I just bought this guitar and it’s awesome!! This is my first guitar with P90s and I can’t believe it took me this long to get one. I have a two standards and a traditional Les Paul and I actually prefer to play the special.

I've just bought one these, and I'm not gonna lie, i love it, its my first p90 guitar, and I wish I hadn't waited so long, running through a Marshall head and 2x12 it sounds amazing, such a versatile guitar, ive never really cared for fat necks on les pauls but this just feels so comfortable to play, the quality is pretty top notch, the case isn't as nice as my other les paul from 2003 but hey how, as it stands its my goto guitar at the minute, if you want one, you won't be disappointed....

Good god I'm got GAS and that custom is actually almost sounding like it's worth the difference. Thought I'd be more into the regular special. Just keep watching this. Good playing!
This has always been my favourite Les Paul. I will buy one in the coming years but not the custom!
Is there any issue stringing the guitar, my dad had a bridge like that, and he had to take out the bridge pickup.
I just got the 2019 LP Special Limited Edition Heritage Cherry. Mines got Burstbuckers.

Just came back from my local shop where I’m waiting for delivery on my new 50s standard. Played one of these and almost ditched the standard!!!! Wow what a great guitar!!! Great price too. But I just couldn’t give up the tobacco sunburst!
If you're old enough to ever watch black and white television for real like us Old-Timers, you would remember that anytime you saw something that was truly a bright white color like a shirt for example it would sort of drown out the whole screen what is like a spotlight drowning the screen in white. So they developed this light yellow color to avoid this, and on black and white TV it looks white. I have a 2014 reissue in the TV yellow nitrocellulose is much thicker, and you cannot see the wood grain through it. Cheers

@@renesupersonic pretty sure vintage ones are coming in at about triple to quadruple the price. Not saying that Gibson's doing anybody favors but for an exact replica of it, it's not all that bad
Well, compared to a CS Les Paul R0 this is the “entry level” priced guitar.
Agreed I’ve played both. $6500 for a new CS and $2499 for a USA. I’ve played both. I’d save the cash for things like food and electricity etc.🤣 Having said that the neck on the CS 57 is nice and fat. The USA is more like a 60s profile.

Awesome guitar. To add the the confusion though, here in the States, the big box guitar stores have the Special Limiteds for $999 (P-90 or Humbuckers) and now this production run guitar for $1599. Nice job.
yeah those are good guitars... but the limited doesn't have hand wired electronics, they are also of lower quality, no binding, different bridge, different tuners, bridge headstock logo etc.. Its def. worth the extra money I'd say. lol however I still think both should be 300 cheaper. I wouldn't mind just getting a used limited and upgrade the electronics

the custom shop Les Paul sounded snappy
So he plays through the stock special on the neck pickup, then picks up the Custom and plays on the treble pickup, and notes it sounds snappier. You think?

It is not - at least mine isn't. It's noisy for sure - part of the charm.
I prefer the cheaper one for driven sounds and the x-pensive one for cleans.

So it's the difference between what is stock & what is custom, I thought that the ESP rep explained the difference's really well at the Namm 18 show...! I really like the yellow one.

My question is are the regular special pick ups potted and the CS unpotted? That makes a heck of a difference having a CS 58 Les paul and the humbuckers are unpotted. Sounds great.
The reason they made this color is because white guitars on tv would just look like a ball of glare because of the lights. So this TV yellow actually allowed for the guitar to be seen and it looked like it was white on tv. That is the story that I have heard.

Question? The USA standard version is a nitro finish as well? I know there are a lot of variables involved but will still “age” with the finish checking and all that good stuff? Love the relic look BUT only if its been earned. Thanks

I have a 60 custom shop, double cut special in tv yellow, and it's great.
Played one at Sam Ash. Was pretty surprised, felt very great. Could NOT believe how heavy it was for a special though! Seriously probably was about 9-10 lbs.
My USA Special weighs 7lbs 4oz and my CS Special weighs 7lbs 9oz.
Damn,I just got mine yesterday. I haven't weighed it but I'm going to guess it's a little under 8 pounds.
Just got the lightest 2019 Les Paul Special out of four available: 7 lbs 6oz. It plays really well but it has a short neck tenon unlike the Custom Shops, but so what. The neck is slightly fatter than my 58' and 59' Custom Shop Les Pauls and has slightly smaller frets. Ideally I would prefer bigger frets and slightly thinner neck...The P-90s and the simple wraptail bridge and all mahogany body with no maple cap seems to give it a distinctly different sound than my humbucker/ ABR bridge loaded Les Pauls. Perhaps less refined and more “rude” sounding in a good way. Score! Bending strings seems to feel easier with the wraptail bridge than ABR/stop tail combo. Perhaps there is slightly less string tension.? Would like to know if somebody knows.
There’s definitely a color diference between them! The custom shop looks like butterscotch and the other is more TVYellow accurate!

Deepak Gurram I would go with the les Paul special.. it’s a solid one piece body and 1k less than the 50’s model if your just starting out .. it a thinner body and a little easier to learn on 🍻

I don't believe the custom shop is higher quality.
I bought one of the non custom shop ones. The routing for the p-90's looked sloppy on a few I saw. And the binding on mine is actually thinner as you go up the neck...it's weird. So the little fret nibs are nearly non existent the further you go up the neck. It's barely noticeable but it's still not a cheap guitar. And I've seen flaws on the new juniors as well. But overall they are great feeling guitars. The special and the junior I bought really resonate and sustain. They sound great unplugged as well. I think you will be very happy with it.
What amp y'all playing through? I love how fuzzed out this guitar makes it! Any specs on what else you're using would be much appreciated.

I’ve played both the CS and the USA. The tuners on the USA are supposed to be Kluson but seem cheap. Go out of tune easily. Change those for 3 in a row Gotohs and add a Mojoaxe compensated bridge. You won’t have tuning issues or intonation issues again on the USA. Not a CS but reasonably cheap fixes.

Just got me a 2019 Gibson LP special TVY..... Love it.... but what is the story with the wood sticking out at the neck/body joint..... The other Specials (LE, traditional) do not have that....
It’s how they were built in the 50s.
The tenon is the full width of the neck like on the original vintage guitars.
I really wonder what makes such a difference in sound between the two

The special and custom have different pickups but does the special have the same pickups as the juniors?
Cam Haines the special has soapbar p90 the junior has a dog ear p90 they’re the same type of pickup but slightly different

The Standard looks better than CS imo. I‘m sure changing the pickups would let them sound nearly 99% the same
You have to be kidding me... the yellow color was used because a white guitar on cathode ray televisions in black and white would bloom under the lights. Basically the same reason that people seen wearing white shirts on tv are actually wearing light blue or very light grey. Under the lights white tends to bloom and make it difficult for the camera man.

If you want to sell the "tribute" model, you must not play the custom shop! Of course you have to pay twice as much to get the Custom Shop 57 but the sound is so awesome!

It was called TV yellow because it was the guitar seen on TV played by Les Paul on his TV show (budget version - he played Standards and Customs) - no professional musician in the mid 50s who appeared on television would buy the cheap version of a Les Paul. Only the one pickup version like a Jr was called the TV Model. I guess they thought Les would play the gold tops and this looked like how a gold top looked on TV. So maybe in a way it is how the finish looked on TV but not because pro musicians were buying them to actually use on TV

They put so much more attention in detail for CS.
Should you pay 1700 extra? It’s your call.
Epiphone's version gets you 95% of the way there for a quarter of the price. Change the pups on the Epi, if you really feel it's necessary, and you get 99% of the way there.
The tv story isn’t true. These were considered beginner guitars so wouldn’t be on tv. Apparently it’s called limed mahogany, most tv cabinets in those days were limed mahogany and was called tv yellow, hence how the guitar finish became tv yellow
At last, the truth... that’s my understanding as well, and the name TV came after it had been on the market for a few years with the limed white finish. The clear over the limed white yellowed with age, and the white darkened and the result is a wheat/dark cream color on the originals that the CS model here tries to reproduce. Anyone into 1950s furniture will recognize this limed finish as very common on furniture at the time.

Absolute bullshit. The colour was TV yellow because the exposure on the cameras back in the day could not process white as a colour. They had to make the colour darker to stop the glare, it would just over expose it and cause crazy glare. Also, these Gibson's are way over priced and so under spec. Bought and tried 2 of them and both had terrible finishes and had to send them back sadly. One of the necks was bent so that was bullshit. Got an Epiphone version and it was solid and I kept it
I don't like the colour at all.
