I got to spend two years in Korea as a member of the US Army. I loved going down to Seoul from Uijeongbu. I enjoyed exploring the city. Even got to go to Seoul Tower. I never felt unsafe. I left in 1998. Would love to go back and see how it's changed.
@Ernie Kileste Equally both country are safe. Look up President Park Chung Hee, he pretty much swept out the gangs back in 60's and putting them into military boot camps. That's is why today South Korea there are not too many gangs there. Most of the crimes they do are scamming and phishing.
@Ernie Kileste Uhm, we were talking about internet speeds? And talking about relative safety? I have been to both, and both are very safe and I even consider them 2 of the safest countries in Asia and I think there is negligible differrence on how safe they are in my experience.
But korean old ppl do hate us, japanese... Sorry about the history between two country.. sorry about what our army do your ppl.. hope both be good together
@@betaz1000 I think Korean old people just hate Japanese "goverment and historical problems". They are not interested in japanese normal people. These days many young Korean know well about Japanese culture. They quite like such as Japanese animations or dramas etc. I know Korean and Japanese can become a best friend in other countires. I also know how many Japanese are kind. I hope that Japanese know about why Korean don't like Japanese goverment. I also wish that Japanese know about true history. please tell me why some Japanese hate Korean
Balen ciaga Bukchon Hanok village, Gangnam District and N Seoul Tower I would recommend. But if you can, you must go to Songdo, a fascinating modern city (where I stayed) pretty close to the airport. Search it up and you’ll find stunning photos.

The more surprising thing is that some comments blame either S.Korea or Japan beyond what this video is talking about. Please don't fight. Each city has each own beauty
In this situation, your remarks only sound disgusting. Koreans are childish. Because they are fighting and they always want to add extra words. 이 상황에서 당신의 말은 역겨운 소리 만 들립니다. 한국인은 유치합니다. 그들은 싸우고 있고 항상 여분의 단어를 추가하고 싶어하기 때문입니다.
The 34m people living in the Tokyo metropolitan region (as quoted in this video) includes neighbouring cities too I think e.g. Yokohama (~3.5m population)
최병삼 . Fun fact. Korea has a higher radiation compared to Japan. However Tokyo has a higher radiation rate than Seoul. You won the battle, Japan won the war
As someone who has lived in Japan and visited Seoul I agree with everything except the part about Tokyo being a bigger partying city. In my experience Seoul is more geared towards drinking and nightlife.

Japan for experiencing oriental culture and well reserved nature Korea for hanging out club drinking party and funny people Heard about it from my forigner friends perspective
Yes I agree, I am Korean and both countries have their own beauty and vibes. So some people like Japan some people like Korea. And that's it. No need to compare this and that
one japanese agreed. as we live in the 21 century, we've got to live now and look for tomorrow rather than vilify each other. it's true there were disgusting events in the past and it's important to acknowledge what happened in the last century. it cannot be justified. i'm sorry for them. but it's also true that we, who live today, are not responsible for that history. We all were born without any discrimination, hostility or nationalism, and it's us who communicate. So why not stop blaming current generations for past transgressions?! i hope japan and korea someday become good friends ;) sorry for my poor english but i'm glad if you understand what i meant to say
Korea hosted is correct; the only reason was that Japan wanted to be part of hosting a World cup and Koreans were nice enough to brought on the table. Korea could have easily reject the Japnaese offer but Koreans didn't.
SANGKUK JOE 90% comments are made by Koreans. You can see the 'internet speed' comments. They've dreaming of over Japan. The 'internet speed' is one of the tool for dreaming over Japan.
Don’t start such a ridiculous fight guys. You think you guys can be “superior” only by having faster internet in your country? It’s not YOU that built up that technology and so the speed has nothing to do with your own superiority. The argument seems totally nonsense to me.
Currently in Seoul and absolutely love it here, heading to Tokyo in a few days and looking forward to that too. Not looking forward to going home though

@@guozhou8114 I have no reason to degrade Japan or Tokyo. Tokyo seems to be an attractive city, but I have been there only a couple of times so I have restricted experience. I love Seoul and NY because I loved living in those two cities but that doesn't mean I dislike Tokyo.
I have lived in Seoul and I have visited Tokyo when I was in the Army; both are amazing places. It has been so many years since I have been there, I miss it. . .
One of the best parts of joining the military is getting to travel all over the world. I'm glad you had the opportunity. Thank you for your service, and I hope you get to return soon.
Both cities are respectable. Compare to other mega cities, wealth of peoples are relatively equal. And overall both cities has low crimes rate especially with drug related issues. I hope that they both keep that way.
04#?20tivo !?32#? That’s incorrect. There were 15,600 members of designated bōryokudan organized gangs in Japan as of the end of 2018, a year-on-year decrease of 1,200. Over the past 15 years, the number of gang members has been steadily decreasing. The number of those described as “associates” has also decreased over the past eight years, and now stands at around 14,900. Both are at their lowest points since records were first kept in 1958. In recent years, arrests of members of gang members and associates have also been decreasing. Such arrests fell year-on-year by 856 in 2018, to 16,881. The main criminal offenses involving gang members were assault (2,042 arrests), theft (1,627), fraud (1,749), extortion (772) and violations of the Stimulants Control Act (4,569). As someone who lives in "city" of less than 100,000 people, going to Tokyo was a huge shock. People and buildings as far as the eye could see. I went to the viewing deck of Tokyo Tower and the city just seemed to go on forever in every direction. Cool stuff.
I love Korean food. I want to enjoy the authentic taste of Korean food! But I haven't visited Seoul yet... So I want to visit Seoul as soon as possible! From Japan
I lived in Seoul for 2 years. Was a great period in my life. Food is amazing and cheap, transportation is clean, affordable and reliable. I've been to Tokyo multiple times, also has great food but is pricier overall. They are both great cities. Koreans are a lot more conservative than Japanese in my opinion.
Seoul should get Nobel prize, world No.1 city. Capital of the earth. Seoul has culture&art more than Paris, important more than New York , more economy&safer than Tokyo , bettar internet speed and subway system than London. That's why Seoul is the best. Doesn't matter what you'll say. I know All countries jealous to South Korea&Seoul❗️Because South Korea has internet speed , clean , safety and subway system. This is the only important things compare to other cities. Most greatest race. 1970 to 2010 Seoul was modernized. Very speedy. But how to modernized just in 40yrs is pure Korean own power. We've never learned by any other countries , never referenced in the world role model city, never copied or improved another cities way. That's why all we need Nobel prize.
As a Korean American with Japnese relatives, I lived and loved both cities so much. History or territorial disputes aside, we really need to love all. When it comes to politics, I am sure everyone got things to say and I too encourage that since debate is always the key for further development. But honestly if you've been or lived in both cities I am sure you'd see their uniqueness and get to love them all. 🙏
definitely true. and let's mind that both comments from Japan or Korea does not represent the opinion of the majority. in fact we Japanese citizens generally like Korea (or are neutral minded,) and i hope the same is true for Koreans

I visited both cities last summer. I’ve got to say that Koreans are extremely friendly, and made me feel home from day one. I enjoyed my time in Seoul like in no other city. Tokyo was a bit different; coming from a mega city myself, I expected Tokyo to be loud and chaotic, and was shocked when I found out it wasn’t any of that AT ALL. Still, the city itself is awesome, it carries the perfect combination of development, technology and culture. I’d recommend anyone to visit both cities. Love to 🇯🇵 and 🇰🇷 from 🇲🇽
I absolutely love Tokyo (minus the train during peak time). I've never been to Seoul, but I'm planning to eventually. I lived about an hour away from Tokyo, so I visited almost every week. I miss the place.
DARK SIDE no, let’s not hate anyone, apart from this insignificant being. I was very pissed at their comment on hating Japanese as well. I reported it to YT, but it seems it doesn’t incite enough hatred to be blocked or at least removed. So, please pay no attention to it.
Seoul has the largest drinking and partying area in the world(at least I think). A walk from Ehwa university to Hapjeong station would take like an hour through continuous cafes, shops, pubs and clubs. And thats just walking in a straight line. Just discovering all the streets it would probably take a day

I'm from Hong Kong (and have been to Macau once)~ Can you please do Beijing VS Shanghai? Both are modern Mainland Chinese cities I have been to in my childhood and are considered rivals (HK is also a rival of Shanghai). Sadly, I don't have a Patreon because I am still a minor… P.S. Personally I prefer Tokyo,I think is more cool than Seoul. But I think Seoul is one of the most amazing cities in the world.I choose Tokyo cause I’m obsessed with the futuristic and retro futuristic style of this city.I think Seoul is too much like European or American cities, maybe cause they wanted to copy from us the life style and the way we live in our cities. But I’m Italian so I’m European and I can say that Tokyo has something more.. is so different from the rest of the capitals,I can’t explain. Tokyo has a unique aesthetic and we cannot ignorate that is very well organised, there are around 40million people in Kanto region and the megalopolis of Tokyo/Yokohama/Saitama/Chiba/Yokosuka is so perfect and liveble and clean, organised and rich.there is no comparison..Tokyo is almost perfect. But I love Seoul too :)
Your speaking that because your Japanese haha. I love both cities but I never got the chance to go to Tokyo because my parents are cautious of earthquakes. I’m Korean however but I love the culture in your country! It’s amazing!
한국KOREA typical anti-Japanese Korean who jump to any comments slandering Japan. Tokyo (and Souel, of course) are both in fact one of the most developed cities. dispute ended.
Tanabe was right. tokyo is a not so good city to going. Labyrinthic streets, people who behave like robots and who hates learning english, expensive services, yakuza gangs, brutal cops, tiny appartments, japanese-only places... Seoul is a slightly western-friendly city in comparison
pre-modern Seoul : capital city → royal culture --- palaces , city cultures Tokyo : shogunate government city → Edokko's mass culture --- ukiyoe , fast food(sushi,tempura...) 2020 Seoul : city culture ---modern buildings , beauty industries , K-Dramas and K-Pops , hi-tech Tokyo : Japanese mass culture --- unique service , unique fashion , manga and anime , financial industries , I think
As a Korean, Tokyo was very nice and quiet. Plus! Osaka is very nice too. When I took a walk with my vodka near the lake in Osaka, it was perfect! Japanese foods are very delicious! I want to recommend Japan trip if you didn't go Japan!

Lived in Seoul for a year and loved it. Too damn close to North Korea for my liking (only 35 miles from the NK border) but you'll never know it living in Seoul. Tokyo does have Godzilla though so maybe that's the trade off...lol. I'll take Seoul!!!
Clear winner: Tokyo ✌🏽 I've been to both, but to be honest Tokyo has better everything. It has personality, it's more fun to explore all the weird shit out there, the food is just on another level (sorry) and the language is a lot more beautiful (my opinion)
The 2002 World Cup was hosted jointly by South Korea and Japan. Tokyo itself didn't have a venue, but there were three venues within the Greater Tokyo area.
The 2002 FIFA World Cup was shared by South Korea and Japan. Yokohama and Saitama(both of which were hosts)are suburbs of Tokyo so technically Tokyo did host the World Cup too.
Both are actual cities, not suburbs. They are outside of the Tokyo Metropolis and belong to the Kanagawa and Saitama prefectures respectively. But it’s true they belong to the Greater Tokyo Area so you are not 100% wrong.
As a Korean, I have my biases towards Seoul, but Tokyo is definitely an amazing place to be. There’s a reason why it’s one of the most popular tourist destinations in Asia, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Tokyo dwarfs Seoul as a cultural and economic hub one day
Fun fact: Tokyo actually stretch up to a thousand kilometers to the Pacific to the island of Ogasawara, Iwo Jima (1,200 km), Minamitori (1,848 km) and Okinotori (1,740 km)
I love these. I constantly find myself browsing for videos I haven't watched yet but I think I 've watched them all. The only thing I can do now is to wait for the next one 😖. Thank you for the vids Mr Best.
I do feel incredibly lucky to be living in Tokyo for 3 years now. I have been to Seoul once, and I cant wait to take another trip there again. Its very cheap to fly between both cities. Both Japanese and Korean food is just the best and very different comparing the two. Luckily Tokyo also has plenty of Korean restaurants. I love both cities but i think i like living in Tokyo more, only cuz im use to it. and used up half of my life learning the language. HA!. Also you should have compared people. Generally Japanese people are pretty reserved and keep to themselves, but also extremely generous and kind. Also customer service in Japan is the best in the world id have to say. While I feel like Koreans are much more outgoing and easier to talk to and make friends with.
@김범주;He is an amateur in economics and diplomacy, but he is an excellent man who planned a socialist organization and uses facts and lies to manipulate people. And because he worships the leader of the North, he spares no tribute. In recent years, the Korean people have been awakened from brainwashing because the government's lies have been revealed on many youtube programs.
I'm a simple Korean living in Seoul, and my gf is living in Tokyo. She is Japanese, we've met last year in uni and we've promised to visit each other's country in this summer. And see what's happening right now. Every single day we talk in phone and cry. We hope the situation get better until the winter, so we can meet again before I go to military. Wear the masks, wash your hands, and avoid crowded places folks. PLEASE. None of them cannot be lacked. Please consider each other and share the responsibility. I'm deadly depressed right now, but I sincerely hope that tomorrow will be better than yesterday. Stay safe, BE RESPONSIBLE for yourself and your loved ones. Much love from Seoul, Korea. 🇰🇷❤🇯🇵❤🌍🌏🌎
what happens if people dont wanna waste their time in the military? what is the general view among korean boys about military service? do most like doing it?
Chris Choi most of them hate it, of course. however they don’t take action to fix or improve it because many of them don’t care about future generation or even worse, they want to they suffered just like they did.(there is famous korean proverb describe it perfectly. “my stomach hurts when my cousin buy a land” this literally mean “i’m not happy with other’s happiness” it pretty much sum up most koreans mindstate imo) oh, and the answer for “what happen if they don’t serve?” is, they go prison. when the imprisonment over, they are free, but also they will live as criminal so..
As a five year resident of Korea, I can definitely say, shitting on Japan, while also demanding they get every benefit from them, is a national sport here. It's like borrowing someone's pen then talking shit about them 😅😅
@@ceebee8218 Given the history between the two countries and the geopolitical climate, as a resident of Korea for five years I'm really astounded that you are surprised and find it in the least bit entertaining; It's not. Good video!! Spent a year in Korea while stationed there in the US Army 1992-1993. Was stationed at Camp Castle with 2nd Engineer Battalion, 2nd Infantry Division. Largest city was Tong du chon, which was about a mile walk south, just outside Camp Casey. The "D", or DMZ, was roughly 15 miles north and got to visit there. You could actually walk into North Korea, albeit roughly 12' because you were literally inside a building with a white line painted on the floors/walls/and long table depicting the actual border - got to walk around the North Korean side of the table. Have plenty of memories of the night life in Korea. made down to Seoul a few times and it is a very beautiful city - walked just about everywhere and had visited most of those places shown in the video. Tried to get to Tokyo, put only visited flying into/out of Seoul for was using military transport. Flying in: could not leave the immediate vicinity of the military side of the airport. Flying out: took too damn long to get through customs and time put aside to explore Tokyo was wasted going through customs and literally running from one end of the airport terminal to the other to catch a flight to USA. Was able to see Mount Fuji and some of the city.
Interesting video. I've been to Tokyo a couple of times, and love it. I currently live in Seoul, and definitely enjoy it. Not sure about Tokyo being a more "party" city though. Koreans party HARD. I've never seen a city more drunk than Seoul on the weekend.
U definitely haven’t been to Shibuya and shinjuku at night and went into their clubs this is were u find the park night life of Japan it exists trust me and there be plenty of drunk men any where else your not gonna find any crazy party people reason being is most of the younger generation live in shibuya and shinjuku seeking better jobs and the city life.
Actually Seoul got its name from an ancient name referring to Silla(신라), which was Seo-na-beol(서나벌), which was later shortened to just "Seo-beol"(서벌). Then after South Korea was established, they chose a variant of that ancient name, "Seo-ul"(서울), as the name for their capital. The name itself doesn't mean "the capital" in Korean. It's just a variant of an ancient name.
I love both countries. They have their own vibes, pros and cons so stop fighting because it's worthless and would only make the two countries more far apart. -from a aussie korean guy
i have visited both cities but i was too young to know anything about them, I would definitely visit them again in the near future when covid or travel restrictions are over
Hey hey hey. As a Japanese, Japanese and Koreans should stop fighting in the comment section. We can all agree that his pronunciation is the thing the fight about. 😂😂😂
Correction. Fifa World Cup 2002 was co-hosted by Korea and Japan. Initially, Japan became the host nation. Then Korea kicked in and said, they want to share the World Cup with Japan, because the Deputy President of FIFA was a Korean. Korea insisted to use the name, Korea and Japan, instead of vice versa, while the final match was hosted in Japan.
Inaccurate description. When Korea and Japan bidded for the 2002 World Cup in the early 1990's, it nearly went to Japan solely because João Havelange, the chief of FIFA back then, was a Brazilian who personally liked Japan. But others such as the AFC, and the assumed next FIFA chief in-line (Lennart Johansson) rooted for Korea as they had actual résumé in football and the World Cup in contrast to Japan at that time. When Japan got disqualified again for the 1994 World Cup whereas South Korea entered their 4th World Cup the general jist on who should host the next World Cup swayed to Korea which Japan quickly pleaded for co-hosting. Back-then AFC chief Peter Velappan came to Korea asking for the same offer as well to ease tensions between the two countries. Korea accepted as they didn't want to risk Havelange's decision-making.

The FIFA 2002 World Cup was actually divided between Korea and Japan. great video though!
Seoul hosted the World Cup but Tokyo did not. Instead, 3 stadiums in the neighboring counties hosted the World Cup.
Yes it was. But it wasn't in Tokyo.
@@iammrbeat Didn't know that!
To add to that, the final game of the 2002 World Cup was in the Tokyo metro area (in Yokohama) though not in Tokyo proper.

As a Korean, Tokyo was very nice and quiet. Plus! Osaka is very nice too. When I took a walk with my vodka near the lake in Osaka, it was perfect! Japanese foods are very delicious! I want to recommend Japan trip if you didn't go Japan!
Yes! Osaka is said that it has the best food culture in Japan!
japan isn't worth it for one reason: it's more expensive than korea
big respect for both countries for how they manage to recover after the wars. all planet needs to learn from them. I really wish to visit both of them. hopefully after Corona virus I can go.. all the best from Romania
Lived in Seoul for a year and loved it. Too damn close to North Korea for my liking (only 35 miles from the NK border) but you'll never know it living in Seoul. Tokyo does have Godzilla though so maybe that's the trade off...lol. I'll take Seoul!!!
I been in both cities and Japan is much better and not just because I'm Japanese american
Nhật Bản nguy hiểm bức xạ

Japan is just..... way better

Much love from Seoul, Korea.

is it possible for korean boys to avoid the military? like without revoking citizenship
what happens if people dont wanna waste their time in the military? what is the general view among korean boys about military service? do most like doing it?
Chris Choi most of them hate it, of course. however they don’t take action to fix or improve it because many of them don’t care about future generation or even worse, they want to they suffered just like they did.(there is famous korean proverb describe it perfectly. “my stomach hurts when my cousin buy a land” this literally mean “i’m not happy with other’s happiness” it pretty much sum up most koreans mindstate imo)
oh, and the answer for “what happen if they don’t serve?” is, they go prison. when the imprisonment over, they are free, but also they will live as criminal so..

I only saw Korean people in comments. They are obsessed with Japan.
No, that's inaccurate. You'll have no difficulty stumbling upon many a Japanese troll here.
Furthermore, you are woefully misinformed, once again surprising given how long you have been in that part of the world, if you think the hatred is a one way street; It's not. The prevalence of right-wing nationalist groups in Japan is just one proof.

우리말로 수도를 의미하기도 합니다, 보통은 서울보다 수도라는 단어로 많이 사용하지만 서울이라는 단어도 수도의 뜻을 가지고 있습니다.
Great video! I really enjoyed it.
Thanks :D
