Our tips would be, (i) Sail on Iona, the windows in the atrium have awesome views, (ii) buy your fridge magnet for Stavanger on-line instead of in Stavanger, you'll save big time! (iii) take the land train in Alesund - you'll never get that tune out of your head.
Oh these are great tips. Those fridge magnets are not cheap. We saw the land train in Alesund, going up to the top of steps we walked up. We should have taken the train.
We were at the North Cape on June 20th. It was 2 degrees c. Breathtaking, snow still in places and constant sunshine at midnight - wow. Luckily we had packed hats and gloves and layered up. Fantastic
P S, that must have been amazing at the North cap in those temperatures and with the 24 hour day light. We would absolutely love to do that. And layers there are 100% the answer :) Have a lovely day, Linzi & Mark
I found your video to match exactly the title of your channel. You seem to be the kind of people I’d love to run into on a cruise. Very sweet. Great tips as we head into Norway on the. Celebrity Apex in just a couple of weeks. I was looking for those last minute tips, tricks and techniques and you two delivered. Thank you for posting.
Thank you so much for such a lovely comment, it genuinely brightens our day when we see something like this. Hope you have an amazing time on Apex, and do come back and let us know how you got on, or if you are on facebook, post some piccies in the group :) facebook.com/groups/suitenatured Have a lovely day, Linzi & Mark
We were in the Fjords in mid August 2023, and the weather was miserable. Torrential downpours, high winds, cold. Our cruise started in Iceland where the weather was fantastic. We were on Viking and enjoyed the smaller size which enabled us to spin 360 by 7 Sisters water fall for example. We did get to Flam, but it was pouring and so we didn’t feel like taking the downhill bike ride we’d booked.
Great examples Kevin of how changeable and unpredictable the weather is, and the pro's and con's to larger and smaller ships. That spin near 7 sisters must have been amazing. We will get to Flam eventually😂
We missed Alesund and Stavanger on our November 2022 sailing - weather forecast called for sleet both days, so QM2 diverted to Zeebrugge. That puts a fjord cruise back on the 'bucket list'.
Perfect timing! We're doing our first cruise in May... and it's to the Fjords on Iona, should be interesting! Your vlogs have been the perfect entertainment during our planning.
You will get to Flåm one day Linzi! We were really disappointed with the café at the top of the steps in Alasund. A teabag for over four pounds!! We enjoyed the printing, canning and petroleum museums in Stavanger. They might sound a bit boring but they were really interesting so great if it’s a rainy day. You get a discount if you visit more than one of the museums. xx
as always with you two lovely people, your vlogs are amazingly informative and helpful, as well as quite timely :-) We have booked YC MSC Virtuosa to do the fjords in Aug, taking my son nd hi partner also. I will now make sure we are all prepared for the weather! We didnt really appreciate it being cold in Aug lol. And the prices.....jeez. At that rate, Ill be taking contraband off of the ship for lunch in my pockets haha...take care Mark and Linzi x
I did the fjords last august it was so warm and it was my first time on a cruise, I had an inside cabin wouldn’t book that again felt like I missed so much. Going back in April and have a balcony feel like it be so much better.
An inside cabin on virtually any other cruise (Alaska and Panama aside) is a great alternative, but as you said on the Fjords, you really do want to be able to look out from your cabin or sit on the balcony and take it all in.
@7:24 the prices are in Norwiegen Krona not Euros, a great british pound gets you 13 Norwiegen krona so a 120 meal is less than a tenner, been to Fjords 3 times, it not cheap but also not that expensive however you are 2 very good advocates for cruising
Thanks Dave, we try :) We had converted it from the 1350 Kronas to Euros (not sure why we said Euros rather than £'s). It was an expensive Seafood lunch😂 Linzi & Mark
Going in June on Queen Anne... very interesting video thanks. Strange about prices as we found Oslo last June quite reasonably priced - at least compared to London - concert tickets a fair bit cheaper.... Maybe cruise ports have a much more captive audience
Thanks Andrew, and enjoy Queen Anne, we can't wait to get on her too, but we've got a little longer to wait until Dec. You may well be right on the cruise port town prices. We've never been to Oslo so can't really compare, but those we have been to have all been very expensive, far more than we expected. Linzi & Mark
Don’t go expecting nice weather. We went in July and expected spring sunshine. It rained daily. The cruise before us was wet all week and the one after. Even the locals were complaining about how wet it had been. Thst said, it’s beautiful and we are going back next April
Absolutely right Richard. Go with the expectation of wet or colder weather (likr you would for Alaska) and if you get sunny days it's a bonus. The rain almost seems right in the Fjords though 😂
@@SuiteNatured but did you notice all the fridge magnets, calendars, pamphlets and even on the back of buses showed blue skies and a few white fluffy clouds. False advertising me thinks 😂
I you want to go to Flåm, you can take the plane to Bergen airport (BGO), take the light rail to the railway station, take the train to Flåm, or rent a bike there and roll down, or if you're more adventurous than me, take the zip line down, and then take the ferry back to Bergen. Then you can take the light rail back to the airport and fly home. There are direct flights from Bergen to Manchester, London and Edinburgh (Mancunians flying £5 cheaper than the Londoners, for what that's worth) via Norwegian, so this could be doable as a day or weekend trip. :) You could also take the ferry south to Stavanger, Hirtshals and Kristiansand if you want to stitch together your own adventure.
What a great idea for a weekend trip :) we will look into that, never thought of going to Flam by anything other than cruise, but that would be quite a novel way of doing a port we keep missing. Thank you
This is an awesome video, friendly and down to earth - perfect! I am thinking about going on one next summer, as I lived in Norway as a kid for a couple years. I'd like to go back! Weird question, did you see many supermarkets at any of the ports? My brothers have already asked me to bring them some childhood sweeties and crisps back. Thankyou!
Hi Blightygal, thank you so much. Not a weird question at all. We did see a couple of supermarkets in Bergen and in Stavanger, so you should be able to pick up some sweets and crisps no problem.
@@SuiteNatured Brilliant news, thankyou so very much! My bruv's will be pleased :-) Am looking forward to going, will book in a few weeks for next year,
I absolutely love your channel! Thank you for creating great content that’s fun and helpful. How do you think the Apex cove type balcony would be for Norwegian Fjords? Still see everything well enough?
Thank you Fawaz, we now do our audio mix differently, so if you take a look at any videos from the last month you should hear a different mix that both your airpods will enjoy equally😂
I just cam upon your video and I love the simplicity of it and how cute you both are together, love it! Would you recommend the cruise ship you were on?
Thank you so much, and yes we would absolutely recommend QM2 for the Fjords, or Celebrity Apex. To be fair, we'd go to the Fjords on a ferry if it had good views and a decent bar ;)
Concerning prices of food etc in Norway. - Whatever you are buying in a restaurant is much more expensive than in an ordinary grocery store. Touring on a cruise ship, the only payment Norway is getting out of you, is what you are paying for your excursions etc. People who are living in Norway, know about this, - and where to buy things for more reasonable prices.
I loved the simplicity of the video. what a lovely couple. I concerned how much on average would the tour of 1 week cost for 1 individual. planning to do so.
Thank you so much Noman, it is a pricey place for some of the excursions, but you can find some great bargains for the actual cruises, and then do the towns/ports on your own, which would save you a fortune, compared to the cruise excursions.
The Fjords is one of those places where no matter which side you are on you will have spectacular views. Most ports tend to be on the right side (starboard) but there are a few on the left and a few that you will tender for, and given you will turn around to come back out of most fjords then you see the other side then. It’s just down to personal choice as much as anything.
Hi Jeffrey, you are in luck. This little land train operates anytime there are cruise ships in, including Sundays. You don't need to buy a ticket in advance you can get it at the kiosk near the train and it's the same price. At least that way you can check the weather before deciding to get on. We've put the link below. Have a lovely day, Linzi & Mark www.bytoget.no/byer/aalesund
In September autumn has started, so probably somewhere between 5-15 degrees C. September can have beautiful weather, but it can also rain a lot. Norwegian weather is very unpredictable, and it can change fast. It´s better for you to expect rain, and be happy when you get nice weather instead, than the other way around 🙂 Sun goes down at about 8pm.
Stacey, what seems to be the issue with the sound? We have tested it here and on different devices, and via our sound system and it all sounds good? We use Shure MV7 microphones and Focusrite studio quality pre-amp? We upgraded to this a few months ago, as we wanted to raise the quality of the sound significantly. We have not had anyone else comment on the sound quality. What are you playing the video on and we will try to replicate the issue. Linzi & Mark
@SuiteNatured I have no problem with your microphone watching on my Samsung S23; only issue for me sometimes is that my American ear doesn't always understand your British pronunciation of certain words.😅 So enjoyed the fjords scenery! Did Best of Scandinavia cruise last year on Celebrity Apex (loved it!!)but still have Norway on the bucket list. The prices for food and merchandiseyou quoted, though. Wow!
@@SuiteNaturedI've stumbled upon this (great) video just now, the sound quality is fine, but I think that panning voices left and right sounds unnatural. Our brains are so used to hearing voice from the center, panning makes it hard to focus. Even when you're talking all at once, it would be easier to understand when panned center. Just my 2c
We completely agree about the panning. It wasn't something we were really aware about until a few comments came in about it, as it depends how you are watching it to how pronounced the panning is. We changed it a few weeks ago so if you have a quick look at one of our two most recent videos you should hear a big improvement. Linzi and Mark
