Halsey by far, she's very insensitive even with her own daughter so, you get a better idea why she referred irrelevant to the scientist's daughter. Also, this is the first time we encounter with the Spartans III as most of the noble team including us, are part of that new program, Jorge is the only Spartan II on the team. That's why he said been Halsey's half his life and refered her almost like "mom"
Reach is the UNSC's biggest military stronghold. They didn't think the Covenant could possibly get onto the planet without them noticing. Prior to the start of this game, they didn't think the Covenant even knew the planet's location. That's why the higher ups assumed it was the insurrection, given that they pulled a similar job on another planet.
And this is also why Halsey was only friendly towards Jorge. The other members of Noble team are from the Spartan 3 program, which Halsey had nothing to do with. So she hates those spartans.
Halsey was not part of the spartan III program and consider spartan III vastely inferior to spartan II (less intelligent ,less resilient, they can survive big injuries but the painkiller effect they have tends to kill them since they ignore the wound until it's too late). So she resents all the Noble team at the exception of George. Spartan II are 20 years older than the spartan III by the way.

Kind of. ODST came out right before this and aside from the streets at night overworld stuff, the missions almost always had us paired up with a member of Alpha-9, even fighting with the majority of the squad at points. If I remember right, the Alpha-9 fighting as a unit segments were test beds for Noble Team's squad AI here.
@@VegetaLF7 With odst the team felt really important, you couldn't go guns blazing. But with previous games, you could just storm in as chief, but with reach, just because you're a spartin, doesn't mean you can't rush in alone
“Your primary objective? Commander are you a puppet or a Spartan?” I love this line because it shows how Halsey holds Spartans to a completely different standard than any other soldier who would be praised for perfectly following protocol like a puppet (or robot). But to Halsey, Spartans are not just soldiers, but the best that humanity has to offer. Capable of making the tough decisions on the go, orders or not. And if you know anyone in the military they’ll tell you insubordination is a big no no to say the least. But Spartans must be willing to take that risk. To identify that 0.01% likely scenario when they know in their gut it’s necessary. And they better be right. This is why John is her favorite. He’s the embodiment of everything she dreamed of. He’s proven to be able to do that. To instinctively make the hard decisions, directly disobeying orders from his superiors because after all his main mission is to save humanity whatever the cost. And ultimately the results speak for themselves. Also you have to remember that all of Noble team except for Jorge are Spartan 3s which were produced without the knowledge of Halsey. They weren’t kidnapped like the 2s. In fact at this point she’s probably just finding out about their existence.
It's worth noting that the S-III's were indeed kidnapped, just in a different manner. The S-II's were taken from their families and replaced with defective flash clones that wouldn't survive long. The S-III's, however, were taken from orphanages and similar environments where there was less oversight. The youngest S-III's were four years old when they were conscripted, and very few lived past twelve. They were, essentially, disposable child soldiers, which is every bit as horrifying as it sounds.
i agree and i feel like halo 3 encapsules this. its also interesting to think about this in context to halo 3 because in halo 3 lord hood is giving orders and telling john not to trust cortanas message and arguing that the fight for humanity should be done from earth rather than going to the ark like cortana mentions, and john instead trusts cortana and keys and him both decide to follow through with their gut instinct on what will work (almost like in the beginning scene of halo 3 where cortana is explaining how she chose john because not only does he have all the skills of a high tier spartan, but he has luck) or another version of luck, called a good gut instinct in how to handle situations
No one seems to have mentioned it but the main reason for the grunts and them all not speaking english anymore is because Cortana is not around to translate the Covenant language for you. She demonstrates it in Halo 2 when she just snaps her fingers and translates the prophets chanting to english. Though in lore as well the Grunts are the first to figure out english and very early (they enjoyed soap operas) so maybe this is just one of those pieces of lore that is contradictory.
No, a lot of covies are just bi-lingual. Through H5 when playing as every character besides the Chief you still get english just as often. Presumably as understanding your enemy's language is fairly important. Also being the reason covenant don't speak it until later games.
They are called Noble because each Spartan fire team has its own name/ designation. John and his team are consistently called blue team, Spartan red team and green team are other common designations that tend to rotate. Noble team is just the name of their fireteam, as the color designation tends to be a Spartan 2 thing. Later teams like the spartan 3 and 4 groups have other names, like noble, majestic, osiris, etc. Hope that helps!
Spartan 2s were kidnapped at roughly 10 years old and trained constantly for years until they were injected with a cocktail of chemicals to make them stronger, faster, and smarter. I think 50% died or where left disabled. Spartan 3s were kids whose parents where killed from the Covinant attacks, so a little more ethical this time. More were produced this time made specifically to fight the Covenant head on most of them dying on mission.
@loonylenny The S-II's were actually six years old when they were kidnapped. The youngest S-III's were four. The Spartan III program had a simple mandate: create cheap disposable child soldiers. Most didn't survive past twelve years old, as they were typically sent on suicide missions.

Halsey is one of the most interesting characters in fiction imo. -Dismisses the daughter because, yes, she is irrelevant to the discussion and important subject matter. Halsey is intellectual, cold to the degree that polar ice caps get jealous and thus is detached from basically all morality. The tactical info is all that matters. Jorge knows this cause he was trained with Chief under her supervision. He gets her and knows that its not personal to her and continues the discussion. -Judges Carter as just a soldier, so he claps back in her own "language" by playing a bit of a wit battle, citing regulations. Knows Halsey is ONI's golden gal and wont really lock her up in a time of crisis like this, but makes the point of "I'm not some meat slab, I can think, I can command this team." She takes the hint and gets back to her work. No stare of indignation as he's leaving. She gets the message. Jorge is also a BAMF, but a gentle giant type. Favorite bit of his: taking off his helmet to connect to this civilian they rescued. 'my face can help make that human connection so I'mma comfort her if I can'. Spartan 2's DO NOT take their helmets off in the field. Most of them don't even take them off when they're in the safety of a ship or fortified base. Chief notoriously just NEVER takes his off. Jorge taking his off is special because really, He is too. Emile carved the helmet markings himself. He's really fond of killing insurrectionist humans too. Like, REALLY fond of it. Covies are just another thing for him to kill. Also, when he and Jorge kinda goad each other at the end of the first mission, Carter tells them "lock it down". They do it, permanently and immediately. Jorge bumps his shoulder in a friendly way on the way out right after. They're adults and spartans, they got a job to do. Its perfect lol. Everyones really mature in this game and I love it. Yeah, I kinda love this game, how could you tell?? Anyway, excited for the next part! Your halo legends reactions have been great too!
Just to add on to the bit about Emile and his hatred towards the Innies, Colonel Holland recommended that, were a mission against Insurrectionists to come up, Emile should be held back because of how excessive his violence against Innies is.
Ever since I played it as a kid, the cinematography of this game has stood out as just absolutely incredible, and for me it still holds up as some of the best I've ever seen in a game
Just a reminder to please not discuss any lore that Meg has not come across yet - be it in books, cinematics, or elsewhere. (She may want to discover it all herself.) Thank you!
Reach is probably my favorite of the Halo series. You definitely run the entire range of emotions. And the music is second to none. Have fun Meg and bring the fight to the Covenant
watching the panic over team color coordination was the realest thing ive seen in these playthroughs so far. cant believe you ended up going with the exact color scheme i use in every halo too 😭😭😭
I’ll give the simplistic version. The Spartan Branch of the UNSC is split into fireteams and each team has its own name or call sign. Regardless of what your name is or what you were previously called, once you join a fireteam, you take on that teams call sign. For special operations at this level, they’ll almost never use names over the radio because of the risk it has on operational security or OPSEC. As stated by Carter, the main character is replacing the previous Noble 6 who was killed transporting a bomb to a covenant cruiser and with everyone there sort of knowing the main character has a track record as an ONI assassin “Lone wolf”, not everyone is ecstatic about him/her joining the team. This was shown in the trailer so no spoilers here. Without going into lore past what you’ve seen so far, there’s a lot of spartan teams out there with varying specialties.
Watching you get so attached to these characters makes me think back to the first time I played through the campaign. Emile was my favourite because of his helmet and his shotgun makes him so badass. Brutal story, had me in tears when I was younger. Soooo good though. Probably the best halo game in terms of immersive gameplay for me, as I always wanted to be a spartan or marine fighting the Covernant.
I love how well the body language of Noble Team during is done during cutscenes. It’s a small detail that I think really adds to each of their characters and helps make the story more immersive.
Noble team is the name of the squad you're in, so everyone is designated as Noble [insert number]. The Spartans still have their ID number, however because these are Spartan-III's they have a letter before the number, which designates what company the Spartan is from i.e. Carter's ID is A-259 so he is from Alpha Company. And to give you an idea of the timeline, Reach takes place not long before Halo: CE, meaning that at this point the Human-Covenant war has already been going on for decades. So, everyone should be aware of the Covenant. Also, just a little lore thing: Noble 6 is canonically a guy
Love the halo reach elites. Reminds me of the classic halo 2 elites before anniversary. Like the darker eyes that the reach ones have. The headdress look so badass
The reason the "higher ups" did not know it was the covenant was because they had been jamming/disconnecting reachs communications, which is what the first mission was about
THIS IS THE MOMENT IVE BEEN WAITING FORRRR!!!! Been watching since Halo 2, it’s great to see others enjoy the same things I do, and reliving it all over again :)
I love listening to you trying to make sense of your playthrough and come up with theories even if they are wrong. I appreciate anyone who tries to analyze the games they play based on the limited information they have instead of just mindlessly shooting through the game.
I just randomly found your channel. I very much enjoyed the video it was so wholesome and you actually provided me a new point of view on Halsey’s character. Cool stuff keep up the good work
I was so excited to see you make your own spartan! This was very gratifying to see throughout the story. You are totally right about the emotional part of Halo. I get the same way even when revisiting the campaigns. It’s just good storytelling. Hope you have a great play through!
I love that you are playing this game... Your reaction to Halo 3 cut deep. You're gonna need stitches after this one... Hands down, my favorite Halo game. Of. All. Time. Thank you.
You've just reached (no pun intended) my favorite game in the franchise. It has the most solid gameplay and my personal favorite narrative. The visuals in this one are amazing, from the graphics (to its era) to the beautiful shots. This game is perfect for me. Hope you enjoy it!
Not everyone in noble team has a ton of backstory despite being fan favorites. You kinda have to pick up on context clues and how they interact with each other which is something you’re already doing so that’s great. You’re really close about Emile having a hard exterior and spot on about Jorge.
I'm loving the breakdown you did of that final conversation with Halsey, and I love your oh so lovely experience with her thus far lol I would say that her exchange with Jorge is more of a jovial thing, because she likes him. The "indeed" was her expressing approval, like a kid who went to college and is visiting home with a cool new haircut. But the other Noble Team members weren't "raised" by her, so she is quite standoffish and cold to them. And Noble is just their callsign, it's how they are identified over the radio to HQ when a whole bunch of units are talking, but obviously it's written that way to symbolize them.
Halo Reach has always been my favourite in the series. It’s such a gorgeous experience, beautifully told sci-fi story. The custom Noble Six, the short but concise characterisation of each Noble, the cinematography and staging just *chef’s kiss* Something that really stuck out to me replaying Reach after reading the Kilo-5 novels was (as you pointed out) was the fact that Halsey calls all the Spartan-IIIs by rank but Jorge (a Spartan-II) by his name. She deeply resents the IIIs, and they seem to have a pretty negative (or at least flippantly irreverent) opinion of her, despite her undoubtable inspiration for their creation. IIIs were designed to hit harder and die faster than IIs and it’s likely why she finds them essentially on level to sacrilege in her opinion; or more precisely ONI’s quantity over quality approach that is. Jorge is my favourite character in the whole franchise. I think his approach to the doctor’s daughter vs. Cater or Emile’s goes to show just the vast difference in how the II and III programs approached its candidates. The IIIs were objects of desperation, weapons of last resort and maximum carnage. Even the most even keeled of them (like Carter) seem less interested in actually protecting humanity and more interested in confronting an enemy. Master Chief Displays the same sort of selfless attachment to those he feels responsible for, like Jorge. In all honesty I felt bad for Jorge after learning he was the only II in Noble Team. Not only losing the previous Spartan team he was a part of but to be put with a younger generation so devastatingly detached from everything he was brought up on must have been lonely. I’d expect he was actually excited to see Halsey given just how little he had left of his past.
the character noble six was actually a classified secretive oni assassin with the title of hyper lethal, a title only ever given to the master chief himself
Just writing this comment for funsies and in case Meg sees it! Halo Reach has a ton of military lingo which caused some confusion for you in this episode. Some examples include "take point" which means to go into the next area first, "clear the LZ" meaning kill all the badguys in the Landing Zone, and there will be a couple times they will say "AO" which means area of operation, your current location. Also small little fun fact, the marines you fight with in this game aren't actually marines at all, they're the only appearance in a halo game of the UNSC army which were exclusively a planetary defense force!
Don't kill the ostriches - megmage. What I heard: Don't kill the hostages. Also me: learn yer birbs those are reach moa, not ostriches. Jorge is best girl... I mean spartan.
Jorge is the one Spartan II. The rest are Spartan IIIs, ONI's next batch - but that isn't to insinuate the IIIs are a direct improvement. On the whole, IIIs are mass production line, made cheaper, and spent easier; almost all of the III's Beta Company was used on a suicide mission on Pegasi B. Noble Six, interestingly, is a member of Beta Company.
A welcome surprise to my afternoon, cannot wait for the rest of the play through this game alongside halo 2. The games I played the most and the story is so well done. The firefight mode was a great way to kill time after school waiting for friends to get on and play S.W.A.T and the armour customisation was so good without a single dlc. Just grind and achievement hunting.
This game is just great top to bottom. You’ll have a blast. The soundtrack is a personal fav of mine in the series. It encapsulates the total feel of the game so well.
Cant wait to see your whole playthrough of Reach! "oooh, I wonder if shes unhinged" - Meg says casually. One of my favorite Halos in terms of Music, followed by ODSTs soundtrack.
YT really dropped the ball, by not pushing this to my feed, or maybe it just got lost in the crowd. But finally, here I am, so ready to see you play one of the best in the series!
38:49 i have a fun little story about this level. When it first came out. My cousin and i really wanted to play it. So of course we put it on the highest difficulty. So when we reach this level, that elite jumpscare us. He jump on top of moving boxes and jump again so we didn't see him. Then he drop down, kill my teammate and one lash kill me XD. It was a moment to remember.
I played this around the time the MCC came out on PC. I remember there was an audio issue that made it so that everytime a cutscene played my ears were assaulted by incredibly loud static like noises
at 1:02:34 you killed it with those headshots playing super well, im trying to get my friend into halo and its sad because they say they like to play with me but they dont like it because they are not as versed with playing video games or using a controller, and dont like feeling like they arent knowing whats going on and dont like not immediately getting how to play, and playing takes so much focus that the story is lost. tried telling them its just by playing you easily will get better and its just like typing and not needing to look down all the time after a bit of practice. its also sad because she seems to not really see video games for the story they can show and the emotions they can bring, and just sees them with the stigma that some people have around them.

Meg immediately simping for Emile is hilarious 🤣
Ever since I played it as a kid, the cinematography of this game has stood out as just absolutely incredible, and for me it still holds up as some of the best I've ever seen in a game
What's really cool about this game is the dialogue changes, or rather Noble Team addresses you differently depending on what gender you choose.
Just a reminder to please not discuss any lore that Meg has not come across yet - be it in books, cinematics, or elsewhere. (She may want to discover it all herself.) Thank you!

Nothing bad happens to Noble 6

Reach is probably my favorite of the Halo series. You definitely run the entire range of emotions. And the music is second to none. Have fun Meg and bring the fight to the Covenant
Switching the color is the best call I’ve ever seen any let’s player do ever
watching the panic over team color coordination was the realest thing ive seen in these playthroughs so far. cant believe you ended up going with the exact color scheme i use in every halo too 😭😭😭
Lmao at Meg quitting and changing her colors, we've all been there
This was my favorite Halo game. Played so much of this in high school and college. Playing campaign while watching Red vs Blue was the best.
7:17 this part really felt like carter was talking to me as a kid, as we had played halo 2, 3 alone
Never clicked a notification so fast 😂
Watching you get so attached to these characters makes me think back to the first time I played through the campaign. Emile was my favourite because of his helmet and his shotgun makes him so badass. Brutal story, had me in tears when I was younger. Soooo good though. Probably the best halo game in terms of immersive gameplay for me, as I always wanted to be a spartan or marine fighting the Covernant.
I love how well the body language of Noble Team during is done during cutscenes. It’s a small detail that I think really adds to each of their characters and helps make the story more immersive.
Emile slightly backing away from Jorge after meeting the girl makes me laugh every time.
This is probably my favorite halo. Can’t wait to watch these
The emotions that well up every tine I hear the Reach music... they are so powerful.
Oh my days you don't know how much this made me smile, finally a big content creator playing the game fully, thank you so much :]
The reason the "higher ups" did not know it was the covenant was because they had been jamming/disconnecting reachs communications, which is what the first mission was about
Watching your journey through Halo has been one of my favorite things on UA-cam recently. Glad you're enjoying it as much as we are watching it.
“Who’s the hottie in the mask?”
She’s so real for that
Can't wait to watch this after work!❤
THIS IS THE MOMENT IVE BEEN WAITING FORRRR!!!! Been watching since Halo 2, it’s great to see others enjoy the same things I do, and reliving it all over again :)
Emile is also my favorite because his voice actor is Jamie Hector aka Marlo Stanfield from the Wire
To be clear Jorge is a spartan II, everyone else in noble team is a spartan III so they have no connection to Halsey because she didn’t make them.
Been waiting for this one!
Cool stuff keep up the good work
Yeah, i was waiting for this since you announce you will play Halo 😁
Such an amazing story. You’re going to love this experience!
I was so excited to see you make your own spartan! This was very gratifying to see throughout the story. You are totally right about the emotional part of Halo. I get the same way even when revisiting the campaigns. It’s just good storytelling. Hope you have a great play through!
Noble is just their team name and all of Noble team except for George are Spartan 3's, George is a Spartan 2 like Masterchief.
Hope you enjoy it!
wooo! Been waiting for this game, have fun! Such a beautiful story, one of the best in the series I think.
The moment is upon us. The time is now. Good luck to you, Spartan.
A quick fun fact Emile was originally gonna get replaced with a different spartan on the team due to his aggressive nature when fighting human rebels
well at least Kat didn't drive! always a plus lmao
I always forget just how utterly stunning and cinematic Halo: Reach truly is. The cutscenes are SO immersive its insane. So happy you're playing it :)
Meg, casually pausing war to change her armor color...
Welcome to Noble Team, Spartan.
"That lone wolf stuff stays behind" *second mission immediately lone wolfs*
FINALLY I can't believe I missed this but I have been very excited for you to experience this. Starting my watch through now!
Spartans were created to fight the Covenant so yes, they know about the covenant
Not everyone in noble team has a ton of backstory despite being fan favorites. You kinda have to pick up on context clues and how they interact with each other which is something you’re already doing so that’s great. You’re really close about Emile having a hard exterior and spot on about Jorge.
Not sure if someone else said or not or if i missed it, but those "ostriches" are actually called Moa and they are native to reach!
I'm loving the breakdown you did of that final conversation with Halsey, and I love your oh so lovely experience with her thus far lol
I would say that her exchange with Jorge is more of a jovial thing, because she likes him.
The custom Noble Six, the short but concise characterisation of each Noble, the cinematography and staging just *chef’s kiss*
Something that really stuck out to me replaying Reach after reading the Kilo-5 novels was (as you pointed out) was the fact that Halsey calls all the Spartan-IIIs by rank but Jorge (a Spartan-II) by his name.
YES! this made my morning way better!
I really think you are gonna love Halo Reach. It's one of the best. Saludos desde México 👉
I've been so happy watching you get into playing Halo after listening to the music. The bungie games are so good and will forever be classics.
the character noble six was actually a classified secretive oni assassin with the title of hyper lethal, a title only ever given to the master chief himself
Halo Reach will forever be my favorite Halo, the amount of memories I have with this game. The story is absolutely amazing. I hope you love it, Meg! ❤
44:52 the Phantom actually looks really menacing here
The phantom menace
@@Obiwanrollmeone so true
“Even ONI is like ✨GIRL ur crazy✨” 😭😂😂😂
A welcome surprise to my afternoon, cannot wait for the rest of the play through this game alongside halo 2. The games I played the most and the story is so well done. The firefight mode was a great way to kill time after school waiting for friends to get on and play S.W.A.T and the armour customisation was so good without a single dlc. Just grind and achievement hunting.
This game is just great top to bottom. You’ll have a blast. The soundtrack is a personal fav of mine in the series. It encapsulates the total feel of the game so well.
Those are Skirmishers at 46:29. They are a sub species of the Jackals (the ones with plasma shields).
I met one of my closest friends through a random game of Swat back on the Xbox 360 days, so I will always love this game.
I'm so excited!!!!
It was a moment to remember.
man seeing that scene with jorge and the girl made me emotional, man these games taught me so much
Halo Reach will always be my 2nd or 3rd favorite Halo game
Yesssssss! Finally, my personal favorite
I AM SO EXCITED! This is my favorite game in the series!
I played this around the time the MCC came out on PC. I remember there was an audio issue that made it so that everytime a cutscene played my ears were assaulted by incredibly loud static like noises
at 1:02:34 you killed it with those headshots playing super well, im trying to get my friend into halo and its sad because they say they like to play with me but they dont like it because they are not as versed with playing video games or using a controller, and dont like feeling like they arent knowing whats going on and dont like not immediately getting how to play, and playing takes so much focus that the story is lost. tried telling them its just by playing you easily will get better and its just like typing and not needing to look down all the time after a bit of practice. its also sad because she seems to not really see video games for the story they can show and the emotions they can bring, and just sees them with the stigma that some people have around them.
lol "I wonder if she's unhinged" - Meg tryna related too hard
with the far northern setting and all the ambient orchestral pieces, the first few levels of reach feel like skyrim
Meg : I think we should talk about it in therapy..
Jun : *immediately looks away*
i loved halo reach and noble team and Noble 6 was my favorite and I remember in 2010 in high school the boys restroom one of the stalls was scratched onto the door Remember Reach 😂
