    Here it is friends: the new adventure we've been dreaming and saving for since we first met 8 years ago. We've always envisioned moving into the woods by the lake and building our dream tiny cabin as a home base for us to come back to in between our international travels. We cannot wait to have a place to call our own!! We are SO close and cannot believe what a whirlwind of a week this has been. Which property do you think we put an offer on and where would YOU love to build a tiny home?!
    Fingers crossed we'll have more news to share next Sunday!

    Property #3 is clearly the best option given the time of year and how cold it is already. You can clear it out and do a cross removal operation to make it feel more your own-doesn’t seem to need immediate major renovations. But rather than rushing into a purchase, seems too bad you can’t just use your aunt and uncle’s place for the winter or move in temporarily with friends or other relatives. If I lived in Canada instead of California, I would offer! But I have faith in your good sense and good taste. Will look forward to news next week! P.S. I edited a couple of typos and lost your heart stamp--bummer! But happy you read and approved (even with typos).

      They could probably stay with family if they really needed/wanted to. They said in the beginning they want something that would be a bit of a project to keep busy. If #'s in Ontario keep rising, they might be in a quarantine state again, and it's nice to have something to keep busy.

    When there is a path in the woods or in grass that has been “paved” by people or animals walking on it over and over again it’s called a desire line!

      Or an established trail.

    • @jmakes3745
      @jmakes3745 3 роки тому +1

      I'm not sure this is quite right - I've always thought a desire line is when people create their own informal path, as opposed to walking down one which has been created for them, e.g. cutting across a grass verge instead of walking along the pavement.

    • @kelseyvic
      @kelseyvic 3 роки тому +3

      JMakes Exactly, a path that is paved with gravel or cement would not be a desire line. This one does not have gravel or pavement. It was (I assume) made by years of people and/or animals walking the same trail over and over again. A desire line doesn’t have to be unique to every person walking, it is simply a path created due to the erosion of human or animal foot traffic.

      I'm American, but the concept of fixed/variable was vaguely introduced IN my algebra class. It was brought up in word problems when we were studying how to calculate accrued interest over time. That's not the same as teaching about the differences directly, though. It seems like things like those could easily be shoved into a week of economics class. (In Texas, a semester of economics is/was required to graduate.)
      Also, my question is why aren't parents teaching their kids about it when teaching about finance and money sense? It seems they wait until their adult kids are looking at buying to share their experience and wisdom about how it works. Even then, it's only explained when a question or problem comes up in the middle of the process and not ahead of time.

      Same. Our landlady informed us she had promised the apartment to someone else 5 weeks before we were going to renew our lease. We hadn’t planned to buy a house for YEARS. But because rent was about what we’d pay to buy, and the interest rates are so low (we got 2.66%), we knew buying a house would be a lot better, but we’d have to go into debt for the next year or so to do it. Also, we have 6 kids (blended family) and didn’t want to deal with the more uncertain future of renting. We had to put everything on credit cards so we had as much cash as possible. I’m glad we were able to buy but it’s tough.

    I was thinking about Bec's question about "why did we learn this (buying a home knowledge) instead of algebra. I have been fed up with the school system for several years now. What kids need to know is saving money and finance & investing, among other things. Hell, shop s and mechanic classes weren't even offered to girls when I was in HS. Even in college, we only learned to get a degree so we could earn money. But what good is my big fancy degree now when I'm getting older and can no longer work. I am in no way prepared for retirement, but I"m there due to some health problems. Old age sneaks up on you fast when you're least expecting it. You're still young enough to learn some of this, and I'm doing this as I go along and I don't have a man around to fix things. The entire school system and way of thinking needs to change. Anyway, so much for my ranting. Wishing you luck in your hunt for a cabin.

      So i got to thinking. Becs phrase 'to pave the way' was used correctly in its metaphorical use of someone going first and making it easier. But eamon is correct in the literal sense that nobody put down pavers. 'Someone's blazed the trail' would been a more correct way of putting it, as well as what was said above, marked the trail/path.

    Eamon, the "road has been paved" by previous passersbyers footprints, not paved with cement. It's a figure of speech. This is a really cool video. Land ownership is always a good investment. It would be a good idea to use some of the land to build a second structure to use as a Merchandising store. If you two build it others will come. Good luck with everything.

When you show us vidoes and try to make them seem perfect, it makes me feel inferior to you guys and makes me think that having a van would be too much work. So, if you do not want to use a coated or cast iron pan you have to get a very clean heavy gage pan (no old stuck burned oil or food) hot before adding the oil.... not so hot it smokes but hot where water drops will sizzle. Then add your oil and coat the pan and let it get hot.... grape seed oil is great with high temp cooking... doesn’t burn. Once your oil is hot then add your food, again not raging hot on high temp, rather let it heat on a med-high temp or lower if your burners tend to be hotter than most. If done correctly you will not have any sticking and it will be just as good as a coated pan! Hope this helps.
    All the properties look amazing...it will be a journey! Best wishes!

When in an aggressive market like that, you can still take your time to make the choice and get your family and friends to check out the homes. I'd say cabin # 3..... it does look like it's going to be quite a bit of work, BUT, at least you already have a house and you don't have to build from the ground up!
    Make sure you get a thorough home inspection..... do not scrimp on that!! Super key, especially with a cabin that was built in the 70s..... and, you guys also said that the owners had not been in the cabin for a few years, so you'd want to have a thorough check.
    Have them really go over plumbing & electrical! And, make sure you get a trusted home inspector ( one that comes highly recommended ).... our realtor told us that some just sign off at times and do not check all. Better to be safe than sorry.
