Warthog Squads are 3 attached to one Hog, so my headcanon is that theres a Trooper back at base putting a wrecked Hog back together, but his otger Squadmates couldnt wait so they LEEROY'd into the battle on the next best thing they could find
This game is very good at instilling dread in you as you play. It feels very somber, introspective and it also feels like watching a train crash in slow motion. Nothing you can do to stop the carnage once it arrives, except *maybe* buy a little more time. We've seen Spartans fall from orbit and walk it off. But for all their strength, NOBLE Team can only hope to hold out long enough to get everyone and everything off planet.
it's kind of a funny tonal whiplash for the series imo. especially with reach being an immediate prequel to CE. the first four games are almost kind of cartoony in comparison to reach's grittiness and wry humor.
I'm so glad you pointed out the style of this music used for Reach. It sounds so haunting and it's the perfect direction for the theme of this game and what Reach is known for narratively. Instead of loud, heroic, hollywood-ish kind of music, it sounds biblical, somber, and eerie most of the time. I know this is going to sound a bit edgy, but the music really emphasizes that "billions are dead and all that's left are ghosts."
those parts where command bugs you about the objective if you haven't gotten it within a few minutes are always really funny. i find myself screaming "I'M WORKING ON IT!!!!!" at the game because i'm usually pinned down by like 3 elites with fuel rod cannons or whatever

What's cooler is that there are different animations depending on the position of your spartan to the enemy, whether you're running at them or not, and the species of what you're assassinating.
You are right with them really portraying the full might of the Covenant here. I think it’s the first time we actually see the Covenant at their height of power. The CSO carrier that destroyed the Grafton just shows how powerful the Covenant is. It’s an 18 mile long ship vs a 1755 ft long ship the CSO Long Night of Solace was able to destroy the Grafton in a matter of seconds. It really starts to show how things for the war have gone so far. Throwing everything at the Covenant just to get one step ahead only to take four steps back when the Covenant retaliate. The Spartans are our best and yet even they struggle to fight the might of the Covenant.

My favorite Reach Weapon is definitely the Needle Rifle. As far as Hunter Killing goes, Reach has some tough Hunters, so I recommend lots of Plasma Grenades and anything explosive. Also, Reach actually does not have the Battle Rifle, only the DMR and Needle Rifle. And that cool sneaky assassination you did to those two Elites on Nightfall, you can actually do that to every enemy, even in combat as long as you hold the melee button for half a second and attack from behind, you don't have to stealth to do it. Iy doesn't work on Hunters or Drones, but it does on the other enemies.
My go to for killing hunters is with explosives. I use all my grenades first and if I have a rocket launcher or fuel rod cannon that makes it even easier.
YES, you are absolutely correct Meg, vibes are way more important than lore. I swear people are always nitpicking about every little item of lore, none of that matters. The point is to tell a good story, if the lore doesn't help that, its useless. The lore has to serve the story, the story can't serve the lore. Just to go back to Star Wars there's plenty of stuff the prequels changed from existing Star Wars lore, especially about what the clone wars were like. The comment about Leia remembering her mother for example that you picked up on, its absolutely worth creating that inconsistency because Revenge Of The Sith is a better movie if Padme dies with Anakin at the end of it. There's stuff in the books that prequels went against, then again George never really considered the books and stuff canon anyways. The Clone Wars series went against a ton of stuff from the books and it tells a better story for it.

Reach was the perfect balance of realistic stakes and mythos in a linear campaign. Every game since has lost subtly and doubled down on lore to be served alongside. When you over-explain myth it just becomes lame.
“Holding on” isn’t how I’d put it cuz they lost practically all their colonies to the covenant. Most of which there wasn’t much of a fight aside from strongholds like reach which even then still fell pretty easily despite how hard everyone fought. If it wasn’t for the great schism, the banished, the flood, or the fact forerunner AI cooperated better with humans the UNSC would have lost. Covenant was fighting on many fronts but was still steam rolling through humanity.
@@hoemie2587 you're right about everything except the "practically all their colonies" part. The covenant glassed 76 human planets, but the UEG has a few hundred colonies. That's still a massive loss of life and most of those planets were strategically necessary, though.
UNSC Frigate Grafton . Crew Complement of somewhere between 50-500. Judging from the pain in Jorge's voice, Grafton was possibly fully crewed and in mere moments we lost hundreds of Sailors. RIP Grafton 🫡

You probably know this but you could check out halo wars cutscenes and movie forward unto dawn (it's free!!) after halo reach and before halo 4 :)
Halo wars 2 (or at least its cutscenes) are pretty important to watch prior to Infinite.
Also Nightfall before 5, altho the only reason to watch would be Locke’s intro. Yet she already knows him from Halo 2 anniversary terminals

There’s one big reason humanity lasted as long as they did: the Cole Protocol.
