I keep hearing better and better news about Timorasso, but alas tis hard to find. 🙁 I think that the amount being produced has gotten to the amount that you can find it outside of very specialist and boutique independent wine merchants. It does sound quite amazing and intriguing, as do most pre-phylloxera cultivars being brought back from the brink of extinction. Hope I get a chance to taste it in the near future. Just bought two bottles of 2019 Mariotto Timorasso Derthona Pitasso, prompted by this video (it was what was available at a local shop where I had another order in). I was a bit concerned about the age, but after opening one of them I think that these are beautiful right now. Just like you said, there's that petrol nose, followed by nuts, honey, dried apricots. Round palate with a nice acidic backbone and that minerality you mentioned. Thank you for the impetus, I will definitley seek this grape out in the future!
Great content! I've only tried Timorasso once, and I was disappointed, but I'm definitely going to give it another try! Also, glad Fontanafredda performed well- they get the rep they deserve. I had a1985 from them in a Barolo tasting not long ago that held its own against much pricier bottles including Conterno Cascina Francia. Keep up the great work!
Watching your enthusiasm in this video in particular was a treat. I'm glad Derthona is getting its deserved attention, although I'm not looking forward to the inevitable price explosion on Colli Tortonesi/Derthona. In a year's time the Wine Investors will be buying this up, and regular folks will no longer be able to afford it. At ~$40/bottle, these wines are still accessible, but I fear they will be $80/bottle soon. The producers can't be blamed; they are right to keep yields low, and they are making great juice. Unfortunately, supply/demand may soon put Derthona out of reach for many of us. So, buy a bottle while you still can, folks (:

I'm so glad I found this grape while looking for new wines online and fell in love with the Derthona from Walter Massa. Timorasso or Dethrona as it’s called by some sounds very interesting. I trust your opinion. And wines around this price point are the sweet spot of wine world to me, very interesting typically, and are not crazy expensive.

If I am deep into reds but want to try a white,what is something that I can find at most grocery stores that would get me started?maybe list 2 or 3 to increase the percentage chance of them having one. With reds I like italy,nebbiolo,sangiovese..also,willamette valley pinot noir,I can take or leave cali reds. With the whites I have had,I am not a fan of those tropical fruit type notes you get,or at least I got,from a few varietals. I tend towards the dryer. I appreciate any help.
Just had my first Derthona, Timorasso the other week, not knowing anything about it. But I loved it, rich with vivid tropical fruit; great strukture and also a pretty nuanced wine

I got nervous when I saw the title of the video. I had a sinking feeling that you were going to shine a light on Colares. While they absolutely deserve very high praise, there just isn’t enough for a boom of excitement! So, I’m relieved!

Happy to make a cameo appearance! 😅 And I'm in the same boat as you, Timorasso quickly surged up my list of favorite Italian white grape varieties. I also think it shows its best when treated with either stainless steel or neutral wood, combined with some bottle age.
Sounds like a perfect wine for me at this stage, I adore Riesling and can handle the acidity and since last year I've started to pay more attention to Chardonnay and having a blast with it.
May I ask if you have multiple copies of each wine? The wines that you take out of the paper sleeve look perfectly sealed. This means that after opening the opened bottle, you place it in a different place and put a new one in the paper bag. otherwise, thanks for your show and your explanations

Even if your tasting was very good, you have missed La Colombera e Claudio Mariotto, for me two outstanding Timorasso producers. Really Fontanafredda Timorasso 97 points? Is a big mass producer, often of not so great quality wines (btw is the same owner of Eataly)
I love Colombera and she kept telling me she would send me samples for this but never did. I did score Fontanafredda high (not 97 tho) and that’s how it showed blind - call it like I taste it…

Don't discount Pecorino. Makes a great white wine and blends well with chardonnay
There are some featured in previous videos! I like it but doesn’t come near the greatness of Timorasso IMO
