An "unfair" comparison between my 2020 Gibson Original Les Paul Special in Vintage Cherry and my Fender Custom Shop 1960 slab-board Telecaster in Sherwood Green Metallic. The Fender Custom Shop costs WAY more than the Gibson Original, but can the Gibson still hold its own?
We'll cover fit and finish, setup from the factory, weight, tuning stability, pickups, tones, and more.

Those P-90s are like a hemi just chomping at the but to be opened wide up!

Seems to be the popular thing to hate on Gibson nowadays. Glad to see you are enjoying yours and giving it a fair review. I own a mid 70s Gibson RB-250 that catches a lot of flack in the banjo community, but I enjoy the heck out of it.

I've only had experience with one, so it's a VERY limited sample size, but I love mine.

Greetings for England. The sustain from the Les Paul is awesome. I have a Les Paul Junior with a single P90, it was the dark tone & sustain that prompted me to buy it. Mine is in sun burst but if I had seen the "Red Wood" finish at the time I may have been tempted for that. Great Vid as usual 🙂

Both guitars really complement each other, can get different sounds from each but wow that Telecaster is beautiful.

Since you play the Tele so much more than the LP it must be worth every penny or you'd likely be disappointed and not play it. It must inspire you more and how can you put a price on that? Nice comparison video. Well done. And for the record, I'm a Gibson guy but have no issue with you getting your Tele and paying as much as you want for it. I don't understand these people on the internet complaining about the price of something that they have no interest in buying. 😎

The original series is fantastic I have a 2023 SG Special in the same vintage cherry also with the soap bar p90’s. 6.8 lbs let me tell you about sustainability woah man it’s crazy. Sold my beautiful 2012 Gibson Les Paul standard fireball Burst a week ago and although beautiful every Les Paul with a maple cap I’ve ever had I wind up selling there is just something I dislike about every one I’ve ever owned. that being my 3rd . So with that sale, I picked up a player series butterscotch tele and, it’s fantastic. I have enough left over for a Les Paul special and that’s what I’ve really been wanting, but having the SG special already with the P90’s, I may have to go with a nice Strat.

Gibson does indeed plek every single guitar and has for several years now. I have a 2021 LP Special USA and it very quickly became my #1 guitar. Bone standard, haven't changed a thing, it stays in tune for weeks, plays great with perfect action. The p90's sound fantastic. I love Gibson Custom Shop guitars, they have a feel that is indescribable and for me that's worth paying for; but if I never played another guitar but my Gibson USA LP Special I'd be fine...it's a great guitar.

Awesome video and guitars. Both guitars are so great at what they do and you play really well, too, so that helps. I believe a set neck helps with the sustain. I prefer a low output sound that responds dynamically to one's playing style, but damn the P90 pickups scratch an itch, don't they?

Cheers! You may be right about the set neck. Whatever the reason, my Les Paul Special is SO resonate.

I am mostly a finger style and metal guitarist (I write melodic doom metal and play a number of acoustic styles). My dream guitars would be: Jackson 7 string custom shop, a Taylor baritone acoustic, and Martin D 45. Nice guitars!

Both beautiful guitars! The great thing is that you don't have to choose and both really excel in different areas. I've got both Fenders and Gibsons too and they're all great guitars. I have the opposite situation where I have cheaper MIM Fenders and a more expensive Gibson. But my experience is the same, you aren't really losing much with the less expensive guitars...they're just different. And they all have their uses.

Great video, thanks for doing the side by side. In my younger days I was always a Fender man but if I had to do it over again, I would have gone with Gibson. They are just better rock guitars in my opinion. I was in a prog/post-prog band in college, listening back on the recordings, the Fender adds a twang that I’m just not fond of. .. don’t get me wrong, Fenders are amazing and they have a great sound but I definitely prefer the sound of a Gibson. It all depends on the style you are looking to play, I understand why others prefer Fender, they both have their place.
As always, thanks for your interest in stuff and things. I’m a big fan of stuff and occasionally even things too! ; )

You should look into getting an attenuator for the AC30 so you can open it up without it being unbearably loud. I’m lucky to live in a house with no attached neighbors here in Richmond, and I can usually turn my deluxe reverb up as loud as I want. It just depends on how long I can tolerate that kind of volume hahaha.

All you need now to be 100% fulfilled is a nice American Stratocaster.
    You won’t need anymore.

You need a Fender Deluxe Reverb amp. Or a Princeton reverb.

I'm more of a Lakland and G&L fan over Fender (bass), but I love the Fender Custom Shop and American Vintage basses. They're super quality and really capture the vintage mojo moreso than anything else I've played.

yeah, 2 totally different guitars for 2 different feels. I dont care for electric guitars, but not for the lack of trying. All that said, I do favor the sound of that tele over the gibson. 'm sure that has more to do with my personality and style than it does the quality of the guitar:) I also would much rather play the tele, cuz I bet that gibson weighs 20lbs lol. Gimme an acoustic instrument anyday....Guitar, ukulele, dulcimer, mandolin idc...I just dig the organic sound.

    • @stuffandthingsyoutube
      @stuffandthingsyoutube  Рік тому

Thanks for watching! The Gibson is only 7lbs, 8 oz, so not bad at all. Only 2 ounces heavier than the tele (if I'm remembering correctly).
