But that's not how those cars were, we have to compare how they really were, we can't say "Now all with the same v10 or v12 engine." We can't say that either because they weren't like that and they aren't.
Even with slicks, the F2004 would still be slower than the RB19. Slicks increase grip, but they don't generate downforce. The modern cars are heavier, but they also have much more complex aerodynamic designs that generate much more downforce, but at the same time, they're about as fast in a straight line as the 2004 cars were. The modern cars have more grip and downforce, thus higher cornering speed. Just because you saw the F2004 with slicks destroy lap records in Assetto Corsa doesn't mean it would happen in real life.
@@expiredwater4118the F2004 is quicker than the RB19. There are 2 tracks which haven’t changed since 2004 which are Monaco and Monza, polar opposite circuits. Here’s the fastest laps for each cars. Monaco: F2004: 1:14.4 RB19: 1:16.2 Monza: F2004: 1:21.0 RB19: 1:25.2 This is all in spite of no drs available, grooved slicks designed to slow the cars down and no ERS system.
@@expiredwater4118 you have clue. Downforce is not the GOAL, it is only a TOOL. The goal is MECHANICAL GRIP - and that can be increased in many ways, including DOWNFORCE, but also including grippier TYRES, which slicks are compared to grooved tyres. The difference is - most ways to increase GRIP via increasing DOWNFORCE alsoo increase DRAG, which you don't want. Slick tyres however only increase the GRIP. Which means that F2004 with slick tyres can run Spa 10s faster than RB19 (according to sim, just look for it)
Now,add to the time done by the Maserati and the two Lotus cars, that the Spa they would run was twice the lenght of post 78 Spa(14 Kilometers or 8,761 miles for the pre-1978 Spa and around 7 kilometers or 4,352 miles with the varying variants of Spa since 1978) ,when F1 was also and unnoficial endurance race.
The Williams FW14B model is too slow. 5-6 seconds a lap slower yeah but not 10 seconds. It was a very rapid car for its time and held some lap records for years and years possibly into the 2000s. Edit - 5-6 seconds slower than the 2013 Red Bull.
Amazing video, as always! Weird suggestion: could you show a race between a current F1 car and another F1 car traveling at a constant speed equal to the average speed of the lap record of that track??? For example, a RB19/F2004 on slicks going against a W11 constantly traveling at 264.4 km/h (average speed of the 2020 lap record) at Monza I don't know if that's possible, but I'd love to see how the constant speed cars makes up for that big gap on straights going irrationality fast on corners.😂😂😂

Another great comparison video...... wasn't expecting the 2000s car to be faster than the 2010s car
2010’s had many restrictions
2010 had similar downforce but with a lot less power

That’s the MGU-H that muffles the sound. It’s gone in 2026 with new engine regs
