If you weren't alive or old enough at this time, you'll never know how big Guns actually were. Biggest band in the world for a good 5-6 years before they imploded.
I was a teenager when they hit big and they were a rocket ship. Massive, exciting, musical, edgy… photogenic. It was the era in music where bands worked hard to get known, unlike the studio picked, industry plants.
I was there in the early 90s at the Illusions tour with Metallica and Faith No More s/b 8hrs but....if you were there at Giants stadium you saw Axle and why it was longer. Still the greatest band of all time!!!!! Sus ❤
I am old enough and was at the Illusions concert at Giants Stadium. The biggest band of all time and the one I followed religiously on MTV. I recorded every interview they made as it was happening. I am still dedicated even though they did "implode". Their songs are embedded in my rocking mind. Sus
That was in the days that a major album release was a major event ( I remember how big the release of the "Use Your Illusion" albums was. I managed to get the first one at a small record store on release day (my Mom had to buy it for me since I was only 11)).
I love when musicians talk about the process of songwriting. Sometimes, I wish that's all they talked about. At the end of the day, that's why we love them, right?
I still love them , the original line up. I was fortunate enough to see them At Donnington Park, Uk 1988. Where the two guys got crushed to death. Because they were explosive They blew me away and the whole audience. Wish I had some photos No phones in those days
When they talk about growing as musicians, I think they grew more than any over heavy band. Look at ACDC. They kept writing the same songs, just slightly different. But Us your illusion's was a much more mature records.
Not yet. I'd say Axl became a Megalomaniac during the Illusions tour. Knowing Slash & Duff were Drunk and Wasted 24/7, so that snake had them sign away the name of the band to him.

For the people asking whether he said he dated a 13 year old: that’s not what he said. Slash had known the girl since middle school. He was saying Slash met her when she was 13 and he (Axl) ended up dating her later…they were all around the same age. Smh
It’s great that axl admitted that he was psychotic this very early on. He was telling everyone who he was and then they acted surprised when he brought it out in his behaviors.
Slash and Axl were obviously buddies. It's a shame Slash had such animosity towards him when he wrote his book. He still came across as having a ton of respect for Axl but the book would've been better and had more stories if they'd been amicable at that time
You can't blame him though. Axl was completely to blame for the demise of the band in the mid 90's. He gained complete ownership of GNR and tried to turn Slash and Duff into his on-salary employees. Totally understandable that they basically said fuck you and left.

It's so accurate what they said about each other.. how Axl described Slash's personality and guitar skills, how he described Izzy.. how Slash said only the combination of 5 of them could've made GnR.. it's like they knew it all yet threw it all away for egos and drugs. Not to much surprise, they thrived mostly on the GnR material throughout rest of their careers, although each of them tried their best to get their shit together and work seriously
It's always funny for me to see interviews with guys (chain) smoking. That's something you don't and most likely won't see these days (except for maybe vaping, but I don't see that either).

I like hearing about the writing process...and just being straight forward on how they create their songs
I love sm how caring and down to earth axl and slash are but mainly with axl with how he praises Slash and talks about his passion and personality.
I’m distracted by every sound slash makes coming through the mic! Smoking, drinking ,breathing haha !
Hearing him inhale threw me off..but it's a natural thing. We never really think of it listening to a song but those inhales are always removed.
