Got to meet Jim Butcher exactly once at a writers conference. Most enlightening advise on writing I’ve ever had. And I left after listening for so long to his voice and humor, and the thought game that, “He is Harry Dresden.” Same humor and personality practically.
James brings Harry to life. It’s always nice to have a narrator that embodies the roll so much I forget it’s being narrated and it becomes a movie in my imagination
One of my favorite things about the audiobook series is how Marsters continually improves from one to the next: all the voices become more distinct and the pronunciations improve. The rhythm by the 4th to 6th books kept me hooked and immersed all the way through.
You'll likely never find a more perfect combination of speaking voice and writing styles again. The combination of the way James speaks and the voice Jim writes with is just a magic combination for audiobooks. Its the only series I'll always tell people to listen to instead of reading and so far everyone I've turned on to the series has agreed
I’ve listened to almost 10 of the books in the last three months so great to have a series of books to listen to while I sit on my 12 hour shift doing guard duty at night
The Dresden Files were an addiction for me. I've couldn't stop reading the entire series (and I had only done that for Lord of the Rings). Thank you, Jim Butcher! So glad to hear you have new books out. And James Marsters, you gave 'Angel' so much humor...especially the puppet episode! Love ya both!!!
Hey, James! I just want to say, I have been reading the Dresden Files for years, almost since the beginning. Somehow, you succeeded in catching hold of the voice that was already in my head for Harry, and from that point on, you became my gold standard for narrators. You are awesome.
I have never actually *read* a Dresden File book. I have only *listened* to them. James Marsters has raised the bar audio book narration. I have actually returned an audiobook within 5 minutes if the narrator doesn't hold up to James' style. James is able to bring Jim Butcher's imagination come to life. I can't wait to listen to more Harry Dresden. Oh and I can't wait to to hear a book on Toot-Toot and Mister!

Mr. Butcher, though I hope that's not too formal, these audiobooks have been my lifeline. I use them to go to sleep every night, and they have made it so I can "read" the whole series. Pick up where I left off. I have a recent diagnosis that makes it very difficult for me to read more than a few pages at a time, and they have been so much help to me in the pandemic. Mr. Marsters, you have made Harry come alive in my thoughts, and thank you for giving him that distinctive voice that also sounds so familiar. (I won't be watching this until I finish Cold Days, Skin Game, and Peace Talks, but you can bet I will come back to this in a couple weeks.)

This is the best interview ever! I've loved James Marsters' reading of every single Dresden book so much, there's no way I can read them any other way now. When I pick up a book again, I always hear James's portrayals in my head. And me too, James, I LOVE BOB THE SKULL! But your characterization of him is probably the chief reason for this. I love having James read me the Dresden Files while I work. But my first experience with Butcher was the Codex Alera. I got to read 2 of the books while I was in prison. When I got out and finally got me a job and had some extra money, I went to Books-A-Million and bought the whole series. Read them all in like the span of 2 months. Then started me an Audible account and bought the series. And I have to say, I could listen to Kate Reading read the phone book to me.

He apparently did a short story. I haven't read it yet but I want too
OR Jared Kincaid.
Or… story’s about other wizards like Morgan, Ebeneezer McCoy, Martha liberty
@@theo-jamesmoulton2000 Kincaid for certain. He was absent in Battlefield and I’d love to learn more of his backstory and what he does when he’s not protecting Ivy
Goodman is my favourite extra character
Two masters having a great chat. When he started reading I got chills. Jim reminds me of Mac; I could see him polishing glasses behind the bar.
So very cool!
Gods, I love them both. I got to meet Jim once. I was SOOOO nervous, but he was super chill, and just a fantastic person. Got to meet James once, too, and he was so cool and loved his fans.
I love the Harry Dresden books ... and James, you ARE the audio I hear now. I also NEVER confuse when you switch characters and I LOVE IT 🥰
I would love to see these two just have like a 2 hour conversation about Dresden and pop culture in general
"Oh, I'm not conscious of much."
Laughed in my morning cocoa. 😄
Thank you both
Loved that his cat photo bombed at the end. Great Author and great reader. Keep it up, love your work.
James, you read these books brilliantly!
This mutual admiration show is so cute. And I’m so glad the plans for the series still go out as far as originally planned. For some reason when I finished Battle Ground, I thought it actually seemed like it could be an end point for the series and then I screamed and my head exploded. 🤪
The Dresden Files is such an amazing series! Marsters does a great job with the narration too.
Epic! Aaaaaaand wow, Jim's working on a Toot/Mister crossover! Please have Mister dialogue that Toot can interact with!!!
Have you read The Aeronaughts Windlass... I reckon if the cat in that is anything to go by it will be awesome! Imagine Mister and Mouse having a chat
@@matthewfitzpatrick5557 YES!!!
Still 5 books to go and the big trilogy at the end. I love this man.
Amazing interview. Please don’t stop Jim!
I love your books and I love James reading.
I can’t wait for the next one. Love love Battleground and Peace Talks. Can’t wait
This interview made me SO happy!! I love Jim's books and James Marsters reading! It's the perfect combination! I agree with Mr. Marsters.... The series shouldn't ever end! So much love for this video!!!
This is one of the best things I've seen!!! :D
I can't believe The Dresden Files are 20!!!
This was a great convo. In as much as Jim Butcher is Dresden, so is James Marsters.
I could have listened to this for HOURS! Thank you James and Jim....
I'm 70, saw Jim at Seattle's Norwescon years ago. Now about 3/4ths thru Battle Ground, #17 (have read in order). So exciting, love the characters and the fleshing out of historical, mythological beings! Can't put it down!!
One of my favorite series of all time, finishing up my 3rd read through and nearly caught up to Battleground and Peace Talks. What a wonderful interview.
Another great series is Mercy Thompson by Patricia Briggs! She also has The Alpha omega series. Both are great.
OMG! So glad I stumbled across this interview! I LOVED James Marsters ever since I watched the BTVS series. I fell in love with Spike. When I discovered the audio books (oh so many years ago on CD!) I was thrilled that James was reading them. Now, 20 years later, I still love listening to James read the Dresden files. I was disappointed that the TV series never took off. I still have those episodes downloaded and will watch them occasionally. I absolutely agree with James too....I love Bob the Skull. I always enjoy when you include him Jim! Keep up the great work you two!!! Looking forward to the rest of the series! Cheers!
This was an amazing interview! I love Jim Butcher and James Marsters' portrayal of the characters in the Dresden Files! It's also heartening to see how much of a fan Marsters is of Butcher!
Thank you butcher for this saga, and thank you marsters for bringing it to life.
I had nightmares about the last book. That's how good and captivating it was.
I love that fact that James stumbles over a simple word, little. I totally have a simple word I stumble over, filter.
This interview made me so happy & I was nerding out so much! Sad to think there's, what, 4 books left?
If he sticks to his plan it'll be 5 Files books and then The Big 3
I have listened to the Dresden Files probably 8 times over, and the narration just gets better every single time I hear it.
I love this conversation between you guys. I am a huge fan of the Dresden files, first in print then on kindle and now on Audible. I start from the beginning each time a new book comes out and read/listen from book one though to the latest novel. It will be a sad day when the final book is released. I really hope the 25 book plan becomes 30 or more.... unlike POLKA "Dresden never dies!"
Been a fan of James for years. I still have all of the full sets of Buffy and Angel in my DVD shelves. Now he's by basis for comparison for any audio book I might listen too. Thank you for years of entertainment. And thank you Jim , for creating a such an amazing world with amazing characters and and giving us years of just phenomenal content. I've listened and/or read thru this series 4x and am starting again. It never gets old. From the bottom of my heart and forever more , thank you💜📖📚
Thank you, Jim and James. You are keeping me sane during this insane time.
Looking forward to these books and the audio books has kept me sane the last 10 months. Thank you to both of you for that day of sunshine.
Butcher and Marsden are both the BEST at what they do!
I love the voice acting and the books are incredible I'm thankful we have both.
I recently got one of my NCOs into the Dresden Files. He's loving them!
These two fantastic people put together are nothing short of a gorgeous mix!
Great conversation! Thank you both for your time today. I love your books, Jim ... I'm already anticipating the next one. ;-)
I read the first 7 or so books, then restarted a few years later on audiobooks. And for me personally, James Marsden is who I think of more than Jim as bringing Harry to life. This is not a reflection on Jim, but I am an auditory person and it really resonates more to me in this format.
Such a spontaneous, fun, humble man. Love ya you maniac!
I have the upmost and utmost respect for both of you. I have been listening to the books on Audible literally 12 times now or more. I hope that this series never end... OH and a reboot of the show! please please please!
This was great! Butcher is such a class act!
