Good video. I installed a Tado system last year & it's been great. I had to drain my heating system & change most of the rad valves as the old Mk1 Drayton TRV's I had wouldn't accept the Tado heads or any of the adaptors they supplied. Currently I'm gradually switching over to rechargeable batteries in the Tado TRV heads to save on long term battery costs.
As for loft insulation this is a job I have put off for far too long. Our 1986 house only has 100 mm of glass fibre insulation between the joists. I boarded out 90% the loft 35 years ago for storage (we have a lot of stuff in our loft) which is why I have put off installing extra insulation for so long. My plan now is to raise the existing boarding up on a LoftZone leg kit & install 200mm of extra insulation under it. I have also installed shelving between the roof V trusses (same type as yours) to take as much stuff off the floor as possible. I have also upgraded the lighting in the loft to LED strip lights so we can see what we are doing up there. There's never the right time to be working in the loft because it's either way too hot or freezing cold. However, I do need to get this finished asap now before we get too far into the heating season. Keep the vids coming.

Hi Colin - Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment on this video 🙂
Sounds like it was quite a big change for you when installing Tado. I've done the same with the rechargeable batteries and so far, so good.
That's really interesting, I was looking at those platform kits. We don't have a huge amount to store in the loft at the moment but I definitely agree it's best off the floor as able. I'm also planning to install shelving in the V trusses, so that's useful to know. It's a very useful space, but I agree way too hot in the Summer and freezing in the Winter although my house battery seems to be holding up ok in there.
Thanks for the support and all the best getting your loft insulation completed 👍

I added 400mm to our 1960’s house which only had 50mm when we moved in 🥶 Similar price to buy - around £300. Thanks for the videos - good to watch as we have solar too. Also just got wool fibre cavity wall insulation done which we have noticed an immediate improvement + reduction of sound from outside (didn’t expect that benefit)

Hi Matthew - Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment on this video. Glad you found it useful.
Yikes 50mm, definitely a sound investment adding more. That's great re the cavity wall insulation, it's so frustrating how leaky our houses are! We're loving our solar and battery journey too.

Our story is not dissimilar: while your government wisely offers grants for this (although sounds like it wasn’t done right), we privately paid a small fortune to a company that blew insulation in willy-nilly. We haven’t had the same problems you did, but we’re also not overwhelmed by the work. We will probably vacuum up the blown bits, lay down our own like you did here and, who knows, maybe blow the blown insulation back in. Very helpful vid - thanks!
