads and overbridge walkway might prove tricky but I'll have a go. The stairs will be lightly weathered! (I don't Model the SR so will offer them for sale eventually and if they appear good enough). Note to subscribers: In East & N.Yorks we have shops called "Boyes" and "Yorkshire Trading Company" who sell anything and everything. Some of their "Rustoleum" spray products can be as cheap as £4.99 and, if you can catch it at the right time, their spray paints at Sale time can be as little as 50p!

      Wow, I hope the bridges turn out well. It sounds really interesting. Loads of places do sell Rustoleum but its great to have a tip on some cheaper options. Thanks for sharing and good luck with the bridges.

    Kathy, thank you for all the "Tarmac" videos. I agree with Jay Odonell, "can't get any easier". I thought the foam mats were going to be easy, but this is even better all around. Thank you for sharing and Cheers! D. Muse

      You do such a great job of showing how you use these items to get the affect you want. I think that is so cool to watch and learn from! Thanks again and tell Mini-Kathy she will find out what that clump is at the end!! LMAO D. Muse

    Thanks for the tips. We get this paint at Home Depot. They also sell an extra fine sand, in the paint department. This can help with the texture, added to the paint. Light glue extra fine sand to the road and then spray over, with the textured paint. Cool demo.

      +trainroomgary Thanks a lot! I'd not thought of using sand as well.

    Pro Tip: If you want to stop the bleeding under the tape give it a shot of clear matte before you paint it. That will seal the seam and stop the bleeding.
    Also, if you want to tone down the new look of the tarmac or concrete area, hit it with a light pass or two with some white, tan & earth tones with a spray can from 2-3 feet away.

    Hi Kathy, I'm about to embark on a major project on my layout, namely building a TMD for my Deltics. I was wondering how I could get that Tarmac and concrete look. This seems like a great idea. I'll give it go. Thanks for the video.

    Hi,
    Suggest you try using Rust-Oleum Natural effects "Limestone" for a concrete effect colour. The paint is very fine even suitable for N gauge with a subtle texture. May need some additional colouring to get the required shade, previously a lot of people had great results with Plastikote Suede Touch "Tan" which is now discontinued.
    Regards

    Big thanks for this one Kathy.
    After hours of searching YT I reckon this must be the easiest way of laying down tarmac.
    I watched your other vids, but I'm looking at building 1/24 F1 racing dioramas. All the other methods leave the tarmac a little too rough and mats are too coarse. Would it work straight onto plywood, or should I use a primer first?

    • @KathyMillatt
      @KathyMillatt  6 років тому +1

      It seems quite tenacious so probably wouldn’t need a primer. You may need to test a bit first. It should do a great job for what you want so good luck!

    Hi Kathy, great video. Do you think the Rust-oleum surface would be okay to put adhesive road markings on top please ?

    • @KathyMillatt
      @KathyMillatt  2 роки тому

      It’s slightly bumpy so it depends how then the road markings are. If you can tamp them down over the bumps then they could work but you may find paint an easier method if your surface is very rough.

    Hmm...These paints worked quite well for your project, however I did some research as far as general customer reviews; and they are horrible. People complained that there was practically no opacity, the color of the substrate showed through after multiple coats were applied, and that the spray nozzle continually clogged. Perhaps it worked so well on your project, was that the surface to be painted was card? I love how it turned out on your video. It looks great in fact. have you tried these paints on any other surfaces besides card?
    Love your channel BTW.

    • @KathyMillatt
      @KathyMillatt  7 років тому

      Thanks! I haven't tried them on anything except card. I did two coats of the aged iron which is a bit darker and mostly it would only have needed one. I can imagine that if you are spraying onto something less absorbent then you may get a different effect. My nozzles haven't clogged but I always clear them after every coat by spraying upside down until nothing comes out.

    Hey Kathy - Great videos as always! Do you ever post videos of running trains on your layout?

      Not very often! I took my stock off to do scenery and it’s on the very long to do list to get it all back out.

    Thanks Kathy, had already thought about using this although it's hard to get in the Netherlands. Do you think it would be suitable foir N-scale , or would that look out of scale?

    • @KathyMillatt
      @KathyMillatt  7 років тому

      +janbouli I would say it's a little large for a new road. For an older, more worn one, it may work. The Texture seemed a little less when I painted it.
